My understanding after reading your post is that a plane ticket was bought using US Dollars.
BTC Economist, eventually most things must be converted to local currency at some point. The fact is I paid with bitcoin. You gave someone bitcoins, but the ticket wasn't purchased with those bitcoins. The conversion to local currency has to come after the purchase in order for the honor ( First airline ticket bought with bitcoin) to be relevant, imho. That's going to take a LONG time. Also, no I did not make it ok, didn't make it at all. Well I did, as far as the airport in Seattle. More to come later. |

Hey, still getting the same error? The web client is back up and running. Also, if you're on Ubuntu 11.04 and using the command line client it won't work, there is a bug in libcurl that sets the ssl timeout to too short a value. |

So isn't there any danger running afoul with the SEC for selling 'securities' tied to your company when going public through GBSE without registering with them?

Hello, sorry I'm late to the conversation, was in transit,then a box, then transit again for quite a few days so no internet access. Smalleyster, the documentation for listing on GLBSE has been updated with some (terrible) videos to get started (noagendamarket, this is the general idea of what I'm looking for in the videos). There have been some major changes in my circumstances and plans that I will be elaborating on over the next few days. These changes are going to result in changes to for GLBSE for the better, that is GLBSE is going to start improving across the board from reliability, to usability right away. Yes the site had been down, as I said I was in transit since Sunday and bitcoind had died. Since I'm paranoid no one else but me has access to the servers (ColdHardMetal has the passwords but is very trustworthy and is not an admin), so when things go down I'm the only one who can do anything. And in this case I was unable to do anything as I had no internet access for the past few days. I'm sorry for the disruption, and it's something that I'm going to be working my ass off to prevent again. With regards the self signed cert, it is actually more secure, you may have heard that comodo ( a certificate authority) had managed to have it's signing keys stolen, and a number of fraudulent certificates for various sites (I believe GMail was one) were issued using these stolen keys. The hackers were then able to decrypt ssl traffic by Man in the Middling (using the newly issued fake cert) the websites. The danger of self signed certs is that if the server is broken into(hacked) then the hacker may be able to replace the legit cert with their own and from then on sniff the traffic. However with GLBSE, there is only one reason you would try to break into the server, and that is to steal the bitcoin that is stored there. Also all client accounts are anonymous (unless you have publicly told people what your public ID is). Nefario. |

It's a networking issue, a router has died. Hosting provider is working on it.

I tried to access my account today by giving password, it gave me a lengthy error that some procedure are missing(i didnt notice it fully), then i pressed "GO" & it logged me in. But there is no accounts. So, i added my accounts with id & key & checked asset DISHWARA.
In twitter it is displayed as sell:1@10000000:DISHWARA:1310782590 & sell:1@45000000:DISHWARA:1310782256.
But when i checked in asset DISHWARA its not there.
Is site working wrongly or some one hacked?

I really wonder however, how you manage to have THIS many hardware failures?!
Easy: 1) He's got a lot of hardware, and plenty of hardware is shipped faulty. So it's numbers 2) He's stressing the hardware, mining really puts hardware through it's paces, and quite a bit doesn't make it. |

I'm in Nanchang, not a big or coastal city. Shanghai should be better in that there are more services tailored to non-Chinese but apart from that it's more or less the same.
Currently it is illegal to accept virtual currency for real world goods in China, only for virtual goods also sold by the currencies issuer.
My main reasons are:
Banking- it's really hard to move money out of China, doubly so if you're not Chinese
Transport- Might just be my city, but it takes me more than a day to get to somewhere I can catch an international flight.
Connectivity- Getting worse with more VPN services being blocked or shut down, and being slow in general.

No, I'm planning to stay with a bitcoiner, said bitcoiner has convinced the guy who's running the hackerspace to accept bitcoin. There are a few people there who are into bitcoin so were turning it into something of a bitcoin hacker hub. |

I'm coming to Seattle, China (especially where I am) is not a place to try to start or run a world changing business. I'm hooking up with bitoption and a few other cool guys there for a couple of months, it's going to be awsome. However there was one little problem, I don't have a lot of cash(and no credit card), I've got bitcoin, not cash. So I set out on my epic journey to find a way to pay for the ticket with bitcoin. I wouldn't really be able to use MtGox and have them do an international transfer (do they even do that?). My search led me to bitcoin-otc where I found a trader who was willing, for a small fee to act as a proxy and buy the tickets for me(thank you jjjrmy). The price I paid for a roundtrip? 99btc And there you have it, the first airline ticket bought (via proxy) for bitcoin.
