Rackspace?  I thought it was Linode?
Linode was one hack, Rackspace was another.
324  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius Miners: [POLL] Proposed changes to Eligius Payout System on: August 01, 2012, 09:27:02 PM
I don't think the paper specifically references CPPS, and I haven't heard of it until now either, so I must assume it is something that has been developed recently. I will reserve judgement on it specifically for that reason until I can learn more about it.

Laser engrave private keys on a tungsten bucking bar. The bank can burn down around it and it will still be readable.

OK, I now am certain to have captured YAA (Yet Another Atlas): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=63063

BTW, reports of possible new accounts are always welcome. Find the Atlas!
I must say, I'm starting to agree at this point.
327  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: I am willing to sell SolidCoins (soon Microcash) for bitcoin on: August 01, 2012, 08:34:17 PM
I'll give you .00000001 BTC for all the ShitCash you have.

Actually no, I won't. I'll have to wait until bitcoin becomes more divisible into smaller units. Sorry.

Tihan Seales the deal, as always.
Oh god, what a terrible pun.
329  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dwolla's SSL certificate has been revoked on: August 01, 2012, 08:30:58 PM
Apparently they revoke it if you miss a payment.
Interesting, most CAs that I have met require a payment for the full validity period, but maybe Verisign has a payment plan because they are so damn expensive for EV certs.

Also, epic fail not paying bills. Roll Eyes
330  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius Miners: [POLL] Proposed changes to Eligius Payout System on: August 01, 2012, 08:24:44 PM
You should consider reading this carefully:
https://bitcoil.co.il/pool_analysis.pdf
Keeping in mind the author is trying to make specific reward systems look better than others.
Because they are better.

I honestly did not see this coming.

333  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dwolla's SSL certificate has been revoked on: August 01, 2012, 05:08:29 PM
They responded with this:
Quote
Dwolla’s SSL certificate had a minor issue. The SSL certificate was purchased for one year, however, was given a two-year expiration date. This is part of our routine monitoring.

Dwolla realized this error and migrated the certificate to another vendor as an interim solution. Dwolla will revert to our old SSL vendor, a two-year, paid certificate, later this week.

So Verisign issued a 2 year cert, even though Dwolla only paid for one? That's odd, wonder if it was actually the other way around.

He is working with a lawyer right now so this thread is basically pointless.
Should have been months ago.

Funny how you Mods quickly show up for his defense, way to show an united front.  Shocked

IMO, if this were anybody else he'd have that label by now. The evidence seems pretty clear and from what I can tell anything to the contrary comes from ZT himself.
So a lack of evidence is a defense? Funny how your vision gets clouded by a witch hunt. Where there is an opposing statement, there is ambiguity that needs to be resolved. What reason do you have to completely ignore his statements as if they were false, just because they oppose your opinion as to what may be going on?

Statements made by a suspect shouldn't be counted as evidence. If there was somebody independent bringing that up it should be valid.
In that case, I hereby suspect you of drug trafficking for a major cartel, and you can't defend yourself because you are the suspect. Deny it all you want, but it means nothing! Yeah right.

Well then what was the point of the thread where AurumExchange was presenting the evidence to us? Of course you can say that wasn't evidence just accusations. Are you doing that?
Sure, there was evidence, but the suspect provided counter-evidence that refuted some of the conclusions that the accuser jumped to. So yes, some of it was nothing more than accusations.

Just for grins, I created some AdblockPlus element hiding rules, after discovering the cool Element Hiding Helper addon. Note that the following might be a little buggy and could probably be refactored by someone that knows what they are doing, but here they are anyway. The rules strip out a few table columns with useless (to me!) info such as popularity graphics etc.

Code:
bitcointalk.org##.titlebg2[height="32"]:first-child
bitcointalk.org##.windowbg[valign="middle"]:first-child
bitcointalk.org##TD.catbg
bitcointalk.org##TD[style="padding: 0 0 1px 0;"]:first-child:last-child
bitcointalk.org##DIV.tborder:last-child
bitcointalk.org##TD[width="28%"][valign="middle"][align="right"]:first-child
bitcointalk.org##TD[width="28%"][valign="middle"][align="left"]:last-child
bitcointalk.org##TD[width="10%"][colspan="2"]
bitcointalk.org##TD.windowbg2[width="6%"][valign="middle"][align="center"]
bitcointalk.org##.windowbg2[width="4%"][valign="middle"][align="center"]
bitcointalk.org##TD.middletext:first-child:last-child
bitcointalk.org##TD.windowbg2.leftimg[width="5%"][valign="middle"][align="center"]:first-child
bitcointalk.org##TD.catbg3[width="9%"][colspan="2"]:first-child
bitcointalk.org##TD.smalltext[style="padding-top: 2ex;"]:first-child
bitcointalk.org##TD.smalltext[valign="top"][style="padding-top: 2ex;"]

You can disable ones that you don't like; currently they do the following:
Disable the "Bitcoin Forum" text at the top of the page
Disable the "Hello, username" at the top of the page
Disable the avatar at the top of the page
Disable the first 2 columns in the main table, since they contain mostly uselss info (little popularity graphics)
Disable the graphic explanations at the bottom of every page
Disable other extraneous graphics
339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Results of dictionary attack on SHA256 hashed keys on: August 01, 2012, 02:49:35 PM
All good points, but unless you want to burden users with annoying password requirements,

b) feels their passphrase may be weak and is trying to compensate by adding more entropy via the salt

is somewhat the name of the game for a public service. However, this can be alleviated by even just a few simple password requirements, so it's not much of an issue, just something to consider.
