341  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are USD Withdrawals From Mt Gox to Dwolla Still Taking Weeks? on: August 01, 2012, 02:25:04 PM
So I figure the problem with Dwolla is two fold: You have to wire from your Japanese bank to an American bank, which might have a small delay and also might incur whatever checking needs to go on. Then, you ACH from the American bank to Dwolla, which takes a minimum of 5 days, because Dwolla likes to profit from the float. I'm guessing most of the "unknown" delay is on the wire side.

I would consider a salt to be a "quasi-secret" that doesn't need to be treated with extreme care, but should probably not be posted in public or something. If the attacker knows the salt, he can start building tables before he attacks you, even though it's unlikely that he could get very far with that anyways.
343  Other / Off-topic / Re: It's mid 2013 - Pirate has cut and run along with his shills - Discuss on: August 01, 2012, 02:09:34 PM
Me personally? I just regret not starting something like this myself - right now he's totally free to cut and run with over a million dollars  Cheesy
In the big picture, that really isn't much money. If I were entrusted with others' money, it would require much more than several millions to make me cut and run.
344  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Look at a pirate, eye to eye if you dare. on: August 01, 2012, 02:05:08 PM
So, just to reiterate, Bitcoiners were meeting right beside DefCon and not going in.

Yeah, it's everyone's own choice and a matter of taste so What is this I don't even
Zomg my brainwallet might get hax
345  Other / Off-topic / Re: Zhou Tong advertising on BitcoinTalk. on: August 01, 2012, 01:41:07 PM
Funny how you Mods quickly show up for his defense, way to show an united front.  Shocked

IMO, if this were anybody else he'd have that label by now. The evidence seems pretty clear and from what I can tell anything to the contrary comes from ZT himself.
So a lack of evidence is a defense? Funny how your vision gets clouded by a witch hunt. Where there is an opposing statement, there is ambiguity that needs to be resolved. What reason do you have to completely ignore his statements as if they were false, just because they oppose your opinion as to what may be going on?
346  Other / Meta / Re: labels/tags instead of subfora? on: August 01, 2012, 01:29:55 PM
As long as users were forced to apply a minimum of one tag, I think it wouldn't be too hard to get used to. A new topic could automatically get the tag of the current section inserted upon creation.
347  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HOLY SHIT BTC-E.COM hit $40 per BTC! on: August 01, 2012, 07:31:30 AM
Not even ISP. BGP is very insecure, anyone able to publish routes can have traffic for any address on the internet routed to them.
Sure, but that is fairly easy to detect and will result in alarm bells ringing all over the world. Remember when China tried that stunt? Big press all over the place about it.
348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Results of dictionary attack on SHA256 hashed keys on: August 01, 2012, 07:30:04 AM
i dont get it.... did you get control over someones btc?

who is at risk for this attack?
The only people at risk are those that use a known passphrase as their private key. Any user that gets his addresses automatically generated by a client will not suffer from this problem.
349  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Look at a pirate, eye to eye if you dare. on: August 01, 2012, 03:01:41 AM
Just letting everyone know that I was hanging out with Tuxavant, Casascius, Andrew Bitcoiner, and a bunch of other forum people for most of the weekend at DEFCON and never saw any of the folks in that picture.
Wasn't their meetup in a different location?
350  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 4 dead PSUs, there HAS to be a commonly failing component on: August 01, 2012, 03:00:31 AM
And yeah, I've heard all the "Deadly Internal voltage" warnings etc. I always wait a day before opening one up,

Capacitors store energy until they are discharged, which can be months later when you touch them while working on it...
They also leak their charges out naturally, especially if a sane designer included a shunt resistor of appropriate value.
351  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: August 01, 2012, 02:54:40 AM
Cheesy

Stick to your pot Rarity - you don't belong in the real world.
Neither do you.
352  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ASIC is bogus on: August 01, 2012, 01:40:00 AM
Wait, if it's perfectly insulating, how would it let heat through to the liquid?

Also, USB coffee warmers have been around, but can anyone that has tried one let us know whether they work?
353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dwolla's SSL certificate has been revoked on: August 01, 2012, 01:36:31 AM
Bumping this with the text of an email that I sent them via their contact submission form, as follows:

Quote
I would like to know what's going on with your SSL certificate. The following statement is made at this link: http://help.dwolla.com/customer/portal/articles/86685-security-partner-overview

"VeriSign EV Certificate and Encryption

Extended Validation SSL Certificates give high-security web browsers information to clearly identify a web site’s organizational identity. VeriSign is an industry leading EV solution provider.  Our certificate provides a 128-bit minimum to 256-bit encryption."

but you are actually using a cheap Godaddy certificate. I see that one or more EV certificates from Verisign have been revoked.... Have you had a security incident that you should have warned customers about? Certificates don't just get revoked without a damn good reason, and I feel that this is something extremely important that you need to address.

The only public communication that I have been able to find in regards to this issue is a single Twitter message that says the following:

"‏@dwolla

Working with our partners at @verisign and @symantec to look into a certificate issue some of our users are reporting. Still secure."

but absolutely no communication after that message, posted on the 21st of July, 2012, 10 days ago.

I would appreciate your prompt response in regards to this matter so that I can be assured of your continued security and the security of any data about me that you have stored there.

Thank you and regards,

It's been 10 days since this incident, with nothing more said.

I have been waiting for these things since march...  i have SeaSonics and mobo ready...  but to waste 4 of my precious gpu power connectors on one card... NO THANKS.     i hate molex connectors.

bummer.......   Angry
Quite so. I can't figure it out, it seems to me that the most logical thing would be 2x 8-pin: 150w each, = 300 watts total, whereas 3x 6-pin: 75w each, = 225 watts total. Huh

Do the PCIe bridge chip and the memory really need as much power as both the GPUs combined? Huh

EDIT: Derp, 4x 6-pins, not 3. Still it works out to the same wattage as 2x 8-pins.

The PCIe bridge chip should use barely any power. The RAM should not use anywhere near the GPU's lol.... that would be madness
Exactly. And yet, some are postulating that the necessity of 4 connectors is to provide better power or something, and that some of them would be dedicated to the RAM and others to the GPUs. Madness.

I -think- I recognize Pirate, Goat, OneFixt, and Gigavps in there, but the rest are just guesses.

Is this a record speed of time from hack 'til normal operation again? Grin

Atlas, what is your obsession with pretending to be older gentlemen? Last time it was an old guy who had a ranch of horses. You're really pathetic.
If you're talking to me, you've mistaken me for somebody else.

That's what Atlas always says Wink.
Aw, who gives a fuck. Just because MNW has a gay Atlas fetsh doesn't mean we need to worry about it as long as "Atlas" (or just an innocent bystander/newcomer) is posting constructively and not trolling the fuck out of everyone with his bullshit propaganda.

359  Economy / Goods / Re: Windows 7 Professional 32bit OEM DVDs - UNOPENED 10 btc OBO on: July 31, 2012, 09:26:40 PM
Also how did you get these links?
Google the exact URL with quotes, and you'll find any number of sites that have them linked all over the place. DigitalRiver is MS's online sales partner, so the links are there for customers who purchase keys from them. I usually use Technet too, but these work. I think they are retail, but my OEM keys seem to work on them. I'm not even sure that the ISOs for Retail vs. OEM are even different, although I haven't checked the hashes.

For XP, MS even offers a product key update tool that switches licensing between Retail/OEM/VLK and vice-versa, so I wouldn't be surprised if 7 just works with anything.

we all know and love Phin but he has this obnoxious habit of going off on witch hunts involving the worst logic and thought processes i've ever seen.  Tom Williams is the penultimate example.  he couldn't connect 2 dots if you drew it on a piece of paper for him.  Wink
