As for the Monero price, right now we're currently continuing the cool drive back up to the previous local 0.0169 high. A little turbulence can be expected as we attempt to break through resistance, but you'd be wise to hang tight. Once we've broken through 0.0169, it will be an easy slingshot up to the main ATH, particularly in combination of an uncertain bitcoin and a potential Dash evacuation.

So, basically fasten your seatbelts, grab yourself a Piņa colada, stick on some Burt Bacharach, and enjoy the ride.

Buckle up.

I'm such an idiot. I bought into this suckers rally. Is it going back to $12 or is this part of a bigger movement?

Wish there was more price speculation and less discussion of 0s/2 warp

Buy a little.  If it goes up, buy a little more.  If it goes down, buy a little more.  If it goes down a lot, buy a lot  Cheesy

Feeling better?  Wink

...

I agreed with you then and I agree with you now, those masternode coins are fueling this in concert with large Dash bagholders. This is a coordinated movement. But they could not keep XMR price suppressed forever so I expect as XMR rises dash should start the inverse and then boom the big dump is going to be epic.

What I am not sure of is if the dumpers will hold in BTC or rebuy lower (probally) or move into other markets. I think that is the million dollar question.

Anyway it's really nice to see the positive movement going on!

If the dumpers are short XMR they have to buy XMR to cover their positions. This is the essence of a short squeeze.

XMR loan pool is at a recent high with very low rates, I doubt there is a large amount out right now.

I finally got around to installing win64 monerod 0.10.2.1

'ERROR - block recognized as orphaned and rejected'

It's trying and failing to update my 0.9.4 blockchain lmdb.  Incompatible?  Is there a quick fix, or should I delete and start over?

I wasn't paying attention in class  Embarrassed

I think the 0.10.x release moved from leveldb to lmdb, as a default option, and this option has now been removed. There are blockchain import/export tools you could use, or start a fresh blockchain download instead.

Monero has always used LMDB as its database (well, since the first Hydrogen Helix release (0.9.0)). If I recall correctly, the database format changed though between version 0.9.4 and 0.10.0.

@explorer, it's generally advised to resync from scratch if you are coming from 0.9.4. Thus, delete your old blockchain (data.mdb) and monerod will automatically resync from scratch.

Gave up on it entirely in early 2014, and didn't even try again until Hydrogen Helix (0.9.0 thru  0.9.4). after a hiatus I've finally got the space and connection to get running again, sync going smoothly.  Thanks hyc and all those making this easier by the day!
1965  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 15, 2017, 11:10:39 PM
Okay guys... I guess I need to weigh-in here on the whole Dash situation "big picture" given that the damn shitcoin seems to be about to break $100.

Un-frikkn'-believeable but... there it is.

So: am I butt-hurt?  Yep.  Freely admit it.  Fact is that I did HODL 50 Dash from over a year ago until just recently (like last October or November I think) when I decided to dump it and 'consolidate' my crypto portfolio around only "what really mattered".

So, yep I've missed out of this pump even though I should not have, given that I WAS holding *some* Dash just as a "hedge" until very recently and stupidly I sold it off JUST BEFORE this run started.

Back in October-ish the 50 Dash I had was worth about 1 bitcoin and now, today, it'd be at 4 bitcoins.

So that's two doublings 1-to-2-to-4 that I missed out on.  Opportunity cost of 3 BTC.  That would've made it my third-best crypto investment of all time after Monero and MaidSafe overall returns and it would've beaten my overall bitcoin performance (one doubling) by twice.

So, yeah, it sucks and I feel stupid but can't win 'em all I guess... right?  LOL.  Still ButtHurt.

Anyhoo....

The $64,000 Big Question NOW is... what to do about this situation?  Let's look at "reality" as best we can.

Dash is no competition to Monero.  We know that.

The Monero/Dash fighting is really over IF we just are thinking about the best fungible (private) crypto. Monero Wins On That, No Question, Game Over, End Of Story.

But taking a step backwards it looks to me like Dash isn't really competing on that point any more.  They've ceded that point (mostly) and nowadays they are trying to SELL their shit premine scam coin as being JUST a little BETTER than BITCOIN.  It has faster and cheaper transactions, apparently, even IF it does not have better fungibility or anonymity (which is simply also true for bitcoin).

I thought that this recent DashPump would never get to $100 but NOW here it is and it's come RIGHT ON THE HEELS of the latest, biggest, noisiest and messiest battle between BlockstreamCore and Bitcoin Unlimited (yesterday this node bug crashing shitstorm mess).

SO is it really POSSIBLE that this latest Bitcoin Disaster has driven more real money/value into... aaaaah... can't bear to say it... DASH REAL USE??

Or is ALL this really STILL just the most Epic Mother Of All-Time PUMPS by the Dashhole Insiders, trying to desperately make a Hail-Mary Pass and *buy* some expensive *legitimacy* for their scam coin at the last minute *before* the actual real-reality takes over again and consigns it to the dustbin of history?  Dashholes may actually KNOW that most likely coinbase is going to adopt Monero soon, for example, and when WE hit $50-$100+ on that fact (soonTM) it may be the end of the road for them.

I'm willing to listen IF any Dashers around here wanna try and convince me using real FACTS/DATA that I've been wrong that it's a scam coin and pump-dump here lately, just on the theory that *maybe* Dash only needs to be a little better in some small way than BITCOIN (not Monero) to justify this crazy price rise.

Really trying hard here NOT to be "emotional" about this kind of investment decision but under the circumstances it's pretty hard LOL

some interesting tweets on the subject, worth looking at IMO.

Yes & no... that's why the DSH bubble will eventually burst. The reason the price is so high, is because the big holders have a LOT of BTC to put up those buy-walls. ... It can't go on forever, IMO.... Something gotta give. Tongue

Just an insider circle jerk that will rape a bunch of people drawn in by shiny things.  Pathetic volume to drive it that high, and zero tx growth for years.  Scams work, and crime does pay if you have the 'character' for it.

But I am glad if you guys prove me wrong here...  Cheesy

Wanna make a bet for a few BTC? I say XMR will hit ATH within the next 18 days. You can bet against.

We can use a mutually trusted escrow if you like.

Game?

My faith rattled slightly with the dash short call. (I was saved when I balked at the lending rates Tongue)  But I want to believe that you are still always right Grin

Margin and overextension are never recommended, but I feel like Monero might be prepping for an epic run to currently unthinkable new highs.

Don't worry, they cancel each other out.  Similar to being late for work, you just need to quit early to rebalance your day  Tongue

Hi fam. Many of you know me but it's a secret who I am. Monero getting interesting again so I guess it's time to pay attention to this thread again. Theories as to why the sudden rise?

Relief rally now that apparent threat of COIN ETF to XMRBTC is removed. Also, anticipation of official GUI release, kovri, multisig, mandatory RingCT, and integration by Coinbase. Finally, it just ain't right that DASH market cap exceeds XMR's. Something's gotta give.

Multisig and integration by coinbase Shocked. These things are news to me. Wow.

And yea i'll agree that definitely isn't right. People say "dash has instant transactions, wow, amazing, what a big step forward". But is that a step forward? My visa has functionally instant transaction speed and that was the case long before bitcoin. Visa just achieved it by being centralized, the same way dash is achieving it. Now they would cry fowl of course. Masternodes aren't centralized they would say. Credit where it is due, they aren't a true monopoly in the sense that visa is the monopoly transaction processor on its own network, but is a cartel that much better?

Fewer entities controlling the cartel than the monopoly.  Not Good.

Ha! Pun-tastic stuff...

At least Moneroans have a sense of fun.

And on the speculation front, concerning the 'Amanda-less' coin we follow - more price action.   Rising again - having anther go at 0.014x levels, with buy side up above 2K BTC on Polo...

The spike is not over just yet.

My bids keep getting overtaken by a big wall.  I'm done chasing, so it should be a healthy spike up now  Roll Eyes
1973  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 12, 2017, 08:15:00 PM
Thanks for the responses. Very useful in my quest to determine which anoni-coin to support.

But, too bad you can't rein in the relentless trollers in the Dash thread. They are delusional to think their tactics will convert anyone on the fence (in a Dash thread, lol), and in fact, initially turned me against Monero.

I really don't know if Monero can succeed against the advantages that Dash is using so well, the marketing and user friendliness. Because a coin without a user base, a robust network, seems rather pointless. Nevertheless, it's a good fight, very entertaining. But it's not enough to have more ability. You still have to win in the ring.

If trollers in the dash thread initially turned you against Monero then maybe you should not be investing in Monero. Trolls should not have any effect on your decision on which tech/coin to invest in, just do your own due diligence using credible sources.

and the advantages that you mention Dash having "marketing and user friendliness" are not advantages over technical robustness in any way - they are purely transient. and monero has already won in the ring...with its use of ring signatures.

Truthfully, Monero is the Ring Leader  Cheesy
1974  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 12, 2017, 08:01:32 AM
I had enough monero waiting for the price to be rise i always fair enough when buying monero i don't want to loose big profit when it comes in crisis my friend who actually buy lots of monero he sold half and now he didn't get back his ROI

He sold a little soon.

$15 and rising - what a nice chart to wake up to on a Sunday morning  Smiley

Yep, its been a great weekend for alt coins. The price is looking great right now - the price is $21.86 per XMR if my automated spreadsheet is updating itself correctly. Happy Days =)

I think you'd better check that spreadsheet - it's more like $15.60 $15.66 $15.72...

You get the idea.

Fits well enough in Canadian $  Grin

C'mon people... calm the F down.  I mean I understand some of the frustration towards certain people, but damn, some of you all need to get out more.

All this in house bickering, blatant disregard to how much potential Monero has and uncertainty of what's to come reminds me of when I found out about Monero back in mid-2015 and xmr was around $0.50... the second time when Monero was fighting to stay above 0.001... just saying.

clarification Wink
1976  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 10, 2017, 10:54:15 PM
What's gonna happen now that ETF declined?

I mean in theory, if BTC drops then the xmr/btc price would go up because to get the same USD amount would require more btc.

But if they are both dropping then that sucks.

Seems like we are holding that $13 or so point. But we will have to wait for everyone to hear the news.

Large margin positions now settled, climax is past, IMO.  Not to say there's no more excitement to come (this IS crypto).

Over 100,000 XMR in half an hour. Short squeeze?

Yep.  Looks like lots of cheap loan coins available again.

So if we hear nothing tomorrow can we relax over the weekend and resume being "on edge" Monday?

They can still say yay or nay Monday right?

If we don't hear anything by tomorrow then I consider it approved.

Unless the SEC is stupid and makes a denial on Mondays.... they are going to mislead SO many people into thinking it got approved because the official deadline was march 11.... people will be buying thinking it got approved by default only to get fucked on Monday when they finally come out and say.... oops, sorry for the late notice but denied! Aren't they supposed to protect people??

SEC is tasked to protect investors, not speculators. They do have until Monday 13 end of day to deny the BATS rule change which would make COIN possible. See the rules for deadlines.

The SEC is tasked to line their own pockets, and nothing else.
1980  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 06, 2017, 10:39:57 AM

Do you think Monero will also be worth more than $100 if say after 10 years or so? I have kept mine for months already, I didn't sell it still but I've bought it when its price was less than $10. I've like to brag someday if its going to have more than $100. Its something I can't do with BTC.   Cry

This is the speculation thread.  10 years months seems plausible.

10 weeks or days seem more plausible at crypto
10 days does not seem plausible.  10 weeks is stretching it, even for me  Cheesy    Things are changing rapidly though. I expect to see a 5-10X for BTC this year.  XMR will shine.
