I recall compiling statistics for forum merits gained in the WO only, there already were a few “WO-legendary” members…
Up to yesterday's data dump, 150472 slightly over 12 Merits were sent within the WO-thread. That's almost 10% of the total.

Great. Thanks to the this statistic being on public display, we're gonna get a new round of accounts shitposting for merits again, I can feel it.
Sorry for that. I've corrected it.

that original 150472 merits (per day?) number.. you know of course that is now the new target to hit right? WO peeps are nothing if not competitive.
242  Other / Meta / Re: Request: Disable merits in the Wall Observer thread on: September 01, 2023, 10:15:23 AM
I made this post yesterday:
Observing 27,145@stamp
Where am I?
In the past Undecided
It received 4 Merit. I've made better posts that received 0 Merit. I think it's safe to say earning Merit in WO is even easier than in Meta.

it gave me a chuckle for whatever reason - so one merit from me... thats my story and im sticking to it

and now i must resist going back and giving 49 more.

In the last 10 years, that I have been with the company (Bitcoin). The most telltale sign of price upward movements is bitcoin moving back to the exchanges. Until we see the large volumes and these movements....plan on going sideways for a bit.

This says that it was true until Q1 2020, and at least partially wrong since then:

https://en.macromicro.me/charts/29045/bitcoin-exchange-balance-total

ok

so its true until it isnt true

got it

but anyway.. when do we get rich?
244  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 30, 2023, 06:18:25 PM
So go back and delete it which would take away the merit jjg gave you

at least I think it would.
Merit does not get deleted.

edit: I think only theymos himself can delete merit, and I think it may have been done before in abuse situations, but I can't find any link.

okay then why is this on front of thread?

"This is a self-moderated topic. If you do not want to be moderated by the person who started this topic, create a new topic. (170 posts by 5 users with 9 merit deleted.)"

Does merit only drop if the op (intofront) deletes it?

Or has merit deletion on this thread been ended in both cases.

okay testing it. 6215 in place with the tester

ok shows 6215..

so plus 10 merit

take THAT

edit: shows 6225 merits now
245  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 30, 2023, 06:12:08 PM
Does merit only drop if the op deletes it?

When there is a lot of spam in an area of the forum, what we should do is report it and ask the moderators to delete it. It shouldn't be asking to end merits.

aside from @infofront's light touch, WO is a more or less a moderator free zone per theymos

247  Other / Meta / Re: Request: Disable merits in the Wall Observer thread on: August 29, 2023, 01:06:54 PM
No no no no no no nooooooo.... Do not disable this topic Because we need fucking easy merit with our shitpost  Cheesy

Honestly, I would like to know how the Wall Observer is easier to get mertis, compared to other areas of the forum?
I don't understand this theory. But, okay.

short version?

at any given time half the WO regulars are drunk and the other half might as well be drunk.

bitcoin is flat, though...who of OGs is the most responsible for it?

Blame Philipma1957.  At this particular moment, I cannot think of any candidate more eligible.

[...looking at the screen menacingly]
There is no answer, but in the old old times, when there was no rain, they always found a witch/warlock whodunit and sacrifice her/him for the "greater good".
Sometimes it 'worked', too.

I would not want phil to be sacrificed.. especially since he does not have very many years left.. I mean maybe 2062 at the outside of things.
I tell you what if I make it to 2062 I will personally give you 0.0105 BTC.

In fact I will deposit it right now.

3Mw9mvjTjWtpxhmctdLa5Awj5gGUbSChKV

To all I will pay JJG 0.0105 BTC if I live to 2062

someone quote this please

Your such a good sport... .and that would increase my current BTC holdings above 0.6405 BTC, that is presuming that I would be able to keep HODLing and/or building my current stash without losing significant parts of it.

Another thing, I know that I am ribbing on you, but I doubt that my odds of making it to 2062 are that much greater than yours, and even if they might be greater, I cannot even be sure that they are greater.

Maybe we might have to agree that fillippone should be a substitute beneficiary, since he will likely still be bitterly waiting for Proudhon's payout at around that time.

well I am ¾ Italian and fillippo is kind of Italian for Philip so Quote this 1 more time.

If I philipma1957 live into the year 2062 and past Jan 01 of 2062   to be precise:

I will move the 0.0105 BTC into JJG's

BTC address of his choice

If JJG is dead by Jan 01 of 2062

I will move it into the BTC address of fillippone's choice.

BTW I will be 105 years old in Jan of 2062 so good luck on collecting the gift as I do not think I will get there.

It would be a great reason to give away the gift.

time locked tx?

250  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: We Ordered and received a new mining box. New photos as of Aug 26 on: August 27, 2023, 11:08:10 PM
this just shows my ignorance but with that kind of airflow from the water curtain so close (a few feet looks like?) to the shelves the asics will live  on that there is no water mist that could get sucked in. but that box looks to be pretty well thought out so obviously it must work somehow.

when you say you might raise the box to above the level of the concrete/cinder block wall are you talking a few feet (looks to be 1/2 way up that door so 3-4 feet)?

I think The WO should have its own Ban power (within WO thread) and then we can just lose those twatter spammers permanently.

This is a good idea and I can conceptualize it in my head. Instead of there being a "bump" button on the thread, there is a "vote to ban" button under each post by a member under Sr. Member. It would be visible to pre-ordained members of a Council of WO, maybe 20 of the most active WO posters (ideally limited to Hero Members and Legendaries). If a shitposter receives "vote to ban" clicks from 5 or more council members, they are automatically banned from posting in the WO for a month.

i kinda like it (the vote thing), but instead of a thread ban how about that persons posts are automatically hidden to everyone, but with a "unhide" button so that suckers peeps can still see it if they want to.

basically it would be a community ignore thing that individuals can override.

253  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 25, 2023, 02:44:03 PM

If you think that OGs are here for the "money" merits you are an idiot.
What does OG stand for, old geese?

Old Grumpies
254  Other / Meta / Re: Request: Disable merits in the Wall Observer thread on: August 25, 2023, 01:37:45 PM
many merit sources hang out in the WO, so running out of merits doesnt really apply.

If that's the case and these people are abusing merit in WO, or farming, maybe it's the sources who should be reviewed?

many merit sources (like myself) never asked to be sources. we just logged in one day and were informed that we were now sources. perhaps one day some will log in and be informed we are no longer merit sources.

until then? lol well some of us probably wont care either way one bit.

255  Other / Meta / Re: Request: Disable merits in the Wall Observer thread on: August 25, 2023, 11:47:00 AM
How people choose to distribute the merit which they earned is completely up to them. If they want to give it to people in the WO thread for some posts that made them laugh, or because they are friendly, then that's their choice. Eventually they will run out and the problem will dissipate itself.

many merit sources hang out in the WO, so running out of merits doesnt really apply.

However you can use report to moderator since posting an image with source is considered as pointless/low value post

generally, moderators dont do anything in the WO; it has special "dont moderate" status.

260  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Fun & learning Bitcoin blockchain downloaded on 1TB Silicon Power 2.5 SSD on: August 21, 2023, 10:45:04 AM
There's getblock errors after 935MB download when Fulcrum runs with Bitcoin Core on the same SSD. Bitcoin Core get stuck it doesn't shut down without task manager.

So I'm confirming Silicon Power SSD A55 runs Bitcoin Core with I/O issues already posted. If you're running intensive downloads simultaneously you shouldn't buy this SSD because it isn't able to do it.

im more inclined to think some software on your system is corrupt or the OS is hosed. any ssd will continue to run under heavy load, worse case it will just throttle, not cause something to toss an error.
