241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the advantages of having Bitcoin? on: November 20, 2017, 11:08:20 AM
The main advantage of bitcoin is it is untraceable  and safe. it is so simple to trade and easy to carry.  but it is too volatile. when comparing to normal currency its value is high but the normal currency is still idle.
242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin is better than Cash. on: November 20, 2017, 10:48:01 AM
Bitcoin is also better than cash. Because bitcoin has a less volatile than cash. Bitcoin can be used all over the world without have a conversion process..
243  Economy / Service Discussion / Great service from e4btc.com on: January 23, 2016, 09:30:13 PM
Hi all,

I've ordered twice from e4btc.com now, and would like to leave a review here for anyone considering to buy stuff there.
The first time I ordered was in march 2015, the second time in december.

The first time I ordered it took a few days before the order was sent, but then I got a tracking code and the package arrived quite fast in good state. The product was new in box, not refurbished or second hand. Packaging was also very good.

The second order was only a few weeks ago, in december 2015. I ordered a phone. The site promised 4-7 delivery days, which isn't bad for cross-country shipping. Sadly I got a mail the next day that the phone was out of stock, and could not be delivered. But I could select a different product from the site or provide them with a link of a other webshop to source the product from.
Obviously I selected the latter and sent them a link of a shop in my country. They put the order in very fast and I received my phone 2 days later. So in the end the delivery of my phone was 4 days since I ordered with e4btc.com, even though they didn't have the phone in stock. Great delivery time!
I must also add that throughout the process they kept me up-to-date continuously. Great customer service!

I will definitely order from them again and can highly recommend them.

Things they can improve are the site layout and search engine, and also the payment process is a bit weird If you make the payment, then after a while it gives you a new BTC address because the old payment timed out. Just wait until 10 (I think it was 10) confirmations and it'll show as completed.

Cheers,
Geert-Johan

I assume the Android client does not have to be updated?

No, Android doesn't have to be updated for Delta.

Not sure if anyone else is having this problem.. I tried to reset my password on the new forums but not receiving an email.  Checked spam folder. Not sure if I associated an email address with my username on the old forums.  Was that mandatory?

nevermind I used a different email address than I remembered.  Must be old age.  All is good.  Thanks GJ.

Sure no problem Smiley

I PM'd you on the the email address that I see registered. Please reply back with a different email if this one is no longer in use.

The old forum was built with SMF. Because of this we had very few possibilities to upgrade and improve the forum's feature set and layout.

We looked at several options and found that Discourse is a communication/discussion platform with a great features set. It's also under continuous development and supported by a great community, so we chose to move to discourse.

All posts and accounts have been migrated. You need to reset your password because the encryption used at SMF differs from discourse.

Would this change require a soft fork with wallet updates?

It would require a wallet update.  So we can continue along without the change, and if we need to update the wallet for something else in the future, we can include it.  Or if the devs decide they want to see a smoother blockchain sooner, we could push it on a faster timeline.

But honestly, it's not a necessity, just a suggestion.

-Fuse

Already thought about this, the downside is that it will at the same time limit the effectiveness of the algorithm.
I don't think we should do this now, I see some 25-30 minute blocks, that's the max.. Which I think is fine for now.
249  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NLG] Guldencoin.com/download — Guldenwallet now available in the App Store on: February 02, 2015, 06:54:45 PM
There's a lot of discussion regarding DIGI.  I just want to make some observations/statements:

DIGI is working.  If gazo is a profitability script based MP, and they are pulling less than 10% of the blocks(8.76% currently), than it could be argued that CM would be in the same boat.  And it could further be argued that gazo and CM would be fighting for that 8.76%.  We wanted a response to MPs, and we have it.
It seems like that for sure! Although I'm really curious what happens when CM joins again.

Profit for dedicated miners is up.  There is no arguing that.  When 40% of the blocks are going back to the miners, and not CM's wallet, that's a win in my book.
Very happy to read this! Grin

Block times are off, that is true.  When I woke up this morning we were at a 00:03:44 block time for 24 hours, which was a true 24 hours since the change.  There have been some longer blocks, but mostly because we've hit some pretty high difficulties.  The difficulty isn't overreacting, it's reacting.  When blocks are found in less than 30 seconds from difficulty 1000 up to 2000, it's going to go up.  The good thing is that it drops back down like it's supposed to though.  We come back to a more reasonable follow-up block, rather than dropping too low.  Now, if that block isn't solved in time, you're going to go lower.  It's just the nature of a single block retarget.
We had some lucky blocks and miners joining the 1.3.1 network after they found CM had left. I think these large hashrate joins caused some diff spikes, but can't be sure.

A second point on time is that DIGI is best suited for block times closer to, but not less than, 1 minute.  I'm not saying that we're running a broken version of DIGI, but rather I think that Kilo's original suggestion of halving the block time is something worth looking at in the future.  Note... not the immediate future, but at some point down the long road ahead.
Totally agree here. We should only do this if somehow the slower blockrate becomes a real problem. (too many transactions or confirm times, etc.)
Until then, let's wait and see how a higher hashrate will stabilize the blockrate back to 1 per 2.5 minutes.

I just want to know if people are happy with the change, or if we're experiencing buyer's remorse.  I'd love to hear an official response from the devs as well.

GJ is still observing Fuse, but from my non-dev perspective it looks good. I think GJ will give it a few days before making a statement.

It will take more time to get to a good conclusion, but I already did some quick analysis.

I have a "time series database" connected to the Guldencoin Explorer backend and I'm gathering block time and count metrics with it.
The graphs I rendered let us see some interesting stuff, I made a screenshot and edited it with comments and marks.

....
coinmine taking 5%, jumper Gazo1q taking 10% of the missing 15%..  which makes things interesting.. *IF* both clever and Gazo1q did not switch to 1.3.1, they've got about 50% of the hashrate..
...

50% is not an issue in this split. The "correct" chain is the one with the correctly calculated difficulty, no matter how much hashing power you've got to say otherwise..

Brace yourself, Digi is coming.
79 blocks to go: 3h 17m
Probably a bit longer than that. I estimate the change to digi will happen somewhere around 16:20 CET.
Monitoring closely. Join the chat at http://chat.guldencoin.com

My pool is also ready. Someone wants to test it?

I see that the protocol magic was changed in this code change, but I'm not sure if that has something to do with this whole discussion, but /GJ could probably shed some light on it.

-Fuse

We changed the magic in the 1.3.0 release. The magic wasn't changed again in 1.3.1.

Cheers!

/GJ, what is the protocol magic?  I never figured out what it is used for exactly.

-Fuse
To recognize connecting client if is valid client. For example, if you try to connect Litecoin to Guldencoin node it should fail.

Yes, this.
It's a 4 byte pattern that is sent at the start of a message between nodes.
It's an early indicator to see whether the connected party is actually a Guldencoin node.
It's not a "secret", nor is it a 100% foolproof method (there's a chance someone connects and by coincidence sends the same 4 bytes). But it filters away 99% of wrongly connected peers.
It also helps to make sure that different cryptocoins using the bitcoin protocol don't ban eachother. If there wasn't a magic then a disconnect won't happen because the protocol used between the two peers is correct, but they will eventually ban each other because the blocks/chain is not compatible. This could result in huge blocklist and a fragmented network. So yeah: the network magic, it's pretty damn important Cheesy

Sweet az, was just thinking out loud  Grin

The concept is great, it should just be something else than tickets..
Maybe add credits on the OV chipcard with Guldencoin..?
255  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NLG] Guldencoin.com/download — Guldenwallet now available in the App Store on: January 27, 2015, 11:37:58 PM
is there plans for including the iOS wallet in international mac app stores at a later date? would be easier for visitors to come loaded with NLG then to carry cash, already done the conversions before they left home, so they know how much they have to spend

also what about the public transport providers, like trams and trains, buy tix with NLG (especially if able to get a discount) would bring it more mainstream, lots of people use public transport and you could probably do a media campaign around it or at the stations

OV is moving away from tickets and towards OV-chipkaart. I don't think they will add a new payment method for a service they're shutting down.

FYI.
In case anyone wonders why some seeds are rebooting.. I'm updating the servers with some quite important security patches.

257  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NLG] Guldencoin.com/download — 1.3.1(DIGISHIELD) now available MANDATORY UPDATE! on: January 18, 2015, 04:48:57 PM
Hi all,

I'm back Smiley

Looks like the update is converging nicely over the network.

It also looks like the estimated time is changing slowly because (on average) blocks are mined less often than normal.
See: https://digi.guldencoin.com/
This is nothing to worry about though, just a heads up.
258  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NLG] Guldencoin.com/download — 1.3.1(DIGISHIELD) now available MANDATORY UPDATE! on: January 09, 2015, 10:29:00 AM
Created a new wallet from source on 32-bit Linux without any problems.
Well done guys !

GJ: why is no new android wallet required ?

I'm going to guess because the android wallets are usually what they call a "lite wallet".  It just represents your wallet on the blockchain without having to download the blockchain.  Think about what would happen if you had to download the entire BTC blockchain to your phone via 3G to use an android wallet.  OMG... I would want to kill myself. lol

Long story short, it doesn't need to confirm blocks or mine or anything like that, so it wouldn't need the code that tells it to do that.

-Fuse

Oh the android wallet /does/ download the complete chain, but it doesn't save all data, only relevant data.
However, the android wallet performs less checks and trusts the seeds (https://seeds.guldencoin.com, seeds 6-11 are down intentionally), therefore digi is not required by android wallet.

I'll be out of the country for a about a week, and I'll be less online. Rijk will be able to contact me in case of emergency.
Cheers!
259  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NLG] Guldencoin.com/download — 1.3.1(DIGISHIELD) now available MANDATORY UPDATE! on: January 08, 2015, 08:03:16 PM

I have just sent out a signed alert onto the network asking everyone to update their wallets.
We're also contacting as much pools and exchanges as possible. Since we have taken a safe amount of time (3 weeks), I assume all mayor parties will have updated by then.

As usual: if you didn't update in time:
 - backup wallet
 - remove blockchain
 - resync blockchain with wallet

But again, we're spreading the news early enough for everyone to update.

Android wallets are not affected by this update.

Cheers!
