2543  Economy / Lending / Re: [LENDING] Get Loans WITHOUT Collateral- Loans up to $50. No reputation needed! on: April 30, 2014, 10:58:01 AM
This is because women (not the ones pretending to be girls) scam less -- this is a fact, you can name tons of scammers here that are men but hardly any real girls scam.

Alessia Tatti's (Alberto Armandi's wife) or Homeless Jackie's (a.k.a. "wong RAP") victims would disagree with you.
2544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of Major Bitcoin Heists, Thefts, Hacks, Scams, and Losses on: April 29, 2014, 06:44:03 PM
You forgot about Bitcoin to Cash:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=344143

100 BTC @ 800 USD/BTC =~~ $80k.

I think Labcoin could also be added (another scam by Alberto Armandi), but I haven't followed it closely, so have no idea how much money is missing (7500 BTC?).

Also, ActiveMining (10k BTC?) and maybe COG could be on the list.
2545  Other / Meta / Re: Want to know how to reach the bitcointalk dev??? on: April 29, 2014, 02:52:12 PM
PM theymos (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=35) if you need an admin, but be forewarned that we don't usually release IP information for scamming etc unless there's grounds to do so. Also, it is likely that the user used a VPN anyway.

i just need an ip...

but i understand that bitcointalk wont get involve...to stay neutral

to bad those people get away with it...i just lost 1.4btc

he will be back for more till we get him.... Sad

Current policy is to release IPs only in response to a court order or a reasonable police request. (I don't guarantee that I won't release IPs in other cases, though.)
2546  Other / Meta / Re: Taking over a thread on: April 26, 2014, 10:11:13 PM
I don't think theymos will let you take over a thread without the OP's consent.
2547  Other / Meta / Re: Possible spambots "hey, i am fresh here" on: April 25, 2014, 09:46:44 PM
Here's another one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=188125

A lot of their posts are copy/pastes and they post the exact same replies in multiple threads.

Thanks, banned.
2548  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Instawallet claim process on: April 25, 2014, 10:57:37 AM
Of course I only have the word of another mod, and I didn't ask if, say, a 'global moderator' does.  (I figure they probably do.)  Themos does not run an open-source service here so the logical posture is to be defensive and assume the worst.  In this case that PM's are not private (and the unending stream of hacks that this forum has experienced make that even more the case.)

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=107085.msg1173977#msg1173977

Before the Trust system was started, theymos used to go through some peoples' PMs to ensure they deserved to be scammer-tagged, nowadays (AFAIK) he only goes through peoples' PMs if he needs to do so for administration purposes, he informed me once of going though 20 most recent subjects of PMs sent to me, to fix a problem with PMs not loading after grue and me informed him of this issue.

Of course if you have some sensitive info to communicate, you should GPG-encrypt your message, or communicate off-site. The note "Note: PM privacy is not guaranteed. Encrypt sensitive messages." was added two years ago: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=104261.msg1147985#msg1147985

Global moderators can only see those PMs that the recipient reports by clicking "Report To Admin".
2549  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: April 24, 2014, 08:23:53 PM
We had a giveway but people don't "spam them with their addresses or tx ids, or other insubstantial posts." I asking him to:  Just send me a private message, that includes your email. After this, pleasepost your opinion from the coin in this forum.

People did spam with insubstantial posts because you (even if indirectly) incentivized them to do so.

Just a few examples:

This Coin will obviously be a Great Success B-)

Good luck, Guys!

Intresting coin. I'll try to mine at launch

Good idea guys, I'm excited, keep up the good work... Can't wait for launch Smiley)

:)nice will mine some

Looks interesting  Smiley

Looks interesting

i love it....

I will be trading with this coin.  Wink

Not to mention that a third (~80) of the posts in that thread were "thank yous", most of them made by you.

I usually ban people who start such threads (i.e. threads were OP incentivizes people to post insubstantial posts), but in your case you offered to pay people to post their opinions about the coin, which in itself and of itself doesn't necessarily have to translate into insubstantial posts and low-value content, but altcoin board being altcoin board, this is what occurred.
2550  Other / Meta / Re: Searching for a post on: April 24, 2014, 08:02:00 PM
Are you getting no results at all, or a lot of results that you're not interested in?

Try here: https://www.google.com/cse?cx=016660200577587308545%3Aesf40ml9aag&ie=UTF-8&q=&sa=Google+search#gsc.tab=0

or using the regular forum search, but try to be more specific if you're getting too many results (complete the "by user:", "Options", "Message age:" fields, and choose the boards where you think it's most likely the post was made), or less specific if you're getting no results at all.

You can also try using search operators, quotation marks generally speed up the search for me.

It's also possible that it the poster deleted his own post.
2551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: April 24, 2014, 11:54:21 AM
what about banning ipo?

they are like giveaway but to only one person

They are allowed, so long as people don't spam them with their addresses or tx ids, or other insubstantial posts.
2552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: April 24, 2014, 11:25:04 AM
I have question can i post a tread with working faucets that pays.

Will this tread be deleted or can i create one?

You can create one, just remember that:

Specifically, you are not allowed to give people any incentive to post insubstantial posts in your threads. You can't offer to pay people who post their addresses, usernames, etc. You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread, but you can't give people any bonus for replying to your thread.

and don't start one just to place your referral links.

After payment please drop me a pm with the transaction I.D after which arrangments will be made for the advertisment listings.

Kind Regards,

Theymos.

PM sent from this id: THEYM0S
its scam.
what should i do?

I think I banned him yesterday, there's very little you can do at this point, and it looks like you weren't the only person to get scammed (his other accounts were also banned, but only those that were reported to me by PM).

I would have thought people would at least glance at the rank and activity of the impersonator...
2554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forum moderation policy on: April 18, 2014, 09:37:46 AM
+1 is a place holder so I can go back edit the post and have it higher up in the thread can I not do this any more? Huh

No, you can't.
2555  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Obligatory I'm not dead or running post on: April 16, 2014, 12:36:32 PM
Just removed my negative feedback that I left you and good to know that you're alive, but WTF, were you in a coma or something?
2556  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 0.01 BTC Giveaway on: April 14, 2014, 05:21:51 PM
OP has last logged in 7 days ago, and this topic is inundated with replies from people who get paid to post so I'll lock this topic. OP can PM when (if) he gets back, but I suspect he owns his share of accounts that posted here, so I'm not sure I'll want to unlock it.
2557  Other / Meta / Re: Why I am turning my back on bitcointalk. It just doesnt work anymore. on: April 14, 2014, 04:55:22 PM
+8000
you forgot scammers can scam, run free, come back and repeat. I understand the forum isnt responsible to track them down, nor should they... but jesus christ, ban them or something... do something.....  You can't just wipe hands clean because you have a disclaimer.
i used to enjoy coming here and reading some of the stuff back in 2012 and early-mid 2013.
but the fact the scammers are allowed to do what ever the hell they wont without being banned is beyond any logic and makes me sick.
fark half the time its staff members who are running the scams.

Then you should remember that even when it was easier to keep track of all the scams, unless they were repeatedly disrupting discussion (MNW), scammers' accounts were only scammer tagged, because there is always a slim possibility for the scammer to repent and make some (sometimes successful) efforts to repay their victims (e.g. terrytibbs). With their accounts banned, it's even less likely the victims will get anything back. TF could have been banned as soon as he announced he was "hacked" but how would that help his victims? At least some of them got 20-30% their BTC back.

Even if we had a rule that scamming ends up in a ban... we would never be able to catch up with even a quarter of the scams. Someone would have to hire a dozen people to work full time, those people would need read access to peoples' PMs, there should be a rule against GPG or otherwise encrypting of PMs (to see what you're up to), and a rule against off-site communication, but even then not all scams could be prevented (especially long cons). The solution is not restricting freedom in the name of security, but education. I know some people are suffering from an overabundance of bitcoins in their wallets, so they're eager to part with them, but then they shouldn't cry if they failed to do their due diligence. Trust no one, assume everyone's out to scam you, and you'll be much less likely to get scammed.

It seems like every forum rule change is to enable more people to scam.. i.e no scammer tag, trust system which allowed mods, and people on default trust list to scam, no newbie restrictions....

Which mods have turned out to be scammers? I can only recall one, maybe two, mods that have scammed someone, and neither of them had their scamming facilitated due to how the Trust system and DefaultTrust works.
I'll agree that relaxing the newbie restrictions for the 2nd time might not have been the best decision, though I can see how it could have served as a deterrent both to spammers and valuable contributors.

and the disclaimer under advertisements prooves the forum had a think about how the ads there running is assisting in helping people to get scammed.. but they thought... fuck it, we make money off this!!! lets just put a disclaimer in!

Again, if you assume everyone's out to scam you, you won't send them any BTC unless you're really certain of their trustworthiness.

Quote
They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.
[emphasis mine]

I agree with you on pretty much all points, this place has gone downhill a lot since 2011/2012.  Changes need to be made, but theymos either ignores suggestions/changes or just doesn't want to implement them.  The old hands off attitude used to work a lot better when there weren't tons of people around, but times have changed.

Do you mean in regards to newbie spam, or in regards to scamming?
The former would be easier to deal with (e.g increase waiting time between posts to half an hour for newbies and jr. members, or autoban or auto-tempban accounts if they have more than a dozen posts deleted in a 24 hour period), but I don't really see a solution to the latter without us having much more work, getting more mods, and severely limiting other users' freedom.
2558  Other / Meta / Re: A Mod was bored i guess. on: April 13, 2014, 10:29:30 PM
Insubstantial posts like your "lol" add zero value to the discussion, and are frequently deleted.
2559  Other / Meta / Re: Why donation gathering is not allowed? on: April 13, 2014, 05:08:45 PM
I almost finished masters in finance and banking management, have 3 years working expirience (2 in controlling, 1 year in accounting), i can do excel stuf for a full day Smiley. I have some little trading expirience, but i mainly lost everything.

Then start a thread in Services, if you have any qualifications maybe someone will hire you.

Also, stop begging in the Slovenian and Croatian threads.
2560  Other / Meta / Re: Top Posters [UPDATED CHARTS] on: April 13, 2014, 01:24:43 PM
in the future it is  Grin , and how is it only 0.1? For example if Phinnaeus Gage went for Ritz's deal then 19,562 x 0.011 = 215.182BTC, 19,562 / 3000 = 6.5 months

★★★ WE WILL PAY FOR YOUR SIGNATURE. HIGHEST PAYMENT ON THE BOARD ★★★
 New rates for April
Hero members, we will pay you:
0.0011 BTC  Per constructive post. 50 posts min per month.
NOT spam. NO rubbish posts (we do check)  max 3000 posts per month.

So more like 3000*0.0011 = 3.3 BTC per month, a magnitude less than your calculations suggest.

And Phinn's account is almost 3 years old, whereas Ritz's been offering this "deal" for only a few weeks, you have no guarantee he will be able to continue paying so much.
