1921  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Odds, units advantage | Sportsbook | +85933 units on: March 23, 2023, 04:59:35 PM
I know it's been such a long time since I updated this (well, 4 months is long enough) but real life has become such a nuisance I've really not been able to make proper bets the way I would have liked for this thread. Nevertheless, I intend to do my best to get this up back and running.

So we start with Euros (terrible choice?) but if you've been following this then you know my predilections for teams from Caucascus and "Asia" who somehow play in UEFA.

Slovenia is just about finishing the match to beat Kazakhstan, which is normally a bet I'd take but they were at only 3/1 if I recall, so we escaped that loss.

Tomorrow, however, I got eyes on Azerbaijan, who'll do all they can to upset Austria.

100 units on Azerbaijan to WIN vs Austria @12.55 on Sportsbet. Other odds: 11.5
Bet ID: 641b644369eea000018c4f93
Units advantage: 105

Also, finally updating the totals here. We had a great Brentford win vs City (+1900), but we did lose the hedge (-100) (on a final minute Toney goal too!) so a small nick, no problem.

Running advantage after 38 bets: +3580 (+105)
All-time cumulative: +87,194
Running units after 37 bets (7W|30L): +3246 (+1700)

Scary if you're still leaving your coins on Binance/Huobi etc.

Probably also scary if you're leaving your precious coins on "decentralised blockchains" like TRON or even Binance Chain (or whatever name it's called these days).

People think these "DEXs" are non-custodial, wait till the servers running them are seized...

That's worst-case scenario, of course, which I doubt happens...

Well, I'm behind also for backing Lyon, I should have also gone Chelski for the women, huh Igebotz.

England should win tonight easily, for once I picked the away team Smiley

I picked Italy. Hoping they hurt enough from missing out on World Cup, that they want a statement of intent. CLS63 and I went completely different directions for the game, so if I lose today, I probably play for a draw...

Wait until more man start to join female football more and start winning everything.

Carefuly what you wish for Wink I feel like it's a wave of that happening in N America but not quite yet the rest of the world. I played mix team futsal a bit in my day and it is refreshingly low on drama and simulation (which you get with guys for some reason).

Just when you thought people had beaten the 1-million dollar dead horse to smithereens, another dude comes out of the woodwork -- from the McAfee era too.

Not that I don't like/dislike the guy, just thought he'd be happy he's escaped quite a lot of the storm with reasonable comfort.

I'd love for a million dollar Bitcoin sure, but yeah as said above. The more people come out and say it, the less likely it's happening. Not in this 2/3 years anyway. Maybe let's revisit 100k first?

Friend, after Liverpool you're addicted to losing money on English teams  Wink Cheesy
By the way, will you bet on Chelsea qualifying or on winning each game?

Shh, don't say it so loudly, or I might hear it. You don't want me to give up here do you? Wink

Chelsea winning first, then see how it goes the next round. Qualifying is shit odds, from my lens anyway...

I'm betting on Bayern Munich to beat Manchester City; I'd rather play Bayern than Manchester City, right now

Probably same. I might go with live with the one that goes a goal behind first.

agree for Napoli, but Benfica is also playing some good football, not sure if you watched them, but they are good
not that good as Napoli, but I would not call them out at any point from their half of the draw

regarding other half, I would not be surprised to see Chelsea in the final, but Bayern is my favorite to reach final from that half (not that I am fan, just realistic)

looking at all teams, there is simply no my teams in these 8, and I will stick with Benfica until they are out

Group stages, yeah. Portuguese teams are probably at the highest level they've been in for a while, across the board in European competitions. I'd love to see a Napoli double, and they're the most "deserving" of it. Georgian-Nigerian duo, I'd never have guessed it.
1928  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eredivisie 22/23 - discussion thread on: March 22, 2023, 04:47:00 PM
maybe they can reach CL QF, to keep same score
there is always some underdog in CL QF, this season there are few, playing in same part of the draw, so anything is possible

I hope so, in fact, if they do end up in the group stage, I'm going to put an outright down on them. Should be a fantastic 100/1 at least. Just wish somehow they'd get enough prize money to buy really good players (or keep really good ones away from Ajax).

This game had quite some match character. What's really rough is that they are also meeting in the KNVB Cup and Feyenoord could destroy the whole season for Ajax Amsterdan within roughly two weeks. The season was going pretty well for them, but it took some turn weeks ago. Also getting kicked out in the Europa League and now it comes down to Feyenoord's performance in the league and in the cup. Overall Feyenoord deserves to be where they are as they haven't lost a game in all competitions for over 20 games and the last one they lost in the domestic league was on September 18th. That's good enough to compete with Ajax.

Every Rotterdammer prays for this. I live near enough too, and even though it's not really my team I might be tempted to go share some of that anguish/joy. As I said, though, false dawns...

Never watched women's UCL, don't know if have a channel that is broadcasting that live. Where can we see today's game? I mean I have pretty much all sports channels so I must have it but I don't know where it is on  Grin

Dazn has it. World Cup was even fully free on Youtube (and I watched last season games free on youtube too, all in English, live, better quality than what I actually watch for men's  haha). Not sure if this season is the same on YT.

Never watched women's UCL, don't know if have a channel that is broadcasting that live. Where can we see today's game? I mean I have pretty much all sports channels so I must have it but I don't know where it is on  Grin

I have been watching their Euro and World cup and I must say that there are some really good players. What bothers me most is when you see perfect trough ball and then nobody manages to get on top of it. By perfect I mean measured by men's standard. In other words my eyes are betraying me since they are used to another level athleticism and that is what they miss most.

That's what I meant by off-the-ball. It's nowhere near men's football but I think it's getting there. They can cross, pass, shoot really really well, and naturally, that's what you get first improved.

Strikers and midfield would fit in perfect on mixed 5v5 too, but their keepers are still the lowest ability, in my view of watching a handful of games. Athleticism, as you point out, is probably the thing. No super bendy Buffon full stretch like pouncing cats, no Zlatan karate swings, etc. That will all improve with time, women's football has only really had a couple of decades of proper development (Arsenal in England leads the way, Liverpool is very stupidly ignoring it mostly).

IIRC Sportsbet even had deals with Estonia and Arsenal to train up their women over there.

Edit: You know what women's football doesn't have? Play-acting! Not as I've seen anyway. It's the one thing about men's football that pisses me off.

Japan win, did anyone take the outright promo for that? Would have netted quite a lot of freebets in addition to the winnings...

The spreadsheet has been unlocked, answers from strongkored are hidden because vd309 hasn't submitted his answers yet.

Regarding the Haaland question - I was trying to be a sneaky bastard Grin
I thought he'll play for 30 minutes or so if Norway will have an active result but unfortunately it looks like he won't play at all.
In that case the question will be voided.

Yeah that absolutely floored me. I put my picks in generally with whatever knowledge I had of games and form from memory. And then soon after, I read the injury news and I thought hmm, ok maybe he needs to be not even competing, but it was, of course too late to change my answer.

Void saved me, and countless others probably!

Oh and yes, I do watch women's UCL actually, probably fewer than 5 matches in my lifetime. Mentioned in posts other places but their technical ability (esp at this club level) can be quite many levels above the average. I still think keeper is the area that needs most improvement, as is off-the-ball action, but overall, they're not bad to watch at all.
1931  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 22, 2023, 12:42:46 PM
People always think being a great player means you will become a great manager and it’s usually always not the case. Some of the greatest managers have been very average players. Ferguson, Mourinho, Wenger, Klopp. I guess you have Ancelotti and Pep who played at a high level.

Gerrard and Vieira will get another chance, I actually think sacking Vieira was harsh. Gerrard was doing badly at Villa so maybe deserved it.

Yeah, I still think Gerrard needs more experience. Would love him to steer the ship, but only because he seemed such a fit spiritually (I remember even when King Kenny didn't do well on his return he still brought back a lot of cheer and was, well, he was responsible for bringing in Suarez, Hendo... I'll pretend he never brought Carroll in haha).

Yes and this its because, the greatest players have the habilitie to communicate better his born idea to his foot, but that doesnt mean them have better ideas than a average player who maybe have better ideas but he cant communicate good between his brain and his foot (im talking about neuroplasticity).

So when they become managers the good player lost all his advantadge because now its only pure knowledge and ideas, no more skills.
And the average player always have to made more tactical or learn more about correct position etc, to tape the fault of skills. So when he retire he can bring all that to the new players.

I dont know if im clear in my explanation but, if you play football at some level you can understand me.

I couldn't agree more. But there is also another ingredient and that's mentality. Xavi and Arteta had loads, they brought belief back to the squad, while aligning that with the club's values.

Holy hell that hoodie combo looks super cool. Extra incentive, not to mention a huge prize pool (not something even close to what I expected after the experience of Season 1, no?).

And I know it's only Race 2 but yeah, it's funny how knowledge and perceived expertise can have nothing to do with pool position... in my case, I feel I'm best placed to perform in: EPL, SerieA/LaLiga/UCL, F1 -- in that order.

My positions in those pools?
EPL: 49
UCL: 15
Serie A/LaLiga: 10/14
F1: 9

Figures, huh?

I'll back Chelsea here, both in betting and in predictions. Easy for me, right?
yes, but be rest assured that whatever the outcome between Real - Chelsea, Bayern- Man city we are still going to have a shitty one sided final with these draws.

Kante will be available and that gives some level of hope.

Like swogerino says, I hope we're all proven wrong and we get Napoli vs whichever else from the other side -- because that would be the dream final in the circumstances we have.

Please, teach us that lesson. At least my money won will go some way to soothe my heartache. Then go and beat City too and meet Napoli haha.

P.S. I said it long ago. Chelsea is Kante. As soon as he doesn't play, I don't fancy them.

Put in my answers with some time so I don't get another embarrassing reminder heh heh. EURO is notorious for being unpredictable, but I tried to go with country form... let's see.

No MMA pls, don't let notblox1 have his way haha but agree, should be time to add MMA or boxing to the mix (but please, not when I face off jeremypwr).

My problem in these questions is my instinct to go for huge underdogs -- not the best strat in h2h worth 1 point instead of odds weight!

Holy heck, 9 points differences between us and you got +5 score while Im on -5. This would be epic if I ended up winning but honestly if I can get a draw on this then I think Im content with it lol

Trust me, all of us are rooting for you in this case haha. It got pretty epic with Igebotz on the final score (at one point even 7-6 with the Alonso drama) but we actually settled the tie in 24 hours... and in the end, I should be happy I protected most of my "goal difference".
1935  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eredivisie 22/23 - discussion thread on: March 21, 2023, 12:30:05 PM
Hands up here, I know I wrote off everyone else and said the time to beat Ajax was gone with Schreuder out, but am so glad them Rotterdammers finally put the Amsterdammers to the sword. Pity about Alkmaar too but they were anyway no one's favourite to keep their overperformance.

It's still plenty of points though, and one can only hope Ajax doesn't remember how to chase down a pack.

the sad part is that in the Eredivisie not many teams go in the champions league, so they have to fight to stay on top if they want to go in the champions league, and even when they reach the champions league they don't get far, Feyenoord is still in the europe league so if they win the league and manage to beat rome in two legs then they will have a lot of reason to celebrate because it will have been a very productive season for them

It's not sad, it's just a reflection of the quality of Eredivisie -- if they want more spots, then they have to keep on improving (I want to say Ajax has to also stop being a feeder team to the rest of Europe but they're not changing their policy any time soon).

I already suffered a false dawn with Kuyt's winning team all those years ago so even if they do win this one, I'm not sure they'll go far in Europe (but wouldn't it be nice if they started also as Europa winners?).
1936  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 21, 2023, 10:50:48 AM
Yes he was doing good thinking in Crystal Palace parameters, but well seems like they have some fear of relegation? They are 12, and you might think, well they are safe, but clearly not, they are only 3 points away from the last position of relegation.

And for the second thing, YES again, really important the slam point and i think can be hard to adquire.

Yeah, I don't recall there ever being as tight a table as this season, from bottom to middle anyway, and it's been pretty much that way all season. I remember when Vieira and Gerrard arrived and most people thought it'd be a breath of fresh air to see such different ideas coming in. Was never meant to be, in the end.

Kompany next to come, and I hear a lot of chants for his name as Pep's successor but I don't think that would end well either.

Oh, and fitting that the only slam point won this week was FMbetbru, the Yellow Cap winner.
1937  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: EFL English Championship League 2022/2023 on: March 20, 2023, 06:30:00 PM
Blades got the short end of the stick in their FA Cup tie, I still hope they provide a valuable upset for me, but I'm not counting on it -- just hope it doesn't derail their other (more realistic) fight for promotion.

It would be pretty special if they somehow win the cup (which brings Europa) while failing to make it out of the Championship, huh? They can afford to lose 2 more games, of course, and still Boro need to win everything else, so I know it's an unlikely scenario but I'd take a bet on those odds Wink

Yeah, coming in here, seeing the post that somehow handed me the win, and then take it away again? I need some psychological reimbursement to restore my mental state. Pretty crazy for me that they'd go ahead and make an announcement before ensuring all appeal processes have taken due course.

I would have been 2nd in the leaderboard, but I'm happy with 9th, of course. *fake cry meme*

May I congratulate the 3 yellow capers, whose names all start with "s"?

I'll back Chelsea here, both in betting and in predictions. Easy for me, right?

Also somewhat disappointed with the draws, but I do feel like it could have been a bit more exciting, some missed opportunities but it's all random, of course, right? Heh

CLS63! We are paired up (and yeah, I'm counting down opponents now since it's all a 1-legged competition). It's pointless to want to meet anyone though, everyone's just as good. Have to say I fear jeremypwr if it's a week of American sports Wink

For future, and this is just a note as a suggestion, if the leagues are too small to last an entire season, we can always to the Scottish Premiership style of 3-legged seasons, and then a final section where the top half plays each other, and the bottom half play each other in single legs (to achieve at least 3 games against each team per season with another showdown in the same half).
