The deadlines are also different around the world. There's usually no statue of limitations of serious crimes like murder either. Obviously breaking a forum rule isn't as serious as murder but as others have said, where do you draw the line? We recently started unbanning people for cases of plagiarism if it wasn't systematic and they're judged to be a net positive to the forum so it's usually not a death sentence now anyway.

What percentage of people banned for plagiarism were eventually unbanned?

BTW, actually some countries do have a statute of limitations for murder (intentional homicide), e.g. Poland and France, or had until recently, e.g. Norway.
1622  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Germany banned by BitPay? on: September 06, 2019, 02:46:33 AM
It's not only because the regulations are unclear, it's also because greedy idiots are playing their games. We have a new wannabe crybaby company in Germany and they are trying to shut down competitors Bitcoin ATMs by sending their lawyers to the regulators (BaFin) to shut them down and place their own ones in the future instead.

Are the new regulations coming in 2020 going to affect the operation of Bitcoin ATMs in Germany?

You guys might want to contact all cryptocurrency-related or friendly news/blogs channels, and let the story out to ostracize such nasty people. Are they bankrolling the ATMs and the bank on their own, or do they have investors?

Signature disabled in WO, before Two new no-signature boards, since 2017, really?

Yes, seems like it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1993570.msg19851325#msg19851325

(unless theymos waited several months before instituting this change, I don't know, I don't visit the WO thread very often)

1625  Local / Polski / Re: Czemu nie nagradzamy sie Meritami? on: September 05, 2019, 11:35:57 PM

1626  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: September 05, 2019, 11:21:16 PM
I wouldn't worry about them scamming, just make sure your sessions don't expire.

This isn't the first time they take their time to respond, I think they're simply undermanned, and given the nature of their service, hiring new, reliable customer service staff probably isn't easy.
1627  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Infographic] Three points to get merit (based on my experience) on: September 05, 2019, 10:55:45 PM
Posts are shitposts only if they have bonds with financial benefits. In WO, posters don't have post quota, because of signature disabled in WO. So, I don't call any posts in WO are shitposts. They are funny, yes. They are non-sense, yes. But none of them are shitposts. And merited posts in WO are good examples of how users can use their smerits.

TIL. Only just now have I noticed signatures are actually disabled in that thread. Found theymos' post from mid-2017 announcing this rule.

(I just did, Bitcoin Discussion already has a thread about the newest release pinned)
1629  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Infographic] Three points to get merit (based on my experience) on: September 05, 2019, 10:40:22 AM
If you want merit the biggest thing is what section you post in.

That's pretty much it. No need to research any further. There's little merit to be had in local boards, none in any alt section.

Meta is the merit fountain, particularly any stats about the forum itself. I've no idea why that is but it's been very consistent since merit was implemented. My best guess is it's populated by people who are interested in and care about the forum and they tend to be established members. I think it's a bit silly myself.

True. A Newbie or an average forum member isn't going to be terribly interested in the inner workings of the forum and the meta topics, so most people there are moderators and Legendary members, IOW, users who are more likely to be merit sources, in addition to having left over sMerits of their own.

Some people manage to get hundreds of merit points in the Dev & Tech section, but you have to visit that section often and be well-informed, not really something common of an average Newbie.

And then there's the Wall Observer thread, in no other place have I seen so many shitposts so heavily merited. Some are funny though Wink
1630  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Germany banned by BitPay? on: September 05, 2019, 06:59:46 AM
Did they also make it illegal to operate a crypto-to-fiat currency service before the new rules are in place? I don't get why else BitPay would cut Germany off so early.
1631  Economy / Exchanges / Re: URGENT: MTGOX creditors need assistance - Looking for Russian Speakers on: September 04, 2019, 10:45:54 PM
Is this in any way related to Vasiliev's arrest in Italy? Because aside from Vinnik, he's the only one to have been arrested, no? Others are living happily on money stolen from gox & others/btc-e/wex.

Either way, I'd be extremely suspicious if someone acts as if there's an urgency, that's often the hallmark of a scammer.
1632  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why does BlockFi offer small lenders a high yield? on: September 04, 2019, 10:37:43 PM
Do you have to go through KYC to lend them money? Even then, I think it should be possible to bypass the low limits by asking the help of family members...
1633  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Can Bitfinex still be trusted? on: September 04, 2019, 10:03:33 PM
Hi Everyone!

I just published a review of Bitfinex here: https://blog.shrimpy.io/blog/bitfinex-exchange-review

I would love to hear what you think. Can Bitfinex still be trusted? It has a long history of questionable decisions, hacks, and mystery.

IIRC, Bitcoinica wasn't hacked twice, but thrice Smiley

The founder's involvement as a passthrough for Pirateat40/Trendon Shaver's ponzi scheme also shouldn't have been left umentioned: https://archive.is/I8WzL#selection-3491.0-3491.51

And afaik the owners admitted to trading on their own exchange, you can search google for the recordings.
1634  Other / Meta / Re: Reporting Posts - Max 2 Years After Posting? on: September 04, 2019, 09:22:36 PM
Agree with the OP.
When you are to sue someone, there's a deadline for you. After that time you won't be eligible to sue that person.
This may be irrelevant with reporting the posts in the forum in your opinion. But I don't think there is any difference between them. Both are breaking the rules. In United States, in the case of injuries, the deadline is only 3 years. I don't think breaking a rule here in the forum is worse than that. If a contract is breached, you have six years to sue the person even if you have all documents to prove that.

The forum is not a court of law. There is no deadline after which a reported post won't be acted upon because it doesn't cost much for a moderator to look over it. And there are very good reasons why plagiarizers are dealt harshly with no matter how much time has passed.
1635  Other / Meta / Re: Why my posts were deleted? on: September 03, 2019, 03:56:08 PM
Maybe they have info that report badge is coming or they will get some special reward for reporting old bumps from 2017. I have nothing against reports that make sense, but something like this is completely meaningless, and does not help the forum in any way. I believe neither mods are happy because they need to delete hundreds of posts.

Bumps aren't a huge deal, but they make a browsing a thread take more time, so they're deleted if reported. But I'll admit I think dealing with reports of bumps in very old and inactive threads is a waste of time.

Tu masz strony z kalkulatorami:

1638  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is bitcointalk lending service legal? on: September 02, 2019, 09:14:24 PM
They are individuals and the forum administration is not responsible for these people and whether they're filling their taxes or not.

So, I can sell illegal drugs too, the the forum administration is not responsible for anything?

As already mentioned, generally speaking, if it's legal in the country of both the buyer and the seller, you're good to go. But don't take this rule too literally, for example, due to how this forum operates, it's affected by SESTA/FOSTA, so in-person sexual services are disallowed even if both parties reside/agree on/carry out the transaction in one of the numerous countries worldwide where it is legal. Selling hacked or otherwise fraudulently obtained accounts is also against the forum rules, even if by some chance you would find yourself and the other party living in some country where that might be legal.

such as arms dealing

Legal in most of the world, even if subject to numerous restrictions, there is no blanket ban on that here.

There are a lot of lending services on bitcointalk. All of them are asking for ridiculous interests, like 20% per month or so... Are they paying taxes for that, are they individuals or companies?  Do they have licenses to do such kind of business. Or that is also related o so called financial freedom?

You can ask them if you want to. If they're making serious money (which I doubt), they can't really avoid taxes in much of the world, either because there'll be a paper trail when they buy real estate or cars, or due to VAT, sales tax and other consumption taxes.

If I am not mistaken, the infamous Silk Road was once posted here.

Discussions about DNMs have always been allowed, afaik only linking isn't if theymos hasn't changed his stance on that.

Hi! Newbie here, anyone can explain me the meaning of NSFW content.tnx and god bless us all.

Not Safe For Work: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_safe_for_work

It might be subjective, but it seems to be working out, even though the forum has users coming from all over the world, with different perceptions of what's SFW and what isn't.

Czyli ceny z początku 2011 w przypadku BTC i ceny z początku ICO w przypadku ETH, niezła promocja Smiley

Jestem ciekaw ilu osobom udało się wypłacić i czy Bitmax będzie próbował ich ścigać, bo z tego co widzę jest wymóg KYC do wypłat, więc mają ich dane jak nie kupili od kogoś konta.
