Stick with it guys there's some good news coming tomorrow, have a new win wallet compiled which contains some big security improvements including the heartbleed fix.

The rest of the coin features will be brought inline with current Bitcoin in the next few weeks, with some additional custom improvement to make us as secure as some of the most valuable top 10 coins on coinmarketcap. The mac wallet will be released with the winning design from the coin competition again some 2 weeks away. We will be running a large twitter campaign all week to get votes for the winning designer.

I have added a link to the initial sites for the tree planting to the front page of this thread. I updated the text a few days ago.

Pool ops/large miners please contact me at your earliest convenience as you need to update your clients promptly.

Dev,

Have you contacted the Devs from Cleanwatercoin?

You can set up some things where you could work together. Establish a relationship with them and marucoin as well, as you all have something in common.

Hi Chris

Development is making steady progress. Next stop bringing Carboncoin up to speed with penultimate release of BTC and implementing some extra custom defence mechanisms, with the release of the new logo.

I will look those Devs up when I get a minute, definitely would be nice to get some help on the retail/payment side of things.

I updated the front page earlier today, constructive feedback appreciated.

+1

How many opportunities do you have to actually buy a premine percentage-sized amount of coin off an exchange for less than 1 satoshi? Your market cap calc should tell you a small investment carries a lot of weight here.

Buy some, donate half to the donations wallet and then hold the rest. Due to be pushing out an updated wallet and client to pools/exchanges within the next 2 weeks or so, and then a version with new branding after that. One or two excellent designs starting to appear.

We will then be releasing our proposed timeline for the fork to a zero-PoW model and how this will be managed.

In the absence of any other suggestions, are we thinking that we should use Ning's design? (I like it)

Or perhaps someone want to throw up a separate ANN (probably best another s-m) about the rebrand competition itself, including the bounty etc? Might be good publicity...

"Carboncoin Logo Competition - capturing the essence of carbon sequestration" Offering 1M Carboncoin to the winner, voting to commence  [some date 1 week from now]."

I wont be able to monitor this myself but happy to push the winning design out with the next version.

Thanks to additional contrib from zebedee bounty for competition winner is now 3M Carboncoin if we choose to go ahead.

Hi gagalady et al,

Totally take your point on the presentation. I am working on updating the front page of this and the ANN in light of the various developments which have occurred while addressing objections and hashing out ideas on this thread. Please bear with me, I have been and continue to be very busy. The new front page will contain specifics of locations among other things.

Did block halving occur? Mining rewards are similar to before.

No excuse not to donate.

Delving into src code, halving occurs at block 50112 - longer than expected because there was a week long delay when former developer had launched the genesis but did no mining. About 2.5 days to go! Should significantly ease selling pressure at the 1 level.

Seeing lots of trollfeeding going on. Please join me in ignoring him. If you see he has posted, dont bother to read it, simply post something positive about what we are doing and leave the small time hobbyist to his musings. We all have more useful things to do with our time.

No amount of time spent reasoning with this bore is going to shut him up unfortunately, and he repeatedly refused a private audience with myself to address his concerns. Bottom line is, unrefutably, he has no interest in getting a balanced opinion here, and should be given no further attention.

I have been working on the fork to PoS (no small task) and also on looking into viable and cost effective forestry related certified carbon offsetting schemes out there, of which there are a big variety. I do still feel that taking on some certified offset in tandem with the forestry project might be a good step for us. In order to get investment and take-up in the wider community we need to have all of the weapons we can to address any attempts to discredit what we are trying to do.

As ever anyone wishing to help or contribute please see this thread: http://coinstack.org/index.php?board=20.0 where if you see any tasks needing doing that I have not mentioned please post them there.

Remember see a troll, ignore, post something positive, move on.

Hi guys,

The 1m = 1tree analogy is just a guide, this price in CARB will go down as the price goes up, and it is all a function of the underlying fiat cost of planting a tree.

The point of the donations account is that is will be spent on measurable and quantifiable offset - that is, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the Carboncoin in the wallet will be spent on directly taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, and as much as we can of it.

We wont be releasing the funds out of the donation wallet at anything like current price levels, and in tranches of no more than 1M at a time, with each transfer being justified individually and accounted for here:

http://coinstack.org/index.php?topic=92.0

Any donors will have their names featured on the leaderboard there for being part of the solution. Every care will be taken to release the Carboncoin from the donations wallet to the market at a rate which does not disrupt the market in any way. At no point will the price be taken down 5 ticks for example.

The more we have in the wallet in percentage terms the more of a case we have for getting support from environmentalists. I think 10% of holdings is a sensible option for people holding a % or more. I am suggesting anyone buying in between here and 10s keeps half and puts half in the fund.

The reality of this is the value of this coin as a concept is a direct function of the percentage donated.

Here's something interesting to discuss in addition to our future-offset forestry projects already in place:

I have been having discussions with some very interesting people in conventional carbon offset, learning lots about the mechanics of the industry, and it turns out some of my fears about the channel were misguided. So, we can get a gold standard in offset for our coin before long and feature several verified sequestration related conventional offsetting projects on our books.
I will come up with a BTC cost for our initial gold standard carbon neutrality certification, but it looks like it will just under 1BTC.

Does everyone think this is a good idea? If so, we can start a fundraising for this BTC separately from the Carboncoin donations.

Best,

AM

We have enough saplings planted currently to cope with 60x our current carbon footprint. We will be forking to PoS once we have got sufficient takeup from the mining community, or as and when our footprint is near to exceeding that which we have offset already.

Please donate to help the cause. It will be a great thing if it works.

273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: April 09, 2014, 10:55:23 PM
So, got in touch with Danny Bradbury the journalist who is doing the series on the carbon footprint of bitcoin via twitter - had a skype interview and our efforts got mentioned in today's article! Pretty amazing to be mentioned in such an awesome publication in the space!

Would be good for people to find out that per kilo of absorbed CO2 we are much cheaper in fiat terms than anyone else offering anything similar, in terms of tree longevity in a protected environment.

When we get sufficient Carboncoin donations in the donations wallet in percentage terms, I will dispense with my anonymity and go to the press with this personally. The opportunity in supporting the takeup and use of Carboncoin as a currency is that we are able to offset the carbon footprint of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies using the same mechanism which created the value in them in the first place.

If everyone bought some Carboncoin and donated half to the Carboncoin donation wallet we would be able to pay for the offset of the carbon footprint of cryptocurrencies, at the same time as allowing everyone to make money in the process - provided people also got on board with assisting the infrastructure too.

This is not a tax, this is exactly the opposite!

Can I also just say that anyone taking any power from the grid is using power, where anyone says that comes from is not relevent in terms of cost to the environment.
You use 1kWh of electricity from the grid, paying a renewable energy supplier, you stop anyone else using electricity from the grid using that kWh of renewable energy and cause them to use one from a coal burner.

Creating environmentally friendly energy sources brings the total damage caused by everyone using electricity down in percentage terms alone. Using electricity is using electricity. Wasting it is wasting it. If you use electricity from the grid, you use electricity period. If you insulate yourself from the grid, using just your own renewable energy source, then you aren't really being part of the solution are you? Society must take responsibility for the impact of all its members.

Have always maintained that the Carbon Footprint of crypto is just the starting block. I have yet to discuss my PoS model on here yet as am seeking help with development, but this needs to get its value first which means getting it out there one way or another and having to deal with a bit of mining. This coin is designed as a rapid value generation tool, and that is what I am endeavouring to use it as for the benefit of the environment. When mining becomes a problem and we fork to PoS it will still be a currency, the same as bitcoin and litecoin, but one having had a genuine bonafide positive effect on the environment. Once a million trees have been planted the Carboncoin carbon dioxide sequestered will be ~1Gtonne. Another 600k trees and we have 1.6GTonnes == 10 CARB per kilo of CO2, x10 == 1 CARB per kilo of CO2, point is if we do it this way it is unlimited what we can achieve.
275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: April 08, 2014, 03:39:57 PM
Thank you for the constructive comments. I can totally see the potential for trading carboncredits using this technology, not only that I have thought long and hard about how to do it. The key thing here is that I believe the Carboncoin needs to be a currency to allow the environment to take advantage of the astonishing capital growth that can be provided. I am not looking for a platform for a 1 to 1 exchange for fiat money to trees here, I am looking to create a reservoir of Carboncoin which will be able to provide many times the offset donated in Carboncoin, this is how I feel we can have the impact I am looking for. This is why it is so essential for people holding a significant amount of them to put some in the donations wallet.

Trees planted for permanent forestry on trusted land both in the US and the UK will be cared for and left for as long as they live - this sequesters a lot more Carbon Dioxide than a 15 year operation. Once the quota of over a million trees have been planted in this first stage of the project we will certainly be looking for other opportunities and I will definitely consider your operation if I feel it is fully quantifiable and a suitable arrangement can be made as to reinvestment of some portion of the profit to other offsetting operations, or if we can multiply our firepower by combining with any exisiting subsidy operations, as we will look to do with the first sites. We would also need to complete a risk assessment of the political landscape among other things, before taking on any new project in the developing world.

Directly funding offsetting projects, completely bypassing NGO's etc, is certainly my aim. If we plant as much permanent forestry as I want to long term as well as creating permanently self sustaining carbon sink ecosystems, we will be able to make a real difference here.

Our costs for equivalent Carbon Credit offset will always be a fraction of that of going through the mainstream, and we will be able to provide an indication of the weight in Carbon that is to be absorbed by the individual donations we receive. I will publish a separate figure of the total we actually manage to offset through the currency [100% of the proceeds from the donations wallet will be spent on direct offset] and by keeping this a currency not attached to anything, this should absolutely dwarf any actual investment made, provided we do what is necessary to stimulate usuage of Carboncoin as a medium of exchange.
276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: April 08, 2014, 01:30:20 PM
We do need to figure out a way to deal with the markets if this coin is going to last. By that I mean that we somehow need to mitigate the fact that currently there are hundreds of millions, if not billions, of carboncoins sitting on exchanges not able to sell for even 1 satoshi.

In the beginning of any coin's life, it depends entirely on miners to survive. So we need to remedy this somehow or the coin will suffer a quick death.

Miners selling low from the outset is nothing more than an opportunity for buyers, and the fairest/most natural form of distribution we could get IMO. Buyers bear in mind: how valuable Carboncoin gets is a direct function of how much of the currency we allocate to our benevolent operations. The sensible strategy is to buy, hold half, give half to the offset fund.

I will say again, if anyone wants to buy an amount greater than 1BTC worth, provided you donate, I am happy to assist you. Whether that be telling you how to do it or fulfilling your order myself. We are currently sitting at just over 60M in the donations wallet. I will not be seeking attention from the media until this is over 160M or 1% of our total coins. I would like it to be significantly more than that in percentage terms.

Pool ops: I am drafting an email to send to the mining community requesting support through donation or otherwise, and would be grateful if you could forward this on. I will be contacting you directly in due course with this.

Remember, the more of this coin in percentage terms that is donated to benevolent operations the more valuable the remainder will become. It's a great trade. I think 10% of holdings is a sensible donation to anyone with a lot of them. All donors will be added to the leaderboard, and the funds will not be moved until it is appropriate to do so, when they will be released back to the market responsibly, in tranches of no more than 1M.

In other news - is anyone out there of a graphic design ilk? We are having a competition to design a new logo. Please see the new forum to enter that and for other jobs we have on. http://coinstack.org/index.php?board=20.0. We will be putting the rebrand to a vote once we have at least two more suggestions.
277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: April 07, 2014, 11:36:50 PM
Actually one last go Spoetnik before you are ignored permanently, you know why? Well because I have grown to enjoy spoiling your tainted view of the world. Thank you for responding so maturely to the direct message I sent you politely asking you to allow me to explain what is going on here. Your "fuck off" response leaves me really not too worried about any offence I might cause you in this.

I will deal with your posts in turn but will not be replicating your text unless absolutely necessary, because when I ignore you immediately afterwards I want no further evidence of you. You have failed to answer any of my attempts to reason with you with any maturity whatsoever, and we are done here.

Post 1) Why don't you read the article before slandering the entire publication, which I might add, does far more to service this community than you
ever will. See any mention of Carboncoin there? No I thought not. Will you be taking any of your untrue pathetic nonsense back? I have my
           doubts.

Post 2) Sounds to me like a very good filter indeed. Your absence alone probably just increased that particular forum's value dramatically.

Post 3) Well hasn't the repetition become dry.  So let's begin, again:
          a) Not a scam - you could always put it in capitals next time, you know, for emphasis.
          b) Will be around for as long as this project funds helping the planet, as will my trustees, and afterwards I anticipate managing the projects to
be something of a full time job.
          c) Still not Canadian, neither is my friend but thanks for that. Notice how I said "London based" previously. Why not come and visit sometime.
Location is disclosed, again well done for doing your research, so you could ensure not to waste anyone's time.
          d) What went down on the initial thread was absolutely nothing to do with me. The original developer came online twice. I have been here
pretty much every day since I took this on. Your continued slander strikes me as nothing more than the ruminations of a lonely, desparate
individual. "Go and plant a tree lol"? What about over a million of them. For starters. What is it you are so afraid of?
          e) The original developer was exactly one of those people you mention by the looks of things. I am not, but you haven't even considered it for
a moment have you? "Enjoy...   ...Bottom line..." they all sound rather final. Does that mean you might finally do something worthwhile with
              your time?

Post 4) Homophobic too now are we (note: Spoetnik referred to forks of existing cryptocurrencies as "faggy clones") My my aren't you just one all
out terrific human being. We're here because we are an established coin even if we are evolving rapidly. Go trawl through all of the other
posts in this forum without exception spouting the same message and when you are finished please feel free to come back and give us your
very special brand of attention. You wouldn't want to be displaying bias now would you?

You're not going to win here and I am going to delight in proving you and all of your FUD dispensing associates just exactly as wrong as you are.
Just watch.

Finally, a coin that actually has a decent idea. It doesn't innovate much but the fact it allows you to offset CO2 is pretty cool Tongue

Thank you sir, that means a lot.
279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: April 07, 2014, 10:34:51 PM
10 Million heading to the fund now.

Come on people! Offset some of your mining.

At this difficulty, a couple of million can be mined in no time at all.  Mine and donate now before the block halving happens in a few days.

AKA Darkpill

Great way to lead by example @danonthehill! Thank you for your show of faith, you will not be disappointed. I have added you to the list on the new forum; and again @Ning! Please let me know how much you donated, on the new thread so I can keep it up to date.

We need the rest of the community to participate in this for it to work. At time of writing our benevolent operations currently have 56,300,000 Carboncoin in the donations wallet. This is under 1% of our total circulation. We need the rest of the community to participate in this and the time to donate is now.

The current development team had no access to the premine, and all of these coins are back in circulation. Getting the community to participate in donating coins is by far a better way than a premine. There is no control going on here. We are creating a story that people will relate to and this surpasses value.

If you donate 10% of your Carboncoin to this endeavour and that leads the value of what we are doing to increase by 1000x, would you complain? Would any holders of Carboncoin complain if this were to happen?

If you are thinking "I dont need to donate to this" or "other people will donate enough for it to happen anyway"; that is a rubbish attitude. You should want your name added to the list, you should be proud to be on it, as should everyone who has donated so far.

The Carboncoin donation address is here: LFsTe6yRk1TXuGGW6kKwG8L3N4pkx5b6Do.

The coins in the wallet remain untouched (and note they have done so far), and they will do until such a time as the value of the coins is far greater than what you see now, but this will only happen if we get the buy in of the community and if we have enough of a percentage in the wallet to get the buy in of the mass media.

Let it be written here that no more than 1M coins will ever be released in any one transaction to the market from this wallet and each transaction will be individually justified on the new thread. To repeat myself: 100% of the proceeds of the sale of Carboncoin from this wallet will go towards projects which directly sequester Carbon Dioxide and other pollutants from the atmosphere in a way which encourages nature and supports ecosystems on a massive scale. We wont be using 3rd party schemes to keep the middlemen to a minimum so that we can do the most with the funds we have.

If anyone wishes to support this project by purchasing a large amount of Carboncoin to place in the wallet, or if you would like this done for you please get in touch with me directly. Provided you make a donation to what we are doing here, I am very happy to help.

This is real. I am not going anywhere, but please support the project, it is the thing which gives Carboncoin value.

As ever if you have any meaningful questions please pm me, and if you want to contribute financially or otherwise please check out the new forum where we are exclusively focussed on getting jobs done, away from the doubt and the slander.
