Welcome to the inherent problem of a deflationary currency.

On the flipside people with access to this deflationary currency will be taking on risks that will help spur innovation and development in ways not seen since the late 1800's
2483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin conference coverage by Smoothie on: May 18, 2013, 08:09:05 PM
More people need to write their forum handles on their name tags.

Unlike the London conference, I would guess that the bitcointalk forum members are actually in the *minority* at this conference. It's been a sea of change since the last conference. Bitcoin feels mainstream. Especially will the free vodka, hostesses and tons of normal looking people.

2484  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: May 18, 2013, 09:08:23 AM

Dude,

There are reports that the module could work with some of sub modules removed. If the whole module is cold it probably means that there is a problem with power cable. If i remember the cable was damaged according to your pictures. Take a multimeter and make sure that power power cable is ok. The second thing to check is to disassemble the module and see if hash power PCB is damaged (the board with connectors where asic are plugged). If above two are ok, you can test all 6 modules separately this is presumption.
About the warranty that shall be commented by Avalon but i think it shall be replaced and it will take time for sure.
If all of the above fails we badly need 10 Asics for Klondike project
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=190731.0
and we would be more than happy to buy part or whole 8 x 10 Asic chips.

PM me if interested

Did you see the STATE it arrived in though? You should definitely be offered a replacement, shipping you a used product that is 1/3 DOA. Think about it of course you're eligible for a repair!

It may be damage to the ribbon cable.

Go to cgminer api log tab and post this info copy paste here and we can tell what module may be down.

This is the log after 12 hours of operation at 300 speed setting.

BTW, bad news for Americans.

If you try to register new WM account from IP address located in the US, you'll see this message:

Is that not just a kick in the pants. This shows that even the big dogs have to tread carefully and not be kicked out of the "global community".

Even if they mean well some people have different goals and are willing to risk more then others with the hope of realizing those goals. With all the projects aimed at facilitating the globalization movement this was inevitable.

Thanks for the update BitSyncom!

One critical piece seems to be missing from the chip datasheet. How do you set the difficulty for the shares? Or is it fixed?

Also, is the HDL code for the FPGA coming?

-a[g

is their a way to set the fan speed at 100%?
2488  Economy / Speculation / Re: Three Paypal founders invest in BitPay on: May 16, 2013, 07:41:17 PM
I was looking up Bitpay the past few days. Great service with the potential to accelerate the adoption of bitcoin on and offline. I not the biggest fan of paypal either but this service seems brilliant.

Bitpay provides a great service, and as you may already know other such services have been used by Avalon ASIC creators to promote awareness of these service type companies.
2489  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wait...Does the March 18th finCen legislation make it illegal to trade bitcoins? on: May 15, 2013, 09:31:10 PM
It doesn't make it illegal, but you have to comply with the regulations.

Correct, but no individual is allowed to exchange Bitcoin in the US anymore. You have to be a registered Money Service Business. Currently there are none?

there is one in canada that is working with a MSB

2490  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt. Gox is an unlicensed money exchanger dealing in "crypto-currency." on: May 15, 2013, 06:59:32 PM
huh?.....

Thats so wrong

Lets me BOLD THIS CLEARLY FOR EVERYONE:

FINCEN now considers SELLING AND BUYING BTC FROM AND TO USD is money transmitting and requires to have MSB. Its CLEARLY stated in MARCH. But no you all are so busy with the price hike!

And having a MSB isn't a big deal. CampBX was able to get their shit in order. What's Gox excuse?

There is no excuse.... Gox will pay a hefty fine. Thats all come down to it. Whats more is that Coinlab will have a good case too. $75 mill is alot bigger than the fine from DHS

The reality is that MtGox user policy already exceeds FinCEN standards, so getting registered wont be a problem. Compliance would only have to be proven at this point.
2491  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 15, 2013, 04:22:18 PM
And the hits just keep on coming.

Quote
In the warrant, a special agent with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), states that there's probable cause to believe Mt. Gox is engaging in "money transmitting" without a license, a crime punishable by a fine or up to five years in prison. The warrant goes on to demand that Dwolla hand over the keys to account number 812-649-1010, which is owned by Mt. Gox subsidiary Mutum Sigillum LLC.

And this is the real killer:

Quote
Homeland Security used a confidential informant, based in Maryland, to conduct the investigation. The informant simply created accounts with Dwolla and Mt. Gox, bought bitcoins, and then changed them back into dollars. Tracing that money, HSI was able to see that the money passed through a Wells Fargo account, number 7657841313, which was created by a single authorized singer: Mark Karpeles, the president and CEO of Mt. Gox. The account shows transfers to Dwolla going back to at least December 2011, according to the warrant.

See ya at the bottom!

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2013/05/feds-reveal-the-search-warrant-that-seized-mt-gox-account/

Quote
Money transmitting businesses are required by 31 USC section 5330 to register as such with FinCEN.

MtGox US LLC may have dropped the ball with their Dwolla account linked to their US company acting as a US to BTC gateway and not being registered with FinCEN.

However other exchanges have already done this.

Cavirtex for one and has an IPO that had sold out in 12 hours.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvELpQ83ApA&feature=youtu.be

SO your claims are nothing but speculation only to serve your self admitted agenda of having btc price drop for what ever reason only you know.

Quote from: Timothy B. Lee
"It’s the first federal action against the currency."

They are entitled to their opinion of the situation even if its author is speculating as to the circumstances behind this recent series of events.

And for those familiar with the past Dwolla incidences with exchanges "tradehill" knows never to do business with Dwolla in general.

People who are being so super bullish despite the US Government telegraphing their intention to do something about Bitcoin should strongly consider protecting their stack. If shit really goes down, it will be a real $110 to $70 drop and you may never see the buying pressure return. Shit gets real at this point in BTC's evolution.

Its been real since the beginning.

Edit P.S. I think this disruption in MtGox Dwolla service effected BTC-E greater then any other exchange. Did you happen to see the price of LTC/USD on the BTC-E exchange?
2494  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Anamur Miners - Definite SCAM! on: May 13, 2013, 05:14:33 PM
Please feel free to pick holes / destroy them before some twit orders from them

http://www.anamurminers.com/

They like eBay too; http://www.ebay.com/itm/63-GH-s-Bitcoin-Miner-SHIPPING-NOW-NOT-PRE-ORDER-/161025749112?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item257de1f078

You could have even have bought discount vouchers from them...

Company's claiming to have a working prototype should in good faith use a payment method like Bitpay to validate their identity and company and location of residence in case of emergencys.

This way they can maintain a level of anonymity for whatever reason while at the same time giving credibility to their claims.

These claims should be considered scams until Identity by a 3rd trusted party has at least been done.

Web site with SSH for domain control verification, company control verification and identity verification is a must.

This is the only way to start such projects.

Anything less is to be avoided and have an automatic scam label attached.

2497  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: May 04, 2013, 01:49:34 AM
Are you running the miners at 300? If so this PSU might not be able to take such high level of load for a long time (at 300 the power consumption should be close to 710 to 720 watts...possibly less if your psu is 80+ platinum). It is also possible that your PSUs were in a "bad batch" (assuming you bought them from the same place all at once)

Well, these were pre-installed Avalon PSU's so you'd think they should be adequate for unit's power consumption. But then again, the whole thing is highly experimental - the 1st batch of never-before-used tech.

Yes, I'm running miners at 300, but everything worked perfectly for a few weeks - why of a sudden the PSUs started popping now? Another PSU went out in the meantime, so now 4 Avalons down till I get replacement PSUs. Sad May it be an increase in ambient temperatures? The weather is getting really hot and I'm having trouble keeping Avalons cool in the afternoon, with all the heat they produce...

Heat is indeed a possibility.

I suggest that you upgrade to a few power supplies that other have with the success they have had. I have taken photos of my upgrade and details before and after on power consumption back on page 7.
2498  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Company Claims to be Selling Bitcoin Mining ASIC Systems: www.asxproject.com on: May 02, 2013, 09:10:37 AM
Well, ASIC scan v2.0. Which is still (luckily) bad enough, all of their products are out of stock.

On the other hand:
If you are real it would be relatively easy to prove (blockchain via mining, send several samples to trusted members, etc.)

It would be good to have a list of questions we could ask people that claim to be working on a project to produce ASIC hardware.

What would you ask if you could do a 1 on 1 interview with them?
2499  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Fast-Hash-400's 400 GH/s each on: May 02, 2013, 03:24:15 AM
Depending on how it all shakes out I might be interested but I refuse to pre-order anything again.  There is no need to gauge interest around here, develop a product that can generate a 'fair' ROI without breaking the bank (or for that matter electricity costs) and you will be swimming in orders before you can upgrade your infrastructure.

Show us something that works and works well and I will show you an avalanche of new business.

Build it and they will come.
2500  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: May 01, 2013, 11:07:24 AM
Has anyone noticed a wave of duplicate shares being submitted to the pools?

I notice a wave of dupes being submitted in the last 3 days.

Happens on both unit #114 and Unit #445 on and off.

Resetting the cgminer solves the dupe submissions.

Last time I waited them out and it submitted substantial dupes.

This happens both on single pool operation "BTCGUILD"
and two pool operation balanced operation "BTCGUILD and OZcoin"

Thanks for the read.

Edit:

on #avalon irc

I asked the question as to what location is the miner in question and its place on the board, and why this may be happening.

Here is his reply.

<xiangfu_> Fan1 - 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 - PSU
<xiangfu_> Fan2 - 16 15 14 13 12 11 10 9 - out
<xiangfu_> Fan3 - 24 23 22 21 20 19 18 17 -out

<xiangfu_> so your miner_6 5 chips broken.
<xiangfu_> or something wrong miner6's hardware or data connection
<xiangfu_> if the chip broken. only thing we can do is replace the chip.
<xiangfu_> if there are [matching_work_count6] => 838. so I think some chips broken. 5 of them.
<xiangfu_> you may need a thermal imager for find out which chip is broken.

I will get the results of the TI later today.
