It is a free market so I wont say "don't worry about the price" or anything similar. I would advice not to depend on Darkcoin for your immediate living expenses, that is not wise and makes for a weak investment because the moment you have any real life emergency you will have to dump loosing value and affecting the coin. I think is better to invest money that you wont need for around a year or so. I have been working very hard for DRK and not participating much in the forums because I am a firm believer that our success is out there engaging new businesses and spreading the word about Darkcoin with investors and early bitcoiners.

The people that can influence the success of the coin are not reading specific altcoin threads, at least not on a regular basis.  So if you can dedicate some time, volunteer over at DCT and help contacting real businesses, we are slowly adding supporters and have already received amazing business leads from the community. Some of the major exchanges and crypto companies have open conversations with us but are not ready to add Darkcoin right away, it will take time and we need to show consistency and a better general climate is needed, but we are taking advantage of this stage to develop relationships so that when the time is ripe we can add several services in a short time.  In fact there are a few announcements that will be coming out soon, our strategy right now is adding Darkcoin to one crypto service at a time no matter if big or small until we can reach critical mass but it takes time.

I think we are seeing a strong consolidation phase and Darkcoin will emerge as the clear leader in terms of coins with privacy features. Time has proven that this enterprise requires talent, honesty, commitment and endurance that Darkcoin has and no other coin in our space has.  With InstantX we will not only be valulable from a privacy perspective but all around. No matter what the price does the development team never stops working, Evan is committed and motivated by the idea of creating something big, real and useful. This ensures the continuity of the coin, and in this trying times endurance is the most important thing, price swings happen we will eventually catch our wave upward, specially after proving how resilient the coin is and how serious is everybody involved, other coins will die and the best coins will continue. What we are seeing right now is just natural evolution, the ability to adapt to the changing environment and the survival of the fittest.

+1 Help out the Darkcoin Chameleon when you get a chance! I'm am in contact with so many people it's hard to keep track!

DARKCOINERS: PLEASE SEE THE NEWLY RE-NAMED BITCOIN RUSH EPISODE THREAD!!

This is not the official video, and I have re-named the thread, to avoid confusion.

https://darkcointalk.org/threads/bitcoin-rush-episode-thread.2768/

I am in contact with the creators of the Bitcoin Animated Video, so we may see a slick, professional promo video made soon...but for that we will need to crowdfund a considerable amount of money.

Stay tuned,

Tao Of Satoshi

This is a great idea! Great way to #buildthedarkness! Good luck to you! I would help but I have so many other Darkcoin projects on the go I don't even have time to update my nodes right away!
2424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW and Darksend | Instant TX on: October 28, 2014, 11:33:05 AM
I repeat: THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL VIDEO!!!

Do you guys understand? I can't put it any simpler...

We understand, just having a discussion. I would like to know if everybody else thinks BitcoinRush is a good fit for Darkcoin?

Myself and the team feel he is a good fit. Of course, you can't please everyone, but he is gentle, and funny (opinion) and would be good to talk about a coin with a DARK reputation and stereotype.
2425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW and Darksend | Instant TX on: October 28, 2014, 11:30:38 AM
Where are you getting these ideas from? If your referring to the joke between myself and Ignition75, it was started in the Darkcoin the Movie thread where he would be played by the Rock and I would be played by Johnny Depp as Rango.

I never once said I was going to be in this video, as of now it's only the host and Evan. Please don't make baseless comments. Be constructive. This is not "THE" promo video for Darkcoin, it's just an episode of Bitcoin Rush that we are going to take advantage of to educate people about DRK in a funny way.

It's going to happen, if you don't like it, don't participate in the planning!

I hope you do decide to contribute, however, you are also a Darkcoiner...

Yeah, I thought you were hinting at other people being in the video...my apologies i read between the lines on that one.

Why was Bitcoinrush chosen to represent Dark?

I will always contribute when I feel I can add something. Glad we can disagree gratefully and not make anything personal.

Yes, you got it man! The only thing I need to stress is that this is not the best we're going to do. When InstantX comes out, there will be a full-court press of PR videos, press releases, and contests all done PROFESSIONALLY. Among them will be our official promo video. So just enjoy this for what it is, and we'll move on with the awesomeness that is DRK...
2426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW and Darksend | Instant TX on: October 28, 2014, 11:26:53 AM
This is where we have a chance to outperform Bitcoin, create a hip, cool factor to carrying Darkcoin...once we do that then the merchants will come naturally!

Read what you have said that, watch Bitcoinrush videos...that doesnt work does it. We need to find somebody else.

Agreed. The official video should be simple, clear, informative exciting.

A um..quirky.. interview with this fellow shouldn't be "official". But the official video needs broader support, clean execution.

hip, cool factor? One person's cool is another person's fuckoff.

simple, simple, simple.

Tao you do great work but I also do not see this as the right path for an offical video. If it's a bit of fun for you go for it.
But the official video needs to be something quite different.

I repeat: THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL VIDEO!!!

Do you guys understand? I can't put it any simpler...

Again, this is not the only video we will ever make.

This is just a light hearted piece to introduce people to Darkcoin in a funny way. Nobody is pinning their hopes and dreams on this...some people are making it out to be a bigger deal than it is.

Thanks for replying Tao. I disagree and think if we dont take this seriously, the video will turn out cheap. I know you guys think when you are writing it that it sounds funny...but I guarantee it wont come across funny to anybody outside the darkcoin "inner circle". For example, dressing up as a chameleon/lizard? Not only dont I get it, nobody else outside darkcoin forums will get it. Please dont use this for 15mins of fame, it will do and do more harm than good.

At the end of the day, we need to pay for good marketing...there is no way round this. All the big online magazines/blogs will want to talk with Evan after Instantx is released, there will be lots of interview opportunities in the future.

I feel Bitcoinrush was chosen simply because one he met one of the guys, this is not a good enough reason. Would this not be a good reason for one of the Polls to see what the community thinks? Surely i cant be the only one

For anybody not following, Bitcoinrush (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kROQg4YpZdI) has been chosen to do a video for darkcoin. I personally disagree, dont think he has broad user appeal and I find his delivery style dated.

Where are you getting these ideas from? If your referring to the joke between myself and Ignition75, it was started in the Darkcoin the Movie thread where he would be played by the Rock and I would be played by Johnny Depp as Rango.

I agree, we need Merchant Adoption underground markets. we will need much time for that

No! We need Merchant adoption in general, not underground markets. Silk Road adopted BTC and it didnt go through the roof because of it. It went up and steady. Underground will do nothing but tarnish DRK's potencial.

Not saying I'm against underground markets, but lets think bigger and wider.

This is where I think a lot of people get it wrong, we do need Merchant Adoption, yes, but we should also heavily focus on customer adoption! This is where Bitcoin is doing it wrong, sure, everyone and their dog ACCEPTS Bitcoin, but relatively few people have it to give them. This is where we have a chance to outperform Bitcoin, create a hip, cool factor to carrying Darkcoin...once we do that then the merchants will come naturally!

These trendy video animations with professional narration are able to explain complex ideas quickly, efficiently and more importantly in a fun way that is accessible to most people. This is what people want, not some nerds sitting around for 15mins going into far too much detail. Interviews will come in time, plus they will be free (im sure the world will be interested in how Evan has fixed a few of the mighty Bitcoin's shortfalls).

Video one: short and sweet (Key points only)

After all hard work Evan’s done, it would be a shame to ruin it with some halfassed attempted at marketing. People will be watching, if this video is cheesy/cringy, the whole crypto world will be pointing and laughing. We should be showing people that Darkcoin isn't just for nerds, doing this interview with Bitcoinrush only cements that fact. Was Bitconinrush chosen to represent Darkcoin because somebody met him?

Edit; These are just examples to get my idea across, just so we are on the same page...is it just me that thinks this?

I agree with everything you said here. We will certainly need professional videos done in the future. Nobody's denying that. This is just a light hearted piece to introduce people to Darkcoin in a funny way. Nobody is pinning their hopes and dreams on this...some people are making it out to be a bigger deal than it is.

Can someone help me please?

I get this error

"inbound port is not open. Please open it and try again. (19999 for testnet and 9999 for mainnet)"

when i use masternode start PASSPHRASE

You have to open PORT 9999 on the server

what command do I have to input?

Depends on your firewall setup. I like ufw, here's how easy it is:
Code:
sudo ufw allow ssh/tcp
sudo ufw allow 9999/tcp
sudo ufw logging on
sudo ufw enable
sudo ufw status

Tried those commands, all i got was...

USERNAME is not in the sudoers file.  This incident will be reported"

I followed taos guide perfectly, and have already had one running no problem.

Can i not just add the :9999 in the .conf file somewhere?

Did you copy/paste the firewall.sh code correctly?

something weird is going on with my masternode payments - I've only had one actual payment since updating to Onyx, but chaeplin's site shows 3 other payments where I was the 'expected payee' but 'masternode payee' says a different address, like so:

10/21 05:58:36   156139 [1][2][3]   darkcointalkorg   innmlist: XvH3qoo6F8c9yLCunVaAFt1rY7xj8ngXji
10/20 17:18:59   155846 [1][2][3]   miningpoolhub   innmlist: XjsADiWCCbtNzjKkDN3QSkcsYCZKQ9m3b4
10/19 17:08:04   155293 [1][2][3]   trademybitcom   not_detected: Xh2z4esuArr7Q82Pnw1SuKB32QB5TRrhrz

any ideas?

The network is transitioning right now between the last version 10.14, and ONYX. Some pools are on 10.14, and they will only pay MNs that are on 10.14. If they try to pay an ONYX MN, it will be rejected and a random 10.14 MN will receive the payment. This also works the other way. What you are seeing is the network sorting out these incompatibilities.

Maybe it's stupid question but.. why some blocks still have "tx_0_vout_1" instead of mn payment? This one for ex.: http://explorer.darkcoin.io/block/000000000018e7b526906ff3ec8780ffc9875d1ec3b27f7a3ba2481719877968. I thought such blocks must be completely invalid after previous enforcement. Surely we have more than 51% on RC5 or higher.

Evan has turned off the enforcement for the time being while the pools update to get ready for the MN rate increase. It will be turned back on shortly, or when 90%+ have updated.
2438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW and Darksend | Instant TX on: October 21, 2014, 07:53:16 AM
Camo, it's not so hard. I've never used Linux before. I didn't understand even commands Wink but I have succeed to start my MNs with a WeirdDog's guide and WinSCP
https://darkcointalk.org/threads/complete-masternode-guide-windows-local-linux-remote-vultr.1367/
I might give this one a try tomorrow. I wish I could find one that just gets to the point and explains it... Tante's has been the most useful, so far, but I'm just going to have to set aside all other projects and sift them for the facts and remove all the jibber jabber. So much blah blah blah, zero explanation, occasional blind "copy this command" with nothing at all about why or what it does... I get the feeling the people writing the guides don't understand it themselves, which is why there is no explanation. No hostility intended, I do feel it's irresponsible to run a web-connected server having no clue how it works... But greed drives people to copy/paste and really all I'm seeing is a very, very verbose copy/paste outline... I don't do that. I understand, then I don't need to know any "steps" at all. I just do it because it makes sense.

One thing that I seem to be learning... It doesn't matter if the "masternode genkey" is run from the local or the remote, so long as the same key is in both .conf files... flare says do it remote, tante says do it local... I still haven't figured out what tao says, it's like his guide is written in Japanese, I almost never have any idea what he's talking about...

HAHAHAHAHA!!! I love you, too Camo!
2439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW and Darksend | Instant TX on: October 21, 2014, 05:27:22 AM
stuff totally unrelated to what the person quoting it is about to say
I've been reading your and Tao's guides over and over again for days... I have not figured out even one damn thing for setting up a masternode. I cannot understand even one sentence from either of your guides, and I've been using Linux since before there was Gentoo...

I'm glad it helps some people get nodes up, but it hasn't spread any understanding, and I won't be running any MNs blindly without an explanation. I do not just follow steps. Ever. Period. Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Looking forward to 16.10.1 and a masternode.conf explanation...
