I just bought the dip. Seriously though, the bitcoin roller coaster guy deserves a break, and so do I.

Cheers guys.

Darn it! I am jealous.

So who here actually believes the $1.9T "stimulus package" will be printed at the 2.19% 30T interest rate?

Bueller?  Grin

hard to say, maybe even lower at first, of course higher sometime later, but when?
2603  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 26, 2021, 01:18:05 AM
Someone, maybe Peter Brandt calls it: strong opinions, weakly held.
Here is one (may not be popular):

My default scenario was btc going to $70-85K before May, then correcting to maybe 45K, then going to 150-200K in a double hump (a la 2013 scenario) but, admittedly, we were going up a tad too fast and s-tcoins were not helping by overheating at the same time.

Now, my secondary scenario is that we might correct deeper here (with out first run being 3.1K to 58K or 3.8K to 58K if you count from March 2020).
Since we did not climb too high, the correction might be milder (to 33-40K), followed by the last (this cycle) hurrah to $140-200K, weather permitting.

Somehow both stock market and bitcoin feel bearish, which could be temporary...or not.
Strangely enough, it looks like 1.9 tril stimulus is already "priced in", which is a surprise, I was thinking that there would be another bump.

In addition, COIN listing might suck out some institutional liquidity from btc as WS would go for "picks and shovels" instead of the actual coin.

Not selling, or buying.
2604  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 25, 2021, 03:52:12 PM
Are you going to get 'them COINs?

Coinbase will go public in a direct listing very soon as S-1 is published.
At above $100bil valuation, I feel like there is no more current 'value" left.
Of course, it could "pop" 30% or more on the first day, but i feel like it would be more of an IPO "dud" like FB and UBER within a week or two.
Later on, maybe a better prospect.

Mixing metaphors...nobody talks about diamond hands among bitcoiners, imho.
that's a GME meme.
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/bitcoins-2021-rally-is-minting-thousands-of-crypto-diamond-hands-millionaires-11614200303

That said, 20tc bought in 2014 for $4000-4500 is above $1mil, so i think that actual investor numbers are much smaller than 100K (multiple wallets, etc.)
I would say it is probably 10-30K, still much smaller numbers than total number of millionaires (50 mil), so it is not even register.
At about $0.5-1mil/btc bitcoiners would start to affect overall millionaire numbers.

The thing I found interesting is you only need a few cells from the animal. So you could eat an otherwise endangered animal. And they're starting to be successful in bringing back to life species that have died off. Who knows, maybe the dodo bird is really tasty but we don't know.

Yes, absolutely, I made almost the exact same supposition somewhere above.
Maybe this how it would start-as an expensive exotic "meats".

Calling him dangerously insane because he argues for synthetic beef isn't a great starter. Producing beef is incredibly wasteful, not to mention you have to butcher an animal.

I'm a proud carnivore, yet I would gladly switch to synthetic meat when it is similar in taste and cost. There's simply no reason not to.

Agreed. I see no extra value in the death and suffering of an animal, and would appreciate synth meat if it tasted like the real thing.

I have zero issue eating correctly replicated meats.

Same here. I am fine with it, if the meat doesn't grow on a living thing like a cow or a pig as long as it tasts the same. Why not.

yeah, but would it be a 5% or 27% fat "meat". If 27%, count me out  Wink, unless it is wagu.

Kidding aside, I doubt that we will get there on cost, but it allows for exotic meats, of course.
Secondly, few years later people would not remember how "real" meat tastes. Perhaps, real meat would become a luxury item.

Wall Observer Meta post:

I had some more free time and created this merit network graphic of WO thread. I was exploring flourish and trying new graphics.

Click in the image to see the interactive network graphic:

https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/5379872/

When you hover the graphic you can see your merit network and earned merits. The biggest the point, more merit earned (in WO only). Sadly I wasn't able to find myself lol

Created using LoyceV full merit data

Pretty nice.

Edit: Old meme... I should have updated it to 125x. We were around $400 5 years ago.

Well, if we change that 5 year scenario to 6 years, we are at about 188x with our current price at about $47k, since for much of 2015, bitcoin prices were at $250 and $250 was a kind of jumping off point for BTC prices with about 10 months of abilities to buy at or around those prices.

Think about it, bitcoin relatively speaking has been a way easier investment for normies to get into than other investments, even for the unbanked.. considering getting in Tesla or some other stocks.

So does that mean I'm like 250x up?? Shocked Shocked Shocked

I suggest to respect the Dip....until it is over.

Elon Musk literally crashed the market to create a Tesla logo in the charts.

The rich are toying with us like we are their play things with our precious Internet money.

In an alternative interpretation, Kraken had some trading engine mismatch problems over multiple coins, including btc.
Maybe btc decline was the cause of such calamity or the result of some faulty executions, who knows.
2612  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 22, 2021, 04:06:17 AM
Looking at Deribit, in order to get 10% premium for March 26 calls you need to sell at $60k strike, meaning that if in 1 month BTC goes up by anything over 7% you'll loose some of your BTC (or as you claim "miss out on some capital gains"). Now you just have to do it consistently every month, and hope Deribit doesn't go the way of Gox.

mtgox and blockfi aside (you are correct there, imho), why 60K and why all the time in Deribit?
Why selling here now as some people have done instead of picking your potential sell price (75, 100, 200) and lock in an additional premium?
Big whoop if you lock in premium at 200 and it goes to 300.
Of course, nobody says anything about doing it with the whole stash-well maybe somebody does it, but it ain't me.
I haven't done diddly-squat yet, kind of kicking the tires right now.
Peeps with a large stash should have talked to a fin advisor who understand these types of strategies

If you do this with the whole stash, then you better use even more advanced strategies using futures, etc.
planB (or preston pysh?) is saying that hedgies are on the hook for 1.5 bil already selling futures and buying same amount of spot btc, of vice versa, I don't recall.
Apparently, it is 20% yearly return with practically no risk. It is caused by a significant contango in btc futures..

with your constant insistence of selling BTC on the way up. Now that's a stupid strategy.

indeed, it is, no question about it, apart from the fact that btc keeps going up and bails out those who pursue this.
2616  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 22, 2021, 01:12:53 AM
These people who sell are always a step ahead. After 8 years of hodling I was ready to sell my first small amount BTC (not the one I bought Oct 2020) at $59444. And they knew many people will sell at 59k ish so they started the sell off at 57k  Roll Eyes Now I will rethink if I sell below $99k  Cool

How about don't sell at all. At these price levels, there are ways to make an income of 10s of thousands USD a month on your exsisting stash without selling. This applies to stashes under 10 BTC too. Life is good at these levels.

Fuck third-party custody, if you are considering or enticed by anything that involves that.

There are some concepts in bitcoin.. the real deal bitcoin, that incentives are built in, so bitcoin is already designed to increase in value.. .what the fuck more do you need, you greedy fucks (#nohomo) who may well be seriously considering placing your coins with some stupid-ass service trying to claim legitimacy and enticing you with supposed "passive income" .. blah blah blah..

Did I say, "fuck that?"  Don't be fucking trying to short-cut your BTC accumulation goals by thinking that you can "make money" using convoluted (surprise terms) contracts when if you accumulate adequately, then you will have way more options just living off the likely ongoing BTC price appreciation that has no real signs of stopping, even though it it is likely to continue to have up and down cycles along the way.. and you can take advantage of that in your long term planning and your refusal to take stupid-ass shortcuts that may well end up screwing you out of your coins by hook or by crook or just by bad luck (such as great price moves that liquidate you out of your supposed collateral that you were not able to adequately cover because you were to fucking busy gambling out of greed).

You will thank me later, even if you might not be able to measure what you are thanking me for, exactly...  Wink

Convoluted contracts. What are you talking about? blockfi? that is not optimal, sure, I would never give Zack my btc.
However, selling covered calls is a very well known financial technique that involves NO lending and, frankly, is VASTLY advantageous to the outright selling since you are not selling anything at ALL, UNLESS the price is above whatever the value is, chosen by yourself and nobody else. Covered calls assume that you write them against whatever bitcoin you sent to the broker, they are not "naked", therefore "were not able to adequately cover" is not possible and just shows that you need to research this topic more.

Of course it s not better than hodling, but it is superior to repetitive selling up or down, skimming small amounts (or not small, whatever) that you advocate.
Selling covered calls is actually a perfect trade for mined coins since you can lock in value without a sale or assuming a sale at MUCH higher levels if you chose to do it.
If you are lucky, then you retain your btc and if not, you still sold btc at a higher to much higher price (depending on your chosen price for the contract: 75, 100, 200K).
However, if btc is not sold in the end, you generate income and not cap. gains-maybe it matters for some.

Psychologically, you should consider bitcoin on which you wrote covered calls as pre-sold right now for the price attained at some moment in the future. The person on the other of the trade gives you cash right now for the RIGHT to buy btc at that future date at the price that YOU chose (be it 75, 100 or 200K). Yea, tough luck if btc is at 300K and the guy would approx 30X his money and you only get 200K/btc+whatever premium is currently there. Your counterparty would made bank, but so what, you still get your 200K, keep the premium and did not dilly-dally with "little" buys/sells at 56K.

I’m having a bit of a mental struggle..

How much should I be kicking myself in the ass for not accumulating more, VS how thankful am I for having accumulated what I have and for the most part held..

Thankful or regretful?

When the crypto world changed around 2017 I got lazy and stopped accumulating..
Since then, my methods of accumulation have become almost impossible..

I’m almost afraid to go back to it..
Do I still have it in me? Can I even do it legally? All that paperwork and accounting they require now?
I SHOULD but I just can’t bring myself to it..
Shit, I can barely bring myself to even move coin anymore..

You can always mine. It still produces meaningful amount of coins.
Requires a leap of faith, though, in purchasing the miner and either sticking it in the basement or arranging for hosting.
I am surprised that this method of DCAing is not much discussed here even though it is VASTLY more profitable as a DCA method during bull runs since your purchase price is rising only with difficulty rising, NOT with btc price rising. Difficulty rise was not exponential (16T to 22T) during the last 12mo.
2618  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 21, 2021, 05:24:06 PM
For anyone considering selling covered calls, just keep in mind this could be a very expensive decision

There is an outside chance that Bitcoin could go to crazy number this year.  A $3.5k payment for giving away all the upside on a $200k sale in December 21 may not be a very good deal at all. It’s only a good deal if you are happy selling at $200k no matter what.  Because the price could be $500k at that time. In that scenario, you just lost $296.5k in value.

Of course, but could be a good idea if you are buying a ranch and need another mil or so  Cheesy.
Instead of selling, collect premium on 75-100K Dec. In the worst case-you sold at that 75 or 100 PLUS premium.
Still better than selling at 50ish.

at some point, long time ago I did some rudimentary stat analysis of that on this thread, don't want to try to find it.
basically, we did not significantly increase world millionaire numbers (since there are 46.80 mil or so world-wide).
0.104173/46.8=0.222%, which is stat insignificant.
BTC has to go up approx 20X (to 1.1 mil)  to bring our $ millionaire numbers to above 5% of the world's numbers where it would start to be significant-rough numbers.

More sophisticated calculation below says that for 2.5mil bitcoin $ millionaires to be in existence, btc has to be at $781,250 (and you have to hold 1.28 btc).

3. Sell BTC covered calls

Hint: covered calls are a great way to sell you BTC, rather than the traditional sell at certain price point on normal exchange.

3. I like this. I imagine it is something like this: sell covered calls by posting btc collateral, and actually sell the btc at the strike price on expiry. Do you have any idea where that is possible?

You are correct. Deribit and FTX, are 2 places that I know off the top of my head. And you don't have to always post a full BTC as collateral, you can use margin, but then run risk of margin call.

There is of course the risk of a big price move in one month meaning you will miss out on a lot of capital appreciation.

Of course: a little like selling too early. But you do get advance money in return, after all. No free lunch and all that. I'm going to check the exchanges you suggested to get a feel for the premiums.

something like that.
You can sell 75K bitcoin calls, collect premium.
Then, if btc is lower than 75K at expiration, you keep BOTH your premium cash and your bitcoin, rinse and repeat.
If it is higher that 75K, then somebody basically buys your bitcoin at exactly 75K (plus $ premium that you collected).
The best thing, it is european style options (at least on ledger X, which is US-based), so your bitcoin would not be yanked from under you in the interim.
Not so good-you need to qualify with above $5 mil to sell options at intermediate odd prices (like 57, etc.).
Anybody who gets approved for the regular account could sell at 25, 50, 75K, now probably 100K as well.
I was considering selling some calls when btc was at $42K, very happy so far that I didn't.
EDIT: I checked and Dec 2021 75K calls have ~16K premium while 100K calls ~11K. Wow.
You can sell Dec 31 2021 200K calls and collect 3.8K in premium (on the bid)-exactly the lowest price in 2020.
The worst case scenario-you would sell at 200K plus 3.8K premium.
Lazer eyes.

I can see gold becoming a useful cheap metal for making 100-200 year long batteries for Tesla's electric cars.

ford is going electric for a reason.  they all know those asteroids are loaded with insane amounts of gold.

Gold makes super long lasting batteries if it were to be worth 100 x less or 17 a pound vs 1700 a pound  we would have multi generational batteries.

Sell your gold and buy btc

Ford is switching to all electric 2030 for a reason they know Elon will be mining those asteroids bigly.

We are heading into a new world of cheap long lasting power.

BTC is the tool that will allow it to happen.

hodl hodl hodl.

500k before 2030

We wont be driving cars in 100 years; we'll be teleporting... to Mars.

WE is a tad optimistic (although I wouldn't mind, really).

why not it is a spec thread.

I wouldn't mind laser eyes upgrade as well.
