2461  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Pizza Day - Why old members are no longer active here on: May 23, 2018, 11:19:14 PM
1. Lack of innovation
It's been 8/9 years and bitcointalk.org did not evolve. It's still an old forum, old design, old fashioned, single point of failure (password), no notifications whatsoever, etc. I'm sure many of you may disagree with me but I'm a computer engineer and people get bored of seeing same thing after few years. All software companies have been updating their product on regular basic in span of 2-3 years. If you can't change anything... change the design. Give some new look and new feel to the users.

If we look around  linkedin, stackoverflow and quora how they have evolved in last few years. Responsive design, mobile apps.

What I'm missing most on bitcointalk is notifications. I should get notified when someone replies to my Topic, ok there is email but it's so damn difficult to track. Give me some notification bar or counter to let me know that there is something new going on. I want to know if someone tags/quote me, that's what healthy discussion is supposed to be "engagement".

Yes this was all ok back in 2010, but today no this can't work, bitcointalk has to change from it's old school. BTW where is the new software for the forum?

2. Lack of Management Involvement
Yes harsh but truth again. See the recent example of howeycoins, people were so happy to see Theymos is here. We are missing this so much. Why bitcointalk succeed back in days? Because Satoshi himself was here he was engaged in discussions with people. Yes I understand Theymos, Cycrus you guys are very busy. But buys in what? Please let us know in your busy schedule there is some space for bitcointalk also. Please keep us updated at least what is going on in the background for bitcointalk.

If Thyemos and Cycrus keep old and seniors members involved, I guess many of the old members would still be here and they will come back too.

3. Focus of discussion is diverted
Back in days bitcointalk was about "bitcoin", but today no its f*cking damn about Bounties and ANN that's all.
Let's accept this is also part of evolving, Bitcoin can live with it. Still BTC market Dominance is 38.9% not bad. So what did we do here? Nothing just sit and watch them spam bitcointalk.

There should be strict checks on Bounties and ANN threads, bitcointalk should help to minimize the scam and only legit announcement and Bounties should be allowed to stay. Let the bounties and ANN thread should be created by company's account only. As soon as someone realizes something fishy or scam going on it should be "nuked" immediately (I like this term "nuke" used by hilariousandco so often).

Yes it need time and investment but come on owners this is your baby. How can you allow someone to scam here? Yes we can't control but as soon it becomes clear why not nuke and stop it.

4. bitcointalk is money making platform
No it's not!!! It's platform to discussion your ideas of making money, to get honest opinions on your thoughts and ideas. PoS was coined here on bitcointalk, yes ethereum also started from here. So bitcointalk is not all about just ranking up and started earning free money by shitposting.

I usually don't quote such long contents but here I am quoting it for the first time. Don't know why but I liked it and I want the admin notice it. You said it mate! These are some solid dissections. Like the rest, I always thought, it's the spamming but this should be an eye opener for the admin.

Lack of innovation is the one I guess killing the forum. In addition with you example:
Consider Facebook in 2010/11 and now. Back in those days Facebook used to look like a simple php driven website and now it a massive application with enormous features.

Think of 2010 versions of windows, mac, apple, android. You don't want an iPhone 1 to have now, do you?
2462  Other / Meta / Re: If this contiunes, we'll lose the Bitcoin Discussion topic on: May 23, 2018, 10:28:17 PM

Good work mate. Seems like the mod took care of them already.
2463  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] on: May 23, 2018, 10:20:03 PM
Let's decentralize trust and reduce abuse by making all default trusted users hand picked by theymos, with no possibility of disagreement!
Yeah let's do it! It would be fun.

Decentralize trust = Picked buy theymos
Theory of everything

Lots of Hackers are out there. I want to replace my ether wallet to hardware wallet. I think its a good decision. Can someone help me to find a good hardware wallet? Tell me some details about hardware wallets. I don't know anything about it.

I use Ledger Neno S since a year. No issue with it yet, feel very comfortable and safe of course. You can have multiple coins in one device. There are others as well like Trezor and etc.

If I am not mistaken then they will see their local time on the shares and stuffs on Facebook/twitter. So, you should be fine logically however better to discuss with the bounty manager and/or make a post on the bounty topic for your concern. It will be a relative issue. Different manager will have different style of counting the data.

There you go, another suggestion (from SFR10) of asking the bounty manager. Go for it. Good luck.
2467  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Timezone on: May 23, 2018, 06:32:51 PM
Hello, i just need to know what timezone are we following here? Im here in macau and right now its 1:55 AM of May 24, 2018 and i joined a bounty which is in week 2 from May 21 - 27 Bitcointalk time. I just shared a post in facebook and of course the date that will appear there is already May 24 and if i share 5 post each day it will be now May 24-28 in Macau time will in bitcointalk time it will be May 23-27. Just need some advise whether to continue sharing or might as well start next week.. Thanks

P.S the sending of the report is not through the thread but through google form thats why when they will click the link it will be May 24 already in my time.

My suggestion is to use https://time.is

You can compare time here and there to find the local times. Welcome to the forum.

A little advise: Don't run after too much bounties. Try to learn how the forum works, engage with members , make it your own local pub first.
2468  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 + 8 Merits every week! (Round 7) on: May 23, 2018, 06:19:33 PM
If you would like to become a Merit sponsor (so that I don't run the risk of expiring my sMerit), please post here or send me a PM.
Hi mate, I would like to be a merit sponsor for first to third place for any upcoming round. I will always keep 7 sMerits available for this challenge.

By the way from last Monday, 21st to till now 24th May - I am wearing the link of this post voluntary. I PMed you for some queries but seems like you are busy. Don't mind to reply the PM, I am ok now.
2469  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Post Review (Improve your posting behavior) on: May 23, 2018, 05:53:40 PM
Looks like the person that posted theirs for review deleted their post. I was planning to get around to that today, but if anybody else is interested I'm around and willing.

Friendly bump here, put the word "merit" in the subject and you gonna have some more success Smiley

That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I'm not going to be giving out merit for this service, and so it seems a little strange that all of the sudden nobody is interested in hearing my opinion their posts. Makes me think I was being taken for a run at my merit with the last thread. I'm open to the possibility that it is simply due to the change from Service to this section, but more realistically it seems like people were hungry for the merit even if they had no chance at receiving it. Just the fact that "merit" was involved in the title of the thread was enough to attract them.

It was me. I can't actually recall why exactly I did it. Sometimes I go to my post history and delete some comments which lately I think they were unnecessary.

Leave this guy alone mate enjoy your lunch.
Someone with little common sense will understand what is really going on here, I already stopped responding his stupidities. There are intelligent people all over the forum few stupids like these accusers are just trying to mess up to cover up their mistakes.
2471  Other / Meta / Re: Do we have Edit history feature at all? on: May 23, 2018, 01:58:38 PM
Great. I have my answers now. I searched for it but did not find any related topic. I should have used "Editing history" instead of "Edit history". Thanks you Welsh and pkmoney. I am going to lock the topic.
2472  Other / Meta / Do we have Edit history feature at all? on: May 23, 2018, 01:39:33 PM
I was wondering if the Mods has edit history feature? if yes, then wouldn't it be nice to make it available to members as well?

Recently I'm dealing with a member who opened a topic against me on the Scam Accusations section because s/he is simply mad at me. The guy edits his OP and responses through out the topic too much without mentioning.
Latest archival of post number #1 #2 #12 #14 #18. The user edits his posts too much time with already answered posts. The added contents on the same post then get missed easily to be answered.

We learn from experiences. I never had this experience so, never thought about a feature like this would be in need. I guess in general, an edit history feature (like Facebook) would help the readers to clear their head with all the edited steps in serious cases.

Archive.is helps but it's not actually enough IMO. You are pretty much lost when it comes to too many edits.

Your inputs will be highly appreciated.

2474  Other / Meta / Re: sMerit level not topping-up after a month or so? on: May 23, 2018, 11:41:27 AM
SInce last few days it has been observed that sMerit points are not topping-up after month.  Question How often does sMerit get top-up?
If it is monthly: then why it is not reflecting?

Does it require current sMerit to be drained in order to get new merit points?

PS: I've referred original merit thread which covers its introduction. It does not cover this.

Looking at your merit history, I do not think that you are a merit source or are you? I am pretty sure you are not. Then I have no clue how this concern you?
Are you not mixing up a merit source with the sMerits you get from the received merits by other members?

When merit was introduced, you were giving (airdropped, you can say LOL) some initial Merits and sMerits depending on your rank at that time. Since then I see you have received 14 more merits which earned you more 7 sMerits. You get 1 sMerit against each 2 merits you receive from the members.

If someone sends you 1 merit, the 0.5 sMerit is not wasted; it is just not shown until you get another merit point.
2475  Other / Meta / Re: Automated distribution of Merit. on: May 23, 2018, 11:32:03 AM
This "something" can be based on their number of posts and time (as in case with the activity) or it can be something else(please suggest).

You are giving the power back to the post count and activities. if so then how would you control the post quality stuffs especially for lower rank members? Merit came here as a QC (quality control) for the forum so that these signature spammers do less spamming especially the newbies and Jr. members with no clues with that they are doing. Also, most of these Newbies and Jr. Members keeps posting to rank up as well.

IMO merit is doing fine. May be we need to see more merit source and some well arranged set of rules about spending sMerits to stop the abusing.
2476  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Pizza Day - Why old members are no longer active here on: May 23, 2018, 10:54:31 AM
From yesterday I promoted to post on Ivory Tower, I made some replies there by the way. Believe me, I felt a peace inside while exploring the section. I even encountered a topic where the OP was concerning about the forum, if they remove signature campaign. The spammers will dramatically drop and the forum will also lose massive amount of visitors.

It's a hard decision to make. I imagine the forum was not this much crowded before when those legends were here.
2477  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: I'd never heard of ruthenium on: May 23, 2018, 10:51:21 AM
Technical analysis is akin to praying at a shrine to Jesse Livermore and hoping you're going to make money.  Such things should not even be a part of Ivory Tower, sir.  They shouldn't even be mentioned.

*lol*
I was making fun of them sir. I know they won't even bother to make a discussion here since the post is not going to count for them and other stuffs.

If they decide that they can get as much control over motoring from other fuel sources, then all those electric cars will be on the scrap heap, and motorists will be forced to switch to fuel cells, or some alternative.
For example, using the solar energy. There will be solar power cars replacing these electric and oil driven automobiles.
2478  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Don't let them disarm you. on: May 23, 2018, 10:16:00 AM
The idea is to snatch as many Bitcoin as possible while fuding & keeping the price stable.

They Fud/partial dump Bitcoin today, you rush and sell.  Selling = handing them your Bitcoin or better still, you sell - they buy (it's like disarming you). Note that they may be buying back the Bitcoin with money not accounted for (unlimited printing of money).

So they continue with the fuding/dumping and we continue selling until all our Bitcoins are sold off except Satoshis and few others.
Their biggest fud might get most people selling, thereby SERIOUSLY crashing the price.

The traumatized sellers become extremely cautious while the fudsters continue scooping up everything.

I expect to be indirectly attacked soon. They may be watching me all the time. I imagine angry evil faces all watching?.

Actually IMO I see the opposite scenario. Consider XRP price when it was around $3 from 0.23$

People gone crazy thinking it will hit 10$. They started selling their Bitcoin/Eth and buying XRP. When you are buying XRP, you are giving them your precise Bitcoin/ETH.

They are staking your Bitcoin/ETH and you are taking a coin (?) that does not even fit the criteria of a cryptocurrency.
2479  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible to post same thread in different forum? on: May 23, 2018, 09:42:11 AM
Hi,

I dont know whether it is ok to post same thread on different forum if it is quite related to both of the forum.1 For example, if I found some organized scam related to ICO or MLM scheme which I also want to post in my local country thread.

or It will be a violation of Bitcointalk rule base?

As long as you use a reference which is clearly visible then I believe it should be ok for BitcoinTalk forum. Other forums may have their own set of rules. If you copy paste something from other forum or website without any reference they you might get caught on plagiarism ban.

These are the some options I will consider to keep myself safe in BitcoinTalk forum.

Option 1:

This is the body of the article from the other forum.

Code:
[quote author="www.theURLofTheOriginalArticle.com"]This is the body of the article from the other forum.[/quote]

Option 2:

At the beginning of the topic I will write an introduction with the reference URL which will clearly explain that I already posted the same topic in somewhere else.

1 A little update after noticing hilariousandco's response below
2480  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: I'd never heard of ruthenium on: May 23, 2018, 01:33:02 AM
Yes, 10k per ounce back in 2008. Used in cars, catalytic converters IIRC.
Shouldn't we call some technical analysis experts from Altcoin Discussion section? They can enlighten us with some suggestion of when to buy. Seems like it's gonna have a bull run and this time it will cross the last ATH  Grin

Buy time Huh
