how likely is it that an unregulated exchange in Slovenia has $9-10M sitting around on its exchange waiting to be mobilized on a Sunday?
What do you think it means? Also, a much smaller amount than 30k was bought in one gulp near the end, I think it was less than 10k BTC, so it's more likely.
It appeared to me that the last 12 - 14k of the wall was primarily scooped up by Loaded.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg9100535#msg9100535

I watched the wall from the first dump, along with the WO thread, and the timing fit.  With nobody making outright claims, it seems reasonable given his history...

Loaded says this on Monday, the day after the wall got taken down.

Actually it was within a few minutes.

HL shows insufficient data.  I see we touched .10 once again. Did it go lower?

No, low seems to have been at 0.10000001, see that 29/100 shares bid, that got nibbled. So almost almost almost touching IPO prices, but not breaking through.
The last 500 dump also hit the wall @ 0.10000001, then rebounded.  Nothing to see here  Wink

Bitcoin is about to undergo a 1:1000000 "stock" split.
essentially, they want a base unit and a second unit being 1:100 of the first.
https://bitcoinfoundation.org/press-releases/press-release-october-7-2014-bitcoin-foundation-financial-standards-working-group-leads-the-way-for-mainstream-bitcoin-adoption-2/
We already have two units: bitcoin and satoshi
Therefore, the only way to make this possible would be to recalculate bitcoin as 100 satoshi (deep inside everything is measured in satoshis anyway).
So, everyone with a current BTC will suddenly discover that he or she will have 1000000 bitcoins (officially called XBT from then on).
I think that this will put new bitcoin/XBT on a path that will eventually lead to XBT=~$1 with each satoshi=~1c.
How long it might take-maybe 20 years. If this happens, current BTC would equal $1,000,000

Coinbase has been using "bits": 1 BTC = 1,000,000 bits, 1 bit = 100 satoshi

So now the proposal wants to use:  1 BTC = 1,000,000 bitcoins , 1 bitcoin = 100 satoshi  ?

I know, this is confusing, however since they will call a base unit XBT, there is no way they can call XBT "bit" because "bitcoin" is instantly recognizable, but "bit" is not.
I think that they are aiming to have just two units: bitcoin (XBT) and satoshi. If they will try to replace bitcoin with a term "bit" for XBT, there will be a huge resistance. However, if they simply recalculate bitcoin (XBT) as 100 satoshi instead of 100000000 satoshi, then they have a chance for the transition to go smoother.

Sounds like a reasonable proposition that could remove some barriers/confusion for the average Joe.  Change is never easy, but it is occasionally worthwhile.  And hey, Cheap Coins  Grin

Adam:

I believe you are downplaying the amount of the increase - it is an amazing amount of an increase in practice, maybe even too big and will have to be limited in the future... From my understanding this is how the increase would play out:

Year 1 - 1mg - increased .5mg  = 1.5mg

Year 2 - 1.5mg - increased .75mg  = 2.25mg

Year 3 - 2.25mg - increased 1.125mg  = 3.375mg

Year 4 - 3.375mg - increased 1.6875mg  = 5.0625mg

Year 5 - 5.0625mg - increased 2.53125mg  = 7.59375mg

Year 6 - 7.59375mg - increased 3.796875mg  = 11.390625mg

Year 7 - 11.390625mg - increased 5.6953125mg  = 17.0859375mg

Year 8 - 17.0859375mg - increased 8.542968755mg  = 25.6289063mg

Year 9 - 25.6289063mg - increased 12.8144531mg  = 38.4433594mg

Year 10 - 38.4433594mg - increased 19.2216797mg  = 57.6650391mg

I think i have 70% of the regular posters here on ignore.

Edit: just checked my ignore list. 110 people on it.

I've always wondered about this statistic. Thanks for sharing Smiley

Interesting.  I've never checked before, but... 362  Cheesy  And that's only because I let a few out on parole over the weekend  Grin

So that is the answer to the question of "what if <insert X early adopter/FBI> dumps all of his bitcoin on the market at once?"

it gets gobbled up

Only took 6 hours because it was Sunday.  Still, I wasn't doing much else.  A weekday and I would have missed the fun altogether!
2750  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 06, 2014, 07:10:28 AM
And the wall...came tumbling down...

Annnd... its gone.

6 hours and ~30k coins later  Grin

Few options as i see them:
1-He's an idiot/doesn't like money
2-He's a robin hood trying to spread wealth
3-It's manipulation in which case he has to have many more coins to drive the price even lower for rebuy (very risky and highly unlikely at these levels).

Market wants to go up. For 1 & 2 it'll shoot up once the wall is gone. Oddly enough leaning towards #2

Why do you discount 3?

Last night he market sold 8K.  another move like that would trigger and extreme panic (8K alone gets us into 210 region before everyone else panics).

He then buys up new coins at whatever new low we sink to using the 5MUSD he's just accumulated in the last 5 hours at 300.

The more I consider this the more likely I think it could be....he's exhausted buyers.

He stopped selling at 275 though, and put the wall at 320.  Clearly not interested in breaking the exchange, as it could have been done at that time.  It's either an honest divestment in need of more speed than return, or a holding maneuver to keep a lid on the market for just a little longer.  That's why I am very interested to see what happens in the next day or so.  If it is a hold down, what makes it worth millions in unrealized profit?  Better than anything Hollywood could produce  Grin

So finally the stable price. Who needs Nubits? We need a huge buy wall at 299

hundreds sold @ 299.99(bid wall)  in the early hours of the Spartan Wall.

Looks like we are about at the 1/2 way point to wearing it down now (IIRC the final placement was for about 27k)

So what did the price end up bottoming out at before edging back up guys? I've been with the girl's family and driving back from out of state, haven't been able to follow this craziness at all. I do know I will be doing my part and buying as much as I can -not much- tomorrow when I can get some money moved.

So, I guess no one has $6,300,000 on Stamp to buy that wall at once?  Anyone?

Thankfully there seems to be a collective effort being made by everyone to eat through it though!  Impressive!!!  Grin

All very thoughtful though, slow and steady, avoiding the bellyache later  Cheesy   What a day's entertainment!
