Zencash (now known by the terribly bland "Horizen") recently decided to "de-prioritize" forking off the Equihash ASICs and that, of course, spurred a lot of rancorous debate in their ANN thread. But then things really took a weird turn with this post: Both of them will find their place in a jail. What can these guys do for the community? Nothing. My fellows are trying to track them and report to the relevant agency but they struggle to find out what their faces look like because u never know who u run after and in the final end it may turn out that the their faces were surgically changed right before the point when the escape took place.
lolwut?

... Unlike other cryptos that are beeing harvested with ASICīs, like bitcoin, Litecoin, Dash, they are already establish cryptos with daily trade large volumes, and price is not much affected directly by mining and mining sales. ... The project was good untill a week ago, when ZEN team decided not to do anything about ASIC problem in they where involved... ...
Yep, I totally agree. Another privacy-oriented project I have been involved with practically since its inception is DERO, and just like ZEN, that team kept saying it would fork off the ASICs developed for its PoW algo (CryptoNight) right up until the day they announced they wouldn't (also for "security" reasons), which was June 23. Take a look at the price action before and after that fateful (or fatal) announcement to see what kind of ride you are in for if you choose to hodl your ZEN: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dero/That chart is a perfect depiction of most of your passionate supporters abandoning your project: an 80% drop in price until it is barely over the cost of mining it. This is also a classic example of how ASICs tend to be a lose-lose for miners and coin projects, with only the manufacturers coming out ahead.

... My request to all member kindly use your own intelligence, don't be fool. Excellent advice! I have to ask, though: when will you be following it yourself? My account got compressed, already messaged many times but no reply. ...
Oh, this is easy to fix. Just digitally sign a message to Sir Thermos Cat with your BTC address asking him to let some of the air out of your account, then it's Winner-Winner-Chicken-Dinner time!

Meh, the browser extension/VPN is in beta; problems are to be expected. I'm not a big Chrome fan, but I'll be trying out the FF extension as soon as it is released and will even play around with providing an exit node. Honestly, it's just good to see progress on a real product for a change, even if that progress is a bit bumpy.

Look, Sir. You can choose to believe whatever the hell you want to believe. BOTTOM LINE: I've been in this business for over three (3) Decades [In and out of the military] and I KNOW what the hell I'm talking about. You're NOT QUALIFIED to even make such FLAT STATEMENTS you're making. IF you don't even know what Longitudinal and Metallic currents are, YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO COMMENT.
I thought you were full of crap, too, but after reading your explanation above I see you are just using obscure terminology. The more generally accepted terminology is "common mode current" for what you are calling "longitudinal current" and "normal-" or "differential-mode current for "metallic current." BTW, I'm none too pleased with the direction ZEN is taking these days, too, so thanks for speaking up.

VERY NICE LOOKS PROMISING!
original post And I just nailed this dumbass for plagiarism after checking their history and found this suspicious post: Banks are just like other businesses. Their product just happens to be money. ...
I'd warn bots and spammers not to even think about posting to this thread, but, well... we all know they don't read anything in the first place.

What does the 400 error code mean in the Arizen wallet? I'm trying to send ZEN from one z address to another and I keep getting this response even when I set the transaction fee to a rather generous 0.1 ZEN. I want to move the entire balance, but the same thing happens even with lesser amounts.
Hey @MagicSmoker Try to spend less than the full amount you have and set the fee lower because it can happen if the transaction fee is too high I was skeptical that a lower transaction fee would help, but I tried leaving it at the default value of 0.0001/0,0001 ZEN and that did the trick, so a merit for you!

... on 27th August, as we have announced on discord and telegram, we have updated the frontend. ...
I figured something like this must have occurred. Everything is working fine once I put in the new web address. I would ask that you update this thread whenever you have important news in the future, rather than rely entirely on chat platforms.

Looks like there might be some trouble with the MUSIC pool and/or web interface as the latter shows the last block was found 1 hour ago and it is refusing to update miner stats.
The pool seems to be working fine, it's just the web site that is not updating (still). More specifically, there is no response when I lookup my wallet address.

To be honest I have forgotten [the scammer's] profile as he scammed for even a small amount and I was quite surprised of how he could spoil his trust for such small amount . ...
Lol, bullshit. You are outraged enough at getting scammed by a green trust member to post about it here, but can't remember who that member was? It seems much more likely that what you are really butthurt over is getting negged for offering a paid ICO bumping service. Is it actually possible to mine this coin with a simple laptop? Even if it's not profittable, could it make sense if the price in future will shine? I really believe in this coin
Nah, it's not really practical to mine any coin with a laptop - even if it's a powerful gaming laptop like an Alienware or the like - because of a greatly limited ability to get rid of heat. Furthermore, DERO uses the original CryptoNight algo for PoW which has been totally taken over by ASICs, so it isn't really practical to mine it with a powerful GPU rig, either. Best to just buy it outright while the price is still cheap.

... It depends on the Mod handling it. Sometimes they get banned, but the last time, after I spent an hour reporting 1-200 homograph spambots, most of them only had one of their posts deleted. That's a complete waste of time, and I haven't reported any homographs since.
Hmm, that's precisely what I want to avoid - single post deletions instead of banning. I seem to recall someone here (iasenko, maybe?) proposed adding a rule forbidding the use of homographs but I guess that hasn't gained sufficient traction yet. Seems like a no-brainer, though, as there is no valid reason to write an English word with one or more non-English/Unicode characters; the only possible purpose is to evade plagiarism detection.
|
|
|
What's the most efficient way to find homograph plagiarism? I found a post earlier that seemed like plagiarism but when I searched a phrase from the post on google it didn't find any hits, but it did suggest that several of the words were spelled wrong by underlining them with red squiggles. When I completely retyped the phrase I was then able to find at least one other exact match on the forum, so I then reported the post with the link to the other post that matched it. So, mission accomplished, but it was a pain to do.
I also noticed that simply quoting the post in question also highlighted several of the words as misspelled, even though they looked to be spelled correctly (e.g. - any, agency, of) and that got me to thinking that if I could merely report the use of homographs that it would save a lot of effort.
P.S. - thanks for catching my post about lima. earlier, LoyceV; I wasn't sure whether to report him/it/her or not.

@lima.
Please, shorten your quoted posts. Just delete part of the quoted message and replace it with something like ~ snip ~.
lima. didn't actually write anything; just quoted the entire OP with a comment from someone else to make it look like something was said. So, this is either plagiarism or, at least, a zero-value post.

I think banning for text spinning can set a very dangerous precedent, its not plagiarism and some innocent posts may be flagged false, just my opinion. How do you even know about text spinning? ... Yep, same here. I didn't even know text spinning was a thing until I read about it in your report plagiarism here thread. I wouldn't mind seeing all participants in the PRiVCY spam campaign banned too, the post quality is as bad as DeepOnion was.
Totally agree. I've also been reporting a lot of ingotcoin sig spammers lately; another campaign hiring the dregs of the forum.

Well then light me up. What is the problem if people giving merit to a merit discussion while the discussion itself is great, bring a new content, use a research to make, take a time to make, and has a lot of engagement with other members? ...
The problem is pretty obvious I would think: this forum is called bitcointalk, not merittalk... Merit is a system/feature on the forum, and giving merits to others for talking about merit - while being the very definition of meta - kinda misses the point of the forum overall, which is to discuss bitcoin and crypto in general, not merit. Like Branko and Samarkand, I'm not commenting on your posting quality or whether you deserve any/all the merit you have received, so quit taking this personally. It really isn't about you.
|
|
|
@Branko and @Samarkand
If you guys want to bash me about my merit that is received in Meta Section, then it is okay for me, i get it with my style and my work, so i hope you guys dont mind it like this. ...
You totally misunderstood the point Branko and Samarkand were trying to make: namely, that there is a problem with the merit system itself if the most merited posts are on the subject of merit. I've also received most of my merits from posts here on meta despite that they constitute a small fraction of my post history and just as with Branko, I find this somewhat disappointing. Unlike Branko, I don't care all that much, since my only motivation for achieving a higher rank is to finally be able to wear my favorite avatar, a thumbnail of Banksy's StarWarsPulpFiction.
