ICEBREAKER, long time no see! Maybe you could help me with a little problem I'm having:

Dash De-anonymization Contest

Icebreaker and other trolleros: I have donated $1 to Monero's development team. I sent 0.25 Dash (TX ID: 59d51690d4b56ddbf1e393fa8d3a49bcfc3247f270f36be3b6ee411802666cba-000) to shapeshift.io, which converted it to Bitcoin and sent it to the official Monero donation address listed at https://getmonero.org/getting-started/donate/.

I challenge you to de-anonymize this transaction. To make it just a little easier, I only used four rounds of Darksend, so it's exponentially less private than it would be with the maximum eight rounds.

Please tell me what address this transaction originated from.

Cheers!

Glad to help.

The source of your "little problem" is that the token $1 bug bounty is insultingly low.

It's almost like you're trying to discourage bug bounty hunters.  Is there a reason you want them to Leave Dash Alone?

ShadowCash, for all its other faults, did offer and pay out a substantial reward to Shen, the guy from Monero Research Labs that found a huge problem with their bad crypto.

If you want a comparable current case, 5 BTC is the going rate for the kind of hyper-specialized meticulous research Dash needs in order to fix its bad crypto.

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/48y9lm/dr_nicolas_t_courtois_who_spoke_positvely_about/

If Dash can spend thousands of dollars for a soda machine, why can't it offer competitive rates for penetration testing?

Are you expecting highly-educated people to do such detailed, challenging work for free, or would you prefer it not be done at all?

Are hellobitcoinworld & co. *really* so stupid, stubborn, and pushy, or are they secretly on our side and trying to make Classic look bad?

I can't decide which is funnier, their insistence that pools push Classic on unwitting users or their endless whining about Blockstream+Core+/r/bitcoin Sensor Ships.

Problem:  Hardly any miners GAF about Classic.
Solution:  Pools should impose Classic on their miners.

Problem:  Hardly any Redditurds GAF about /r/BTC.
Solution:  Admins should force theymos out of the sub he build up over the last 5 years.

They're really mad about their brigade tactics being called out and stymied with a bit of CSS.

Just thought I'd drop in and LOL because waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than 2 weeks have passed since this bold declaration and still no 20 MB blocks and Mike Hearn has ragequit.

I told the Gavinistas XT would get #R3KT like Stannis on the Blackwater, and that's exactly what happened.

Now they are reduced to Reddit-lawyering, in a desperate quest to find something theymos did wrong that they can tattle to the admins about.

The stock market is too volatile recently. So the people are seeking safe heaven. They will buy gold first, then bitcoin.

And after they buy Bitcoin, they will buy Monero.

Gold soars into bull market as global growth fears mount
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/03/04/gold-soars-into-bull-market-as-global-growth-fears-mount/

Quote
Gold is back in a bull market for the first time since 2013 as concerns about global growth rise.

Gold spot prices climbed to $1,272.77 an ounce on Friday, after settling at $1,264.25 on the previous day.

Thursday's close marks a 20pc gain from the most recent low of $1,052.94 in December, meeting the typical definition of a bull market.

Signs that US growth is slowing and an expectation that the Federal Reserve will delay further interest rate rises have pushed up prices of gold since the start of the year.

I guess this is why Frap.doc kept a stash of gold for himself, while telling anyone who would listen they should sell theirs and buy Bitcoin.

Look at this guy working himself up into a whiny froth and blaming theymos for all the evils in the world.

There is now a whole new generation of bitcoin whales, sitting on big profits from the Ethereum revaluation. Those profits are not doing anything at all. They are earning zip return. Nada.

I'd market it simply as a financial product

I wouldn't say nowhere, I've put my ethereum profits into margin lending, and it's earning me a fair amount.

Although as someone with about a 1/4 stake in a pooled MN, I do agree Smiley. Although the time it has taken me to earn 5 dash has been much longer than simply lending out BTC. I've already made enough in a month margin lending out 2BTC to buy 5dash than 2BTC in a dash MN would have made me in a month.

I still don't deny that having a stake in an MN is awesome and as a former dash GPU miner (no point now since ASIC will destroy profits) I'm happy to have a constant stream of dash for the foreseeable future, but simply margin lending has given me more back than simply having a stake in a dash node. Obviously the return will be less stable since this past month there has been a substantial increase in alt trading and pumping, so effectively people selling shovels (i.e interest lending margin loans) are able to make a fair amount.

I'm not surprised toknormal's Masternode sales pitch is based on a blatant lie, which was trivial to disprove.

The reason lending BTC (and Dash) to margin traders pays more than Masternodes is simple.

Lending to margin traders is a useful service in The Real World, while Masternodes are just a pyramid scheme with crypto hype bolted on.

As to selling Masternodes as "a financial product" let's now discuss why the SEC/FinCen has thus far ignored the Dash MSB scam's plainly illegal behavior.

My vote is for "honey pot" or "too small to bother."

Any other ideas about why Evan gets away with something that would quickly land the rest of us in jail for selling unlicensed securities?

Whenever I read /r/btc I feel like I'm reading /r/SandersForPresident.
Instead of looking at the results, you should look at the initial reason, the cause.

You are supposedly boycotting All The Core Things, according to https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/48hyjp/list_of_productsservices_to_boycott/

And yet, here you are not boycotting the Axis of Thermos, and there you go running tens of thousands of lines of code written by Core then borrowed by Classic.

Have you any idea how intellectually inconsistent at best and hypocritical at worst those actions appear to the rest of us?

Please feel free to act on your ostensible convictions, and fork off to Bitco.in.   Smiley

I wonder what the chances are that if Bitcoin becomes the settlement layer due to high fees the regular daily transactions will go to LTC.

There's room for more than one settlement layer.  Litecoin and Primecoin can also easily provision Lightning-style payment channels.

So long as it enjoys the highest network hash rate and concomitant security, Bitcoin is poised to be the backbone, or Mother Of All (Transparent) Settlement Networks.

Of course that's only addressing the visible tip of the financial/socioeconomic iceberg.  Meanwhile, Monero is preparing to be the Father Of All (Opaque) Settlement Networks.   Wink

If anyone really cared about Bitcoin being smothered by popularity, Litecoin would be exploding because it's the logical first choice for substitution (IE marginal user spillover).

I'm trying to put some XMR profit into LTC, but just can't.

Why?  Because deep below the surface there are more subtle and powerful currents than the superficial eddies disturbing the surface foam....

"Fungibility provides privacy as a side effect."  - Adam Back 2014

The market is not moving to Litecoin because Litecoin has fundamentally the same blocksize issue as Bitcoin. The market has chosen Ethereum and MaidSafeCoin even though both of these coins are designed to do something that is fundamentally different from Bitcoin. I suspect to a large degree this is because the market does not see a blocksize issue in either of these coins.

Time will tell but if the Market gets the idea that Monero has a solution to the Bitcoin blocksize issue watch out.

We'll need a little more than Two Weeks of hype to establish any kind of market preference (as opposed to noisy pumping) for Maid.  I'm not even convinced Maid qualifies as an altcoin, despite the tenuous linking of its distributed storage system to the overcapitalized SafeCoin chimera.

If Maid is so great, why aren't cypherpunk/distributed p2p system luminaries like Bram Cohen, Prof. Szabo, and Dr. Back tweeting about it?

The general idea behind ETH is wildly popular, but it remains to be seen if Vitalik's specific enterprise is capable of bringing it to fruition.

Litecoin doesn't need to solve the (perhaps intractable/intrinsic) "blocksize issue."  It just needs to keep running and be available to absorb excluded marginal use cases as BTC fees inexorably rise.

But to your point, ETH and Maid do appear to be making the right kind of noises about fungibility and privacy (perhaps having learned from Bitcoin's present accession to the blockchain analysis industry).

The only question is what will be the new support after this? Hopefully more than 170-180k.

This assumes anon is the reason. My take is that the blocksize issue in Bitcoin is starting to be a significant factor here.

2475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 04, 2016, 12:21:27 AM
Things could get interesting if xmr breaks out here.

Its clearly a pump and its not limited to xmr only. Dash is also heavily pumped right now. And I really doubt that suddenly lots of people decided to start using anon right now.

The only question is what will be the new support after this? Hopefully more than 170-180k.

New support is usually at the old ceiling.  ~200k?

Let's remember the present Dash pump started several hours after Monero broke through two huge points of resistance.

Unlike Monero's long-overdue upward correction, I don't think Dash's rise is organic.

It looks like Otoh is pumping Dash in a desperate attempt to keep the Evan's Gate cultists inside the compound, rather than leaving for the Wild & Free® greener pastures of Monero Mountain.

Especially after the high-profile ShadowTrash debacle, I've been expecting an acceleration in the leakage from Dash's market cap into Monero's, and today's "me-too" try-hard Dash pump is just an insta-mine bagholder's futile effort to hold back the tide.

You all should have listened to my advice to dump XMR and buy ETH in January! I've since sold 400BTC worth of ETH and still hold 35k in cold storage.. My XMR holdings are 0 now.

Do it NOW before its too late! Don't forget its all over for XMR once ring signature dapp comes out (Vitalik personally working on it!)

Regardless of whether one alienates ETH investors or not it is certainly the case that ETH has brought a lot of money (and margin buying power) into the market and I do agree with TC that some of that money is spilling over to other markets (including XMR but also unfortunately including a new crop of pure scamcoin (*cough* Maidsafe *cough*) that are being launched at an increased rate).

Fix'd.
