I get the incentive part, and it is normal to work this way, but the way it is described is misleading. When you say 5% interest for staking, I think about 5%, not 10%-20%.
When you get interest for a term deposit in a bank and the interest rate is 5%, you get 5%. It doesn't matter if other people keep their money in checking accounts and don't get any interest, you will still get only 5%. The bank doesn't calculate a 5% interest for all the money held by the bank, and then distribute it proportionally to those who have term deposits. It doesn't work this way, and any person who understand the concept of interest knows I am right.

This is why the way POS interest is described here is not the normal way interest works, but a very strange way.

I am also invested in NAV Coin, another POS coin, and from the discussions I've seen in their threads, it seems that the interest rate is exactly 5% and the coins that are not stalking are not generating any interest. In their case, the inflation is about 2.5% instead of 5% because around half of the coins are not stalking. This is how people are describing it. Now, after what I read here, I'm not even sure if NAV works the way I understood it does.

You also said "Some coins have 25% or even 100% per year." which is true, but nobody would invest in such coins unless he/she is a staker.

There must be a balance between the incentive to support the network and the inflation that affects regular investors/users who are not staking. The major fiat currencies like USD and EUR have a target inflation rate of around 2%, and people still complain about it. As a comparison, 5% for the whole monetary mass is big. If the interest was working the way I thought it did and the stakers got 5% while the rest got zero, than the inflation rate would be only 1.66% if only one third of the coins are staked, which is much better.

Remember that Bitcoin got successful once the mining rewards got low, and regular people who just wanted to buy/hold/spend got into the game. If miners would still be earning thousands of Bitcoins without a cap on the maximum amount of potential coins, there would be zero interest from the general public. And a coin made only of miners/stakers is not a coin.

Right. That's why this is not called "interest rate". It's the Proof of Stake reward, and we use Proof of Stake version 3 from Blackcoin. And for that system, the block reward depends on the block height, and as the block time adjusts automatically, the global "inflation" is about 5% yearly, fairly distributed between those who have contributed to the consensus. Fiat may have different numbers, because fiat is not a Proof of Stake system! Navcoin has their own implementation of Proof of Stake, which works differently. These are simply different systems, there is no point in discussing the differences.

If you think the reward is too high, then thanks, your point was made, it will not change soon. Many people complained that it is too low for their staking to be profitable. Just different points of view.

I'd tried v0.8.7.2 both subversions 1 and 2 on 32- and 64-bit machines in Win Vista and 8.1 but it not works. What I'd done: sownloaded .zip from espers.io, unpck, run .exe, closed window, run .exe again, and again, and again... but always see zero connections and therefore no activities.

So how I can force to work this wonder-in-feathers?..

1. Close your wallet
2. Go to C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\ESP
3. Remove file peers.dat
4. Open file Espers.conf
5. Remove all lines starting with "addnode..."
6. Copy & paste the addnode lines from here: https://espstats.net/download/addnodes.txt into Espers.conf, Save the file
7. Start your wallet. Voila!

Is this true? Is this how the POS interest works? This is really bad news for regular investors who are not stalking...

I thought the interest is 5%, and if only 1/3 of the coins are used for stalking, than the total inflation would be only 1.66%

That would mean lower inflation. It's really unfair for those who are not stalking if the system works as you describe it. If some people get 10% to 20% interest while others get zero, the difference is very big. 5% vs zero would be more fair.

It's meant to be an incentive to support the network, it's not meant to be fair. Some coins have 25% or even 100% per year. 5% isn't a lot actually. If you feel like you are missing out, just set up a Raspberry Pi for staking, or let the wallet automatically start on operating system start on your PC.

Great points here as usual.  And understandably confused, we could have worded that a bit better.  What was implied was that we've already built a framework to tie into the coin without actually moving forward on that implementation yet.  The reason being as stated, we recognize the flaws in Titcoin currently and how that could effect stability in the future.  I should also note that when we said Titcoin in that context we meant it broadly (as in to include TitGold) although we should have been a lot more specific considering the importance of the decision.

Alright, that makes sense! Smiley

We've always typically built in-house and under proprietary licenses and I would be lying if I said we didn't prefer to keep it that way. Although we also fully acknowledge the nature of the project and would like to maintain the transparent and open-source standard of the crypto space.  This is why we felt it necessary to revisit the idea of a spin-off "token" as it would allow us some additional room to iterate without destabilizing the base.

Yeah. I can totally understand your point of view. But I would also like to state my point of view, as a user of Titcoin. I think you can make as many tokens or "spin-offs" for your game as you like! Cheesy  But what would be important to me is, what is going to happen with Titcoin?! The one that is going to be used as a payment method for cam girls and porn sites, and online shops. IMO that does not really have much to do with your game. I know that this game is what your business is built on, but that's my point of view. These are two different products.

So how is Titcoin going to be developed? Are you going to change the algorithm, or consensus method, or what other plans do you have for it? How are you going to make this an established payment method in the adult industry?

erfahren?

Smiley

As said before, I think for a payment solution, running your own blockchain is mandatory, because a token-based solution also requires trust to the underlying platform, which reduces the chance for widespread adoption significantly. For game integration, on the other hand, a token-based solution is optimal because it's fast, uncomplicated and flexible.

What confuses me then is this quote:

Quote
On February 2nd, there was an internal milestone met in which the completion of several thousand lines of networking code was written to be shared across both Triple X Tycoon and Titcoin for use in a multiplayer tie-in at a later date.

So are you already planning to use Titcoin in your game or not?  Huh But at the same time you are asking whether you should make a new "TitGold" token for integration with your game? Seems like a waste of time if you are going to switch anyway.

When thinking about the underlying algorithm for Titcoin, I would suggest switching to a Proof-of-Stake-based solution, because Titcoin is already well-distributed, and PoS is usually faster than PoW and will enable the users of the coin (which are the main target group in this use case, along with the merchants) to support the network and generate coins. This will be the optimal setup when Titcoin becomes a widely accepted currency for adult payments. When hard-forking anyway, this will also allow you to switch to a more recent codebase.  Wink Just put a checkpoint at some point when the consensus mechanism changed, then potential security issues around PoW with SHA-256 will be irrelevant.

When deciding to develop this Titcoin for the purpose of being a currency, you might also ask for donations to support development, because you won't make any immediate profits from that. I understand that developing an open-source software is not always a solid business model, but there's a lot of money in cryptocurrencies that investors like to give to developers in order to enable them developing these things.

Btw. do you have a Discord channel for enabling users and developers to chat? IMO that's a great platform for building a community, and bringing users and developers together.

Thanks for the suggestion! Smiley  A marketing budget is definitely planned for the case that staking donations increase (they are still relatively low, yet). There is really not so much of an official team here, everybody who contributes is part of the family! Wink I am also a community member and do these things for free, when I have the time for it. Everybody who learns about Spectrecoin can do this and help improving the outreach.

In my opinion no one does it for "free" theres always an reward behind everyones actions, if it isnt for money then it's for appreciation (from community/the team/family/etc..) or your own satisfaction

So! where's my 1 merit  Cheesy Cheesy Wink

Hehe, that's not how it works. Wink Unfortunately your opinion is not an objective truth...  Tongue

Thanks Gandalf86,

i seems that you are quite activ on answering questions etc. much appreciated!

Maybe an possibility for the spectreteam (maybe you already part i dont know)  and the community to donate/provide you a budget for marketing ?
Reaching influencers to review xspec ?  (im not talking about paying for an paid ad. If more influencers are willing to analyse this project they will come to their own conclusion and promote it the way it deserves ...... just an idea..

staking for 2/3 days now (online almost 12 hours a day) but it keeps saying " time to reward 2 days".. is this the normal time ?

Im not in a hurry whatsoever, just asking  Cheesy

https://github.com/bitcoinx2/crypto-intro-guide/wiki/Proof-of-Stake#why-does-the-expected-time-to-reward-keep-changing

If it stays the same then everything is normal as well.

Hello Gandalf, a lot of these questions can be answered by our developers, please take a moment and visit our Telegram channel and ask them . Thank you
As for the Discord part I will propose it to the rest of te team. Thank you again for taking the time to read our thread.

Well I don't have a smartphone for privacy reasons, so I cannot use the so called "private" Telegram...  Grin

Maybe you can convince your developers to join this forum and answer some questions here, or you could just copy & paste their answer?

i can only partially agree on this one.... as i mentioned before, the purpose of creating a coin can never be for the purpose of creation only :/ sounds really silly, don't you think ?
If true (this is just someones hobby and therefore) it should be removed from all exchanges so the creators can continue creating untill they get bored and trade the coins between their friends in the pub and keep it there... so why donating the devs ? to pay them a salary for their hobby ? don't they get coins for free ? are no coins reserved for them ? or are the investors just here to pay (donating) for their hobby ?

Opening an ANN page on bitcointalk, providing updates, applying for new exchanges, and still only for the purpose of creation ? (a.k.a a hobby ?)
When you start something, there are many more tasks to be fullfilled, and one needs a strong figure to lead the process, which means not only focussing on the fun and known tasks, but also working on things that needs to be done.. advising investors to go in and do their own marketing is like asking a stranger to walk your dog.

Then why do you think Satoshi created Bitcoin? Just for fun? Did he do any marketing? Did he contact BTC/USD exchanges? None of that, it was not his job. He created a ground-breaking technology that was open for everyone to use. If it is useful, then it will be used - simple as that. The community is what drives adoption. We are the community. So what?  Smiley Let's start doing it!

I only partialy agree with the bolded statement. Why? I can't approach a website to use XSPEC as payment provider without having sdks, documentation and ready made plugins to easily integrate in their software. Nobody is going to invest a lot in development for a "maybe". A little investment to integrate something ready-made yes. After we have these we can talk to merchants.

I surely agree on the technical side here. But I'm not sure if Jbg should focus on these things right now, rather than finishing wallet version 1.4 or implementing stealth staking, for example. These things are much more important. I'm sure he will be willing to help anyone who is trying to build a website plugin for it. Actually, the RPC interface is not much different from Bitcoin, so it should not be that much of a difficulty for someone who is writing web plugins. After all, as I said, it's an open project - the Github is public, you can make pull requests etc.. If there is some web developer in the community who wants to make a plugin for SpectreCoin, he should just join Discord, try doing it and ask for help if necessary.
358  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: January 29, 2018, 07:11:14 PM
Agreed. I was curious about the business side of things ie marketing, adoption, etc, could a senior team member perhaps elaborate on the roadmap there?  Not much info on that on the website.

You mean the roadmap regarding marketing and adoption? That's because there is really no roadmap on these things. We don't have anyone who would "lead" this stuff. Jbg and Bryce are focusing on their core competence, which is development. Marketing and adoption are within the responsibility of the community, which is us!

You have to understand that SpectreCoin is not a company, like some other ICOs nowadays, that is targeting maximum profit and where you are buying "shares" when purchasing coins. That's not how this works. This is a community-driven project - the devs are paid by donations for their work. Of course they are morally attached to the project as well, but it's not really their job to make this a profitable business.

I don't think that this is inherently a bad thing... not all users want to be capitalized on by deciding to use a certain currency. We are developing a private payment method that is open for everyone to use. That's the purpose of this project - if you want to make the price go up or increase adoption, then maybe you should start some marketing on your own! We also have a Discord that is dedicated to exactly this purpose - consisting 100% of community members! You can join that group and try to develop a marketing and adoption strategy. You can find the invite link on the wiki page here: https://altcoinwiki.org/en/SpectreCoin#Project_links

Ok. Thank you.
Do you know more or less how many coins could be needed for the xnodes based on other hmq1725 coins?

Uhm I don't think there are too many other hmq1725 coins, that algo was specifically created for Espers by Cryptocoderz.  Wink

At an earlier point it was said to be around 25 million for 1 xnode, but that could change, I mean they are not even implemented yet!
