3041  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BRC-20 needs to be removed on: June 07, 2023, 04:56:34 PM
I also don't think taproot is what enabled the current issues as much as segwit, but what do I know?
Considering how this attack has become possible by exploiting an oversight in the Taproot script validation rules, this is a Taproot related issue not a SegWit related one.

Is that what made it possible?  I'll admit I haven't looked into the technical aspect of this as much as I should have, but I don't believe what you're saying is true.  From my understanding (and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) it was segwit that enabled this "exploit" but it was taproot that made it so cheap it was feasible to engage in.

So from my perspective, the only way I could get behind a boycott of BRC-20 would be to also remove the Lightning Network, which I believe is guilty of the exact same crimes of Ordinals, but since it is patented tech by Blockstream and Blockstream basically runs Core, we are all just supposed to blindly support it.
3042  Economy / Exchanges / Re: No impact of SEC freezing USA Binance assets on: June 07, 2023, 04:52:34 PM
https://www.cnbc.com/2023/06/06/sec-asks-for-emergency-order-to-freeze-binance-us-assets-anywhere-in-the-world.html

There is a shocking development where SEC asked to freeze Binance assets. However, the immediate effect of this news was not negative. Bitcoin prices and other coins also moved up even after this news. It shows the trust people have on bitcoin. Those who were investing casually are already out of the scene. The current holders have got strong hands and it means that prices for good crypto coins will only move up from here.

When I initially read this news I thought that the SEC was going after Binance with this asset freeze.  That would have been big news.  If they're going after Binance.us, that basically means nothing.  Nobody uses Binance.us and I can't imagine they have enough funds being held to matter.  It does display a little bit that the SEC has limits of what it is capable of doing.  I'm sure their main target was Binance, but had to settle for some tiny company that licenses their name instead.  Honestly, Binance.us imploding completely would hardly be news.  It does show the SEC is continuing to ramp up their attacks against crypto though, which I guess is concerning.
3043  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RTX 5090 and others on: June 07, 2023, 04:37:33 PM
i think rtx 5000 series focus on add AI chip for process AI work, DLSS4 maybe it not make different for mining.

If AI does become something that utilizes your local GPU power to process information, I wonder what effect that will have on the mining market for GPUs.  Will it be a rising tide lifts all boats scenario, or are current graphics cards unable to perform AI tasks at a decent rate?  I'm curious, but it appears that the market is equally uncertain about the future of AI.  One thing it does seem to be indicating is that the GPU business is going to be extremely more profitable in the coming years, as P/E ratios for GPU companies, specifically Nvidia have gotten a little crazy.  I think Nvidia would have to make 20x more profit for their P/E ratio to be anywhere near reality in the current environment.  In short, people are REALLY bullish on AI.
3044  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can anyone Predict What's going on crypto market? on: June 07, 2023, 04:33:45 PM
Predicting the day to day action in crypto markets is a fool's errand.  Nobody knows what traders are going to do one day to the next or what news will spook them vs excite them.  However, when you take a step back and look at Bitcoin as a 4-year cycle with ever lowering supply and increasing demand, and it becomes very easy to determine where the price will be in the future.  As Bitcoin establishes itself as an investment worthy asset, it is going to go and has already been on an amazing ride of price discovery.  I personally think that will ultimately take us to $200K so long as we keep future FTX frauds out of the space.
3045  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: June 07, 2023, 04:27:41 PM
Those who are expecting to see Herro, here's some news for ya all.

Tyler Herro still not cleared yet to return to Heat lineup

Quote
Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro has not yet been cleared to play in Wednesday’s Game 3 of the NBA Finals (8:30 p.m. ET, ABC), coach Erik Spoelstra said Tuesday.

“I don’t want to be Nostradamus right now. We’re taking it one day at a time,” Spoelstra said. “I know that sounds like a cliché. He did the practice with the group … we’ll meet with the training staff later on today and probably tomorrow, and we’ll just continue this process. He has not been cleared yet, so that’s where we are, but we’re encouraged by the work that he’s been doing.”

At least everything is clear now, but there haven't been any changes in the betting spread. Most popular sportsbooks still have Miami at +2.5. The spread is relatively low, which shows the respect the bookies have for the Heat. When some thought the Heat would be swept, they managed to steal a game on the road. As a result, there are now bettors who believe the Heat will surprise everyone again.

Regardless, both teams had already made history I believe.

With the spread down to 2.5 and Denver possibly feeling like they could be letting this one slip away, I'm going for Denver tonight with the spread.  I think they win by more than 3 to get revenge for losing on their own court in game 2.  While I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Heat were able to win tonight, I feel like the spread makes this an attractive bet on the Nuggets.  Especially if Tyler Herro comes back and screws up all the energy that the Heat have been running with since the start of the postseason.  So tonight, I'm taking Denver -2.5 and hoping this is another W for me, although I never bet enough to really care either way.  Smiley
3046  Economy / Speculation / Re: SEC Lawsuit Against Binance Is Likely To Hit Bitcoin Price on: June 06, 2023, 10:57:51 PM
I just read that the SEC is now looking to freeze Binance’s assets. That’s going to hurt them no doubt. It seems as though there won’t be much of a trial to determine Binance’s fate. With the SEC looking to punish the company, things like freezing assets and restricting access to banks could be enough to hurt the exchange or at the very least cause a run that will give it a proper stress test.
3047  Economy / Speculation / Re: SEC Lawsuit Against Binance Is Likely To Hit Bitcoin Price on: June 06, 2023, 10:26:35 PM
The SEC is also going after Coinbase, which is strange to me because Coinbase is a publicly traded company that was reviewed before it was able to be listed. I actually am beginning to think these attacks, specifically the one on Coinbase, will ultimately prove to be a good thing for Bitcoin once they win and get more regulatory clarity.
3048  Economy / Speculation / Re: Just how bad is the bear demand right now on: June 06, 2023, 10:00:03 PM
The global economic conditions which are in recession are likely to be the cause of the decreased demand for bitcoins, but we must be optimistic that the beginning of 2024 will be a halving day which will increase demand so that prices can set new ATH records again, I'm sure the end of the year will be the start of a bull run.

I think we’re more likely to see a run up to the halving event and then a correction after as investors take profits. Usually takes a while before the big bull kicks off.

As for the thread topic, I’m shocked how much bullish demand there is at the moment with all things considered. I’m surprised we’re back above $27K again already.
3049  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 06, 2023, 07:43:00 PM
The US has been urged to stop fucking around.

By aliens? it figures... Grin

Something tells me that the aliens would probably be more interested in crypto than fiat…

How about the bounce we got today? I wasn’t expecting to see a recovery move so large or so soon. It seems like the market is shaking off the latest wave of FUD and doesn’t think the SEC has much of a case against Binance.
3050  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: He Committed Suicide After Losing School fees, And That Of Friend To Betting.. on: June 06, 2023, 07:40:06 PM
I’m not sure I agree with those of you blaming the parents. I am pretty sure that their child committing suicide wasn’t their goal. People do things by themselves sometimes and I feel like if help was needed it would have been provided. Having been young once myself though, I can understand how a run of bad luck could seem like the end of the world when you lack life experience.
3051  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can the ban on smartphones curtail peer pressure? on: June 06, 2023, 07:36:46 PM
Adopting this as a town wide policy is a bit unusual, but I can understand that there are people out there who think this is a good idea. As long as an overwhelming majority of residents feel this way, I don’t have any problem with this being the type of thing that is done in a small area. People should be able to live all sorts of ways and have places for it without infringing on the rest of our rights.
3052  Economy / Reputation / Re: 12 Years on Bitcointalk Today! on: June 06, 2023, 04:27:04 PM
I really appreciate all the ego inflating comments on this thread. I typically only hear negative feedback from a handful of users so it’s even a bit surprising to get so many positive responses. Those who want to support what I do or be a part of it should check the links in the OP.

I’m not sure being here for 12 years makes me a legend, but it does show that I’m a little bit insane. I can’t imagine any sane person putting up with the harassment I’ve received from forum members here on and outside this forum, yet here I am. I honestly hope that this forum isn’t used to harass others in the way I have been, but am grateful to be the steel hardened with the hottest fire.

I’m not giving any more merits to users beyond this post in an attempt to let this thread die without locking it. Stay safe. Stay happy. Stay honorable.
3053  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: June 06, 2023, 03:13:32 PM
Speaking of Tyler Herro, I don't think the Heat would risk playing him if he is not 100% healthy. They are not desperate because they have already evened the series by winning one game on the road. They have the advantage to delay Herro's return in order to ensure he is fully conditioned and to avoid risking his future if he were to get injured again. Additionally, Herro may not have had much practice with the team, so there's a chance he might underperform and potentially cost the Heat a game. Considering these factors, I'm fine with not seeing him come back in the game.

Herro already came out and said he didn’t think it would be a good idea to try and join the team now because it could very likely mess up their chemistry. He doesn’t want to cost himself that ring. With the Heat winning a game on the road against the Nuggets, betting on them just became a whole lot more interesting though.
3054  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] Free Satoshi Skull decal! Greenpeace hit piece.. lol on: June 06, 2023, 03:11:40 PM
After a couple months of waiting, I just received my sticker in my mailbox today

Sweet!  I was beginning to think Greenpeace realized they messed up.  Looking forward to getting mine!

Ya, I had totally forgotten about this. I signed up to have a couple of them sent to me. Not sure what I’ll do with them, but it’s funny to think about all the resources this dumbass campaign wasted just to get Bitcoiners some stickers they will be proud of because the campaign was done so poorly. With this type of idiocy, I’m surprised Greenpeace isn’t a government entity.
3055  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 06, 2023, 12:48:02 PM
I’m glad to see the price seemingly holding at $25K. The charts look like we should be dropping straight to $20K, so I think the fact that we haven’t on this latest Binance news is a good sign. I’m still not convinced we won’t see the head and shoulders pattern complete and take us to $20K, but it seems to be so far so good at the moment.
3056  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: June 06, 2023, 12:45:43 PM
Kyrie trying to get the Dallas mavericks to trade for LeBron is pretty crazy. Kyrie literally almost destroyed the Celtics, walked away from them to the Nets, which he destroyed the team. Then he goes to Dallas, tanks them so hard they miss the playoffs and his answer is to trade for LeBron who he left to prove he could win without… Good luck Kyrie.
3057  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 05, 2023, 05:11:58 PM
I've been waiting for Binance to be targeted as soon as the FTX situation blew up and regulators realized that Binance did the exact same thing as FTX, but they were able to survive a cycle doing so and became insanely wealthy as a result.  Looks like now that regulators have caught on, they are going to be looking to take a piece of flesh from CZ.  This is in no way a positive development for Bitcoin in the short term, and we're already seeing the start of the pain, but long term I think if we want to see Bitcoin hit the high 6 figures, it is absolutely necessary to weed out the bad actors in the space, and Binance is just FTX with a first mover advantage.
3058  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: $90,000 all in bet on: June 05, 2023, 04:04:23 PM
It's very sad and honestly, you are very brave after such a big loss you have handled the situation many people get frustrated and can't control themselves. From here it will be convenient to move forward with your experience. The damage done to the gambling platform is very difficult to recover. I would never bet that much. If you invest in this, the loss will be less. Gambling is an addiction in which you will always be in a daze, building your life beautifully. Those who know life is one, and life only once, live life not only looking back but also looking forward. Look forward, don't look back.

This does seem to serve as a cautionary tale. I know I would never consider gambling that $90K in this scenario. Turning $4K into $90K would be the win for me… You could invest that and get $3K a year for the rest of your life. That’s what I would consider the win. Must have been a hell of a rush watching 90K disappear though.
3059  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 05, 2023, 06:38:07 AM
Kai got robbed in my opinion. I don't even think it was close, except for the one submission attempt Albazi didn't do a awful lot. He got massively outstruck, and failed to make his takedowns for much of the fight. I had a decent night of predictions, but I was let down by that flash KO of Jamie. That was probably one of my more confident picks of the night too. To do that on your debut though, that's quite impressive. I'm annoyed at Jamie though, he gets way too confident, and forgets to defend.

It was interesting to see Izzy tweet that judges should have to give interviews after the fight and defend their scorecards. This is the first time I’ve heard of such an idea but it doesn’t seem like a bad one. Sort of similar to the NBA’s 2-minute report that shows any of the officials’ mistakes at the end of games to hold them accountable.
3060  Economy / Reputation / Re: 12 Years on Bitcointalk Today! on: June 05, 2023, 03:30:38 AM
Congratz! What made you interested in Bitcoin so early?

There isn’t just a single reason really. I liked a lot of things about Bitcoin when I first discovered it. The free transactions (once upon a time), no clawbacks, a limited number of coins, being able to mine at home, and it being open source software. Plus it was being traded 24/7 and the community was friendly and supportive. It was clear to see it was going places.

Thanks everyone for all the kind words. I see a few people mentioning my negative feedback. All I can really say about that is it is a bit disgraceful that so many default trust members include users like Vod in their trust networks who publicly tried to extort me. As with everything nowadays, corruption at the highest levels.
