281  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading futures with 20x leverage... what a rush. on: November 21, 2014, 09:09:10 PM
I love how OKCoin.cn practically has more volume (and hence liquidity) than every other exchange put together, but half the people here don't even know it exists. They need to work on their marketing. First step should be paying bitcoinwisdom.com to put them up top instead of Huobi, which is like the 3rd largest Chinese exchange and isn't even relevant anymore.

You should try leveraging your account once you get a VIP level, too. Trade with 20x leverage while your entire account is leveraged up to 2x (if your VIP level is high enough).

I really need to use that OKC referral program like you instead of paid signatures. Every other post of mine I'm spouting off about how stupid people are not to be using OKCoin.

Something is wrong with my signature.  I need to redo it because it is like people don't understand it is a affiliate link to click.

Wow didn't know you could 2x your account and then 20x leverage on top of that... wow. Yet another game changer... although 20x against norm was plenty Cheesy.

Let me know on that shot... We are good to rock and roll here any time.

Fees are minuscule, which is why I haven't used it. Even with 50% of the fees, I doubt it's that much for an average referral. However, if you go to the leaderboard, you see a guy who has earned nearly $15K from referrals.....so maybe you just have to refer the right people.

282  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: OkCoin Account hacked on: November 21, 2014, 08:51:43 PM
Hey, I'm really interested in this case. So the person who got access to your account, knew your OKcoin username and password, and got an access also to your phone, wright? But, thanks God, he (or she) had no access to your e-mail to click confirmation e-mails.

As far as I know Google's 2nd-factor authentication is OK, and in this case there was no problem with some kind of weakness in technologie itself, correct? I'm not using Smart phone at the moment for 2nd-f authentification, but special PC only for making coin transfers and no other purpose. Of course there is no any mobility possible Smiley, but somehow I believe that it is safer than nowadays Smart phones. Who knows..
The issue was someone in real life trying to rob him. He probably had access to his email, but was either to stupid to realize he needed to do that or changed his mind.

OKCoin allows Google Authenticator, SMS authentication, a password for logging into your account, an extra admin password, email confirmation, and saved withdrawal addresses. All those security features are possible at the same time to protect your account from theft. You should use them, but if you aren't, you'll probably still be safe with two good passwords on the account, a good password on your email, and reasonable browsing habits combined with a non-Windows OS.

284  Economy / Speculation / Re: I am very disturbed when prices are always up and down on: November 21, 2014, 02:26:49 PM
I was talking with someone the other day and I said I expect to see bitcoin fall to only a few dollars in value someday. So, the person replied, "So you think Bitcoin is gonna tank?"

No, just because I think we'll see a single-digit bitcoin sometime, doesn't mean "Go directly to single-digits. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 bits." We may bounce to $500, bounce down to $300, bounce up to $2,000, $20,000 whatever - Bitcoin is not going to disappear tomorrow.

I have to imagine things 15 years from now in 2030. Everything will be so different. And I have to ask myself, "is Bitcoin still going to be a thing? Will this 20-year old concept still be at the forefront of payment technology? Even Satoshi said it himself - Bitcoin will either be one of the most important components of the global financial system or it will be nonexistent and obsolete.

Most ideas do not succeed. It's so hard for a new technology to succeed, but so, so easy to fail. For something to succeed, everything must go perfectly. For something to fail, only one thing needs to go wrong.

Enjoy Bitcoin while it lasts. It's an extraordinary opportunity and an amazing technology, despite already beginning to show its age. Maybe Bitcoin will be replaced by a better cryptocurrency or maybe cryptocurrencies will be pushed out of the mainstream by easier technologies. Statistically speaking, one of those two things should happen.

285  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Payment Recieved scam on: November 21, 2014, 02:00:43 PM
You would think that if someone is going to send thousands of spam emails they'll at least check their spelling.

The biggest issue with this scam is that anyone stupid enough to fall for it likely doesn't have very much BTC. Kind of a waste of time to send thousands of emails just to phish a few guys with .05 BTC in their wallets.
286  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do i sell a large amount of holdings in a low volume market ? on: November 21, 2014, 01:56:50 PM
Sell on OKCoin China, where the volume is enough for just about anyone. Bitstamp is just as antiquated as Mt. Gox.

PayPal is reversible. Duh.
288  Economy / Goods / Re: Cracked Iphone 6 on: November 21, 2014, 10:53:23 AM
99.9% scam.

If it is why would he try sell a cracked one as opposed to a brand new one? People are obviously going to want to see a picture of it regardless but even more so to see the extent of the damage.

Because warning bells would definitely sound if he was trying to sell a brand new phone for much less than it cost, this way he's selling a $841 phone for $350 with a cracked screen but still works perfectly so some will see as a bargain. If the invoice is real then the phone could have already been returned and a refund issued. There are also loads of scams about at the moment involving amazon refunds.

Facts: 9 day old account, no photo, no mention of escrow, easily faked invoice.

Could be wrong but wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't log in again or a mysterious newbie account buys it Wink.

He doesn't even have to fake the invoice. He can just purchase it on Amazon and then cancel his order before it ships, without it ever costing him a penny. Amazon does not charge the customer until the item is being shipped (for both legal and customer service reasons), so you can literally purchase something on Amazon with random credit card details and you can still get an invoice/receipt.

289  Economy / Goods / Re: Cracked Iphone 6 on: November 21, 2014, 09:34:48 AM
That doesn't prove anything. I could create a receipt like that in 30 seconds without spending a nickle. You're going to need to post a picture with a username or timestamp for anyone to take you seriously.
290  Economy / Speculation / Re: Whats causing the sudden fast price rise? on: November 13, 2014, 07:24:52 AM
Bot on OKCoin and everybody just followed along. It's entirely irrational... but can't short into this type of volatility. It's nuts.

Jesus, so go long.  FWIW, this is how Bitcoin goes up.  It's easily more of a mind blowing shit show than the nice little short fest all you bears have had the pleasure of the past 10 months.

It'll climb some ungodly percentage, the holders will rejoice, and then it will bleed off for months.  Consider this your first foray into the up swings of Bitcoin.
Hit the nail on the head.

The market is controlled by traders with large bankrolls, not small-time bitcoin enthusiasts. Some people or a person with a large bankroll is buying a lot, for whatever reason - it's really as simple as that.

Most of the buying is originating from OKCoin, which is only natural, considering it's the largest and most liquid exchange.

So if they buy big surely later they aim for a profit or they have a plan for the coins right? Its at $543 AUD and rising fast still... this morning it was $439... Thats crazy in 24 hours!

Chinese whale doing something strategic. Purely for tax/legal reasons or buying both "normally" and with leverage in order to sell into the rally he sparked at some point (and profit).
291  Economy / Speculation / Re: Whats causing the sudden fast price rise? on: November 13, 2014, 06:32:40 AM
Short squeeze / manipulation on Bitfinex.  It will be in the bitcoin news sites once we surge higher.  It was inevitable.  That, and the self-fulfilling prophecy of what could happen after Silk Road 2.0 closed, coincidentally 1 year after it opened - a bit strange, don't you think?

Also, maybe that Russia is removing penalties on bitcoin.  And maybe that Russia/China just made an oil agreement that could hurt the US dollar.

Short squeeze charts: http://bfxdata.com/bitfinexLiquidityBTC.php
Bitfinex has been trailing OKCoin by a very significant amount the entire day. They're just been reacting to the rest of the market. Volume today on OKCoin was huge and not overly manipulated - somebody bought a truckload of coins.
292  Economy / Speculation / Re: Sell off is imminent? on: November 13, 2014, 06:17:36 AM
I think a crash back to the mean would make good sense... this move to 480 was just to knock out short positions! Now that they are liquidated heading back near 300 makes sense but bitcoin doesn't make sense yet so we'll see loll.

Def made a nice chunk on this upward move though, awesome stuff!!

Shorts that were open yesterday closed a long time ago. We literally went from $360 to $485 in a day - do you really think there were many people who kept funding their short positions all the way from $360 to $485?

Completely depends on how much you are trading with... to be wiped out of your position over less than $100 that means you had 5-10coins and used full margin with no side money
It really just depends on your strategy and the way you trade.

There's way more volume on OKCoin futures (not feeless, volume is relevant and real) than Bitfinex. Since the only exchange which really had an affect on the market price today was OKCoin, we can analyze this based upon what was going on there. Interestingly, OKCoin itself reached $485 or so, but futures never really surpassed $475 for anything more than a few buys, despite leading the way most of the day.

Anyone who isn't taking a long-term approach and still kept leveraged shorts (unleveraged shorts or barely leveraged shorts, à la Bitfinex don't really count)  in the entire day has brass balls and a brass brain. Right now we're at an interesting spot because the long positions have slowed down and are now trailing the market price. (Potentially indicating the big boys are done buying for a little while - one can assume that a whale will take long futures positions prior to going on a buying spree like this, to minimize slippage or even potentially profit from the price increase throughout the day.) Regardless, I still think it's a bit spazzy and stubborn to short today, even now - we had the same slowdown we're experiencing right now several hours ago at around $430, before continuing the rally.-

"someone can easily get 30 BTC "
The chances of hitting a 999x with 0.03 BTC is at 0.003%. So its definitely not an easy task.
It doesn't take any real work though, so it's easy. That's his logic.
296  Economy / Gambling / Re: Best Bitcoin Gambling affiliate Programs on: November 11, 2014, 10:07:48 PM
This isn't gambling, but OKCoin.com's affiliate program isn't bad. 50% revshare, which is pretty solid, especially considering they're one of the only exchanges with a decent affiliate program.

tomatocage, haploid, dannyhamilton, loureed.
I wouldn't trust LouReed more than any general reputable member, personally. He does a lot of trades on here, but what else has he done to earn trust? The dollar figures on all his trades are pretty moderate. Not that he has done anything wrong, but would you feel comfortable sending him 1,000 bitcoins? (If you had 1,000 bitcoins.) Or 100 bitcoins? 50 bitcoins? I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with any of those.

I'd trust dooglus with any amount and most of the guys mentioned in this thread for 4 or potentially 5 digits. Once you get above that, I have to think some people are just going to decide to just cash out.
