Many reasons why one might sell. Mostly weak hands probably as you said but some will have to or want to sell for other reasons.
~snip~

I think those who invest in BTC can be easily divided into two basic groups. The first are those who have certain cash reserves and have invested in BTC for the long term (4+ years). They literally don't care when this kind of market shock happens because they know that the loss will turn into a gain in the future. What's more, they will take advantage of these opportunities and buy more coins.

The second group are those who invest in BTC money that they may actually need at any moment, and react to any negative price change in fear that their say $1000 will turn into $950 or less. The philosophy of these people is to sell as quickly as possible when things go down, usually for some stable coin, and then wait for a new opportunity to enter.

When you wake up in the morning and you don't care if Mr. Mars dawned with a red or green dildo, and whether some big Chinese company failed, that's probably priceless Cool
1382  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Thousands of XRP transferred from a Ledger wallet purchased from a reseller!! on: August 18, 2023, 11:07:30 AM
I find a lot of mystery in her story.
~snip~

I also find something suspicious here, because the person says that she asked for a new device from Ledger because her HW asked her for a PIN, and I don't see why Ledger would agree to send a new device in exchange for a device that asks for a PIN? In fact, she claims that the difference between the old Nano S+ and the new one was only that on the new device she could see a transaction that she claims was the work of a hacker - who left 10 coins by the way, after stealing several thousand.

This reminds me a little of that woman who recently caused a scandal on the plane and became viral, and nothing surprises me when it comes to 5 minutes of fame, people are ready for anything.
1383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SpaceX sold $373M worth Bitcoin, reason of current dump on: August 18, 2023, 10:31:50 AM
Have you see how dumping Bitcoin? If not you are missing red chart. Here is the reason why current dump happened.
~snip~

You are not a beginner, so it would be good not to add more fuel to the fire, especially with information that definitely has no impact on the price of BTC. If you read the post from @stompix, it is clear what caused the drop in the price of BTC, but also almost everything else.

Mr. Mars has long since become completely irrelevant to anyone who understands how much damage he has done to Bitcoin with his statements about Bitcoin having a bad impact on the environment. For someone who is supposed to be an intelligent man, such a statement placed him among the stupidest people in the world who are not able to do even the simplest research.
1384  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 18, 2023, 10:16:28 AM
I never thought we might have another chance to buy the dip before the halving event.
I had a couple hundred dollars, and it's set on 26K again!
Thanks to dumb people for giving us an opportunity to accumulate a little more.

You obviously thought wrong, and if you think this is the last chance to buy cheap coins before the halving, then let's say you think wrong again. There are still at least 8+ months until the halving and in that period anything can happen, but also halving does not automatically mean a bull run.

As for those you call "stupid people", I prefer to call them weak hands, but they are an integral part of every market - their loss is always someone's gain.
1385  Other / Meta / Re: Privacy Concerns, Can Administrators and Mods Access Personal Messages? on: August 18, 2023, 10:07:18 AM
~snip~
A limited number of people can read the personal messages. Personal messages are stored in the database in encrypted form and only those who have the decryption key can read them.

Given that my post, in which I stated, is another example of who can technically read PM, for those who do not read what others write and respond only to certain posts I will quote again. The post from 2012 is out of date anyway, unless Gavin still has the privilege of reading PMs, which would not only be illogical, but also dangerous since he's long gone to the dark side.

We don't log your IP address when the extension contacts our server but if you don't trust us you should use Tor or VPN. The extension can technically read any data from your BitcoinTalk session, including your PMs, but it doesn't do so. It collects user IDs from the page you're looking at - e.g. a list of posts in a thread - and sends that list of IDs to bpip.org to get info about those users, and only does so if you turn the optional features on (these features are off by default).

The extension works even if you browse BitcoinTalk.org without being logged in. The source code is not obfuscated and can be examined by anyone with sufficient JavaScript knowledge using developer tools built into most browsers. Same tools can also be used to check network traffic to/from the extension.

1386  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your selling plan in the bull run? on: August 17, 2023, 02:43:14 PM
I know it is not definite but highly likely the bull run will be 2024/25 and it will be my first bull run.

I am wondering when is best to sell and want to make sure I don't sell too early.

I have been in crypto just under 18 months now so all I am used to is bear market and being at a loss so feel as soon as the markets reverse and bull run comes it will all be new to me and I don't want to get too carried away and sell to early.

Does anyone have specific selling strategy during the bull run or do you just do what feels right at the time?

Are you still asking questions that you have already answered more than once? I don't know if it's confusion or something else, but even after 18 months in how you say "crypto", you don't seem like you've learned anything, or that you even have a serious intention to learn something.

Instead of looking for some new answers again, I suggest you re-read some of your topics.

Is there a best way of withdrawing profits from exchanges?
Bitcoin - what are we expecting for the rest of 2023?
Cashing out fiat in UK?
What are we expecting from now until Bitcoin halving?
Bitcoin - what is your plan when we reach $100k?

These are just some of the topics you have made since May of this year, there is simply no point in going beyond that...

That aside, 30 days an old website, supposedly owned by a company registered 3 months ago in Delaware, with no contact, no office, and no information whatsoever, so should I pay 10$ a month a month to give them access to all my funds and trade?

You see, this service could very easily become part of a package offered by a well-known company that sells hardware wallets - first you pay them $10 a month so that your seed is divided into three parts between three companies, and then another $10 to increase the possibility that someone will hack you while trading on CEX Roll Eyes

Does anyone know the amount of data that was requested regarding CM. Bitcointalk was mentioned several times in that report, but I don't know whether they relied on the data available to everyone, or asked for IP addresses and private messages.

This information can only be known by the admin, and I am not aware that he has commented on anything related to CM. In the event that someone's personal messages or other private data are given to third parties at their request, those forum members should be notified. Of course, if something has not changed in this regard compared to 2015 (I am referring to the link posted by @TryNinja).
1389  Economy / Speculation / Re: Could Bitcoin potentially serve as a safe haven in the upcoming economic crisis on: August 17, 2023, 10:25:49 AM
This means that we are going to end up with a return that would be basically keeping its value and that's about it. This isn't really something we should be aiming at because it would be better if we could end up with a return that would be bigger.
~snip~

You and I and the majority have no influence on the price of BTC and that game is far beyond our capabilities if we take into account all possible manipulations or black swan events. In such an equation, there will always be more than one X factor that you cannot predict, and that is why I say that it is not wise to throw all your cards into Bitcoin, regardless of what you think about it. It's definitely easier to be in all of this if you don't look at Bitcoin exclusively from the angle of profit, but that's obviously something that few can afford.

But , but...all you need is buy Bitcoin!
It's proven that no matter what happens, even if an asteroid wipes all life from the Earth when the halving happens we're going to be rich!

I really don't understand why some think that crumbling economies, people out of jobs, bankruptcies, and suicides left and right would magically make all unemployed and bankrupt people pour their debts into bitcoin, and although I try every single f* time to ask these guys why do they think this will be the way things will unfold I still haven't got a single answer that is not signature quota material.

You cannot expect people to behave differently from the environment that shapes them, whether it is the media, politics or social networks, everything is in the service of almighty capital that can convince billions that a virus with a mortality rate of less than 1% will decimate humanity or that it is actually a good thing that the authorities are printing money and dropping it from helicopters.

For some, Bitcoin is a solution for everything, but at the same time, the majority have never used it to pay for any goods or services, but are waiting for halving to do its magic or for someone to invest trillions in BTC and make them rich.
1390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal UK To (Temporally) Halt Bitcoin and Crypto Purchases on: August 17, 2023, 09:55:35 AM
Jokes aside PayPal does own a considerable percentage of the global online payment options and if some day it ceased to exist the shops and businesses using their service have to find an alternative which is where Bitcoin comes in and can take it all. That means PP's demise is a good news for bitcoin Tongue

This may seem simple at first, but if it ever comes true, it will be in the somewhat distant future, considering where PP is currently and where Bitcoin is. It is still much easier for the average user to pay with PP, and in addition, he has guaranteed protection that he will get what he paid for, or he will get his money back.

The protection of the buyer who would pay directly with BTC does not actually exist, and here again we have to rely on payment processors who again in some way actually play the role of an intermediary and can be a problem if they require KYC or refuse the transaction for the reason that the coins are not clean.

If PP and similar companies were to cease to exist for some reason, the market would certainly look for an alternative, but with all these so-called stablecoins and CBDC, it somehow does not seem to me that Bitcoin will be the first choice.
1391  Other / Meta / Re: Privacy Concerns, Can Administrators and Mods Access Personal Messages? on: August 17, 2023, 09:34:33 AM
Everything is more or less well explained in previous posts, and those who didn't know it by now may have learned the difference between personal and private.

However, it should be noted that there is someone else who can technically read your personal messages, and this is the BPIP extension. If you use it, pay attention to the following :

We don't log your IP address when the extension contacts our server but if you don't trust us you should use Tor or VPN. The extension can technically read any data from your BitcoinTalk session, including your PMs, but it doesn't do so. 1392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal UK To (Temporally) Halt Bitcoin and Crypto Purchases on: August 16, 2023, 03:21:03 PM
This news may have some effect only on people from the UK (apparently only temporarily), but some geniuses like those we see on social networks draw completely meaningless conclusions from everything. Whether it's trolls or those who can't regret not knowing about Bitcoin before, it's completely pointless to waste time with them - history has proven that they've always been wrong, I have no doubt that it will be the same this time.

I will not say what I think about those who think that PP or someone else can influence Bitcoin, but I will just say that many live in various delusions - what would happen if PP ceased to exist - maybe the world would sink into chaos and hopelessness Roll Eyes

1394  Economy / Speculation / Re: Could Bitcoin potentially serve as a safe haven in the upcoming economic crisis on: August 16, 2023, 02:30:43 PM
First of all, everyone should wake up from some enchanted dream where milk and honey flow in streams, interest rates don't exist and everyone earns exactly what they need. Since the pandemic was declared, we have actually been living in an economic crisis that has been further aggravated by the war in Ukraine and all those crazy measures implemented by various countries to prevent us from experiencing a complete collapse, are slowly but surely began to return to us like a boomerang.

Bitcoin managed all this well, although we should not forget that on the day the pandemic was declared, it lost about 50% of its value, and if I'm not mistaken, gold lost about 6% - which partially answers the question posed by the OP. Accordingly, I can agree with some other members that it can be somewhat misleading to say that BTC is a "safe haven" considering the volatility, which does not necessarily have to be the result of supply and demand, but also of political decisions that go in the direction of regulations or bans on possession or trading in the same in some countries.

It would be logical to always adhere to the rule of not keeping all eggs in the same basket, which means diversifying our investments in order to reduce risk.
1395  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [WARNING] Whirlwind.money - withdrawals are not being processed ⚠️ on: August 16, 2023, 01:39:54 PM
Yes
It really looks like exit scam.
Site is not accessible anymore: http://whirlwind.money/
Really sad news but I've called it earlier when I've sait it's just a matter of time:

Quote
Issue is many services are shady. It's only a question of time until we see an exit scam again or fraud operator like ChipMixer.

It would be better if you don't write anything, than you appear completely ignorant about what happened with CM and what is happening specifically in this case. It is hard to even imagine that you think that CM carried out an exit scam, unless you think that some three letter agencies helped them in this by seizing their domains and servers Shocked

Confidentiality: Only the buyer and me knows the buying of accounts takes place.

The reason I got redtrust is for only selling accounts not from scamming.

The fact that you don't use escrow suggests that you may not actually be selling anything and the way you operate is ideal for a scam. Individuals who decide to do business with you are anyway cheated in one way or another, because either they will get nothing when they pay, or they will get a BTT account whose history they will not be able to adjust to.

In other words, the new owners will be identified and tagged very easily and quickly.

You're right, I didn't pay attention to the fact that the notification window can be expanded, so I only saw data related to sent/received data. Honestly, it would be strange if this option didn't exist in the mobile version, but on the other hand, desktop and mobile versions often don't have the same features.
1398  Other / Meta / Re: Whats your take on adding 2FA key as a Bitcointalk account security features. on: August 16, 2023, 10:18:18 AM

Secondly I never knew an active account could get hacked since they are active was thinking they won't mind badging into the account to break through since the owner could quickly raised an alarm.

The activity of a BTT account does not mean that the person who hacks such an account cannot do damage using that account, because most people also have their private lives, which probably includes sleeping. If someone hacks you and you are not aware of it for 8+ hours, the hacker can use that time to request a loan or post malicious links or send threats to other members, all of which can result in you receiving a message that your account has been permanently banned. Of course, such a user will have the opportunity to prove that he was not behind all these actions, but sometimes that takes time.

For example, I remember that @LTU_btc was hacked, and also @BitcoinGirl.Club.

We're all the same!

It's a wrong conclusion in every sense, whether it's about investing, trading, everyday things in life or just promises we made to others. For example, you stand out from others because you don't keep your word and your reputation is obviously worth $50 or maybe not even that much.

On the other hand, most members of this forum do not allow themselves such things, so we are not all the same, fortunately.
1400  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is your anticipation on bitcoin market capitalization as for 2030 on: August 15, 2023, 02:12:33 PM
It was 3Trillions back in 2021.

No, it wasn't! It peaked at 1.2 trillion, for 19 million coins to be worth 3 trillion it would have needed a price of of more than $150k per coin, and that never happened.
~snip~

It's funny how some people pull numbers out of their hats as if there is no difference between $1 trillion or $3 trillion, and if you ask them how much $1 trillion (billions or maybe millions) is, I wonder how many of them would know the answer to that question...

No one can give a precise answer to such questions, so perhaps it is best to say that in 2030 all mined BTC will certainly be worth much more than today, even if the price remains the same as today.

If we take into account the scenario that, for example, the price of 1 BTC around 2030 will be $200 000 and that at the beginning of the same year 20 425 781.25 will be mined, then the total value would be around $4 trillion. I think that is a realistic number, although some will think that by then the price of BTC should be much higher than I assumed, but that is not an obstacle to play with the numbers a little and make your own speculation Wink
