241  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I seriously wanna get rid of my damn GoxUSD NOW on: January 09, 2014, 10:46:29 PM
Did they give you an actual reason?  If not I would ask them what specifically you need to send in order to be verified.

Yes, they did. They do not accept my proof of residence which is a monthly bank account statement. By now, I obviously know that Mt.Gox does not accept that for whatever reason. I had no problem at all verifying several other accounts like bitstamp and many more. The problem is that I simply do not have any of those documents they accept. I have no mobile phone contract (I use prepaid), I have no health insurance (I prefer paying in cash) and I do not have a utility bill in my name (I am living in a shared flat). So now, they want me to show some paper issued by the local Citizens Registration Office, but I am NOT registered and I simply do not want to be for legal and political reasons.

Well, I admit that all of this sounds kinda weird, but before you tell me now that this is my own bad then, I want you to understand that I obviously could get a mobile phone contract any time. But I simply do not want, nor need one. And by now, it is about the principle. I mean it's just fucking ridiculous to not accept a bank statement as proof while accepting a fucking mobile phone bill. Is there any goddamn reason why they wouldn't do that? By the way, I could fake any of those documents EASILY, since I am a professional web designer and know how to work Photoshop. But as I said. It's about the principle.

Moreover, does any of this justify to trap someone into depositing BTC, although they clearly state that this wouldn't be possible without verification? I don't think so. And why do they all of the sudden need 20 days to check 2 documents? I mean NOBODY is registering at Gox these days, because their reputation is already soooo fucking bad. So, to me that looks more like they don't give a shit about verifying customers anymore, since they are about to close down and run.
I don't think they are about to close down and run, it's more that you're a bit of a special case.  99% of people have a mobile phone contract or health insurance or a utility bill.

And while I agree with you that it is silly they won't take a bank statement, there's probably good reason for that (maybe some banks would let you put whatever address you want on your account without having to verify it).

All of that said, I do NOT think it is appropriate for them to hold your funds that you deposited instead of return them to you.  It is certainly one of the reasons I have avoided using MtGox for a long time.

I wondered where you went SgtSpike. Hangin out in the newbie jail I see.

On topic: I really never understood why everyone has such bad luck with Gox. I got verified back when Gox first started the process back in 2011 and have never had a problem since. Oh sure, they sometimes take a while sending funds or handling an error but have always worked it out eventually. The longest wait time for a support ticket I ever had was 30 days and that was right after their move from France to Japan.
Lol, yep, you got me.  I just like to browse "unread posts" every once in a while and see what interesting threads come up.

I thought they were 419 scams?

Where do these numbers come from? 419, 519. What the ****Huh Smiley
"The number "419" refers to the article of the Nigerian Criminal Code dealing with fraud."

You obviously can. I mean in case I didn't get something wrong here >>>

I didn't know that either until today.

Cheers
Tell you what.  I'll take your $8700 USD, and give you 9 BTC for it, but only if I can successfully add it to my own MtGox account, sell it, and withdraw it as BTC.  If all of that goes without a hitch, I'll give you your 9 BTC.  If I run into trouble, I'll give you the MtGox USD back.
245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's add up the KNOWN lost bitcoins on: January 08, 2014, 07:34:59 PM
I enjoyed reading this thread. It's interesting and a bit scary how not only computer noobs loose substantial amounts of Bitcoins. But it's only really scary because of current value of Bitcoins...

Nevertheless: theft, loss or corruption of the wallet is an apparent problem which Bitcoin has to deal with in a better way. Especially when Bitcoin is growing and is becoming more and more common, which I expect everyone who likes it is looking for.

An immediate idea I had is some kind of possibility to save a distributed encrypted version of your wallet in some kind of Bitcoin network cloud. Extend the Bitcoin protocol in a suitable way so that nodes can provide some amount of cloud storage. A wallet that goes into this distributed cloud storage is spread to a certain number of nodes and the Bitcoin network protocol has to take care that there are always enough "copies" available, so that restauration of a particular wallet is always possible. Only securely encrypted wallets are distributed to this Bitcoin wallet cloud storage. The wallet's owner only has to take care that he or she doesn't forget the encryption key/passphrase/whatever. The Bitcoin client should provide necessary assistance for this, like printout of keys or QR codes.

I have not elaborated this idea any more, but I'm confident it could make wallet.dat wipes, harddisk failures/sudden deaths much less of a threat to your beloved Bitcoins. It's a pity and shame to permanently make them unspendable...
I think a torrent project along these lines could work well.  Have a website where a user can upload an ENCRYPTED wallet file in any format (i.e., a user could encrypt it multiple times with multiple methods if they wanted), and the website would publish monthly torrents with a collection of all wallets uploaded to date.  As long as at least a handful of people download and seed the collection, people would have a permanent distributed backup of their Bitcoin wallet.

Of course, the downside is, once the encryption method that is used is broken or bruteforceable, people would have to abandon use of those particular Bitcoin addresses.

250  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BitBet Stole ~$7,000 from me (10 BTC) on: January 07, 2014, 09:41:53 PM
Is this still dragging on ? I cannot see how this benefits BitBet in anyway, even if for some reason Bitbet thinks the guy does not deserve to be refunded, surely you must have some business sense, reach a compromise with the guy and move on.
I'm fairly certain that is exactly what they are lacking, and thus why they must resort to scamming to make any profits.

252  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Sgtspike SCAM ALERT www.minecraftcc.com on: December 27, 2013, 04:09:35 PM
Just saw this thread now.  It cracks me up.

Anyway, i545318 claims verbal abuse (huh??), but he has been the one threatening me via PM on multiple occasions.  The bottom line is, he didn't follow server rules, and was banned, and I don't pay out BTC to banned people.  He takes issue with not being paid despite being banned, and thus attempts to badmouth me and the MinecraftCC community wherever possible.

There's more than a thousand people who have received BTC from playing on our server, and this is one of two unresolved complaints I've ever had.  I always receive compliments on the community and the server as a whole.  It's a great place to be, and it's hardly due to my efforts - the volunteers who help me are incredible people who sacrifice their time and efforts to help ensure everyone who plays there enjoys themselves.

I am sorry that your time on our server didn't work out, i545318.

Thanks for the support bmlzootown!  Wink
I can also vouch for you, Spike - I used to play on your server, and it always paid out. Wink
Cheers!  Wink

Webster's definition of trust.  -belief that someone or something is reliable, good, honest, effective, etc.
We can leave the good vs evil debate in Gods hands but the rest fits - bitbet is reliable, effective, and honest.  Every time I see this thread it makes want to go bet there.  Thanks for bumping it.
You are one of a few who feels this way.  I guarantee that this thread is preventing more people from visiting BitBet than it is bringing in.  Please, continue to gamble away your BTC.  Wink

The above two posters are right, of course. It's about whether you can trust a particular vendor or service.

And this is exactly what this thread is about: Establishing (again, I suppose) that there is a noticeable lack of trust in BitBet and MP.

Also: Merry Christmas to you all Cheesy
And honestly, we should keep bumping this thread until BitBet is gone.  Make sure as many people hear about these scammers as possible.
256  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BitBet Stole ~$7,000 from me (10 BTC) on: December 20, 2013, 08:54:43 PM
He deposited after the fact (actually after the bet closed due to his own stupidity), trying to scam bettors with an easy win. But hey, let's have opinions on things we didn't research, we're all entitled to one right?
FYI I was on the losing side of the bet.
So then the proper thing to do, since he obviously missed the bet deadline, is to refund the bet, NOT steal his money.

A FAQ maybe?
No contract = no obligations.  Be in this new world or the old one.  What's the point of irreversible transactions if you want to reverse them later?
You don't need a contract to have obligations.

Example:  You hit a kid on a bike with your car while driving.  You are now obligated to pay for his medical bills.  No contract, but you have an obligation.

Example 2:  Someone leaves their purse under a park bench, which you find.  You are obligated to turn it in to the police or find the rightful owner.

Example 3:  Someone deposits $10,000 into your bank account instead of their own by mistake.  You are obligated to report the discrepancy to ensure the money gets back to the right person.

Everyone who supports this site is a scumbag in my book.
