3501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Crypto feel good story: Texas kids make $32,000/month mining ethereum on: September 01, 2021, 10:01:25 PM
So they started in March 2021 and made over $1000 mining on an old gaming computer? I don't see this adding up.

How much were old gaming GPUs putting out back then? I would say max $10/day. And this is at 30Mh/s. And this is only on the days when the fees were crazy high.

So I don't see how it could of made them over $1000 in a single month, unless they were hodl'ng all those ETHs and sold at $4.4K later in April.

Next week I have a feeling we will get alot of newbies joining the bitcointalk forum and ask "How can I make $1000/month mining on my old gaming computer?"?

I think they make these articles because it generates alot of views and they get lots of readers. However they really need to fact check their stories more accurately.
3502  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Favorite trading indicators? on: August 31, 2021, 04:06:20 AM
None of the indicators will help you trade really. They can be used for confirmation if anything. There are many popular ones like moving averages, horizontal support/resistance, RSI, MACD, etc. However if you rely on those you will end up having more losing trades than winning. The way you use them is if the trend is in your favour.

Then what you do is you use something such as moving averages and you enter at the moving average on a pullback. However you need to have more than 1 confirmation before you do this. You cannot just always enter when it hits a certain moving average or you will get chopped to bits. For example if bitcoin is in a strong bullish trend AND making new ATH after ATH, then you can use the moving average to get a good entry. Don't use the moving average to take shorts in a strong bull market and vice versa. You will get signals but they won't work and you will lose money.
3503  Economy / Speculation / Re: Parabolic blowoff top or Rounded top on: August 31, 2021, 04:02:20 AM
Since everybody is always expecting a parabolic blowoff top or bottom, usually the opposite will happen. Back in 2018 look at how many people kept thinking when it dipped below $6K it was a parabolic blowoff bottom and it would reverse, instead it slowly went down to like $3500 and stayed there for a month or two before finally reversing. I think it was the slow bleed to got many people impatient and got them to sell.

With bitcoins top? Who knows. Since people are expecting >$100K sometime in Oct/Nov most likely it won't happen. Its also possible that BTC might have a double top at $65000 since nobody expects that to happen. Usually we form a top, and then when we bounce we go to the 0.50-0.618 fib and then we resume the downtrend, however if we topped at $65000 many would be caught long if it was the top because nobody expects bitcoin to have a double top.
3504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Notice your emotion on: August 30, 2021, 03:57:43 AM
Emotions are the reason why most market participants don't make any money. They are attached to their money and don't want to lose it. The issue is that its this fear which makes them take profits early OR take losses way too late.

If you trade demo or if you back test some strategy you will see how easy it is to make money using a simple method. Whether its horizontal support/resistance, moving averages, RSI, Fibonacci, etc.

However when you put real money into the game, all of a sudden it becomes difficult. Why is that? Well its because money is involved and that is what is causing fear and greed for most people and thats how they lose money.
3505  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The best leverage size that did not got your bitcoin exhausted on: August 30, 2021, 03:10:35 AM
The best leverage size not to get your Bitcoin exhausted is 1x

Sure it seems temping to be able to 100x your initial cost and if BTC doubles in value you not only doubles but goes up 200x.

However keep in mind that most people end up liquidated trading this way. Most pros use maybe 5-10x leverage. Many use the leverage just as a counter party risk since they can keep less funds on the online exchange.

3506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The truth about PhoenixMiner on: August 30, 2021, 03:04:35 AM
As a security precaution I never used any mining software or coin wallets (except
Maybe Bitcoin core or electrum) on any of my PCs for this fear.

Back in the day there were tons of coins created and impossible to tell which was legit or not. Many of the new coins had virus in the wallets or some miners had viruses in them also.

Even these days you get some newbie who posts a link to a virus infected software promising LHR GPUs nonLHR performance.
3507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD Tahiti GPUs (Radeon 7950 / 7970 / 280X / 7990 ) Owners Appreciation Thread on: August 29, 2021, 03:47:06 PM
I have a rig with one RX 550 4 GB, one HD 7950 3 GB and one R9 290 4 GB. All mine ETC 59 MH/s @ 398 W at the wall (measured with power meter).

Also it's an 850 W PSU, only bronze rated.

RX 550: 11.35 MH/s
HD7950: 24.46 MH/s
R9 290: 23.13 MH/s

I'm trying to buy older AMD cards because they are really cheap and still profitable, if you known how to config them.

Wow. I think something must of changed in the new ETC algo because these figures would of been very difficult to achieve back in 2016.

I had a bunch of the r9 290 and if you undervolted them to the min it still pulled 200 watts while hashing at 25-26mhs. You could give it more juice and get it to hash at 29-31mhs but it consumed way too much power.

The 7950 all pulled at least 200 watts, especially when the DAG was low and it hashed > 20mhs.

Add in your 550 plus the Mobo+cpu+fans i would way over 400 watts.
3508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can anyone tell me what are the trending Browser mined coins, that actualy trade on: August 29, 2021, 03:41:58 PM
There are CPU mineable coins but you need a dedicated miner software. Using a browser is going to be very inefficient.

Reason being that the browser has too many things which prevent it from getting the full speed. So if you got a decent CPU you can try and mine XMR which is monero.

However if you are trying to go to some public library and open up a bunch of sites pointing to your mining site then you won’t be successful. You will only get in trouble.
3509  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Monthly target in trading. on: August 29, 2021, 05:18:33 AM
Trading is one of the only professions where you can't set targets, because its not in your control, its up to the markets control. Trading is not like sales where you set a daily or weekly target of how many sales to get. Your trading performance matters how the market is doing during that time period.

In a strong bull market like in March-April of 2021 it was very EASY making money. When the market was trading sideways like for the last few months, there were less opportunities and it was more difficult.

Setting targets will only lead to losses as you will be forced to take trades that aren't there.
3510  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Any Tools Price Movement % Gain/Lost In 1 Minute Change? on: August 29, 2021, 05:14:24 AM
Yes I agree with the above posters. Don't try and trade the 1 minute chart. The 1 minute chart is more or less random. Even in the stock market which is more liquid. There are medium type of players that can easily sell or buy and they can cause a huge move in the 1 minute chart and that move will quickly fade.

This is the reason why there are so many of those Binary Option websites. They all are based on 60 seconds and if you are right you win 80% of what you risked. So it seems like a great way to trade correct? However most traders that use that method end up losing all their capital because its essentially completely random. And the binary option exchange makes money because they profit off the huge 20% spread.

My advice stick to at least 30Minute or Hourly charts, those ones are typically used by daytraders and are more accurate.
3511  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Daily Investment Compound Calculator - Newbies Attention! on: August 29, 2021, 05:12:53 AM
Its a great calculator however there is one flaw in here. And the flaw is that its VERY VERY difficult to get 2% daily profit, or even 1% daily profit. Even if you got 1% profit every few days it would of been good. Most traders cannot do that.

I remember years ago when I was a new traders and I bought those "learn how to trade stock" PDFs or courses. They would all talk about how "Markets travel lots of %'s everyday you only need to make 1% a day to become a millionaire in a few months". The issue is that, yes its true markets do travel maybe 2-3% up and 2-3% down every few hours or days. And all you need is a solid 1% and within a short period, if you compound it you can become a millionaire. Problem is this is easier said than done.

Look at how many people try and trade and fail to even make 1% and keep it. Most people try and make 1% but on a losing trade end up losing 20% of their account capital.
3512  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [GUIDE] Position Size on: August 29, 2021, 05:12:11 AM
This article is pretty informative to most new traders and can be a big help in the right direction.

However one area where I don't agree is the AUDNZD 30 minute chart that you posted earlier. Breakout trades are not good trades for new people to take. In your example the trade did work out, however most of the time whenever price hits a pivot high or low, it ends up fading at least once before the real break-out.

So most traders are either better off entering before the breakout or after the breakout on the pullback. Also the stop in your example is way too far off from the entry price. And if you look where price peaked, it lets you get a max 1 R:R which is very bad with a hit rate that works less than 50% of the time.

Other than that, its a great article.
3513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Chip shortage] Are we going to see an elongated demand in mining gear? on: August 29, 2021, 05:06:16 AM
Who knows what will happen in a year or two. The ETH hashrate hit an ATH yesterday and who knows how much higher the hashrate can hit. I am starting to think that the days of mining ETH with GPU might be going away like it did for BTC... then LTC ... then Dash .... then ZEC .... etc

Seems that ASICs are getting more and more advanced for every generation and seems that its difficult for GPUs to keep up. Look at the new Antminer E9. Basically uses 2.5KW but hashes at over 3GH/s. So pretty much around 100 average GPUs per ASIC. It would of been one thing if GPUs were affordable like in the 2016 or 2014 days however they are extremely overpriced.
3514  Economy / Speculation / Re: The arrival of new people in the world of cryptocurrency is really fun on: August 28, 2021, 04:22:42 AM
Yeah back in March-April there was tons of people that must of bought bitcoin or other cryptos. Because for the last 2-3 months, there have been tons of people saying "bitcoin is dead", "bitcoin crashed hard", "bitcoin is in a bubble" when it fact the lowest price was $28K which is still much much higher than what we were at last year or from last ATH.

Which leads me to believe that people are getting into crypto not for the technology OR long term. Most are in it for the short term profits. Hence why when bitcoin is pumping we get new threads on bitcoin talk on "how to buy bitcoin" or "how to mine bitcoin with my laptop" however when bitcoin has a slight dip there are lots of thread like "bitcoin will never be above $XXK for 10 days again" or "bitcoin is dead".

So adoption is good if its for the right reasons. However bitcoin and crypto seems to most to be a get rich quick scheme. When people don't get rich, they call it a scam.
3515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: August 28, 2021, 04:17:00 AM
I am not surprised that people are easily getting their phone SIM-swapped. I'll explain how it is here in Canada because I had some experience in the mobile cellular industry.

Say you lose a cell phone. You now need a cell phone AND a simcard.

You go to the mall and there are tons and tons of places that can sell you a cell phone OR a simcard or both. Most of these places charge something called an "activation fee". Its basically something like $15-$30 and all they do is login into your cell phone account and put in a new sim card #. So when you put that sim card into your new phone it'll work with your old number.

Now most of these places also sell the sim card. The sim card is like $5. If you buy the sim card, you can activate it for FREE yourself. So all you pay is $5. So most of these places want to activate it for you, they are desperate for this practise because its a huge revenue for them.

So they ask for ID, if you say you don't have it, and make up some excuse, "oh forgot it at home, will come back tomorrow..." they will usually say "oh, don't worry about it". Just give me "first name, last name, phone number, address" and all is well.

Not every employee does this but its easy to run into one that does this. Hence why its very dangerious using any type of SMS 2FA.
3516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 2Miners have stopped paying out on: August 28, 2021, 04:08:35 AM
I saw hoping of getting some ~25Gwei transaction on the ETH network this weekend, usually on a slow Sunday when the network isn't as conjested however doesn't look like the fees will come close to 25Gwie.

Currently looking at,
https://etherscan.io/gastracker

It seems due to Opensea which is the NFT craze is creating all this mess. People buying Punks and Rocks and causing the fees to skyrocket. Also seems like ETH about to breakout won't make the fees any lower.

So most likely next Saturday or Sunday we might get some ~25 fees confirmed.
3517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sapphire GPU are poorly built? Or just not rugged on: August 28, 2021, 04:04:14 AM
Unfortunately I also have a bad experience with the Sapphire RX480 8 GB Nitro models. Out of 24 of those cards, 4 pieces died for me. I maintained them regularly, blew them with a compressor, put the best thermal paste "Thermal grizzly kryonaut", I have a very high quality and reliable power supply. I am very disappointed. So I went back to MSI again. Now I only use the MSI 5700XT Gaming-X series graphics cards . I used to have several MSI 7950 Twin Frozr IIIs and have been mining with them for years. None of them ever died. Fans did go, but graphics cards never did.

How did they die on you exactly? Did something blow up OR did you just get a BSOD on bootup?

If you got the BSOD or they started to crash on cold start... I think I know what happened.

Most likely since you said you replaced the thermal paste, you might of pulled a little too hard when seperating from heatsink and created micro-cracks. At first you don't get issue because they are small. However on every heat cycle, the cracks get larger and larger. Eventually one day when you stop mining to do a reboot, it crashes all of a sudden or fails to boot or you get BSOD. Then you find out the GPU is dead.

I also killed a few of my GPUs this way. Now i never do the thermal paste job unless the GPU is less than a year old.
3518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD Tahiti GPUs (Radeon 7950 / 7970 / 280X / 7990 ) Owners Appreciation Thread on: August 28, 2021, 04:00:19 AM
Even if he didn't have a Wattmeter how did he measure that it was 140Watts. As far as I know there is no such power consumption indicator with any of the monitoring software for Tahiti GPUs. Maybe perhaps he was shown the current and multipled it by voltage to get a wattage. However Ive never see a software which calculates any type of power consumption for Tahiti's.

And yes they are power hungry. For ETH it used 200 Watts which is considered too much by todays standards however back in 2014 I mined with many of these 280X mining Litecoin and guess how much power they used??? For a 2 GPU rig so 2 * R9 280X the power at the wall was over 700 Watts. Even if you undervolted it still used tons of power.

Basically a single 750 Watt PSU could only power 2 GPUs.
A lot of time has passed and I could be wrong, but it was 2 power supplies of 750 or 850 watts.
For Ethereum, this was quite enough, but the memory of these video cards was 3 GB, so the R9 280X was replaced with other video cards.
I liked the R9 380 and R9 380X better because they were cold.

Yeah back in late 2015...early 2016 I had a huge dilemma. Basically the only GPUs that I was in the market for were the R9 280X or the R9 380. Both of them cost almost the same... maybe the R9 380 a little more.

Here is the thing. When the ETH DAG was very low, the R9 280X mined at like 26MH/s or so. The R9 380 mined at like 21-22MH/s. So I basically decided to get the R9 280X instead. Spent most of my budget on those... big mistake.

Why? I didn't realise that the R9 280X would slow down on each new DAG, eventually from 26MH/s it mined at 21MH/s, same speed as R9 380 however the 380 never slowed down but the 280X. Something called DAG Thrashing bug.

So if I bought the R9 380, I could of mined longer and because it was 4GB even longer that the 3GB 280X.

3519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best graphic card to mine BTC and Altcoins on: August 28, 2021, 03:53:09 AM
Seems that you dont really need to check the crypto prices to know when cryptos are pumping, all you need to do is check the "mining" section of bitcointalk and if there are a couple of new threads where newbies want to mine Bitcoin with their laptops it means BTC is pumping.

A month or two back, "mining" section was completely dead and hardly any topics going on. Nobody wanted to mine Bitcoins with their Macbook Air back then. Now that BTC hit $50K and it looks like it'll break ATH soon, we get tons of newbies who want to mine and completely skipped reading any of the various threads which provide a "HOW-TO" on how to get started and what to expect.

OP, the best GPU is the closest one and non-LHR that you can find at MSRP. If you can find one at MSRP and not LHR (nvidia) then buy it. Profitability is more or less the same. But right now is a horrible time to get into mining due to the chip shortage.
3520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can not mining ETH with nvidia GT 750M on: August 28, 2021, 03:46:16 AM
Here is the issue with this laptop. It looks and is called a Gaming laptop however looking at the form factor, it seems very slim and doesn't seem to be built for heavy duty gaming or mining. There are some laptops such as those thick Alienware laptop which got a huge heatsink for both the GPU and CPU that you can easily mine or game all day. This one however looks like it has a tiny heatsink and fan.

The issue you will get is massive heat that can't escape. What it will do is heat up your battery and your battery overtime will start to swell, eventually it'll leak or at worse explode. So sure you can mine something with this and make $0.05 a day however I don't think its worth the risk. If this was a desktop on the other hand and you had some old Radeon 6850 GPU, then sure. Mine all day with it. You won't kill the GPU or explode any batteries since its not a laptop.
