New: NewYorkCoin p2pool (this coin is going to relaunch soon!):
https://github.com/NewYorkCoin/p2pool-nyc

NewYorkCoin? Does it have any value? Is it a scrypt or asic based currency?

242  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [185 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: April 30, 2014, 11:04:49 AM
Lovin days where we have 3 blocks in the last 24 hour window like today Smiley

Hoping people who have never given p2pool a try will do so now, while the expected block times are sooner than expired shares. I don't love it when earned shares are wasted, that's when I feel like throwing in the towel.

Then we have days like today that help remind me why I like it here, other than the principles behind it which keep me with p2pool in the bad times as well.

This is one thing I have noticed with P2Pool which leads me to suspect there is a bug in it. Sometimes if I stop my P2Pool to do some maintenance on OpenSUSE and start it up later I noticed that I am lucky to get 10 shares a days, were as if I start and stop it randomly afterwards eventually it starts doing 10 shares day like it's doing right now; this is why it leads me to believe there is some kind of bug in the core of P2Pool because technically this shouldn't happen period.

243  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [185 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: April 28, 2014, 06:36:52 PM
I am seeing huge swings in the predicted payout, which is normally spot on when a payout occurs because I verify it when I look at when I get paid.

My 100GH miner has fallen to .001 while my 180GH/s of miners is .008 to .010 which doesn't make sense for the 100GH/s miner.

I see the global pool is now 485GH/s.

It depends on when the last share was found by your 100GH miner.  Expected payout will indeed swing around wildly as hash rates increase/decrease, share difficulties increase/decrease, shares drop off the payout list, etc.

To see what I mean visit p2pool.smoothrunnings.ca:9332

I saw this link in the KNC forum post but didn't see any posting in this tread moving forward.

I think the second story below the first is a great story, people are unsure if they made the right decision swapping their Neptune orders for a 3TH Jupiter. Regardless if KNC needs to do a better job at QC seeing a 3TH 28nm rig leads me to believe the Neptune at 20nm will be much faster at hashing. So I am going to wait for my Neptune. Smiley

Let's just hope that KnC has realized they need to do a better job at QC (quality control) before the Neptune's start ship.
246  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 21, 2014, 08:33:32 PM

Every Titan order is in Bitcoin, unless you converted a Neptune purchase.

Yes but not every Bitcoin order is a Titan. Semantics matter.

Anyway, back @ topic, as the Innosilicon A2 already exists, and will be mass produced til kingdom come, by the time people get their Titan, it will be obsolete.

Therefore i would advise anyone against ordering one, even if it is only due to the miserable pre-order conditions.

KnC really has enough money to fund their R&D.

Innosilicon is a very small company, once their miners start flying off their shelves they will have very hard time keeping up with supply on demand that many people will panic and drop their orders leaving negative remarks on these forums about their customer service performance.

Just as the ASIC's before I am sure KnC reserves the price to provide faster than posted Titan mining rigs.

247  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / GPUs and FPGAs replace ASICs was Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 17, 2014, 05:21:15 PM
With the way technology is going and the transistors getting tighter together it won't be long before we have to start using liquid plasma to cool the chips; like they use in some of the CRAY supercomputers. And yes I am referring to ASICs too! Smiley
248  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / GPUs and FPGAs replace ASICs was Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 17, 2014, 04:59:00 PM
Yes, my English is not the best and your math competence zero. Let me write this slowly because I know that you cannot read fast.
Calculating a hash takes <1s, due to a special condition it is a bit more complicated with Bitcoins. They way they do it today is Brute Force. ASICs are perfect for this.
Expensive in developing, very cheap in producing. But you cannot do anything else with them. Once they do not use Brute Force anymore, they are dead and GPUs are much faster,
because general purpose. Got it ?

Conan

even 10 years down the line, your gpu is not going to hash as much as an usb powered ASIC.

bitcoin ASICs are useless for anything other than hashing, but GPUs are now useless with bitcoin mining. world will never ever mine with GPUs again..

Yes, there was also a time when people believed the world is flat. World will use GPUs again, because they are much faster. Maybe you should leave the current
orthodoxy about the world is flat. And in 10 years down the line, ASICs for hashing are dead, I would say already after summer, but this is just a rough estimation.

Conan

GPU's are dead for mining Bitcoins, unfortunately ASICs are getting closer to their death that next step will be something like quantum computing. This is how technology evolves so using your logic would mean that at some point we would have, or would need to go back to the 8086 CPU.

Btw, if you think the planets move around the sun in a geocentric orbit then you already believe the world is flat. Smiley

KNC took a stellar reputation and turned it to shit in record time.  How did they manage that?

KNC don't believe in their products, nor do they want to take any responsibility for them. That should be a massive red flag for anybody thinking about ordering from them.

If... we'll start to see all these parasites die off.
tl/dr KNC are assholes Grin

Man, that is harsh stuff.

I wonder if KnC really doesn't believe in their products.  I wonder why 'no refunds', 'no warranty' strategy has developed. I agree that is a big red flag of sorts.
If you got a October Jupiter last year with faulty die0 boards, KNC refused to act legitimately and take responsibility to replace them straight away - at their cost - which is how it should be for a manufacturer who ships faulty goods.

They took a stance that forced us customers to hold onto their faulty equipment. They made it so that it cost them nothing, while it would cost customers thousands of dollars in loses/downtime to resolve the problem caused by knc poor engineering/very poor quality standards. That, after many of us already lost thousands of dollars due to them shipping late.

As they are now selling these boards at $350 - which is no doubt still making them a profit - it's pretty clear the COST of these boards is a lot less than $350. What do we reckon - $200? About 150 euros??

So it just goes to show how disgusting their treatment of customers was in the past. They could have replaced 4 faulty boards at a cost to them of about $800, but decided to fuck everyone with faulty boards instead.

tl/dr - KNC are greedy scum who like nothing better than to fuck their customers to line their own pockets.

still tl/dr - KNC are greedy parasites. The host is rejecting them now!

Don't buy anything ever again, don't buy a car, your clothes, or your cell phone because those too cost a lot less than you think to manufacture yet people are making a killing on selling them to you!

Gosh really, before you start bitching at KNC for making a living at selling their mining gear you should really take a good look around you at the things you buy. I think if you don't have any equipment ordered from them right now that you need to say out this thread for good!

I am letting KNC do their thing and hopefully with any luck I will be able to make my ROI on my Neptune whenever it gets released.

LOL

I never said it was KNC, go back and read it... and my info comes directly from coindesk....
It's the same investor group who was involved in starting KNC, and I even mentioned Brock Pierce directly, as well as the guys from wall street...
and they get profits from KNC endeavors...
So, a portion of Boden profits are indeed in this.
... and in a sense... since you mentioned it...
Technically... KNC really is mining to bail out Gox, however indirectly... good point, thanks.  Tongue
I guess it really depends on how big the investor's slice of the pie is....

So it's all just bullshit you made up.  Thanks for clarifying that for me.
Hey, DROPT...  look, and read.
http://www.coindesk.com/investor-group-offers-buy-mt-gox-one-bitcoin/

No apology necessary dropt... just read next time I give you a link instead of talking out your ass.

off-topic rebuttal...
and rascal.... if water can't be turned into fuel, what's this?
http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/10/tech/innovation/navy-new-technology/
Guess the navy is full of it too.

If Mt Gox can rebuild their transaction system and the rest of the infrastructure correct; not an easy feat as they would have to start over moving away from PHP and MySQL they could bring themselves back from bankruptcy.
251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core (Bitcoin-Qt) 0.9.1 released - update required on: April 11, 2014, 09:31:34 AM
How do you compile this on openSUSE? There are no instructions inside this build that explain how to compile/make Bitcoin-Qt/Bitcoind on any version of Linux and what dependencies are needed too. There seems to be a lot of assumptions being made...

Thanks,

If you are using the graphical version of 0.9.0 on any platform, you must update immediately. Download here. If you can't update immediately, shut down Bitcoin until you can. If you ever used the payment protocol (you clicked a bitcoin: link and saw a green box in Bitcoin Core's send dialog), then you should consider your wallet to be compromised. Carefully generate an entirely new wallet (not just a new address) and send all of your bitcoins there. Do not delete your old wallet.

If you are using any other version of Bitcoin-Qt/Bitcoin Core, including bitcoind 0.9.0, you are vulnerable only if the rpcssl command-line option is set. If it is not, then no immediate action is required. If it is, and if an attacker could have possibly communicated with the RPC port, then you should consider your wallet to be compromised.

This vulnerability is caused by a critical bug in the OpenSSL library used by Bitcoin Core. Successfully attacking Bitcoin Core by means of this bug seems to be difficult in most cases, and it seems at this point that even successful attacks may be limited, but I recommend taking the above actions just in case.

If you are using a binary version of Bitcoin Core obtained from bitcoin.org or SourceForge, then updating your system's version of OpenSSL will not help. OpenSSL is packaged with the binary on all platforms.

Download 0.9.1
Announcement

Other software (including other wallet software) may also be affected by this bug. OpenSSL is extremely common.

253  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 10, 2014, 08:50:33 PM

I do believe however because of the difficulty level increasing that KNC will need to make the first batch of Neptune's at around 6~8TH/s and the 2nd batch 10~12TH/s for there to be and ROI, and my numbers could be off by +/- 1TH too.

They won't.  The power consumption would be too high and nobody would be able to run them.

Actually people would still be able to run them, it would just require them to run them inside a co-lo.  Smiley

254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 10, 2014, 05:15:49 PM
Sorry if this is a noob discovery, but no refunds on the Titan made my decision easy.  Refunding.  Even the "Customer Appreciation" batch isn't worth it.  The Bitcoin price needs to be $1200 to break even, and that involves leaving the machines run for a LONG time.  The future is so uncertain with these astronomical difficulty increases, possible equipment failure downtime, etc.

$10K is just too much for each Neptune.  Even if they started shipping the rigs right now, which they won't, we lose almost $2K waiting on them for a week.  Even the Franken Jup doesn't make sense.

Buying BTC right now versus waiting for the price to go back to $1200 earns you 2.5 BTC to 1

First of all you can't really compare BTC to USD like you are doing right now. Since BTC isn't regulated there is no regulatory body that sets it's value if there was we would see the price of one Bitcoin in USD be the same price across all the exchanges around the world. Bitcoin is only worth what someone will pay for it.

I do believe however because of the difficulty level increasing that KNC will need to make the first batch of Neptune's at around 6~8TH/s and the 2nd batch 10~12TH/s for there to be and ROI, and my numbers could be off by +/- 1TH too.

Just a hint...

I had 3 very first Neptune orders.

I refunded them the day after this plan b bullshit.

Now I have 14+ th working....

What do you think?

What's plan B?
256  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 05, 2014, 04:31:41 PM
This is the KNCminer thread can everyone please take their off topic posts to other more suitable threads or start your own thread.  This thread is garbage now and the only KNC talk is by haters who probably don't even have a KNC device or pre-order.
Okay, so we should all stay silent until there's something new in KNC news? ... and let KNC pull more wool over our eyes without any rebuttal or speculation?
Good luck with that.
I got news for ya...   even some of the biggest doomsayers in here STILL have Neptune on order, and have every right to vent in here, and warn others.   Yes...even Edgar     Just sayin'

off topic is off topic tho, and agree.

But if you are referring to the tax issue, it's totally relevant and "on topic" to any miner, or anyone contemplating purchasing one. ANY MINER.

With that said...

I just love how the IRS decides to slap on the BTC taxes in such a big way only two weeks before taxes are due. Most individuals and businesses have long since completed their taxes, and now have to file amendments before the 15th, or face another 10% penalty for filing late! And Miners in USA are especially screwed, enjoying a 25 to 45% income tax on what was mined, which is tallied at the value the day it was mined, which forces a daily cashout, or you incur capitol gains on top of that. You, as a Miner in USA can literally be taxed up to (39top CapGain) +(35% top Income tax) a whopping 74% for mining, and holding (if held less than 1 year)Yes.... Seventy four percent! Feeling abused yet? .. You simply cannot mix income tax with Capitol Gains without losing out bigtime...
Mining needs to be treated exactly the same as CGains only, not income tax, it just is not fair or realistic, and adds a speculation that makes mining too risky in USA imho... period.
Income tax on mining? That's like buying a job at wallmart for 10 grand, and getting taxed triple for doing it.

All I have to say to posts like this is DO NOT PANIC! And most certianly do not let your monkey minds play tricks on you! Unless there is something announced by KNC Miner or a verified rogue employee this is all just hearsay; at the end of day who are you really hurting or disappointing? KNC or yourselves? Certainly not KNC!

257  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 04, 2014, 06:36:05 PM
Yeah, they read in here that we found out they are making 3 mil a day off our boards, and are preparing an announcement.
There's not much they can say to change the situation.
This will be interesting to hear after a month of silence on Neptune, and reading that interview yesterday.

I think if they are making money off our Neptune's they should have at least the decency to use my Bitminter creds I added to my Knc Miner account so they should be technically using that to mine and not be using their own method with my equipment. But if they want to reimburse me the Bitcoin's they have mined with my Neptune so far I would be happy to provide them with walled ID. Smiley

258  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Maxicon pool setup - stuck! :( on: April 03, 2014, 11:53:28 PM
I am still new to linux in grasping it.

I started building a Maxcoin pool using MPOS and the instructions found at - http://forum.max-coin.net/index.php/topic,11.msg17.html
I am stuck at the database section it asks to create a db and use the following command:

grant all on pooldb.* to ‘pooldb’@‘%’ identified by ‘PUT_A_VERY_STRONG_AND_LONG_RANDOM_DB_PASSWORD_HERE’;

When I do this I get the following error:

ERROR 1064 (42000): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that the corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '%' identified by 'my-long-password' at line 1.

I am using Unbuntu 12.04 up-to-date and using the info on the page I linked above I used the commands it provided to install MySQL, so I am not sure if it installed a newer version that doesn't support this command or if the person who wrote the tutorial f'd up, IDK. I have tried following up in the other forum but looking at the messages it looks like its become a dead forum.

If someone here could help me I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

I purchased 50 Units and 19 of them were damaged in shipping. Why were these not put in cases?

Please pm snoopy_nzl in regards to damaged units. He handles shipping.

You never gave me a discount for the damaged 19 units or replacement parts. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=12487

I will never purchase from you again and will tell all my friends to avoid you at all costs.

Beastlymac is a Liar and works with bad associates.

Uhm, if someone stole Bitcoin's from you and it's worth the fight to go after them, why aren't you legally going after them? It's your property and to you and others it has value. So go after him.

I think people are too afraid to use the legal system to after criminals in the Bitcoin's market. But once someone does I am sure we'll start seeing a flood of people who have been hold back doing it too.
