2661  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto Mortgages Let Homebuyers Keep Bitcoin, Put Down Nothing on: May 08, 2022, 03:44:07 AM
Generally it’s not wise to use Bitcoin as collateral for anything. Remember when Bitmex was the largest futures exchange? Remember that nasty crash we had back in late 2018.

Most of it was due to the positions being held in Bitcoin as collateral. Problem was when Bitcoin lost its value the position needed more BTC to keep open. However since value of Bitcoin dropped it worked as a domino affect pretty much and why we had a huge cascading liquidating event that month.

For mortgages it’s not a good idea either and that 14% interest rate is just crazy.
2662  Economy / Economics / Re: Where Bitcoin Stands during a Stagflation on: May 08, 2022, 03:40:58 AM
It’s hard to say.

Generally with stagflation it follows a recession. A recession is not good for stock market. Bitcoin follows the stock market now.

So it might go down however when the fed goes in and starts printing money, people will buy stocks and crypto again due to inflation fears.

So far it’s trading sideways and drifting slowly down. Much healthier than most other assets out there except commodities.
2663  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Breaks Bullish Trend Line? on: May 08, 2022, 03:38:53 AM
One issue I am worried about is that during the last Microstrategy conference call, they said they got a liquidation price of $21K for their Bitcoin position. This is worrying because when the bears hear those targets they will usually try and run them.

Especially since it’s still above the $20K old ATH and most likely if last years $28K breaks then it can get down to $21K pretty fast.

Depending on the state of the global markets then, they will need to liquidate a large portion of their BTC and it’ll be nasty. Hopefully it never comes to that.
2664  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: FTX Question - How to set take-profit before opening position? on: May 08, 2022, 03:35:15 AM
Wondering if this is possible.

Say you got a limit order set, and before this limit order fills, you want to a take profit order. Is this possible?

Say you want to buy bitcoin at $35000, so you set a limit order for $35000 and you want to take profit at $40000. With a stop at $30000.

You would set a buy order at $35000, and a stop market sell order at $30000. However when I try and make a limit sell for $40000 using the reduce only option, I get an error because the long position is not opened yet. I need to open the position first and then I can add the reduce only option for the sell order.

Anyway to add all 3, a limit order, stop order and take profit order before I get my fill ? I am pretty sure its not possible with FTX.

Maybe it possible with the Quant Zone?
It Isn't possible in spot, but it is possible in future BITMEX and I have even done it in Binance as well, basically, first you put a buy limit order on whatever price that you want to buy on let's say 40000, then you put a short position stop-Limit on 42000 but keep its trigger at around 41900, which means if the price goes to around 41900, it will then put a reduce only order at 42000 to sell this position that you might enter, similarly for selling it on a stop loss create a stop limit at around 38000 with a trigger price of 38001, which means this order will get trigger only if prices goes below 38001.You shouldn't find any erorrs in placing these and your purpose is fullfiled too.

Yes I know you can do it on some exchanges. And on some exchanges you can put a reduce only order and if price hits that area and you don’t have a position open then it just cancels it.

The issue with FTX is that if you make a reduce only order it will give you an error if you don’t have a position open. Even if you have an order for that position which is unfilled, it gives an error.

2666  Economy / Economics / Re: "...all of the bitcoin in the world for $25" on: May 07, 2022, 02:35:19 AM
He has been bearish about crypto since the beginning pretty much. And honestly when I first heard about Bitcoin I also assumed it was a scam. Then I learnt more about it and realized that it has very good value.

For someone like Buffet, if you give him the white paper, he won’t make it a sentence before scratching his head out of confusion. He wont get it even if you explain it to him 100 times.

Since he doesn’t understand it, he wont buy it because it’s a risky investment. Many people need to understand this.
2667  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Breaks Bullish Trend Line? on: May 07, 2022, 02:32:03 AM
Most people I know personally all have gotten out of crypto and stocks. They all sold because they want to rebuy lower for half. They are also pretty convinced that there will be a recession soon. Everywhere you go people are talking about a recession.

One thing I learnt about the markets is that if the retail market all thinks one thing, then most likely it won’t happen. So who knows when the bottom will be. There is a good chance that maybe it already bottomed out since people are so bearish now.
2668  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PSU with 120/240 switch on: May 06, 2022, 03:00:13 AM
Yeah those voltage switches sure brings back memories of when I was building computers as a kid. Then I saw that PSU never came with those switches. The PSU automatically detects the voltage and automatically switches.

I actually for fun tried mining with those silver box OEM PSU. It actually worked but efficiency was horrible. From the wall it used 300 watts but only actually 200 watts to the rig. And after maybe a day or two it stopped working all together. So definitely can’t use them for mining.
2669  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Making more out of your mined coins on: May 06, 2022, 02:56:18 AM
Depending on the coin you can lend it out with the exchange you are using. You will get some % that way.

If you sell and hold USDT then you will get the most lending out tether. However now it’s not as high as it was the in the past.

I remember last year I think you could of net 3-4% in the month of May 2021 just by lending it out. Now a days it’s completely different story. Only works during bull markets.
2670  Economy / Economics / Re: Looks like markets are crashing ! this is it ...it's the big one ! on: May 06, 2022, 02:52:10 AM
No idea who follows stocks but today was a horrible day in the markets. Just like last Friday.
Seems that there is less liquidity and seeing almost close to -10% drops on Large cap stocks like Amazon and Tesla seem to be the norm.

During bull markets it’s never normal to get a -10% or +10% day. However we get these days every week pretty much.

Many bulls are completely battered and calling it quits and accepting that a recession is about to follow.
2671  Economy / Speculation / Re: Future prospects for bitcoin on: May 06, 2022, 02:48:37 AM
There is a relationship. Right now every crypto trader looks for 2 things every month. One is the fed meeting and decision and another is the CPI print.
Usually prior the markets are very flat and become very volatile after the reports are out. Even though it has nothing to benefit from either, traders are taking those reports as a way to gauge their trading decision.

2672  Economy / Economics / Re: Warren Buffett and His Expansive Explanation against Bitcoin on: May 05, 2022, 02:23:05 AM
I’ve been following his negative speech towards Bitcoin for years. And I don’t know why people expect him to one day wake up and say he loves Bitcoin, it won’t happen.

He has a very strict investment protocol and Bitcoin is just too advanced for him. Same with airlines. He doesn’t like to invest in airlines and last time he did he ended up losing some money by selling too early.

With Bitcoin it’s no different. He is just too old to understand how it works.
2673  Economy / Speculation / Re: Future prospects for bitcoin on: May 05, 2022, 02:20:18 AM
We already know that the fed will keep raising rates till the end of the year, we will end up at like 2.5% or so. So this is all priced in.

Many people knew about this last week when it was hinted that tapering is ending and rates will have to go up. The stock market with Bitcoin priced it in.

Only time that a fed meeting will have a big affect is if they do a surprise hike, or raise by more or less than 50bps. But right now everybody is expecting these 50bps hikes to go on.
2674  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Potential to Drop in the $32k Area on: May 05, 2022, 02:17:24 AM
With what happened today after the fed rate it’s proof that we will range a little while longer while following what the us stock indices are doing.

Been a choppy week for both Bitcoin and stocks however after today’s speech both had a very healthy rally. However I just think we will keep ranging.

I don’t see stocks or Bitcoin going any lower or breaking the ATH within the next 3 months or so. Will be mostly choppy like it’s been for the past few months.
2675  Economy / Economics / Re: How Much Garden You Would Need to 100% Survive On on: May 03, 2022, 03:06:02 AM
This will not work for many people. Take people who live in New York City for example. They don’t own a home with a large garden. They can’t grow any food and vegetables.

Another issue is the weather. Many fruits and vegetables can only grow in certain climates. So you can’t rely on growing your own food year round if you live where it’s cold in the winter which is how it is with many people.

2676  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the World Feed Itself? Historic Fertilizer Crunch Threatens Food Security on: May 03, 2022, 03:03:38 AM
Yes it’s crazy what is happening and what is worse for farmers is also the price of diesel. Even though crude oil is around $100 the price of diesel in many prices is at ATH due to the war in Europe.

Something to do with the cold spring climate and how diesel is used for heating instead of natural gas which Russia is not supplying. So in many parts of the country price of diesel is very expensive and most farm machinery needs diesel.

Went to Costco the other day and found out that they want $20 CAD for a Watermelon, crazy pricing.
2677  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 120$ bad for 580s? on: May 03, 2022, 02:58:30 AM
It’s seems like a good price given it’s 8gb. Just make sure it’s not a scam. Maybe it’s not because many miners are calling it quits due to the profitability lately.

I had a bunch of the 4GB models and sold them for around $120-150 back when the 4GB still mined Ethereum. So it’s crazy how many years they have held up their value.
2678  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Am I Wrong on: May 02, 2022, 02:57:30 AM
Today was a crazy day with ETH. Like the above poster said it was the BAYC NFT and the transactions fees were nuts. I think at one point it was like 4000 GWEI and something like $70M worth of ETH burned today alone due to these transactions.

People are saying they were handled poorly and could of been some gas savings if they did the transactions a little different however it was done in a poor way and so much ETH was wasted on fees alone today.

Good for miners I guess.
2679  Economy / Economics / Re: What crypro / tokens has the most utility ? looks like all are useless on: May 02, 2022, 02:54:06 AM
Honestly, most are useless. Even those gaming tokens, they are a good idea however the games are horrible and don’t really add much in reality.

I think most of the reasons why many of these tokens or altcoins pump it’s due to speculation. Most of tokens have good marketing and traders see that it might pump in the future and that’s why they buy it.

However outside of BTC, ETH or stablecoins which altcoin did you actually use in the past to buy goods and services? Probably none.
2680  Economy / Speculation / Re: If Dow Jones falls 80%, bitcoin will fall 99% ? on: May 02, 2022, 02:51:13 AM
Be sure if Bitcoin goes down like at 20k USD, many people will be ready to buy a few cheap Bitcoins.
A large new low is very unrealistic because many people are watching Bitcoin to buy it cheap.
Many people missed it and probably are waiting to buy it cheap.

I can't really imagine why Bitcoin could go again under 20k USD or even 15k USD.

Bitcoin going to $20K is not the same as the Dow Jones losing 80% of its value. Even in a huge Great Depression the index would never go that low. The covid low was a perfect example, there was tons of fear of life ending due to the visit but the markets didn’t dip that much. Why would it go lower now?

Nasdaq is different, it’s mostly tech stocks which have huge losses at the moment because they were over valued however the Dow is only top 30 blue chip companies and it’s much more stable. I won’t have a 80% drawdown.
