2581  Other / New forum software / Re: UNIX-like post permissions (post locking and wiki posts) on: March 31, 2014, 05:41:46 PM
1) Post locking (not to be confused with thread locking): When a moderator needs to remove something from a post and wants to make sure that the user cannot re-add it, it would be useful for a moderator to remove the edit permission for that post from the posting user. If this action was done by someone high up, they may not want lower mods to overrule them, so it would also be useful to remove the edit permission from lower-level moderators.

I think the wiki concept was mentioned in the requirements doc.

I'll also add that it would be useful if moderators could add some notes to users' profiles that would be visible only to other moderators, as well see as a list of all or recent mod actions done against the user (more detailed than the modlog), this would make it easier to track habitual offenders.

I think your account was banned for 14 days, wait it out.
2583  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Obligatory I'm not dead or running post on: March 31, 2014, 08:29:43 AM
So, theymos appointed John as the mod and asked John to hold 1000 BTC when theymos only know his email and his bitcointalk account username?

He already had a good reputation back then, and was considered trustworthy enough by theymos to be entrusted with 1000 BTC, which at last years exchange rates was worth ~20-30x less than now.

TimeIsBitcoin, what's your goal? Collect a triple-quadruple digit amount of BTC, and abscond with it? Wink

I don't have any special way of contacting him. I don't know anything about his current status.

No Bitcoin BTCatsignal?  Cheesy How did you request he send the forums funds back before? Just PM or email?

Email.
2587  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Obligatory I'm not dead or running post on: March 30, 2014, 09:52:57 AM
Did he ever set-up a dead man switch or something similar?

He said he did:

Good to know, thanks!

The risk with John K is probably that he doesn't have an institution around him that can survive his passing. If he were to have a heart attack today and die (not wishing it on him!), is there a substantial chance that all the funds in his btc escrow account would remain there, possibly forever locked away? Does he have a contingency plan?

Hey,

I do have a dead-man's switch in place as all the addresses I use are cold wallets printed and stored physically in my safe. I regularly back my escrow list of transactions up to two off-site locations, and in the case of me and my family's incapacitation my family lawyer is authorized to release the funds accordingly with the list.

However, I still make it a point to not keep too much of escrow funds at once - I try to move through escrows as fast as possible to not have too much risk that I cannot cover using my own BTC funds at once. That's why escrows that might take longer (say, 2-3 weeks +) is charged a higher fee here.  I don't hold more than 5k BTC in escrow at the moment, barring long term storage like the forum's funds (that I started to hold part of since I was a moderator).

Would be nice if all IPO's were banned, i've seen IPO scam after scam. Bitcointalk users have been scammed for 1000's of dollars on this forum and I've seen 0 mods or admins react, this great forum is, unfortunately,  also a playground for scammers.

1. Millions, not thousands.

2. Caveat emptor et venditor. When in doubt, don't part with your BTC.
2589  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinfloor UK on: March 27, 2014, 07:13:50 PM
Isn't Coinfloor the biz that Nefario is involved in?

Yes. Note how they conveniently hid him under "The Team" label.

OK, dopiszę coś do nich.

I can switch to suggesting the proper forum, but sometimes the post is so off that I honestly don't know where it belongs!

In that case I think you could post "does not belong in xyz" where <xyz> is the name of the board where it shouldn't be, and it should be OK.

Bonus points if you can find out where it fits better Wink

Cryptorush got hacked twice and is out of 950 BTC.
2594  Other / Meta / Reports accuracy; split from: ckolivas for Moderator on: March 26, 2014, 09:43:08 PM
Two possibilities:

1.

This isn't directed at you, just a general PSA, when reporting miscategorized posts don't just say wrong forum as the reason if you can help it, because if it gets moved, but the report is still pending (which can happen), its a crap shoot whether it will be marked as bad or not.

I report in a "Should be in "Insert subforum here" ". Is that fine or do I have to do it in another way? Also, at OP, if you really hate altcoins, just keep reporting them if they get out of the designated subforums.

It's fine because if one us visits the reported topic and sees it's in the right section (maybe moved by OP, maybe by another mod), we can mark the report as "Handled", otherwise we might mark it as a "Bad report" if the report comment says "wrong section" or something like that, and it was already moved to the right section (we may think the reporter erroneously reported the post).

Holliday, looking at past reports (only from the last two weeks) I can see you typing in "wrong forum" in the report comments so maybe that was why you saw your percentage going down? Though it must have happened two or more weeks ago because looking at the five reports from the last two weeks, all were marked as correct. Dogie, your reports look OK, but again I can only check two weeks back.

or

2.
Your percentage might go down due to other report(s) that were being taken care of at the same time and that turned out to be inaccurate.

Goat's posts are disappearing.. by whom?

Probably deleted by himself because his user ID does not appear in the modlog (Ctrl + F "44233" without quotation marks). All deleted posts are still visible on bitcointa.lk though (this thread is 6 pages longer).

2596  Local / Polski / Re: Gdzie Kupic bitcoin w Polsce? on: March 25, 2014, 04:03:40 PM

W sp. z o.o. zarzad i prezes tez moze w wielu sytuacjach odpowiadac wlasnym majatkiem, gorzej ze sciagalnoscia dlugow (vide Gox).

Bitmarket.pl albo pln.bitcurex.com

2599  Other / Meta / Re: Can not show 10 pages of a large discussion in a row? on: March 24, 2014, 05:26:48 PM
It shouldn't affect modern PCs & browsers, but theymos said there is a limit to prevent it from taking up too many resources.

You can view all posts on a single page for topics shorter than 26 pages.
