2721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you own 1 Bitcoin? (2022 edition) on: May 19, 2022, 02:26:26 PM
The 1 Bitcoin was and still is for many a goal, I would hazard a guess that it is mostly
unachievable for the majority at this stage.

In my mind its an even more intriguing question today than 5 years ago but asking the
question doesnt achieve much. Anyone could own 1 by buying it when it was valued at
$50, others could have got it for free for example so there are more questions which are
interesting...

Do you own at least 1 Bitcoin?
How did you acquire it?
What year was that?

...but yea they even a bit more personal

My understanding from building websites a good few years ago is to do (a lot) of
SEOsearch engine optimisation which takes a lot of time and analysis
but I'm not sure what the current practices are, social media would certainly be a part
of it for sure to promote and drive traffic to it.

Almost all website platforms and themes have some form of SEO incorporated into them.

Why dont you just list the site in your OP?
Ask people here to visit and comment in the thread what they think?

I assume its something like the "Fear and Geed" index?

Maybe it will become a tool for many.

I havent seen that tournament listed.

10 years is quite a long time to try and develop the professional game, why are players
still amateur? is there not enough finance in the game?

The most famous Argentinian player in my country is Felipe Contepomi who played #10
for Leinster and scored 1225 points over 6 years. He is still currently with Leinster as a coach.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felipe_Contepomi

Sorry for replying so late.

Look what happens is that here the sport that monopolizes everything at a popular level is soccer as it is public knowledge.
The rest of the sports are played a lot but as secondary sports.
In the case of rugby, here in Argentina only middle or upper class people play it.

This leads to few people watching or following it in such a way that it is profitable on television (although the main tournament is broadcast by ESPN) and sponsors certain big brands.

Yes obviously I know him, if I remember correctly he is the top scorer of the team (national team) or now they passed him and this second I don't remember well.

In these years the emigration of many young players to Europe for wages is even greater. Even those who are bad travel on their own, for example, to a country that is starting to want to get into the world of rugby like Spain and play there for money.

@darxiaomi - news this week is that Felipe Contepomi is leaving Leinster in Ireland and
assisting Michael Cheika coaching The Pumas.

Hopefully they can work some magic in next years Rugby World Cup. Just reading
on Wikipedia that their best result in the RWC was 3rd place back in 2007 followed
by a 4th spot in 2015, not bad performances.

Yea well that was dissapointing by Khachanov and Careno Busta....onwards to tomorrows
quarters I'm going with two bets on Norrie to beat Baez and de Minaur to reach the semi's
beating Watanuki.

I too wand to keep some "powder dry" so to speak for RG.

Over in Geneva the Quarters are scheduled for tomorrow, the one to watch is Ruud,
he is top seed (no.2) and faces Kokkinakis, also to watch is Opelka v Griekspoor.

Hopefully those top seeds make it through to the semis...

snip...

As for these HWs, I understand that they have collector's value for someone and I don't see anything wrong with wanting to have as large a collection as possible - I used to collect various things too, and now they collect dust Wink
I think of the oddball HW wallets as a future part of crypto history if you know what I mean.  The feeling I get when I see wallets like Ballet and quite a few others that either have serious flaws or just don't have any name recognition is that they're not going to be around in a few years.  I don't collect other bitcoin-related things, as they just don't appeal to me--but HW wallets do for some reason.

I wish I could make a giant display album out of the ones I've got (which isn't that many, but I pick them up when I see a bargain).  There doesn't seem like there's a great way to display them otherwise.  Hang them on my walls, maybe?

Yes as PmaleK posted you should take some nice snaps of your collection, we would like

Medvedev was playing Gasquet today and lost in 2 sets, 2-6 and 5-7 in a tie break
at the Geneva Open.

Dissapointing for Medvedev who would have wanted more game time to get up to
speed for Roland Garros next week. It also doesnt bode well for his chances there
especially when Djokovic is in seemingly top form and the threat of Alcaraz and
possibly Tsitsipas. Maybe depending on the draw he can grow into the tournament?

He admitted though after the game that he doesn't feel confident on clay surface. So for sure he will not be one of the favorite come Roland Garros. And he just come from a hernia operation so maybe that's another reason why he is not on top form.

Anyhow, lots of tennis games, maybe will try my luck in ATP Lyon Open. It's already in round of 16 so the game is becoming more interesting to watch.

Norrieno.1 seed has booked his place in the quarter final against Baez, as has
de Minaur who faces Watanuki. de Minaur has been performing well lately.

Couple of interesting matches today, Carreno Busta the second seed plays Coria and
Khachanov, seeded 5 plays Molcan, both seeds should win their matches. They
are obviously both favoirites, I have gone with Kachanov @1.5 to win.

2731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC is scarcer than gold. on: May 17, 2022, 08:36:37 PM
To be honest jewelries are the only real usage I see for gold myself. I suppose we can't wear a BTC as a necklace.
Lol... I guess we would have seen musicians with them BTC teeth.  Grin

Well, BTC and gold have got lots of differences and similarities too. More notably, we could say BTC is indid following the gold path. In the senses that, it started as money but its lack of proper used case has made it more of an asset. Gold stands an asset now which ever form it is found. You could resell when ever and still get the value.

snip...

Dont forget Gold has its uses in Medical, Electronics and Scientific areas.

244,000 metric tons of gold has been discovered to date, 55,000 tons of gold are left.

But there is still a lot of gold left in the universe. There is gold on asteroids for example. One day these will be minable. So the gold supply is not as limited as some may think.

I could start with the fact that's not even 100% certain how much gold is still available to be mined. I don't know how accurate the current estimations are.
Then, yes, gold does exist in space, and I would not be surprised if it would get attempted to be mined from there, if it will be proven to be more useful than just getting hoarded by the richer entities (especially since such a move could melt its current price).

snip.....

While I do agree that Bitcoin is scarcer than the total gold in the universe, especially according to our perception, I would not try to prove this because.. what to compare: kg with BTC, gram with satoshi, atom with.. what? since "tomorrow" the community could decide that one satoshi is too big (compared to whatever paper money) and we need more digits after the decimal point, and 16 looks just fine for the job.

I think one day 1 BTC will enter the $xxx, xxx zone then the $x,xxx, xxx HODL BTC

This goes to speculation area Wink

Scarcity wise Golds supply is indeed unknown. Nobody knows when the next vein or
large deposit is going to be discovered, and Bitcoin is obviously the opposite to this.

Why do we not compare Bitcoin to Palladium or Platinum instead of Gold?

Actually, if you search rare metals on google, Gold doesnt register!

So a little update to this thread.

From my round 10 bets in the NRL I have 1 win and 1 loss.

Rugby League - Australia

Rollbit

Wests Tigers v North Queensland Cowboys - MLvNorth Queensland Cowboys @1.31 - Taken Amount $2 - Potential Win $2.62

Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks v Canberra Raiders - ML Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks @1.24 - Taken Amount $2 - Potential Win $2.42

Next round (11) has a good few closely matched games and some which ask a few
questions of teams with mixed performances so far like:

Can the Eels6 win over the Sea Eagles9?

...and the same for the Rabbitohs8 beat the Raiders10?

Rugby Union

In the second semi final of the European Champions Cup last weekend La Rochelle
were able to come from 10 points down to beat Racing92 13-20.

I heard today La Rochelle are missing a key player, their #1 scrum half Kerr-Barlow, I
will be backing Leinster for the final anyway which is set for the 28th of May.

Leinster are currently big favourites, Rollbit have them at 1.18 against La Rochelle @ 5.0.

Interestingly as a side note, the head coach of La Rochelle is former Munster and Ireland
#10 Ronan O'Gara. He is currently Ireland's highest points scorer!

2734  Economy / Speculation / Re: What was the most deceitful speculation you ever fell for on: May 17, 2022, 11:29:35 AM
Looking back in hindsight, I don't think I really fell for anything like super deceitful. The speculative assets I bought in the past that ended up really really bad was 100% really dumb to start with, I was just being too blinded by my greed.

Someone telling you a shitcoin is going to pump to an arbitrary price is not a speculation, it is manipulation to create a pump so that they can sell their bags and get some of the money they've lost due to the previous dumps back.

As for bitcoin, if you are buying it so that it reaches X dollars after Y days then you are already doing it wrong and you are deceiving yourself.

Ah yes the good old ICO days where $hitcoins promise so much but fail
to delivernothing much has changed. So many people spent precious BTC
on useless projects, only a few were quick enough to offload at the right time.

So yea I ended up being a "bag holder" for some $hitcoins which I liquidated back
to Bitcoin at a loss obviously

In my very early days in Crypto I was deceived into thinking a "high yield interest program"
HYIP was a sound move, obviously lost on that and learned a big lesson too. Not really
speculatory but was naive.

2736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 44 countries will meet in El Salvador to discuss Bitcoin on: May 16, 2022, 09:58:42 PM
This is true, but what if anyone of the countries listed eventually got to adopt bitcoin as a legal tender this should at least make some difference in their economy by reducing poverty rate and unemployment, i think bitcoin adoption should still make some meaningful impact even on the developing countries.
No, not really. Bitcoins don't grow on trees and they wont simply become available to the population the day after they adopt it as legal tender. Sure, you can make an airdrop similarly to what was done in El Salvador. But Bitcoin won't land you a job at that auto dealership across the road if there are no jobs available, or no auto dealership at all due to the overall state of the country.

One might argue that Bitcoin offers opportunities of remote work. Sure, that's true, but so does PayPal, WU, Skrill, freelancing sites, and many other ways to get paid in fiat. There is potential for Bitcoin in areas where people are unbanked, but not if they sleep in the dirt, use a rock for a pillow, and don't even have drinking water. Those poor souls have more important things to care about than a decentralized economy.

There is a misconception going around that by simply having access to Bitcoin
guarantees you a way out of poverty. If you have nothing to start with and no
prospects to grow your wealth well Bitcoin isnt going to solve it. If by some chance
you came into some Bitcoin you would probably have to sell it in order to survive.

As Lucius posted above its interesting that all these countries and central banks
can meet together with a common goal or idea and sure Bitcoin can be a big topic
but hopefully there are more topics on the table which together with Bitcoin could hopefully
build trade, sustainability and security for these forgotten and unknown countries.

I find it quite interesting to see Egypt and Pakistan listed.
2737  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: May 16, 2022, 07:31:05 PM

in terms of Swiatek
I dont think there is anyone currently who can beat her. maybe Barty saw her potential and
decided to retire rather then face her !!!
.

Barty afraid? Nah, she actually has a perfect record against her -- though there is something to be said about Swiatek revelling in an period where the best are either retired or out of form.

...and nobody being able to compete on her level ATM.

Anyone been following Dominic Thiem's progress since he is back playing? He was
playing Cecchinato today at the Geneva tournament and lost 3-6, 4-6. He will be
rightly frustrated with his progress.

I had a mini bet on him to win today but it wasnt to be, Its frustrating because be needs
game time to continue building but if you get knocked out early you dont benefit, obvious really
2738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is everyone that got in late last year in the red now ? How bad is it ? on: May 16, 2022, 05:49:56 PM
Buying bitcoin or altcoins in the last 3-4 months is like playing with fire. Everyone who has been with bitcoin from 2017-2018 knows that it will soon explode, dump and break. I was trying to prevent my friends to stop chasing bitcoin, altcoin, or stocks but the only thing they can hear is the illusion of a "cha-ching" sound. Though investing in bitcoin is better than others, people are still suffering 30 to 50 percent in the loss. The tough time I guess. Now, what I can say to them is to hold and to wait. Patience is the key to leading us to success, no matter which fields you are working on

if they won't sell now, they won't suffer loss, right? that is, if they bought more than 30k. and if they do believe in this market, they can always accumulate more while we are in the 30k range, don't wait when btc is already in 40k or 50k. and regret that you haven't bought when it went down to 30k and below. some may be in red now considering the current market price, but as i said you won't incur loss if you won't sell. the reason why you bought btc is because you are a strong believer of this market. at some point in the future you will cash out with profits. so yes, better hold if you have no reasons to sell.
As long you wont really be selling out those floating losses then it isnt something considered to be a total loss since its not been materialized which people should really be careful on making out decisions because that would really be in result on regretting when you arent really that mindful towards your actions or on how this market behaves. If you are still that in green despite of the correction or plummet of the
market but still you do able to make yourself safe but the duration of holding is way too long or far off which means that you are the ones whom do decide whether its worth the wait or you should
have sell out before when price is playing around 40-50k and buyback when it hits up 25k.

Correct!

If you buy Bitcoin and still see it as FIAT you are going to be thinking Red and Green
depending on how the markets move. If you think in terms of Bitcoin and Satoshi amounts
in your wallet they dont change by the movements in the markets.

Secondly in times like this its best not to get hung up on the short term movements
in the markets, think medium to long term.

I put a bet on Djokovic to win after the first
few games at 1.47 so not too bad odds.
I can't believe you got odds like that after first few games. It was 1.5 before the match and after leading 2:0 or 3:0 I sort of expected odds like 1.15 or 1.30 max.

Apologies it was 7 minutes from the start time so I could have been the first game.
2740  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: May 15, 2022, 07:37:23 PM
Yeah, well. About right that the only bet I've thrown into this Italian tourney is a losing one. All over too quickly, and the Greek gods didn't help Tsitsi, he needed everything against the dominant force in men's now. Oldest man to win Roman, 1001 wins, guy even said he surprised himself haha.

At least you got the Swiatek expected clean sweep, huh Trofo? 28-win streak but it's all up again with Jabeur as favourite for RG. Ons is at 16/1 though... something in me itching for a bet.

Yea straight forward enough win by both Djokovic and Swiatek and I would say both
are guaranteed finalists for RG.

The only player able to trouble Djokovic currently is Alcaraz and in terms of Swiatek
I dont think there is anyone currently who can beat her. maybe Barty saw her potential and
decided to retire rather then face her !!!
. I put a bet on Djokovic to win after the first
few games at 1.47 so not too bad odds.
