1821  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE fraud warning on: June 06, 2011, 01:27:59 PM
I've also added a locking "feature" so that I can lock accounts, it's actually not working properly right now, it should return an "your account is locked" error, doesn't do this, just stops the account working haha.

So I've locked all involved accounts, including their bitcoin(All 1.1btc of it).

This is a new glbse policy, all scammers (and those taking part in scamming like activities) will have their account locked, and their btc frozen. IF it turns out that they have scammed someone on the exchange we'll try to return the bitcoin to the rightfull owners (try, if possible) .

If we catch scammers in the act, or setting up their act, we will freeze the accounts, and if unable to prove otherwise we confiscate the scammers bitcoin.

Scammers are not welcome here.

Someones complained about this, but I can't see anything wrong with it, it's in the marketplace and not showing any ...skin.

I vote for Iceland!

This is actually a good idea.  Iceland is a very short flight from North America and a really cool place to visit.  Plus, they're probably in the mood to talk about alternatives to traditional banking. Wink

Not exactly the easiest place to get to though, first fly to London(or your favourite transport hub) and then on, better just to go to london.

FuckPayPal

is pretty funny however its fake. I think you might need to at least charge a listing fee.

We did charge a listing fee, 0.5btc per listing, so as I've said someones out 2btc unless they show up otherwise.
1825  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Wiki is now in Chinese, pretty high standard. on: June 06, 2011, 06:18:06 AM
If you set up an exchange using a bank account (which is the best way, postal service is impossible as it is guaranteed to be stolen), once bitcoin is made illegal you will be arrested. It's much more dangerous here.
1826  Bitcoin / Project Development / GLBSE fraud warning on: June 06, 2011, 06:01:30 AM
I've noticed that several new assets have been put up onto the exchange.

They are mostly copies of ubitex's (UBX) contract with the gpg signature removed (but almost everything else intact).

New contracts can be seen here. http://dev.glbse.com/cgi-bin/list

There has been actuall trading of all the above "fake" shares over the last day or so, although I suspect that this is someone trading between themselves (hoping to give themselves a trading history?).

None of these shares are legit(could be someone just playing around with them, probably not), although the poor sod who's issued these has paid 2btc in total to issue them.

Do not buy these shares! They are worth nothing.

Will the issuer/owner of these come forward(either on this thread or in pm) or I'll be removing them and you'll lose your bitcoin.

On another note, I might have to start adding charges to prevent fake trading like this.

1827  Other / Off-topic / Re: the last words in the movie "Matrix" on: June 06, 2011, 05:51:56 AM
I was a big fan of the matrix when it was released, I was totally blown away (didn't expect any of what the film showed). Thought it was the coolest thing ever.

And now looking back it is surprising how far the metaphor stretches, and how much it applies to US.

This movie is about us (although with less actually hand to hand combat, or combat at all).

Government doesn't know about it as it's still very early days.

The response will be to block most bitcoin related websites I'm sure.

AFAIK no shops are using, just some over the net trade, but it's just a matter of time.

Anyone considering buying these please use clearcloin as escrow, if this user will not accept then don't do business with them.

1832  Bitcoin / Project Development / Wiki is now in Chinese, pretty high standard. on: June 06, 2011, 05:07:39 AM
Hi all, we've now had the wiki translated to Chinese.

I think the standard of the translations is pretty good, and we still have a remaining 14btc for this, although I'm not sure what we will use it for.

With the rising value of bitcoin and it's growing use in China(people are actually using it, but they're a little behind), this is a great thing.

Check it out.

sharkroman

Give me a bitcoin address to pay you for translating the Secure your wallet wiki page.

Here are the payments I have made:

Trade   entropy   3
4-5 pages   simapple   5
3 pages   jyli    3
introduction   Infinity    3
securing your wallet   sharkroman   2

All payments have been made (except sharkroman, because no bitcoin address to pay)

Sorry for being late to pay, I am always late, but I always pay.

Paid 14btc total, to pay another 2btc, remaining 14btc for translation.

Last trade for bitcoin on mtgox.com $18.15USD at time of payment.

1835  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ubitex: In-person Bitcoin exchange [EARLY BETA!] [STOCK AVAILABLE] on: June 04, 2011, 11:29:59 AM
Yes I'll be adding functionality to remove assets that have been issued, but only those that are in the issuers account. This will be around Monday/Tuesday.
1836  Economy / Economics / Re: Deflation and Bitcoin, the last word on this forum on: June 04, 2011, 11:02:29 AM
This is an argument between these two theories of economics, not bitcoin. At best bitcoin could be thought of as a modern experiment in deflation.
+1. btw. I am interested to see any interview you give to reporters (employed or unemployed).

I don't think it went well ( I could be wrong ).

But again I want to emphasise that the issue is between two schools of economics, and it's not something that's really should involve bitcoin.

Simply because you must choose either inflationary or deflationary as it is impossible to have a currency grow at the same rate as the economy (how do you know exactly how much an economy is growing without overseeing everything?).

If you want an inflationary bitcoin that has no limits nothing is stopping you, the source is there, and the set limit is (AFAIK) only a small part of the code, please go ahead and have your inflationary bitcoin.

All other currencies are inflationary, so whats wrong with having one that isn't?

But again I say, this is between the differing schools of economics, not something the bitcoin project should be bothered with.

1837  Economy / Marketplace / Re: SkepsiDyne Integrated Node - A Bitcoin Mining Company on: June 03, 2011, 02:19:21 PM
Nefario: The intention on my end was not to game the market, it was to give the initial investors a reward for their early trust.  I say that I got gamed because some people bought into the shares once the announcement that the value of the shares would be increased for the sole purpose of undercutting the IPO once it was repriced.  I agree that dividend payment will renew interest in the shares, and that is currently the goal to reach after bringing the total capacity of the company online.

vess: I can not take the IPO down, it will be the main source of income until many more rigs are brought on line.  The purpose of the shares sold was to raise funds, not create a market for shareholders.  The intention was that shareholders were in it for the long run, making an investment, not that they would see immediate liquidity in their stocks.  Once dividends begin being paid, which will occur when everything is settled in, the IPO will begin selling again.

As far as the new rigs arriving: they are currently scheduled to arrive on Monday.  This weekend I will be unlocking all of the GPU's I currently have so that they can be overclocked higher once the rigs arrive.

What I meant was that you couldn't tell the market what to do, essentially when a market is free you can't beat it, so try to harness it.

Also you really will have to pay dividends before selling more shares, simply no one will buy anymore until you do. That's the market. It's not going to wait because it doesn't have to. And it shouldn't, you should already be mining, and getting ready to pay dividends in a day or two. Look at DISHWARA, he's already paid his first dividend and is on track for another, and he's in India, your in the states, you should be paying dividends already.

This isn't China, shareholders are king here.
1838  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: A Bitcoin Mining Company - SkepsiDyne Integrated Node on: June 03, 2011, 02:14:26 PM
So... any of us who bought shares after the price raise got screwed.

Well that's the market, it goes up and down, and no one put a gun to your head to buy(did they?).
1839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Get this deflation post onto the front page of HackerNews and reddit on: June 03, 2011, 12:44:24 PM
I recommend against flooding HN with bitcoin posts. The people there all already know bitcoin by now, and it annoys them to see the site flooded with the same kind of topics all the time.

The members that want to follow all the details of bitcoin news most likely already signed up here...

I suppose. Meh.
