what machine do u use so you can tell that UBUNTU is fast!?

Win 7 is fast on my machine, could not see any difference betwet 7 and ubutu

Trust me. Ubuntu is a lot faster. That's why it's used to run gaming servers. Linux is simple doesn't take up much space compared to windows 7 and can make a big difference in machine performance. Maybe, you won't see a difference because the machine you are using is very powerful and runs fast anyway. But, you would still see a little bit of difference.

My machine is realy powerfull and i dont have any problems. Windows has more support of apps and games than linux. I also have SSD that i am using only to run Windows and it boots prety fast

My machine is a few years old but very quick with Ubuntu, plus it has full disk encryption which was super easy (like one check box during installation) to implement. I wonder if there is a side by side windows 7 or 8 VS Ubuntu comparison out there.

I'm going to try to make it for at least a couple days. Being this is such a long running meeting, is there any sort of agenda being drawn up?

Ubuntu, I really like the Unity shell interface.

wow so do I, feel like we are the only ones who like it.

man i tried ubunt once and it is pure crap in my oppinion. Only thing that is good, there are no virusees for linux

what didn't you like about it, I use it everyday and I love it. It's so fast and easy.
324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: installed qt client in ubuntu but the language is wrong on: November 16, 2013, 03:33:39 PM
Hi all, I did fix the language. Turns out it's going off of the regional format. so you go "language support" > "Regional format". I actually liked it the way it was set because I liked the date format better, but it's not a big deal and better that I can read my wallet text. Also I rest my computer after making the changes.

I think they do create some extra mindless posts and even though I'm participating, I'd be ok if they got rid of sigs.
326  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How long till the end of the USDollar? on: November 16, 2013, 02:00:13 PM
I think you should have extended the poll with more years, I believe the USD will be around for about 20 more years.
327  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should the Bitcoin Foundation be moved to a Neutral Country... on: November 16, 2013, 08:31:19 AM
I agree, if there is such a foundation, it should not be in the US.

Hello,

As a real IT nerd i have been following bitcoin a bit for the past years.
In may i went asfar as registering an account on MTgox to buy "in".
But i never went through with it. But this week i finally got my first batch of bitcoins.
I have been sick with the bitcoin virus this week. Reading all about bitcoins!

So a logical step is to create an account here and start posting!

Thanks!

Regards

Hans

welcome, what areas of IT are you most interested in?
330  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your long-term view of bitcoin? on: November 15, 2013, 06:32:34 PM
I think by 100 year there will be something else. I could see btc still used in come areas, but largely I think it will be replaced.
331  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whats the cheapest bitcoin you got? on: November 15, 2013, 06:31:31 PM
a long time ago someone gave me 2 btc for free, so that was 0.00, other than that I've never bought btc.

Hi guys!

I have a weird hobby, let me start:

As part of my job, I often travel to various countries. I have visited about 38 of them.
Every time I am in new country, I ask random people to give me a small amount of money - like 1$ or equivalent, mainly - to see how friendly they are. My coworker knows about my hobby and told me about Bitcoin. He also pointed me to this forum.

So, you might already know what I ask for - can you give me some coins? Smiley

Kindly thanks and regards!
The Cardinal.

With the price of btc going up all the time, I don't think many people are going to be that friendly.

New to bitcointalk.org I love coins hope to make some new friends Grin

welcome, what brings you here?
334  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When did you start? on: November 15, 2013, 06:28:35 PM
I first heard about it sometime in 2011, I think it was on the freetalklive.com fourms.
335  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbienewb with questions on: November 15, 2013, 06:27:53 PM
I don't really think there is much money to be made in mining. Most people who are making money are making it because the price of btc is going up. So if you want, you can buy btc and hope it goes up in value, but I think the days of many people mining for profit are over. btw I do mine and have not made a return on investment.
336  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's up with the 6 minute wait time to post? on: November 15, 2013, 06:26:18 PM
I think it's just a newb restriction, because I've never see that.
337  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much are you mining? on: November 15, 2013, 06:25:37 PM
I mine PPcoin and get about .5 per day. When I started I would get about 1 per day, but now it's harder.
338  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When would you call bitcoin stable? on: November 15, 2013, 06:23:28 PM
I will be happy when the price stays within 20% window for a year.
339  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Let There Be Dark! Bitcoin Dark Wallet on: November 15, 2013, 06:10:45 PM
If anyone wants to come participate in development, you're more than welcome.

https://wiki.unsystem.net/index.php/DarkWallet/Meeting_Nov2013

This is the event for starting everything. We have more public talks in the first week of December, and spaces if people need a place to sleep (although it will be quite busy). If you have a proposal for a talk or need a bed then send me a PM. Feel free to visit if you're around.

Our mailing list:

I'm not a real developer, but would it be ok if I checked it out?
340  Other / Politics & Society / Re: any free state project fans (or haters) here? on: November 15, 2013, 06:07:01 PM
I do believe they already have over 1500 participants in the state. As far as getting liberty, real liberty, I think it's the best thing going now.
