2381  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets Lifespan on: April 03, 2023, 10:02:39 AM
I was also aware of the Corazon products and spite of the apparent high quality, I think the usage of titanium and fancy colors for a HW casing is a little bit too exotic, it is rather a luxurious product rather than one aiming to protect the electronic part of the wallet.

Of course it's luxury, but still, the titanium case will protect the electronics much better than ordinary plastic, although I can't say if it justifies such a high price. For someone who has a lot of money and may be a public figure who deals with cryptocurrencies, a device like this is certainly something that can set him apart from the rest.

Also, I think even though Trezor is not water-proof, they seem to have some inherent resistance towards moisture.

A few years ago, there was a case where the T model survived a fire and the extinguishing of that same fire, i.e. it was still working after that. I know of one case when one of these was used as a toy for a dog, and in such a case the metal housing would definitely come into its own.
2382  Economy / Speculation / Re: US Government DUMPING Bitcoin on: April 03, 2023, 09:44:48 AM
Probably 99% of the hodlers would have loved to see them destroyed rather than auctioned, recognition and laws and regulations are only appreciated when they cause a pump, not when it might have an adversary effect.

Those who are only there for profit would not mind if as much BTC was "destroyed" as possible so that their coins would be worth more, but that is the reality we live in. However, I do not see why such sales would have any effect on the price considering that we are in the recovery phase and that the market will absorb these coins very easily.

The world is full of confused people, OP is just one of them who thinks that a few thousand BTC can change something important in a market where hundreds of thousands of BTC are traded every day.
2383  Economy / Speculation / Re: US Government DUMPING Bitcoin on: April 02, 2023, 03:15:42 PM
I want to talk about the US government selling 51,000 Bitcoins, why are they doing this. Is Bitcoin going to be trashed let's talk about all this stuff and more this came out yesterday and a lot of people were talking about it what happened to these 51,000 Bitcoins.
~snip~

When you read articles from a shitty source, then your conclusions are just as shitty (excuse the expression). As @stompix already wrote, it is not about selling 50K BTC, but only a part of what has seized two years ago. And the fact that they (the US government) sell BTC means that they informally recognize it as something that has value, and you could only worry if they destroyed all the seized BTC and thus showed the middle finger to everyone else.

What you see as a problem is actually a good thing, because the US government promotes Bitcoin by doing so and also puts it back into circulation - and in return it gets what it loves most, its dollars.
2384  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: @Active Members of Bitcointalk: Why have you created an Account here? on: April 02, 2023, 02:59:25 PM
I'm very curious for your reasons, why you've signed up at Bitcointalk, created an Account here and are an active member of Bitcointalk by writing content regularly.
~snip~

I heard that there is a guy who invented Bitcoin and that he has his own forum that you can join and that one day he will appear on that forum and distribute even 1 million BTC to everyone who is not a spammer or shitposter Cheesy
2385  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitget exchange SMS code receive issue on: April 02, 2023, 02:43:46 PM
Just wanted to share a story with the SMS verification problem I had a few months ago (not exchange) that even support couldn't help because the problem was actually on my side. Make sure that you're not blacklisting sms from bitget, maybe you forget you did it.

I had similar problems with SMS verifications, and the problem was on my end. It turned out that I had blocked the prefix of a foreign country because of SMS spam coming from that country, but a legitimate service for SMS messages is also located in that country, so I blocked both good and bad messages. It sounds strange, but such things happen.

Personally, I do not prefer this method of verification, but in some cases it is the only choice and cannot be avoided.
2386  Economy / Reputation / Re: How wide reaching can the consequences of Chipmixer money laundering be? on: April 02, 2023, 02:06:52 PM
I am confused, you stated the was up to that point very little risk for regular users at the same time as you said there were protective measures for theymos and staff (and the forum by default). Can you elaborate on the differentiation you stated between them?

I already wrote to you that you should be able to read between the lines so that some things would be clearer to you. The fact is that the administration decided to take that step for two reasons - the first is to protect themselves as individuals, and the second is to protect the forum from possible closure.

Each individual has always been responsible for his actions on the forum, and it will be so in the future, with the difference that now the forum administration completely separates itself from anyone who promotes mixers. In the event that someone decides to deal uncompromisingly with the mixers and those who advertise them, each individual will pay an individual price, and the forum will not be held responsible.

That's just my thinking though, I don't have any confidential information nor do I know what will happen in the future.
2387  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can we start with $10 in CRYPTO MARKET? on: April 02, 2023, 01:49:47 PM
~snip~
• Trade there and secure your sats in your wallet,
• Repeat the process when you get another $10.

Such a mission with only $10 is not only difficult to do, but in most cases it will be completely unprofitable due to the service/withdrawal fee that most CEX charge. If the OP decides to buy Bitcoin or some alternative, then it would be better for him not to make a separate withdrawal, but to do so after accumulating a slightly larger amount of coins.

Of course, there is always a risk of keeping cryptocurrencies in a custodial wallet, but on the other hand, it is simply completely unprofitable to withdraw such small amounts.
2388  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets Lifespan on: April 02, 2023, 11:17:50 AM
I have seen reports of people who have keep their Trezors Ones up to 5 years without problems, while also others who claim some problems with the screen started to appear around the 2-3 years period.
~snip~

I have had a Nano S for about 5 years and it still works like the first day it was bought, but I can say for myself that I am a person who takes care of my things much more than the average person. Technical problems are always possible, but many malfunctions of electronic devices are the result of incorrect handling, inadequate storage, and sometimes a bad power network that can damage such devices due to sudden and frequent voltage changes and power outages.

Still I would like more high quality hardware wallets, as many are made of cheap plastics. I think even high quality plastics could already make a huge difference.

You forget that the use of higher quality materials means a higher price, and that many still complain that hardware wallets are too expensive, even though you can buy them for less than $50. Manufacturers have to adapt to what the market is looking for, which is cheaper devices that are therefore made of lower quality materials.

Unfortunately, this quality decreased even more after the material prices skyrocketed, but I think that everything has its price, as well as that every product has its buyer. There is HW that costs as much as $2000, and it seems to be sold out.
2389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin usage in crime activity. on: April 02, 2023, 10:56:21 AM
Hello crypto bros.

We already told you not to call us "crypto bros.", but you are obviously illiterate to the extent that you cannot read several comments in the thread you open.

Firstly, -1 for calling us crypto bros. We aren't twats who shill altcoins to every soul we come across. Don't feed this terrible meme or expand its reach to people who advocate Bitcoin.
~snip~

Bitcoin is great in means of anonymous transactions and getting away from the banks and government control, but the problem is, it's the exact problem why criminals are using it. And it's a pretty big one. I'm not saying that criminals use bitcoin more than fiat, but we all can see that illegal services are widely accepting bitcoin.

The problem here is that the system should have some way to fight these criminals because we don't want bitcoin to be associated with drugs and sex trafficking,  but the problem is, by solving these problems we should get rid of anonymity which is a pillar for the bitcoin technology, so it can't be done. And this problem might be a big obstacle in mass bitcoin adoption and regulations that are coming.

Criminals still prefer fiat, because not only is it safer for them, but because Bitcoin is not as anonymous as you think. If all relevant research shows that Bitcoin is used by 1-2% of people in the world, where do you see a problem in that? In addition, every bill you have in your wallet may have been in the hands of a drug smuggler, a weapon smuggler, or maybe it was used to pay for a murder - so if you want to solve the world's problems, you should start from the top, not the bottom.
2390  Economy / Economics / Re: Elon Musk and others urge AI pause, citing 'risks to society' on: April 01, 2023, 04:07:45 PM
Italy has joined some not so popular countries that have already banned ChatGPT ->

Quote
ChatGPT is already blocked in a number of countries, including China, Iran, North Korea and Russia.

But at the same time, the Google version of the chat bot is still available, because it seems that the only problem is that GPT is available to everyone regardless of age.

Quote
Bard, Google's rival artificial-intelligence chatbot, is now available, but only to specific users over the age of 18 - because of those same concerns.

However, somehow it seems to me that the ban is only temporary, because the Italian data protection agency has given ChatGPT 20 days to try to solve it, otherwise a fine will follow.

Quote
The Italian data-protection authority said OpenAI had 20 days to say how it would address the watchdog's concerns, under penalty of a fine of €20 million ($21.7m) or up to 4% of annual revenues.
2391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Can Bitcoin wallet be traced by IP address? on: April 01, 2023, 03:27:51 PM
No, the mobile version doesn't have TOR if you are looking for a bitcoin wallet with the TOR feature then the only Android wallet that I know is the Schildbach Bitcoin wallet that you can download on Play Store.

In addition to the already mentioned wallets, another mobile wallet that has TOR is Samourai. That wallet has some other features that can further contribute to privacy. However, it should be emphasized that TOR is not something that provides absolute privacy, because if a real player (three letters agency) targets you, it will not help you remain anonymous either.
2392  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: You should write two copies of your seed phrase. on: April 01, 2023, 10:40:57 AM
But what if, you have 1,000 Bitcoins in your wallet, and you forget one word, JUST ONE WORD, and you have no copies of your seed phrase anywhere because "remembering 12 word is not that hard". You'll definitely know the true meaning of manual brute-forcing. Hahaha.

One missing word from the seed is not too much of a problem, I think that finding even three words is feasible with today's technology in some reasonable time. As time goes on computers will become more and more powerful and some who have really messed up with their backup hope to be able to discover their treasure chest.

Of course, a lot of bad things can be avoided if we take some basic precautions, and one of the basic ones is to understand that only one backup represents a big risk, but even 2 or 3 in the same location in some cases will not help if it is about ordinary paper.
2393  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets Lifespan on: April 01, 2023, 10:26:03 AM
Yeah and imagine you need a little from that treasure and once you plug it in yoz see nil which willmake for a happy cold feeling.

This is why you have a backup that consists of 12 or 24 words, which, if stored correctly, ensures that you can perform a wallet recovery at any time in the future. Of course, everyone would like HW to last as long as possible, but buy any electronic device and there is a high probability that it will break within 5 years or even earlier. In the past, such devices were made to last, today they are made so that their duration is limited, and all in order to buy a new device as soon as possible.

* I am sorry, I do not how to put a reference to ChatGPT response. If you know how to, please tell me. Thanks.

Maybe you should have asked the AI what is the appropriate way to do it?

Maybe now I should ask the AI what it thinks about people asking it such questions - but I prefer to communicate with people, and I'm not at all interested in AI-generated messages...
2395  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pitching Bitcoin to a Whale Tank on: April 01, 2023, 10:05:54 AM
~snip~
Sir Lucius stated that having 100,000 people with 1 bitcoins among themselves is preferable than whales of whatever have all the Bitcoin to them selfs. Perhaps Satoshi did not design the technology for everyone or for only one person, but for people who find it good to use.

Of course, this is always an option that Satoshi was probably counting on, otherwise the whole project would have failed long before it started. The whole thing should have passed under the radar of the big players, all with the aim of getting as many ordinary people as possible to get involved and support Bitcoin on a personal level. I would say that the mission was successful, because until the big bull run of 2017 there was no interest of big players and companies in Bitcoin, of course with some exceptions such as Tim Draper or the Winklevoss twins.

~snip~
I really think that they also would not find bitcoin interesting because of the risk involved in it back in 2010.

What kind of risk are you talking about? In 2010, you could mine Bitcoin with a personal computer and the reward per block was 50 BTC. There wasn't any risk, it's just that most people didn't know about Bitcoin, or thought it was just one of a series of internet scams.
2396  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about this bitcoin awareness in Frankfurt? on: March 31, 2023, 02:25:45 PM
I already wrote my message in WO -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg62008873#msg62008873

I'm just interested in whether it's legal to make such projections on private or state buildings and whether those who do it can have problems because of it?
2397  Other / Off-topic / Re: Github employs AI over techies; lays off 142 engineers on: March 31, 2023, 02:08:34 PM
They want to cut cost and save up more money for other projects their pockets.

Don't be surprised that AI replaces people, because for most employers, people are just numbers, and besides, they go on annual vacations, sick leave, maternity leave, and constantly complain about their low wages. AI solves all these "problems" and, as they say, increases efficiency, and those at the top will profit more than before - for them, in any case, it's a win-win situation.

After all, how can you compete with something that can do your whole day's work in just a few minutes?

Anyone have the fully video he playing ?

I search on youtube and twitter, only he crying losing his money cannot find any clip video while he doing the gambling ~LOL I was interested to see, how his style gambling on "Poker" what game he playing and other.

Would be nice, If can find that.

Maybe it's all just made up, or he even lost all that money, but someone paid him to make a good advertisement for a certain casino. Be that as it may, nobody should be surprised that the rich squander their money like that, because they have enough of it to make a fire with it and keep warm that way every day of the year. It seems that the only things that make such rich people happy are that they show off their wealth in various ways, even if it means filming themselves losing money that some don't earn in their entire lives.
2399  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everything is cyclical and repetitive. Bitcoin is no exception on: March 31, 2023, 01:16:43 PM
Satoshi never expected Bitcoin to be adopted by governments, but the citizens who would use it to escape the fiat financial trap the government put them into.

Yes, it seems that was his idea, but we still have the problem that most people have a negative attitude towards Bitcoin because it is the attitude of their government. With some exceptions like El Salvador, it is not realistic to expect the government of some economically stable and rich country to suggest its residents to start using Bitcoin. It is enough to read what the SEC, the Bank of England or the European Central Bank think about Bitcoin to understand that such a concept is simply unacceptable to them.

If you are living under the jurisdiction of the United States of America and a registered voter under the the state of Massachusetts, do not vote for this grandma!
~snip~

Honestly, I really don't care who will and who won't vote for her, because she is totally irrelevant and it's a real shame that we give such people any exposure on this forum. If Bitcoin could survive without China, I'm sure it can survive without Massachusetts and a few other federal states.

They are doing something similar to the cryptospace as they did to controlling guns. They are taking them away from the hands of the people and what might occur is it will be the criminals who will predominantly have access to them.

Is the possession or purchase of firearms prohibited in the Massachusetts? As far as I managed to find online, it is allowed for everyone over the age of 15 who has a license -> https://www.mass.gov/info-details/gun-ownership-in-massachusetts

Furthermore, do you think it's normal that kids can own firearms without any problems and then go around killing people? I think that something is very, very poorly regulated in a country that has at least one mass murder every day...
