As I understand, one (20) of 24 miners is partially dead? Can other owners share stats of their units? Is this normal?
How do we access those stats? (Do we even want to look? <gulp>)

cgminer API Log Tab will display those .

I think module 1 strip # 6 of my unit #445 is having issues Smiley

I will open it up and see whats up.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

Has anyone noticed a wave of duplicate shares being submitted to the pools?

I notice a wave of dupes being submitted in the last 3 days.

Happens on both unit #114 and Unit #445 on and off.

Resetting the cgminer solves the dupe submissions.

Last time I waited them out and it submitted substantial dupes.

This happens both on single pool operation "BTCGUILD"
and two pool operation balanced operation "BTCGUILD and OZcoin"

Thanks for the read.

Edit:

on #avalon irc

I asked the question as to what location is the miner in question and its place on the board, and why this may be happening.

Here is his reply.

<xiangfu_> Fan1 - 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 - PSU
<xiangfu_> Fan2 - 16 15 14 13 12 11 10 9 - out
<xiangfu_> Fan3 - 24 23 22 21 20 19 18 17 -out

<xiangfu_> so your miner_6 5 chips broken.
<xiangfu_> or something wrong miner6's hardware or data connection
<xiangfu_> if the chip broken. only thing we can do is replace the chip.
<xiangfu_> if there are [matching_work_count6] => 838. so I think some chips broken. 5 of them.
<xiangfu_> you may need a thermal imager for find out which chip is broken.

I will get the results of the TI later today.

Is there a datasheet for the ASIC which describes the protocol of the interfaces, the pinout, physical and thermal characteristics of the package, as well as the ac timing of the pins?

Aha! The first real technical question asked.

With no answer.  Embarrassed

From the page where you buy the chips:
Quote
communication protocol, reference board design provided in early May.

You read it wrong. Correct version:

J updated my avalon today with the new firmware 20130419.

Cgminer API Log:
Socket connect failed: Connection refused

Does the Cgminer Configuration tab have in the last field:

Quote
API Allow(Default: W:127.0.0.1)

the value

Code:
W:127.0.0.1

?

It allows the web interface to connect and give stats

As for the fan speed issue, I guess you are not mining at this point, so double check your config and [Save & Apply]

Or just reboot the machine after you saved the values

ENM750EWT-S 80plus Gold

Are you running the miners at 300? If so this PSU might not be able to take such high level of load for a long time (at 300 the power consumption should be close to 710 to 720 watts...possibly less if your psu is 80+ platinum). It is also possible that your PSUs were in a "bad batch" (assuming you bought them from the same place all at once)

I got a Corsair AX860 but I've yet to install it. From what I read these are good PSUs.

My Avalon Enermax PSUs are dying one after another. 3 PSUs dead in 3 days, and I can't pinpoint the reason.

Any ideas why it may happen? Is it a common for Enermax PSU to die like this? None of the Corsair PSUs died at the same time.

Anyone had their Avalon PSU dead and was able to identify the reason?

If Enermax is indeed problematic, what is the recommended replacement?

I appreciate any help or advice you may have regarding this...

I have two PSUs dead too.  The first one is Corsair, the second one is Enermax.

I replaced them with Enermax 80+ platinum 1000 watts and Enermax 1250 watts. Both could work stable. (The drawback is that I could not put PSU inside avalon case any more.)

Well, these were pre-installed Avalon PSU's so you'd think they should be adequate for unit's power consumption. But then again, the whole thing is highly experimental - the 1st batch of never-before-used tech.

Yes, I'm running miners at 300, but everything worked perfectly for a few weeks - why of a sudden the PSUs started popping now? Another PSU went out in the meantime, so now 4 Avalons down till I get replacement PSUs. Sad May it be an increase in ambient temperatures? The weather is getting really hot and I'm having trouble keeping Avalons cool in the afternoon, with all the heat they produce...

Heat is indeed a possibility.

I suggest that you upgrade to a few power supplies that other have with the success they have had. I have taken photos of my upgrade and details before and after on power consumption back on page 7.

Open them up and post pictures of the internals, and I may be able to tell you why it died.
Or: I will give you 1 BTC to ship two dead PSUs to me (I am in California).  Email me m.bevand at gmail.com

Dr. Zhang mentioned that the PSU may overheat, my solution for the heat problem is adding two exhaust fans and mount the modules far away from PSU

Hmm, that is actually a pretty simple solution.

Any idea, out there, if any company sells ducts or inserts to isolate the two fans modules from the PSU fan?

I was thinking we could try to increase the airflow over the three modules with the two black fans by using inserts or ducts...and leave the third (transparent) fan to ventilate the PSU via positive pressure.

Edit: Or one of these

I lowered the units max temp 2-3 degrees by making the psu external.
Also The psu will perform better because the external air is cooler.

My temp1=23 and temp3=41 with both fans rpm 1680 and freq 300.

Do you have a USV connected to the PSUs? This may be the reason!!!!

Most USV have simulated sinus waves and PSUs with active PFC dont like those sinus waves. !!!!

Uhm you want to build a water cooling element without having a own Avalon to test it ?

Your customers will be screwd up if you sell them the water cooling elements and they dont work correct.. Because you couldnt test them with your own avalon!
