2501  Economy / Economics / Re: WTH? why a sudden drop by 10 cents? on: March 06, 2011, 05:48:58 AM
And the price is back up, someone has spotted the bargain and bought, bringing up the price. still a little lower than it's been trading at but thats nothing to worry about. It should creep up over the next few trades.

So this is the result of a single person executing a fairly large( by our standards) trade. This causeda few automated ( or panic) sells. It's a small market and is easily moved. Sadly I wasn't in a position to take advantage of this drop. Im much too risk averse to take advantage of such a big price move.
2502  Economy / Economics / Re: WTH? why a sudden drop by 10 cents? on: March 06, 2011, 04:51:19 AM
The truth is we need more speculators. They would add cnsiderable liquidity, and make the price much more stable.

As soon as the price starts to rise to much too quickly they would sell, bringing it down. If the price falls too quickly by too much they buy, bringing it up.

How come they must trade with each other? Why not make it so they have to earn 100 BTC per business using these forums or whatever?

They don't have to trade with each other, just that they can. To pass the company needs over 8btc by the end. They need to get most of this from users on this forum.

Working title, I just thought that the name was cool. It IS cool, but doesn't mean it's the most appropriate.

2508  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anonymous or distributed web technologies on: March 03, 2011, 02:42:21 AM
Tor is better for anonyminity. That is it's primary goal.

However by design Tor is slower as requests must travel through more nodes to provide this greater anonyminity. But it's meant to be low bandwidth.

i2p is also for anonyminity, but it's meant to run more regular services over. You can use i2p for torrents, email, whatever. And as long as your server has a decent connection (over 1mbps) others should be able to connect very quick.

It's less anonymous and a little more work to install, but has a better user experience.

The best example of statism often brough out is Sweden, much of this is however a myth.

The Sweden Myth
Sweden: Poorer Than You Think
Stagnating socialist Sweden

OK, a lot of the people there like doing things that way, fine for them. Heroin addicts really REALLY like Heroin, doesn't mean it's good for everyone, and pointing to them and saying "Look how much they love that stuff, they're so happy" is not a good reason to start using it.

I don't think he's his alter ego, his English is so much better than the barons, although that could be part of the ruse.

On a more serious note I just think he's someone with more....of a status quo mindset.
2511  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: March 02, 2011, 08:12:30 PM
The baron signed up to mtgox and used his service without mtgox providing any terms or conditions. And not just for a little but $45k.

mtgox has not "taken" the barons money, it's not like it's gone somewhere else. It's been frozen, and the account and account owner are being investigated by mtgox. mtgox has asked for something not just reasonable, but probably required by law in such situations, that is for copies of identification.

I don't think things are so bad in the U.S. that scammers are now able to sue the people who they failed to scam.
2512  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: March 02, 2011, 07:33:16 PM

He's only maintaining his status quo.

Status quo is wrong.
2513  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: March 02, 2011, 07:24:16 PM
So mtgox believes there was a "crime" has some untested proof and unilaterally freezes an account. mtgox as said earlier is not an unknown perona.

I don't know about others, but "businesses" that unilaterally conduct a trial, hold themselves as jury, and award themselves a verdict, does seem up and up.

But lets assume: MtGox is correct in everything, there was an exploit. Well, in that case, to bad the system should have been better. MtGox and others should eat the losses and fix it. Not try to provide self help. "Self Help" always leads to bad consequences.

Now, MtGox is trying to Identify people with passport scans, phone calls, etc...  Starting to sound like an IRL Bank.

I don't know about others, but if Mtgox was to be successful in this BitCoin business giving the whole anonymity of the system, he just lost alot of customers.

Try to protect other customers from losses by taking money from someone else is not fair, even with proof.

But that absolute last thing you would want to provide is "Proof".  Because if you can identify anonymous transactions to the person, this whole BitCoin experiment just "Failed".

Wow you're wrong.

Firstly mtgox is a private business, not god or the president. He isn't taking your rights. He's got a platform, if you use it then he's in charge. You are free not to use it of course.

Secondly the point of bitcoin is not it being anonymous (that's just a great side-effect if you're careful) but to be a p2p currency that is limited in supply.
2514  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ruby developers, paid work with a bitcoin comany![REOPENED] on: March 02, 2011, 07:17:30 PM
I forgot to mention that this will be for at least 2 months worth of work, and could possilby be for 4 months.
2515  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ruby developers, paid work with a bitcoin comany![REOPENED] on: March 02, 2011, 07:08:20 PM
I am an experienced Ruby (and Rails) developer. I may be interested, and I am willing to work hard, but I have to say up front: it's not very realistic to expect full-time work for 120 bitcoins per week. We all have to pay the bills. So I hope that's not what you are looking for.

Thats not really true, give it a couple of years and 120BTC will be enough to buy a small country somewhere important. Like maybe Belgium..... the Flemish part.

You need to have perspective man.
2516  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Baron] is a scammer on: March 02, 2011, 07:04:51 PM
Is there a such thing as tainted bitcoins?
I sure hope not. Having dealt with Visa/PP/etc chargebacks that stiff merchants, one of the key benefits of bitcoin in my opinion is their 1-way nature with no chargebacks. "Tainted" bitcoins just make more victims from an already bad situation.

I suppose not, but since bitcoins all have a history, if you seem to always end up with coins that have been stolen then people will become suspicious. And it may get to the point where others wouldn't want to have anything to do with you.

You would become a pariah.
2517  Other / Off-topic / Re: Inside Job (movie) on: March 02, 2011, 06:37:55 PM
What Nefario was getting in short is that this movie is a blatant miss direction of blame from the actual cause of the problem to merely the symptoms of the problem and to top it off it provides a wrong or non solution. Text book definition of a controlled opposition if you ask me.  Roll Eyes

What he said.
2518  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anonymous or distributed web technologies on: March 02, 2011, 06:28:49 PM
i2p is a lot faster, especially if you have a decent server for it.

I think it is time for the forum moderators to shut down this thread.

As far as I see it has gone as far as it needs, short of the final decision being made by mtgox and his final evidence and reasons why  there is nothing more that can be added.

As far as evidence goes, all barron needs to do is send mtgox his scans, nothing more.

All this useless back and forth with barron is nothing but a time waste and I think a little damaging.

It's not our place to demand id from barron, but mtgox's.
Moderators?Huh
