again: For the same reason I used to think it isn't but now I think it indeed is. BITCOIN is the Apocalypse!!!  But look up what Apocalypse actually means: "disclosure of knowledge, hidden from humanity in an era dominated by falsehood and misconception". Bitcoin will force all the hidden players to come out and show their true faces. Makes perfect sense to me.  and: "Anonymity" in Bitcoin is because it's just a software protocol; it's not a company that can verify identities.
Identity-verifying companies would have to live on top of Bitcoin.
That said, still, Bitcoin and crypto-currencies in general cannot and should not be overly regulated. There certainly is an ideology behind, and it is free speech.
Before, the dystopian scenario of a cashless society had always been that everything can be tracked, and that if you were an "unperson", the central computer would be able prevent you from buying and selling, thus locking you out of society.
However, now, as there exist crypto-currencies that function in a way that's abstracted from real-life identities and accounts, there are ways around this dystopic outlook.

...and that is a great achievement in its own right.
Even if Bitcoin does not make it, it altered the way to think about electronic cash. The proof that it is possible to have a decentralized genuineness control is of greatest benefit to the preservation of human rights and individual freedom in the future society.

tja, ein einer perfekten Welt wär's so, und davon war ich auch ausgegangen, drum war ich etwas unvorsichtig.
Ich hab ja auch erst mal die Rückbuchung freundlich verweigert, als die Bank angerufen hatte.
Aber was ich so mitgekriegt hab in letzter Zeit, ist es eben doch nicht (mehr?) so einfach. Für Verkäufer gibt es wie Regeln "Know Your Customer". Der Bankmensch am Telefon meinte, zivilrechtlich ist es so, dass ich das Geld zurückgeben muss, und dafür nun eine Forderung habe gegenüber dem Betrüger, so dass es also an mir hängen bleibt, und ich den Schwarzen Peter habe.
Ich werd aber schaun was so auf mich zukommt, ob es wirklich so ist und was ich tun kann.

it's like with all "privatization" nowadays, just lip-service, giving former state services into the hands of chosen monopolists, and not a free market. De-democratization is the better word.
The reason is, of course, because states are in debt. So they sell themselves out to their creditors.

Of what little comparisons I can draw between America and New Zealand (from a time I was researching what it's like to live in different places), they both have a high amount of citizens who despise foreigners and have a tendency to blame their problems on them.

Yeah, pointing fingers is easy. Imagine a highly advanced benevolent alien civilization made contact with us, we could tell them about our current issues and problems, and some people of ethnicity A would point their fingers at other people of ethnicity B and say "it's all their fault!". These aliens would just roll their eyes.  |

Das mit den Zigaretten kannst du so nicht Argumentieren, warum? Weil Zigaretten süchtig machen. Für den einen Teil der Leute waren Zigaretten absolut wertlos, während andere ihr letztes Hemd dafür gaben um es zu rauchen.
Diese Argumentation ist ein wenig über das Ziel hinausgeschossen. Zigaretten auf dem Gefängnishof werden nicht als Geldform benutzt, weil sie süchtig machen, sondern einzig und allein, weil sie den Eigenschaften eines tauglichen Geldes (begrenzte Menge, Nützlichkeit/Verwendbarkeit/Konsumnachfrage, Uniformität, Unfälschbarkeit, etc) aller Waren dort am nächsten kommen. David Graeber (der erwähnte links-anarchistische, anti-kapitalistische Anthropologe) argumentiert eher so, dass Warengelder dann entstehen, wenn die Leute es nicht anders kennen, entweder weil vorher ihr Gesellschaftssystem kollabiert ist (s. UdSSR kurz nach dem Fall des Ostblocks), oder weil sie eben wie im Gefängnis in diese Umgebung hineingezwungen werden. Historisch in Stammes- und Dörfergemeinschaften haben die Menschen in der Tat wohl eher ohne Tauschmittel/Geld gelebt; die Dinge wurden aufgeteilt, oder es herrschten Vertrauensbeziehungen. Du willst diese Kuh? Nimm sie dir; irgendwann wirst du dich schon revanchieren, oder du bist und bleibst halt der Dorftrottel. D.h. zuerst existierten Kreditformen, Metallgeld kam entgegen der Mär von Adam Smith und co in der Tat erst später, um Schuldverhältnisse (meist nach Eroberungen) zu quantifizieren und Unterdrückungsformen zu zementieren (s. Machtinstitution Priesterschaft und Religion, Doppeldeutigkeit von "Schuld" in vielen Sprachen). |

Land and property historically has always been the source of conflict, which is quite logical, due to the pressure of expansion.
If you see society as a (micro-) organism, like a (bacterial) culture, which is multiplying and expanding within limited space, you'll realize there is no fixed property that a cell can claim, or that it can expect to be protected in a free or even just cheap way.

Conceptually, sure.
It would have grown slower, in tune with the growth of the surrounding infrastructure (internet).
The blockchain would soon have been hosted on servers and archival nodes. Just like Satoshi himself describes will happen with our Bitcoin in the future too.
