Nice to see a little progress, but like everyone else I am not happy to see it will use 5v. I have a lot of ATX PSUs laying around, it would be nice to be able to use them.
I do not think it was a typo... its kind of hard to accidentally type 5 instead of 12..
Would something like this require much redesigning to switch it over to 12v... as in, if everyone requests they use 12v, can they make the switch easily? I know nothing about PCB design.

Wow, it seems he magically reappeared... Auction still cancelled anyways.

Stop disappearing bro. As you can see in your other thread, I was ready to call the Bitcoin police on you.
At least stop in and tell us you're alive every once and a while.
Congrats on your prototype.
EDIT: I didn't notice you reappeared after your first disappearance ITT about a week ago. But still, keep us updated, your customers in your other thread were starting to freak out (this thread too.) You are receiving $78,000 worth of Avalon chips + much more in knc mining products. Keep your customers updated, this is big money.

Hi FCTaiChi, Any chance you can re-run numbers with updated ASICMiner 10G blade prices and max performance? I think the price should be changed to 10.25 BTC - the current price of a group purchase via reseller. I think that the hashrate should also be changed to 13000 MH/s since people typically run this overclocked with extra cooling in most cases. Most miners also don't like leaving potential hashrate unused if it's an easy overclock. Just wondering if the math looks a teensy bit better on these units. Could actually make them slightly profitable using your calcs, which would be quite an outlier on the low end. Ok, I changed the price to 10.25 BTC. That did help, but at the same time it is getting late in August to be using that as the lead month, so I switched to Sept. Even if a person got theirs today, that would still be only half the month to hash with, and after shipping time it seems much more reasonable to use next month. The overclocking is an issue that others have asked about. If being overclocked is the norm for a certain product I don't mind posting it that way. Currently every miner on the list has their manufacturer spec up. I moved the 10GH to 10752 like it shows on their site, but I would consider moving it up to 13000 if someone has a link that shows that this is the way that most people will actually use it. Basically if you move the columns over one step to the right is what you get from looking at it at 13GH. Rumor has it that you cannot overclock the new blades without hardware modifications, like their current USB Block Erupters. Expect an announcement from Friedcat soon.

RE: My above post I feel so stupid for not following my gut instinct on this one and ordering chips from him.
All these links are from the first 4-5 pages of his Avalon chip group buy. Everyone seems to have settled down when JohnK came in to do escrow, which in hindsight is silly. All chips and hardware is being shipped directly to Ragingazn628, so JohnK can't really help us there. Unless somehow JohnK can get ahold of Avalon/KNC and change the shipping address...
The first post warning of ragingazn: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177994.msg1874180#msg1874180
More hard evidence came shortly after in that thread:
Ragingazn628's Hardforum (tried to) scam: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1684647 More on hardforums: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1660014
Ragingazn628's previous heatware account: http://heatware.com/eval.php?id=77909 Ragingazn628's SECOND previous heatware account: http://www.heatware.com/eval.php?id=78739 Ragingazn628's current heatware account: http://www.heatware.com/eval.php?id=79046 (what kind of an honest person would need 3 heatware accounts??)
Ragingazn628's Ebay (88% feedback, which is quite low): http://myworld.ebay.com/toms.technology EDIT: Umm... this is not 88% feedback, perhaps the user in the chip thread posted the wrong link? 2nd EDIT: Maybe that is him, if you go through his seller feedback only, there is an unusual amount of negative feedback- not a huge amount, but it is there.
Ragingazn628's overclock.net account: http://www.overclock.net/u/154962/ragingazn628 (Note: I haven't looked into his posts/dealings on here, I am just providing this for more identification. It is possible there are more shady dealings tied to his account there, but I am not sure.)
PS: I really hope that the picture these links and Ragingazn's disappearance paints doesn't mean what I think they do...
JohnK, any possibility you could change the shipping address on chip/knc orders you made for ragingazn628?Yet another edit: it seems he has magically reappeared right after I posted this... he just bumped the chip thread. Good, I was ready to call the cavalry in. Now I feel bad for posting all this, but it is what it is...

I would like to bring to the attention of any possible bidders that it appears Ragingazn628 has gone missing. There are some worries of a scam was involved.
Because of the above, and also there seems to be 0 interest in the chips anyways, I am cancelling the auction.
IF you would like to arange something privately, PM me. I will budge from my starting auction price a little bit, more so on Ragingazn628's chips.
Thanks

This is a good example of how not to run a group buy. It's time for me to dig up the dirt I have on Ragingazn628. I've been holding off in hopes that he will come back to us.
Warning: you're not going to like it... Now, let me dig through 4 month old posts to find what I'm talking about.
PS: Not spreading FUD, I am a customer of ragingazn628's Avalon chip group buy, so I am in the same boat you guys are if he never appears again.

There's one problem with the GPU -> ASIC comparison.
It's that Bitcoin ASICs are made to do only one thing, and the manufacturers can lower their prices as much as they'd like as long as they're still making a small profit. They HAVE to lower their prices, otherwise they'd be out of business very soon because people will stop ordering from them.
GPUs on the other hand can be used for many things, and are actually a necessity (if you use a computer). ATI/Nvidia do not lower their prices for GPUs when the Bitcoin difficulty goes up. They do not care about Bitcoin miners, because they have millions of people lining up to buy their hardware and Bitcoin miners are a very small percentage of their customers. The prices stay at a pretty constant rate until the next generation of GPUs is released. Even then, -new- last generation GPUs still hold their value quite well and are usually sold for only a slight discount compared to the newer generation of GPUs.
Although I would not be surprised to see a tapering off of hash power eventually (there's only so cheap these ASIC companies can go before they're not turning a profit). I do not expect this to happen as soon as you guys are predicting. I've been wrong before though, and this wouldn't be the last time either!

I think he was using sarcasm when he said "our friend." I am the new English expert of the Custom Hardware sub forum. /sarcasm

There is no right or wrong way to use the word shill (or any other word for that matter) as long as it's in the dictionary. No, it's actually the other way round... FIRST a word appears in live language (usually it starts in some specific environment: region, age group, subculture, etc.) and THEN this new word (or its new meaning) is racognised and acknowledged by dictionaries (after discussion among experts, where some of them would typically discourage the new word or its new use). But the key point there is that language is LIVE rather than dictated upon us by dictionaries! And if the word becomes massively used even its strongest oppnents must eventually accept and acknowledge it. The same goes with Bitcoin! I agree with you, but perhaps I worded my sentence wrong. I think this is better: According to English teachers, there is no right or wrong way to use the word shill (or any other word for that matter) as long as it's in the dictionary. If you think you can turn in a paper for English class filled with slang and improper usage of words (usage that is not in a dictionary somewhere), then you might be receiving a F. Although there are a lot of slang words which many people use every day, it is still considered improper English to use these words- at least in academia. And yes, I am growing tired of the shill debate as well. Let's just let this thread die peacefully.

Bitcoinorama, I'm not trying to harp on you anymore. I actually feel kind of bad for you for all the flack you are getting, I didn't mean for it to be this big of a deal. However, I didn't make this thread either... But, Merriam-Webster's actual website has different definitions than the one you posted. Perhaps the secondary site you linked to is outdated or just from a different dictionary? I dunno. Anyways, http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/shillAgain, you can use the word however you'd like as long as it's in a dictionary somewhere. I agree that the definition you posted would also be another use of the word shill.

People don't seem to realize that one word can have many definitions. There is no right or wrong way to use the word shill (or any other word for that matter) as long as it's in the dictionary.

Prices will reflect difficulty. As it increases, you'll be able to purchase more hardware.
As far as production goes, Ken is under NDA at the moment with eASIC. The moment he is allowed to reveal production status, he will make an announcement through his PR.
Thank you sir.

I have ordered two Fast-Hash-One base units. Honestly, the way difficulty is going up and the amount of new companies that are offering hardware (that will ship earlier/at the same time as you are planning on), I will not buy any more product from you at the current prices. Are there any plans to become more competitive with your pricing? I am fine with ordering more hardware elsewhere. I just think that you guys are undervalued by the community, and would love to give you a little more business. However, at the current pricing and with all the other options available, there is no way I am going to do that. PS you completely ignored my last questions, please answer if you are able (ignoring me is not a good way to earn more business from me either): Solid questions, I hope these are answered.
Also, is everything still on schedule with production? Any prototypes on the horizon? Have you had to make any design/spec changes since announcing your product specifications and entering the R&D/production phase?

Has anyone produced a graph of clock frequency vs wall power on a batch #2 unit?
I have a GX 850 power supply, and I have mixed messages whether it is enough to power a 4 module unit clocked at 347 MHz.
Although I was advised against this, I've had all 7 four module Avalons running at 350mhz with Avalon's stock 850w PSU running stable for exactly 2 weeks now. I did have one PSU die the first day, but I have had no problems with the others. I just replaced the PSU and she was back to hashing within minutes. I assume you would have to be incredibly unlucky for a blown PSU to damage the Avalon's components. In all my years (aka. 1 year ) of GPU mining, never has a blown PSU caused any extra hardware failure (again, in my experience... your mileage may vary.) As we used to say when I was a snowboard bum in Colorado for a few years after graduating high school, "go big or home." (then proceed to pee your pants while hucking a 50 ft cliff)

Thanks for the update Dave, even though it is a slight delay update, it still made me feel better. Believe me... a 3 day delay is much better than the 1 year delay going on at BFL and the months of delays that Avalon has had. If you guys get your product out on time or even a few days late, you will be tremendously more successful than BFL/Avalon. I'd venture to say you will have many more customers for later shipments as well. Good luck!

A great idea! I'm in for 5 BTC please, tx:323937b0eb361075c77efd1462fd17162a2348f665f7e1ac12fc3359ad94b4bb
Thank you sir, welcome aboard! I am very open about my accounting procedures and every transaction that goes to and from the group account. Therefore, I wanted to mention to the group that Egon had something come up and he needs a refund of this transaction: Egon; 10 BTC; c0b21ddee90177cf7f319e724beb29a37ba60d421d15b40f09a994d4ff772898 I am processing this for him now... just FYI incase someone was looking at the block chain and wondering what happened.

Listen, I'm not saying that you are for certain a shill. All I said was that it was likely, or a better term would be that it is a possibility.
I agree with you ordering with a CC provides more consumer protection than ordering with Bitcoins (duh). I just thought it was ironic that you post something like that where knc is determined as the winner, compared to your previous posting history.
After reading all of your posts for months, is it really that hard to see why someone maybe would think you are a shill?
|
|
|
These clowns don't even know what a shill is.
I even included a definition of the word shill in my previous post ITT because I knew someone would bring this up. In case you missed it: Merriam-Webster: "to act as a spokesperson or promoter" Many words have many different meanings. Just because someone uses another meaning for a word, it does not make it wrong, it just means that perhaps you don't know the English language as well as you thought you did. You cannot deny that Bitcoinorama is a promoter for KNC...
|
|
|
Here we go....
The guy put up a huge post about consumer protection and now hes a shill? Seriously, what the fuck are you guys smoking?
Avalon needs to ship those chips now so everyone is spending more time off these boards.
Notice who gets his A+ rating at the bottom of his OP in the consumer protection thread? Wait for it.... KNC (oh and BFL lol- which is safe to add to the list because he knows BFL isn't competition to KNC at this point because everyone hates them.)
