I don't know exactly when this idea was first mentioned, but I found a topic from 2017 in which you also participated, and at the time 21 BTC didn't seem like a big number to most people - although according to your calculation it only took about $40 000 to become a member of that club.

I don't think most people, myself included, could ever hope for that membership even today, even at sub 20k, but I'd like to think that at some faraway but not too distant point in the future, even 1 BTC would be some hell of a fallback plan!

I agree that it is an unattainable goal for most, especially if someone is starting from scratch, and even if you had 10 BTC it would still be a big challenge. In that case, selling those 10 BTC at the peak and then buying after a 60-70% correction would definitely be a ticket to that club.

The memories! $40,000 seemed completely unattainable to me back then, I'd just started out freelancing and accepting Bitcoin payments (but up till that year the majority of clients were only willing to pay in alts if you can believe it!).

Can't remember myself when I first heard of it but fairly certain it was in a chat somewhere, definitely not the forum.

I do look back wistfully having lived through 2 ATHs and not being able to take advantage, but no complaints. My last major liquidation was at the end of 2020, so effectively, I sold at 2017 ATH and that wasn't a bad thing at all, given I really needed the cash and I wouldn't have been anywhere close if I'd saved in fiat.

Almost half a million dollars now to buy "membership"!
2722  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Sportsbet.io ⚽ Spanish La Liga ⚽ Football Pool Discussion Thread 2022/2023 on: February 06, 2023, 07:45:46 PM
Hey! Hello! What about your thread? I haven't seen the updates for a long time, but judging by how the leaders are falling, it's you who should count the money  Wink

On the one hand, it seems that Real have already lost La Liga, on the other hand, the statistics are encouraging. We need to see the results of the second head-to-head meeting and see how Barcelona will cope with the downturn.

Appreciate the shout out as always, but I've been having real problems managing time this season. I still place bets, and still generally find room to bet against the big boys, but now almost always blindly looking at odds, and no time to compare, so I'm sticking to 2 books I can easily bet from mobile. So I no longer am as confident I'm posting value bets.

Hoping for real life to tone down this year but it's not exactly a clear path atm. Majority of my posts now are from mobile or on the move, or late at night when I'm too tired to look at odds!

Oh and yeah, I'm probably still in profit from upsets, but I'm losing much more than usual on "regular" betting (accas especially), not sure why... ragebetting because of Liverpool maybe?

If anyone knows a special for Barca treble... ping me a link?
2723  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io Betting discussion thread rev on: February 06, 2023, 06:33:16 PM
Couple of LeBron NBA specials... https://sportsbet.io/sports/sportsbet-specials/daily-specials/nba-specials/matches

but I've no idea what's going on, so is the "Other" selection for 10/1 on the "Against Which Team Will LeBron James Break The NBA All-Time Scoring Record?" worth it?

Yet another unforeseen upset for your prediction in the pool this weekend.
Do you have a ouija board letting you know these will happen? Because you had to have some kind of mystically powers to get two in a row like that one day after another in the Prem.

Anyhow, well done to you as your out of the gutter in the table where I am rated 55th and only the ones who don't put in their weekly selections anymore are lower placed than I am now.

No board. Just a predilection for upsets, renewed due to my unenviable position in the league, just 2 spots above you. It's not exactly helping me, as you can see from the round results so far! Funny thing now I'm noticing users, even old ones, going inactive across pools. Might be something normal but never really paid attention until now. Makes me think about forum retention.
2724  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🦊 Betnomi.com | Champions League Pool ⚽️ Discussion Thread on: February 06, 2023, 05:23:36 PM
Thanks for already participating guys! I really feel bad that we have at least 2 inactive users (even worried to be honest) so if anyone knows what happened with tomahawk9 and leea-1334 or how to contact them personally, do ping me as well. I'm not at all interested in getting them to come back, but want to know if there's anything we could do.

Thanks for mentioning my tool, here for reference
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5436655.msg61649395#msg61649395

This tool is good if you are just adding participants in order they join. This tool won't help if participants are able to choose a number.

In this case, where participants may choose a number, the winner is easily verified so I thought a tool wouldn't help.

I am open for suggestions if you need any tool which might help in future giveaways.

It's actually really awesome, provably fair as close as it gets (even though I didn't understand the discussions, it was for me already as good as it got even from OP).

I might drop by because crypto (outside the forum) is full of giveaways, and while hash results are the standard for the forum, I've noticed that the regular user (crypto and non crypto) can still get confused by that. So I looked at simpler variables like block fee total but noticed not all explorers (mempool, for example) show the precise amount. I'm actually not even sure if all explorers will show the same precise total but perhaps there are other things to look at.
2725  Economy / Speculation / Re: Month January 23 - the best month since bitcoin? on: February 06, 2023, 04:30:00 PM
So we might have one of the best month in bitcoin's history, but it doesn't mean it will go parabolic this year. Technically, we are in the midst of the bear market, so everything can still end up in a negative way for the next 10 months or so. If could be amazing as you have said if we are going to $35k, but I wouldn't be surprised if we don't.

If anything, it means we won't go parabolic. The year-long rally (that ends in an ATH) generally starts in the middle of the year, so if we do see the start of one this year, it'll be in 2024 we see some heavy returns to the green.

Also, it's just way too soon since the last one.

That said, nothing means anything anymore with Bitcoin treading in unfamiliar territory (widespread adoption and recognition, against a backdrop of global recession).
2726  Economy / Speculation / Re: Enough? on: February 06, 2023, 12:19:09 PM
^ Ah, I remember this Club 21. It was 2016 for me and I said, sure, I'd love to try for that, but maybe 1 BTC first -- I wasn't to know 2017 would leave all those plans far, far behind haha.

I don't think most people, myself included, could ever hope for that membership even today, even at sub 20k, but I'd like to think that at some faraway but not too distant point in the future, even 1 BTC would be some hell of a fallback plan!

Few things in football are worse than making all the attacks, getting so many players carded and potentially injured, missing a penalty, and still losing the game... to an own goal.

Wasted my time watching Forest-Leeds, so frustrating, should have gone for this game instead, but you know, who normally wants to watch Mallorca right?

Slam you must be counting your money tonight?
2730  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eredivisie 22/23 - discussion thread on: February 05, 2023, 05:43:24 PM
I know, still too early to call, but I think both Feyenoord and Eindhoven have just done Ajax the biggest favour ever today. The defending champions look like they've gotten over their rut, new manager, new drive, new valour... and we always knew those pretenders were far too weak to sustain a consistent charge.

Still hope I'm wrong, and it was an entertaining draw, but I think this is the beginning of the end of any romantic notion that Ajax was going to miss out.

Sorry guys, but yeah, it does seem there are teething problems and I'll update myself as soon as I am able to see anything.  I remind also, all winners will be made whole by me personally, in worst-case scenarios, so sit tight, you will be taken care of. Promise!

On a better note, with 10 days to go to the restart, here is an update on the Ledger giveaway =)

************

I have opened a new thread in Games and Rounds, where you simply need to indicate your forum name to enter yourself into a raffle: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5438244

As is forum tradition, raffle winners are typically decided by Bitcoin block hash results. There are even a number of new tools from guys like Bitmover which is provably fair, but I'd like to avoid confusion while keeping an element of prediction so, I'm thinking let's use Bitcoin block #777,777 (estimated 20 days away to give time to people to predict).

We'll ask everyone to pick a number from 00 to 99. First come, first served, so you can't pick a number someone else already has.

And instead of hash, we use the last 2 digits of the miner fee total of block 777,777 to determine the winner. Simple, right?

Warning: Betnomi appears to have pulled off an exit scam. Pending resolution, I'm leaving this warning here and removing their name from thread title. While they did sponsor the 2022/23 UCL pool and paid up in full, I feel this warning is appropriate to prevent further potential for victims.

Ledger Nano X Giveaway

***Open only to paying participants of the Betnomi UCL Pool

Participants of the Betnomi UEFA Champions League Pool 2022/23 are now invited for a chance to win custom-made Betnomi-branded Ledger Nano X!

Bitcoin block #777,777 -- estimated to happen in ~20 days from now -- will be used to determine the raffle winner. This coincides with the Last 16 round of games.

Rules
1. The last 2 digits of the total fee in Bitcoin block #777,777 will be used to determine the raffle result. This means the two digits in the 7th and 8th decimal places. e.g. a fee of BT 0.12345600 means the winning number is "00". A fee of BTC 0.12345678 means the winning number is "78".
2. Pick a number between 00 and 99. Simply put your prediction in the following format:
Code:
Bitcointalk username:
Prediction:
3. You cannot pick a number that someone already has.
4. You can put your prediction any time before block 777,777 is mined.
5. All results, timestamps, etc. will use data from Blockchair Bitcoin explorer. In case of a tie, results will be taken from the next blocks until winner is found.
6. Winner will be announced here. I will ship the device to you from Europe, so obviously, will need a mailing address from the winner =)
2734  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🦊 Betnomi.com | FPL Football Pool ⚽ Discussion Thread on: February 05, 2023, 03:08:11 PM
Ha! Speaking of hoping Fernandez doesn't take more time on the pitch, FPL's the only time I'm actually keeping track of players and hoping they don't do things -- typical enough for teams in betting esp on cards and corners, but now with this points system, watching players you don't even have money on? I experienced it a little during the World Cup quiz early on, but this is a different level of watching players not even important to you. Saka, for example, I like him anyway so when he looked almost like he was going to go off for the eye injury early in the game, I was extra disappointed.

Guess a lot of people were hoping Rashford would blank...

Meanwhile Leeds... Bamford (my surprise entry hahaha as a hedge to United) had a couple of looks on goal but for a lot of work, nothing. HT meh.

Not sure if I can keep up that level when new season starts but every new FPL season is learning for me.

You're definitely going to have to give some more details if you want to get more help, though from what others have said and what information you've already given: you're probably already scammed.

Are you using an app? An account online?

1. Don't send anything anymore to them.
2. Report them.
2736  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 05, 2023, 01:31:24 PM
Livarpool never disappoints, and they're already down 2-0 to Wolves, what a weekend. Nothing else will make you happy if Livarpool's downfall does not. We're bad, but Liverpool's worse; I speak for all Livarpool fans when I say Klopp must go now; the COVID 19 party is over.

Told you, didn't I? Chelsea and every other badly-performing team will not need to worry about the headlines as long as Liverpool continue our slump and bump you all off the pages.

I'm not sure I can ever blame Klopp for this, despite what it seems.

I'm with Welsh here -- Klopp bought's a lot of time and goodwill. We are here because of Klopp, Benitez was a Rafalution but Klopp brought back belief and healed broken bridges.

I know you'll say you pushed Tuchel out because it was untenable but look where you are now? Tuchel didn't get enough goodwill for bringing a trophy, but I'm still fresh off a failed quadruple memory and I can't think of anyone who can take our limping squad across the line.

Anyway, less said about it the better. Just feel like it's the ownership uncertainty and the recruitment staff we let go off that needs fixed first before field personnel... but I don't know where to start.

Too be fair I don't think Liverpool has a team that is really good. I think it was more a masterclass from Klopp to hide all the weakness and achieve what he did. His strongest point was pressing and taking the ball early, if you have only one a player that can't physically or mentally play that game, you look like Liverpool this season.

Yep! I said it before, this was an overperforming team, a sum so much greater than its parts. And such a careful balance that Klopp requires is a team that becomes psychic with its components. Take away a few and we're in trouble, take out many parts, leave the rest in that never recovered physically from last season, and this is the team that plays. Lost at sea and unable to hold the oars.

Right, we get it guys, Messi's amazing. But aren't today's games a lot more exciting?

I'm trying to make up for a bad weekend and I've went for Monaco on ML on the first game now ongoing -- thinking surely they're incentivised to make up some ground over a PSG that seems to be teetering and resting on their Argentinian talisman. So far so good, already 2-0 up. Love for Embolo, when Mina?

2738  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io Betting discussion thread rev on: February 05, 2023, 11:18:54 AM
^Yeah, avoided Arsenal losses but it wasn't like I won anything anyway. Just general bad calls across English and Italian games, problem is doing accas and only 1 leg needs to fail, but in my case wasn't even able to gain insurance back on anything. Needless to say, Liverpool was a main cause of my misery heh.

Even Spurs odds today aren't so great to make me look forward to anything!
2739  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: EFL English Championship League 2022/2023 on: February 05, 2023, 11:04:23 AM
Wandered into Championship yesterday, glad I didn't. Among picks I was almost certain to make were Norwich and Watford, Boro does seem to be doing well as is Burnley (no surprise).

Trofo effect haha. I normally watch out for new manager effects, for sure, but outside of the top leagues, unless the manager is actually someone of a certain fame and achievement, I ignore it. That said, not sure I'd put Rovers on my acca. We'll see if today goes well for me before I throw more into this.

It'd be interesting to see what the difference will end up being taking max time/weight multiplier so I'll try this soon. I see I get a Premium boost in 7 days and my Reward Points are almost ready for conversion. Is there a way to get alert for new bet offers? Or is there a particular time they get released? I'll test out even bets on all outcomes (1x2) and see what kind of odds they end up getting at the end.

@Saint-loup I don't really see all the extras (freespins freerolls) as additional to the betting though -- I'm only talking about the betting option (I do all the others casually too haha).
I'm not sure this experiment will help you to conclude anything, because real odds change over time as you know. And when you bet at a normal bookmaker using fixed odds, you are paid with odds at the date you've bet while here you will be paid with the odds of the last day, that is to say 10 days, or even more, after your bet. If you compare with odds offered by bookmakers 10 days before the event you will necessarily get different odds than the final odds given by Freebitcoin because many things happen in 10days. And if you compare final odds from Freebitcoin with final odds from bookmakers while you've placed your bet 10 days earlier you're not comparing the odds of the same bet, because 10 days before the bet was different with different odds at bookmakers and they wouldn't allow you to bet at those odds. Actually, I don't think it's relevant to try to compare parimutuel odds and fixed ones, that's just 2 different betting systems, working differently.

Sorry for the late reply, I completely disagree here. Odds always change, that's the nature of likelihood and probability, but if I compare books, I take the bets at the same day and compare odds at the same time. Why not? Everyone knows odds will be different the next day but the idea is to have a large enough sample size, exact same markets at the same time. In 10 minutes, odds will change at all bookies, never mind in 10 days. The point is to compare books at the time you place your bet.

I used to maintain a daily thread that used regular bookies, crypto bookies, and even P2P markets (not parimutuel, just p2p) -- and every option has a variable. Some have limited market sizes. Others have price boosts. Others have promos. All these count towards value.

Either way, probably not going to be able to do this experiment as I didn't get any response on when these bets get released, so not possible to easily test these bets.

All I can say is I'm almost 100% certain I'd gain far less as a casual gambler coming in to place bets on options here, than if I went to a regular bookie. I'd like to try and prove that right, or wrong, but I'm not incentivised enough to try. That's no criticism of the system here either! It's only to point out something (as a regular sports bettor myself).

Time weight multiplier? I don't remember the last time I took a bet even close to max multiplier...
