I was able to get a V NFT after buying a random one 20 x.

Question: if I buy a random NFT for 50 BTC they is listed for more than 50BTC, who covers the difference? Does the seller get screwed out of the difference? Or does the forum cover the difference?

fractional reserve?
1222  Other / Meta / Re: Introducing NFTs for forum members on: April 01, 2021, 10:49:54 AM
this is going to take off bigly. its a good thing the forum NFT blockchain doesnt need blocks or very soon they would be so large no one would be able to store or manage it.

BRILLIANT!

so why doesnt btc do the sensible thing and follow this such obviously better tech??
1223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal created crypto checkout service!! on: March 30, 2021, 10:51:10 PM
im wondering how they will handle payments done with btc for tax purposes. like do you get a 1099 or something? do you have to keep track of your cost basis and such yourself?

Anybody still buying this dip from the ATH? I get paid in my fiat job tomorrow. Going to buy as much as possible, help me decide. I will buy £5 worth of bitcoin for every merit I get for this post. I will prove my purchase tomorrow with a screenshot.

Keep on stacking my WO family.

You are starting to push it now.

i will give 1 (one) merit to the next 5 (five) peeps to reply that they put Slot Kid on ignore. if any of those 5 peeps to reply already had Slot kid on ignore, they will get 2 (two) merits. no need for screenshot, honor system applies.

Slot Kid putting himself on ignore does not count.

edit: will merit in the morning.

What's wrong with Slot Kid?  I have even merited some of his posts in the past..

Oh, you mean the merit begging angle of his cited post?  I am surely NOT subscribing to merit begging, but seems to me that Slot Kid might have been merely trying to mimic the recently successful merit begging of ImThour, no?

ImThour got 115 merits for his merit begging post that happened to have been phrased in a "more hip," subtle and catchy kind of way that inspired, incentivized and motivated his target audience (namely generous merit givers to peeps supposedly buying bitcoin... blah blah blah).  Just a difference in tone, subtlety, or word choice between the two, no?  both present their lil selfies with merit begging conduct, no?

1st time around (ImThours post) it was cute. and obviously worked out merit wise (although more importantly btc wise for ImThour). 2nd time? nah.
I have been reading about all the comments about me and how people are targeting my post as merit begging. It wasn’t. It was just for fun, i even added a max limit and I literally bought $1000 worth BTC that day from my exchange.

Also, It was the choice of those who sent me merit if they found that post interesting enough.

I have never begged merit, nor I support that. It would be awesome if you keep my name out of this shit.
Thanks!

to me, your post kinda came across as parody of merit begging posts (sort of an in joke around here, or at least it has been in the past), and i got the impression you were buying a grand of btc anyway as you mentioned that specific limit. so, sorta on the edge.

Okay you owe me 1 merit.

There, I will buy that merit debt from you, now he owes ME!

hmm. so that means if you bought his Slot Kid ignore, that means you qualify for 2 merits as you will have philips, plus youre adding him again. close enough to already having him on ignore for me.

obviously i need moar maths and science to figure this out

Then I also copy them manually on my “sacred” notebook and keep it somewhere safe in the house. As for keystore files, I have bought an external SSD drive rather than a HDD (because HDD’s can easily be damaged by falling even unintentional).

the problem with SSDs is that if it dies there is basically a zero chance of recovery. whereas with a standard spinner HD there is the possibility of recovery via dedicated recovery services (transplanting platters etc).

spinner HDs are reasonably OK with small drops as long as they are off. the heads will be parked.

It seems whatever your brain latches on first.
One time I looked and it was cw, next time ccw.
disturbing.

its also started one way and then reversed and gone the other way half way through a couple times.

What if it looks like she's waving one leg back and forth in front of her?

or worse, no movement at all. as i have animated gifs set to only play once and the 1st couple times i saw this in a post it was at the last frame so done with the animation. but since i didnt know it was an animated gif and thought it was just a static jpg optical illusion thingie i stared at that last frame of the gif for, well, an embarrassingly long time expecting some perspective change before i caught on and refreshed the post lol

edit: cw. usually.

Felt cute, bought dip.

There was a dip?

I grabbed some at 50.9 and 51.5 which is a dip from 60 k.

~18%  is a "dip"? typically i dont even notice fluctuations unless theyre over 33% so to me greater than 33% is a "dip"

isnt there a vetted, maths and sciences fact based definition of "dip" somewhere here in the WO? like, percentage wise?
1232  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 27, 2021, 04:23:17 PM
I started with Bitcoin when someone at work told me about it.
That was when BTC was $90. It was the best reason to buy video cards.
Made some because I was intrigued... not because I thought I would get rich.

[...]

The moral of the story
1. Those video cards made 250x their money
2. Even small amounts of BTC will bring you >100x returns if you just leave them for 10 years or so.
3. Bitcoin is the best investment in this century....

i still look in awe at the 1st btc mining card i bought, an ATI HD6870. i should gold plate it and mount it on the wall or something.

and my wife laughed at it saying you paid 250 bucks (i think.. cant remember exactly) for THAT??? i didnt care though as i could game on it too so win/win

Eek.  If my line is right... we are in for some rough waters...

*edit* On the daily we are still good... barely.

wait are we panicking? i didnt miss it did i? hope not, i hate missing a good panic.
1234  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 23, 2021, 12:35:56 PM
Not sure we're out of the woods yet.

Set an order at $52.5k just incase, but my gut is telling me that my order @ $53k isn't going to get filled, and we start a slow recovery from here.

had an buy order at 53.1k fire off last night.

my next lowest buy, also at 52.5k, is still there.
1235  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 23, 2021, 12:53:54 AM

1236  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Selling this post as a NFT. on: March 22, 2021, 10:02:45 PM
I'm selling this post as a NFT.

Bids starting at 1 BTC.

(I am willing to trade for a post of similar value.)

The post isn't the original anymore, its merited now, is it worth less or more now Huh

Merits improve the value over time. Hence the long term investment returns.

and Elwars provided added value by commenting on it too. im sure the price is way up there now.
1237  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 22, 2021, 01:02:23 PM

Good morning WO!
Observing @ $55,920

bleh.

so much for the much vaunted "stimmy checks to btc" theory.

more like those who didnt get stimmy checks took that amount out of their btc holdings for one reason or another to make up for it.

i call this new theory "the proudhon theory" (with an assist from mindrust).
1239  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 21, 2021, 10:12:47 AM
We know the stimmy was $1400 - Please tell us you spent the rest on steaks and beer.  Wink

Didn't need a stimmy. Does not feel right asking for one.

Not even if you're a taxpayer?

above a certain income you dont get them. im thinking bob is a wee bit past that amount.

I have it set to play George Clinton's "Big Pump" at 100k. And I don't care if I'm in a meeting with a CEO, when it goes off I'll be dancing on the nearest flat surface.

the CEOs desk could be a good start
