302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Killer Features for a Next Gen Cryptocurrency on: December 03, 2013, 06:25:44 AM
It depends on the quality of the answer. I've been paying a lot of bounties these days Smiley I'm considering launching an altcoin after seeing the success of my last venture (protoshares is at 24 million market cap in just a month). I want to test a bunch of ideas and new technology that's materialized over the past 4 years. It really is refreshing to see how fast this ecosystem has grown since the early days.
303  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Killer Features for a Next Gen Cryptocurrency on: December 03, 2013, 05:56:28 AM
Alright, let's play the hypothetical game that I was to invest a large sum of funds (1000 bitcoins) into the development of a revolutionary new cryptocurrency. What features would you like to see in it? What problems need to be resolved? What annoys you most about Bitcoin.

I really do appreciate the hard work everyone submitted. The goal really was to find a designer that has a style most similar to my taste. It's more of a preference thing than anything else and 11 really connected with what I want. Thus, I didn't want to have a drawn out contest.

No, it was never designed to accommodate that use case.

What academic level will this book be geared toward? Is it pure economics, or will there be any discussion of bitcoin's social-political impact? I ask these questions because I might want to purchase a copy when it's in print, especially with such a snazzy cover. Smiley

It's going to be a comprehensive intro to Bitcoin gear towards curious adults with at least a high school education. I'll make sure you get a signed copy.
308  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: 1 Bitcoin Bounty Contest for the Official Bitcoin Book Cover and Symbol on: December 01, 2013, 06:36:03 AM
Hi all apologies for the delay and no I wouldn't burn my rep. I was in discussions with the book's author and there were some delays on that front. I really love the design 11ams has done. So instead of having a contest here is what I'm going to do. 11 you win the bounty. I'll give you 0.75 bitcoins for the cover and another 0.25 for all the necessary polish. Contact me over skype Charles_Hoskinson. Everyone else who posted a cover, post an address here and I'll pay you 0.03 bitcoins for the effort. Thanks for participating and sorry about the delays

(Clarifying edit) no more submissions  Grin

Peter doesn't seem to understand that information actually has value. He makes me a sad panda.

Futures contracts exist under the same structure and can be purchased years out. Imagine buying oil futures for 2017.
311  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: 1 Bitcoin Bounty Contest for the Official Bitcoin Book Cover and Symbol on: November 19, 2013, 03:29:28 PM
11ams, I truly adore what you have designed it. It is amazingly creative!
312  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: 1 Bitcoin Bounty Contest for the Official Bitcoin Book Cover and Symbol on: November 19, 2013, 12:20:36 AM
Yes the contest is still open. Please make submissions prior to 11/21/2013. The top 3 will be moved to another thread and a voting contest will be held. The best voted candidate will receive 0.75 bitcoins for the cover and logo and another 0.25 to polish the cover with all the necessary fine details (author names, publishers, etc).
313  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The truth about the BFL 1000 BTC fund? on: November 17, 2013, 08:40:37 AM
You expect BFL to be involved in anything other than misery, lies, damage to the community and bitter insults? This is yet another house of cards built to attempt to avoid the inevitable faith of all snake oil salesmen.
314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / It's Time for a Fungibility Talk on: November 15, 2013, 02:41:13 AM
Given the recent developments:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1qmbtu/mike_hearn_chair_of_the_bitcoin_foundations_law/

http://www.forbes.com/sites/kashmirhill/2013/11/13/sanitizing-bitcoin-coin-validation/

I'm wondering if the time has come to seriously examine the issues of blacklists, coin taint and anonymity outside of an academic or would be nice to have discussion. When I entered the ecosystem, my concern was fiat to cryptocurrency conversion and now PAUV, Mastercoin and BitShares are running well as funded evolving projects. I believe the next issue that needs to be resolved is the fungibility issue.

My hope for this thread is to start a discussion about fungibility, where it is threatened and the current technology that can ensure it. Like the Project Invictus thread that resulted in a VC funded company, I'd like to find something that makes sense and get it developed.

315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coin Validation misunderstands fungibility and could destroy bitcoin on: November 15, 2013, 01:58:58 AM
We will  survive and  get stronger. Bitcoin is an idea. Nothing is stronger than ideas that are necessary for both freedom and liberty.
316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coin Validation misunderstands fungibility and could destroy bitcoin on: November 15, 2013, 01:46:00 AM
As a cryptographer who worked for a government agency that shall remain nameless, I agree completely with Adam's statements. Fungibility is a core tenet of our ecosystem and attacks upon it present massive challenges for us.

We need to take this threat seriously and react quickly with both innovation and education.

Sorry all for my tardiness. I've had some health issues that have really slowed me down, but I'm feeling better now thanks to some good stomach meds. I really like newflesh's symbol , but it needs more detail and color. Perhaps get a gradient and some black?  duxZero your cover is really amazing . I love the use of color and the simplicity. Keep working on it. Bitcoinomics needs to be the largest element of the title. Remove the bitcoin where you have placed it and move the symbol somewhere else. I agree that it needs to be in the cover somewhere, but just not there.

For the second versions, really zero in on what dux has done. I like elegant simplicity. It's hard to get right, but once you see it, you love it. On an interesting note, it appears that the bounty is now worth 400 bucks Smiley.

Do you have something in mind? Text style? Color scheme? Anything would help.

The book is a comprehensive introduction to the bitcoin space. It also will be used by a university for courses thus something somewhat conservative, yet reflects our cryptoanarchy roots.

Quote
Yes it seems a good idea to think ahead on your look/style, so that you can end up putting out lots of books all clearly related, like the O'Rielly (sp?) bunch of books on programming and the for dummies books and so on. A look you can carry over through book after book to lead to a nice shelf of books all clearly from your reputable publishing company / education project.

-MarkM-

Exactly, this is kinda the beginnings of a visual brand and I'd like to see what the community can offer. I'm open to most ideas and I'm really excited about the creativity.

Quote
I'll give it a go when I have some free time. A few specifications would be nice Smiley

Scale to Folio, Quarto and Octavo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_size. Use vectors. No visual brand has been established thus use your imagination and we'll work together to get there.

Quote
PM me a some more detailed information like the color scheme and what message you would like to bring across in the design.

I can have a design made within 24 hours for you.

Blacks and blues are nice, imagine a book containing all the information of Bitcoin within. The bible of the movement that will be referred to as the Bitcoin book. What would it look like? What should it feel like. What's the texture.

Quote
Any chance you could give us the dimensions for the book and any colors/themes you have in mind? Thanks
