281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The founder of Clucoin just quit after admitting to have gambled investors fund on: January 05, 2023, 05:50:03 AM
There were reports that SBF did gamble too the money of his investors and look at what happen to his FTX.
Can you link to source for this news ?
282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin birthday reminder: You could have been a millionaire using this tool on: January 05, 2023, 05:47:29 AM
Or you could have downloaded Core and ran the miner...

Point is, even if you had 1000 BTC, would you have kept it 10+ years? Or would you have sold when it hit $1, $10, $100, $1000...?

Yes, the ability to hold even when it rose 10x, 100x or more is something few had. They were the true believers in this technology and they got rightfully rewarded for this.
283  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Meeting between SBF and senior Biden officials was for pandemic discussions on: January 05, 2023, 05:46:35 AM
Meeting between SBF and senior Biden officials was for pandemic discussions. At least this is what White House claims.

Do you trust this ?

The government would always cover-up its shady deals with corrupt business owners. Sam Bankman-Fried was very smart lobbying both Democrats and Republicans because he wanted favor from both. It is not possible that they discussed just his donations to pandemic victims. There would be other secret discussions that would benefit a key donor like SBF. But the White House has bluntly that such discussion took place but the next government would unveil the truth to the public like in the case of Donald Trump. Returning SBF's donations to FTX is commendable and others should ensure they refund the money they collected. Joe Biden should be a role model, let him send back the money he collected, maybe some investors might be able to get some or part of their money from these refunds.

I also wish that affected people get their money back to the maximum extent possible.

@OP what's your intention to create 2 separate thread with a same discussion? Bitcoin birthday reminder: You could have been a millionaire using this tool.

I smell this is a merit fishing thread, don't get tricked everyone!

It doesn't make anything to celebrate the 14th Bitcoin birthday, I would more interested to wait until the next 6 years, which mean Bitcoin already survived for 2 decades long.

The context of both threads is entirely different. If you do not agreed feel free to report the threads.
285  Other / Meta / Re: What one change would you like to see in bitcointalk in 2023 on: January 04, 2023, 05:21:34 AM
Here is one suggestion:
When a member is creating new thread, based on data he has entered in title and posts, show him suggestions for already posted threads related to same topic. This will prevent multiple threads on same topic and save everyone's time. I have seen this feature on some forums.

Today is bitcoin's 14th birthday. So here is a reminder for you. In 2010, Gavin created a Bitcoin faucet that gave users bitcoin for solving captcha. You had to solve old style captcha which would have taken like -10 seconds and 5 bitcoins were yours in return. If you did this once a day, you could have been a millionaire today.

Here is what the website looked like in past

288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Today is Bitcoin's 14th birthday on: January 04, 2023, 04:49:59 AM
It started on 3rd January 2009.

A total of 19,248,459.375 BTC has already entered in circulation which is roughly 91.66% of the entire supply ever(21 million coins).

Many more glorifying birthdays to come.
289  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The founder of Clucoin just quit after admitting to have gambled investors fund on: January 04, 2023, 04:46:54 AM
Link to his post
http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1ss7f8q

He got addicted to gambling and lost even the investors money to gambling. He plans to soon announce his next moves related to crypto projects he was involved with including Clucoin.

If you have not heard about the coin, he is coinmarketcap link https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/clucoin/

Now I do not know how many people invested in this project but whoever showed trust in it is now cheated.

Lesson here is not to trust every other new altcoin. Only invest in solid projects.
290  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Do exchanges intentionally leak information for brand building ? on: January 04, 2023, 04:38:58 AM
It's really simple. Exchanges just need to respect users' funds. If you have 1 BTC deposited on the platform, they must keep that 1 BTC there, instead of exchanging it into altcoins to run their schemes.
I am not sure but ignoring this aspect was the primary cause behind what happened to FTX.
291  Other / Off-topic / Which one person will have the biggest impact on the world in 2023 ? on: January 03, 2023, 03:20:03 PM
Which one person will have the biggest impact on the world in 2023 ?  One name that comes to my mind is Elon Musk. He does crazy things and can announce some new idea or company which can impact a lot of people.
292  Economy / Economics / Re: Twitter Crypto head and staff resigns on: January 03, 2023, 03:17:36 PM
He  is working fearlessly and like a boss - those who want to work with him can work - those who don't can leave.
I read somewhere - an employee at twitter committed that Musk joined the company and has not shared the next five years plans. What he has to do to next five year plans? the owner would have that on his mind. The employee is no more an employee of twitter. LOL dreaming about the next five years plan. What the hell.
I do not think he made any mistake by asking him this. And if Elon fired him because of this, it is not a wise decision. If you let go people of that talen level from the company because they question you, you are bound to fail one day.
293  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto exchanges charging for inactive accounts . Do you support this ? on: January 03, 2023, 03:15:49 PM
If Binance starts doing this soon, I'll sure be pulling out most of my funds there even the pennies that I've got or should I just be generous on them and keep it there for a while.
I doubt that an exchange like Binance is going to do this. They are making huge profit from the activity of users there in fees. They will not start charging for inactive accounts, that will in fact give bad name to them that they do not want.
This practice is being followed by small exchanges who are trying to remain profitable in bad times.
294  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos is living the high life; BitcoinTalk is inaccessible without JavaScript on: January 03, 2023, 02:40:00 PM
Regrettably, BitcoinTalk is ruled by an unelected criminal who sends BitcoinTalk to Cloudflare and spits on all of us while living the high life.
You can assume anything. But without any proof, it holds no weight for others to comment.
295  Other / Off-topic / Re: My story and where it is now..... on: January 03, 2023, 02:37:58 PM
As he said that he is not on drugs or take pills still he got this disease that very likely because of genetic issue.
For majority it is because of unhealthy lifestyle. This case of Yahoo is different, it is genetic. He cannot do much about it other than following his doctors advice seriously.
296  Other / Meta / Re: This forum will need explicit rules on the use of AI. on: January 03, 2023, 02:34:29 PM
I also think that forums will be affected by growing popularity of AI and chatgpt. Especially a forum like bitcointalk where users are rewarded for posts if they are in signature campaign. Some people will try to game the system. There can be arrangements made to combat this but it will be huge load on forum staff and resources.
297  Economy / Exchanges / Crypto exchange Kraken to stop operations in Japan on: December 28, 2022, 11:59:54 AM

They might not have been comfortable with the country stance and moves in regard to crypto. Good news is that users are given sufficient time to withdraw their assets.

298  Other / Off-topic / Re: My story and where it is now..... on: December 25, 2022, 02:43:06 AM
It is too painful to read this. But I guess this is what life really is. I still hope that you fully recover from all this and live a peaceful and healthy life. I know you are strong enough to be able to do so.

One more thing , I do not know you personally but I knew that you managed so many campaigns for so many years. Never thought that you might be having so many problems in the background. I do not know heart specialists but if you need some reports checked or some general information, I do know some general physicians who will be happy to assist for free. Please let me know if any such information is needed.
299  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Poll] What are the safest platforms? on: December 24, 2022, 01:18:57 PM
My vote from this list are for Binance and Kraken. I do not trust all of the news articles and the negative propaganda being written about Binance. CZ has been bailing out platforms in the cryptospace that are at risk of bankruptcy or those that have been bankrupted already. Is this the activity of company that is at risk to be bankrupt? Head scratching if you say yes.

On Kraken, it has been online for a very long time without problems, without big scandals and I reckon it certainly will continue to exist without problems and without scandals.

Do not trust any exchange with funds. We need to learn from the past because history repeats itself.
