2381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Maybe Jared Loughner had something right... on: February 19, 2012, 01:00:00 AM
In his "final thoughts" video, Jared Loughner (the Tuscon gunman) wrote, "Every human who is mentally capable is always able to be the treasurer of their new currency."

Just like that guy who created that program to allow you to generate a Bitcoon private key out of a simple sentence.  We all really do have the ability to be our own treasurer of their new currency!

I agree with the shooter... Time 1:20

I'm planning to buy a couple of silver bars, I found these on ebay but the price is way below APMEX or any other exchange, why..?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-OZ-100-MILLS-999-SILVER-CLAD-BULLION-BAR-SINKING-BISMARK-NEW-2012-/250987552064?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a70061d40

I really like the design of those, and if there's no con against, for example, an APMEX year of the dragon bar, I would like to start a collection with those..

Ebay is now filled with FAKE silver.  As the price of silver has risen there are more and more fakes and they are getting better.  Ebay is not a great place to buy it unless you are prepared to properly test for fakes.

2385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin big earners? on: February 17, 2012, 05:06:34 AM
I'll bet Casascius is doing alright for himself.  Maybe he's made 5-10k?

We can approximate the money that MTGOX makes and it is pretty big.  16 million dollars volume in the past 30 days.  So they made about $160,000 gross in that time period.

Tradehill did $600,000 so about $6000 gross.  Not shabby but with the costs of running a business and some big losses and you can see the outcome.

A big pool is doing about 600 BTC a month gross if it does 2% of 30000 BTC in blocks found, so at $6 a BTC that is a paltry $3600 a month compared to gox but still not bad.  You can tell in the past, at BTC peaks, a pool could have done pretty well.

you made great post and now you ruin it, bitcoinica operates with mtgox codes and their codes too without requiring any identification. I have access to it so the service can be used from Spain, thus under Spanish jurisdiction too. Dollars are used to make the deposits and pay interest.

So every internet web site can be accessed from every country in the world.  So every site on the internet is under every jurisdiction in the world?

2387  Other / Off-topic / Re: Another Islamic Off-Topic Quiz ! on: February 17, 2012, 04:25:12 AM
I still don't get it.  You asked for the name and location.  I provided both.  Patrick did not provide the title.  That is all.

Patrick did provide the title, the title is "Human Understanding", the title you gave is "Progress of Civilization". The answer I was looking for was "Blashfield collar painting and mural of Human Understanding" , I still accepted you answer as both of you provided links and the title of the mural can be given in several ways.

I am not going to continue anymore and accept your decision as to the winner but....

The title of the mural is not "human understanding" and it IS "Progress of civilization" .

Curious?  Did I get the title wrong?  Patrick did not have the title.

The title is  "Progress of Civilization"

Located in the dome of the main reading room, Jefferson building at the Library of Congress.

I don't think there is a conflict of interests at all, it's only a warning to the competent authorities of the potential unregulated or illegal activities until the opposite is proven

We have to prove we are innocent?

When asked about what laws you thought they broke you said you did not know.  So what are you accusing them LEGALLY with that complaint you put in writing?

again, i'm not accusing anyone with nothing only putting it into the authorities attention, i recommend you do the same and let them investigate

Third ask.  What are you accusing them of in that complaint?  The title of YOUR thread is "Legal complaint against bitcoinica.com"

of nothing, the exact translation of "denuncia" in Spanish language is "complaint" in English, you can understand it as the complainant gives a heads up of suspicious activity to authorities

You are accusing them of nothing?  Last time I did that... I didn't need to do anything.... at all.  (talk, visit the cops, post on a board about it etc)

What suspicious activity do you cite?

edit: i will retract my complaint if documentation is provided by bitcoinica

You are asking bitcoinica for AML documentation when they are not located in the USA or Spain?  Can you point out the law bitcoinica is violating in it's home country?

Don't get me wrong, I think bitcoinica is a rip off.  The huge spreads combined with the liquidation policy (not that they do it, but how easily they do it) make it a great way to loose BTC.  I also feel the interest component has the potential to allow (or encourage) the owner to allow the deposits to grow so big that they are incentive for going rouge with them.

i would point laws if i would know some, money laundering to start with and promise of returns for customer deposits

https://www.bitcoinica.com/pages/interest

So why are you putting forward a LEGAL complaint when you don't know of any laws broken?

2397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MTGOX new privacy policy??? on: February 16, 2012, 12:55:08 AM
You have to protect your identity, and YOU are liable for MtGox's losses:

Members are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their Account information, including their password, and for all activity including Transactions that occur under their Account. Members agree to notify Mt. Gox immediately of any unauthorized use of their Account or password, or any other breach of security by email addressed to security@mtgox.com. Members will be held liable for losses incurred by Mt. Gox or any other user of the Site due to someone else using their password or user account.

Mt Gox doesn't have to protect your identity, and they aren't liable when they don't:

Mt Gox will transfer Members' Personal Information to Mt. Gox K.K. as well as the third party service providers entrusted by Mt. Gox with the hosting of the Platform and other technical operations relating to the operation of the Platform. These parties may be located anywhere in the world. By accepting this Privacy Policy, you consent to such transfer of your Personal Information out of Japan. Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure and whilst we will do our best to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site when it is outside of our control.
...
To the extent permitted by law, Mt. Gox will not be held liable for any damages, loss of profit, loss of revenue, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss of data, indirect or consequential loss unless the loss suffered is caused by a breach of these Terms by Mt. Gox.

"You may request it, that doesn't mean we do anything about your request.":

You may also request the deletion or destruction of both the Account and Personal Information by sending an email to us at: support@mtgox.com. Mt. Gox will action your request only where this is not inconsistent with its legal and regulatory obligations.

...they are hoping you read that and not this?:

In accordance with our record keeping obligations we will retain Accounts and Personal Information for, at least a period of five years after they are closed by Members.

("...and the user can't specify or change any terms ever."):

Mt. Gox reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to change, add or remove portions of these Terms, at any time.

They just say this about when they will demand ID, which is just a continuation of the existing policy of holding funds ransom with no notice until they get what they want:

Transactions may be frozen until the identity check has been considered satisfactory by Mt. Gox as required by applicable money laundering laws. Mt. Gox may request additional identification information at any time at the request of any competent authority or by application of any applicable law or regulation.

These terms are insane. What the hell?!

Have you ever read the terms for anything online?  MOST of them are like this.  I am not saying it is good, but it certainly is not abnormal.  Due to gox being in Japan (unless you also are in Japan) you have very little recourse anyhow.  This does not change much!

Then turning off script protection allowed to it work.  Thanks!
2400  Economy / Trading Discussion / Withdraw on CryptoXchange invalid address [solved quickly!] on: February 14, 2012, 04:33:01 PM
Each time I try to add a new address to withdraw to, I get invalid address.  I have both done a cut and paste from a webpage, and from my bitcoin client.  I have made sure there are no extraneous trailing characters and still get this error.

I am asking here in case anyone can help me fast.  I have asked support for the exchange as well.
