This is huge.  Black holes are not just theoretical concept now.

Of course black holes are theoretical. Just because we know that something created gravity waves that we can feel, doesn't mean that it was black holes as explained by theory. Even if it was something we could call black holes, it doesn't mean that we have the theory right. The whole thing about black holes is just talk, because we don't really know that anything that we know about them is accurate.

If for some unknown reason Mars simply vanished, we would feel the gravity waves from that as well. Detecting gravity waves is an itty bitty start. We still don't have any idea of what gravity or gravity waves really are.

Smiley

They can 'hear' the gravitational waves going through Earth (us included).  I think you don't realize the gravity (pun intended) of this discovery.

The problem with black holes was we could not detect them because they are black, they don't emit any light.  Einstein theory predicted that black holes emit gravitational waves.  This discovery validates both Einstein theory and validates existence of black holes.  Unless they just heard some other object (other than black hole) that emitted this radiation) we can assume it is a black hole they heard.

It is like having night vision.  Now astrophysicists and astronomers will have new detection method, new 'glasses' when they look at the universe.

I expect a slew of new discoveries (new objects) to follow.  Just like with the invention of the telescope we had new ways of looking at the sky.

This is huge.  Most people don't realize what just happened.

Same thing I'm doing with the current clown we have in the White House; continue serving my country and being proud to be an American. The Presidents, past and present, do not completely define us as a nation. And truth be told, he certainly can't do worse than Barry Obama.
you are wrong. trump will be the worst president if he is elected... not obama..

US needs a good manager to clean up the mess.  Why do you think a businessman will be worst than a lawyer?
Just because of what he says?

In 1988, Trump was saying the same thing:

Russian wars since the end of WW2:

Korean War
Hungarian Revolution
Invasion of Czechoslovakia
War of Attrition
Eritrean War of Independence
Angolan Civil War
Ethio-Somali War
Soviet-Afghan War

Which Russia are you talking about? Russia was not existent from 1917 to 1992. Perhaps you need a few history lessons as well. The USSR is not equal to Russia. The USSR was a union of 15 different republics, including Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.etc. Now if you want to compare USSR with the US, then it is for another topic.
Perhaps you need a few history lessons as well. Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. 1917–1993.
Western world view is that Soviet Union as a Union that collapsed, Russians view it as Russian territory that got lost.

It was a union but not by choice. Russian military bases were established to make sure it stayed a union.  Russian language was the official language and was actively encouraged. All jobs required a good knowledge of Russian.  For any managerial positions you had to be an ethnic Russian from Russia proper.  Even in satellite, Warsaw Pact countries.  USSR was (Greater) Russia.

What you think Putin is doing?  He is trying to 'Make Russia Great Again' so he is flexing his aged muscles where ever he can.

Harry is right though, but just thought it was the idea of how wars were won.  So I took out this comment.

Cut funding.  Ideology loses its potency when you are hungry.

Attack the infrastructure.  They will fold like a house of cards.

The Canadian military has been ordered by Justin Trudeau’s Liberals to draft plans to house more than 6,000 Muslim migrants on a long-term basis at military bases, according to documents obtained exclusively by The Rebel (see below.)

Included in the Department of National Defence budgets are hundreds of thousands of dollars set aside for “religious support," including the purchase of Muslim Korans, prayer mats and foot-washing towels.

The plans also call for the construction of mosques or “worship centres," using taxpayers dollars.

Politicians care about next elections.  That is all they care about.

Liberals are bringing new votes, and breeding more future votes as a result.

The law of gravity is real. Do you remember the story of the apple falling of the tree and hitting Newton in the head? Go look it up. Gravity is universal law.

Gravity Theory has to do with the things in nature that make gravity work. They are theory because nobody has formally proven what they are.

As Brian Cox said, Quantum Physics is probability. Quantum Physics Theory is how and why QP works, etc.

What is so hard about this?

Smiley

So something is real if you're able to see it?

The mirror is real, even though the only thing you see when you look in it, is yourself.

Smiley

So quantum physics is not real because?....

Quantum physics is real probability. Quantum physics theory is real theory. Quantum physics is not quantum physics theory.

Smiley

Damn what you're saying has no sense dude...

So for you gravity is real but gravity theory is just a theory we shouldn't consider as a fact? Same for thermodynamics and biological evolution?

Well, think about it. For everyone, gravity is a real thing. The folks on the ISS know about it, but they aren't experiencing much of it on board.

Theories of gravity don't bother anyone except the scientists. The reason that scientists have the theories is that they are trying to find out more details about gravity than the simple fact that it works.Theories are real theories, but they are not reality. If they were reality, they would be called laws, not theories.

Smiley

Well they're called laws.

And if they didn't "bother with theories" as you're saying you wouldn't be there, there wouldn't be internet, neither PC or anything like that...

The law of gravity is what people experience. It is real. It has to do with celestial mechnaics.

Gravity theory has to do with the reasons why gravity works the way it does. Some of it might have to do with certain unknown actions of gravity that are being predicted. These theories are not known to be true.

Gravity is real. The theories about gravity are not known to be real.

Smiley

Yeah, and it's not because our entire world technology works with those theories that have correct results until the 14th decimal that we can say they're true, absolutely not! xD

So for you there is no scientific reality. Only theories and phenomenon that's all.

Actually, it is the other way around. There are scientific laws that have been proven to be real, or that are so evident that all it takes is a statement about them. Three of thes rel scientific laws are:
1. Cause and effect;
2. Complex universe;
3. Universal entropy.

When these three laws are combined, they show that God exists. Theories can't do this with certainty, because theories have an element of uncertainty about them.

When theories become laws, they are called such. If they are called laws while they are still theories, it is because someone is trying to promote them. In essence, a religion is formed.

Smiley

And how are theories proven? How do they become laws?

"They become laws as long as they don't break religious dogma :-)  Otherwise, they are unproven theories." - BADecker, PhD (religious studies, entropy and other fancy words)

The greater complexity has more order within it.
...

Chaos can be quite complex.

Chaos Theory can be complex. There is no real chaos. Everything acts according to the laws of nature as cause and effect dictate. Chaos, like randomness, exist only in the minds of people who can't see (understand) the reason why.

Smiley

So now you are going to dismiss reality because it is conflicting with your ancient world view.

Notice the words "new theories." Theories are fun, intriguing things that might be great ideas, but are not known to be facts. People can invent theories all day long.

You mean like theory of gravity. LOL...

Merkel's WWII guilt caused all of this.
Maybe maybe not.  Maybe she was subtly influenced, overtly bribed, blackmailed or otherwise influenced by Saudi or middle eastern influences.

You know I think it might be WWII guilt because we saw similar policies of re-settlement of Jews and German Russians in exile.  They were taking them left and right, no matter what.  I personally know of many Russians who went to Germany on fake paperwork.  No word of German, no German ancestry.  They opened the gates to Jews similar to what they are doing now to Muslims.

Problem now is that they will have to integrate them into mainstream society.  And we all know how flexible Muslims and Christians are.  The rate of this influx will be a problem.
2497  Other / Politics & Society / Re: In what conditions would you convert to Islam? on: February 08, 2016, 03:25:25 PM
I was wondering, since it seems to be a hot topic: what would convince you to convert to islamism?
Would you do it or not? And if so: why? Maybe because you'd be afraid?
I've seen a lot of people convert by themselves because after studying they got convinced that it's the right religion.
Has anyone converted after reading/studying islamism?

I always wondered if a person, seeing how things are in the world, if the situation would arise, would choose Islam in order to live.
I'm curious about people's opinions regarding this.

If you believe in flying horses you should immediately convert to Islam or check yourself into a mental institution, or both.

But if you don't believe in flying horses, you can ignore this ideology all together.

Try humanism.

Fact: Religion is for stupid people (or makes people stupid)

images

I saw a good study explaining and proving that religious children were less forgiving and less generous than normal children.
Another proof of the useless aspect of religion.

You completely misunderstand.

Religious people often are religious because they recognize that they are mean and bad people. They understand that they need God's forgiveness.

This doesn't always make them into good people. But it makes them into saved people.

Unbelievers still die, even if they are nicer than Christians. If they die without God, they are lost... because their niceness isn't perfect. And God requires perfection.

Where does God get the perfection for religious people? If they believe in the salvation that Jesus provides, they are covered by Jesus' perfection.

Smiley

BADecker,

Stop babbling nonsense.  I told you to bring your God buddy online.  Ask him to post here (or elsewhere), or he does not exist.

Stop spreading your wishy washy fantasies.  Do you think people care what crazy people think?  What matters is the truth not some imaginary friends or creators who cannot speak or write.
2499  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Racism is a real thing (this thread is extremely racist) on: February 07, 2016, 06:07:10 PM
Yes I agree that racism is very difficult problem today in society.
It seems it's very hard to solve it.
I think people need education.
They need to learn how to respect other people, even people with different race, nationality, religion etc.
Most religion teach people to respect and love others and this is good way how to fight with racism.

Religion is what divides people.  Almost all wars up to date were religious wars.

Try humanism and atheism.
2500  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do Christians hate Atheists? on: February 07, 2016, 05:19:46 PM
Stating things that exist is not proof for God's existence. Get your head out of that bucket and look at the world the way it really is.

Stating scientific facts that prove God's existence, is definitely proof of God's existence.

Smiley

Dude, be reasonable. You haven't proved anything. Do so and not only I'll agree with you but I'll work along you. Until then try and be real.

That's what I have been trying to tell you. I am not trying to prove anything. Why do you want me to start proving something? It isn't my place.

My place is to show you the proof of science. Science proves God exists. Why do you keep on accusing me of proving or not proving something? I'm just the messenger.

Smiley

Ok then - bring out the math, physics, whatever science you want. Let's see it messenger man.

Well, that is what I have been doing over and over again. But just for you I will do it again, just for you. Besides, I need the practice typing.

1. Cause and effect.
2. Complex universe.
3. Universal entropy.

When you combine these three things, you find that God exists. There is no other way.

Smiley

So if I put all these three things in a bowl I'll get a special formula to see God? Or? Can I see God? Can I talk to Him? Can we measure Him in any way?

Or ask God to post on all forums all at once..:-)
