Yeah, I hate Reddit with a passion.

I won't say I hate it, as I haven't attended it long enough to create that kind of feeling.  Roll Eyes

But, in the research I do and end up on Reddit, I'm simply there for only 2 or 3 minutes (or a few seconds). I can't understand the conversations being had, because the answers to one answer are after the answer to any other answer. And in the middle there are still questions about something else. Just get lost.

My dear Bitcointalk forum!

Yes it is designed to make you obsolete and be replaced be someone younger.

If you are over 40 always encourage retro ideas to fight back against the youngins.

At the age of 66 and having had 49 years working with computers I have seen tons of false obsolete moves made.  ie reddit is a false improvement.  young people look at it and are conned that bitcointalks format is obsolete.

you know reddit is like a pcie based ssd and bitcointalk is older like a floppy disk.

while it is true that a pcie based ssd kicks the ass of a floppy disk 1000x or more.

reddit does not kick the ass of bitcointalk.

but too many are fooled into thinking that.
3582  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: My Bitcoin transaction has been stuck in the mempool for two weeks please help! on: September 15, 2023, 11:58:50 PM
https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator   would do it if you had paid 11 sats a  byte

you paid 9 sats a byte.

I entered it 2 times and it said something like "no go bro too small a fee"

below tracks the pool

https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#BTC,1w,fee

we have been steady need 12-14 sats a byte

track it and see if it goes to 9 sats a byte which is what you paid.

here is your transaction good luck maybe this weekend

https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/transactions/btc/27c69fe601bbdd09ead443496f0ae7364b50834312c57e4b1d36d288346d55da

One last hint if you always pay 12 sats a byte you can always use the free accelerator
3583  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ouch, today someone made a transaction with over $500k fee. on: September 15, 2023, 11:20:28 PM
Personally, I exclude that it was done for laundering.
The transaction was broadcast publicly. It absolutely was not done for money laundering purposes.

I also didn't know what paypal is doing that is not good. can you please tell us what you are talking about paypal @o_e_l_e_o?
You can find thousands of examples of people having their accounts frozen and money seized while PayPal provide zero reasons why and also provide zero assistance. There was also the big issue recently where they changed their terms to allow them to confiscate users' money if those users said anything online that PayPal disagrees with: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5416501.0

But anyway, the money has been refunded to Paxos: https://mempool.space/tx/1b9adb2878fce5cd1b6a11a011e3965f904829228d57cf90ca6731cd501890c6

I figured they would refund.

It does bring an interesting issue for a small pool.

https://pool.laurentiapool.org/#/work

if this small pool had hit it . the software auto sends to the four addresses that have mined to it.

so that 25 coin block would go to four people. take 180 blocks to clear.  and paypal/paxos would need to talk to four people to get a refund. not the pool but the four that mine to it.

I live in U.S.A.  I would not be able to simply return the 7 or so extra coins I got.  My address is registered and is kyc. thus it would look like I had a large taxable income.

Don't give them strange ideas for the Pizza Baking Contest 2024.
Having an Italian stating that "pizza with passion fruit and mayonnaise" is somewhat legit (according to Poe's Law) could lead to a disastrous outcome.
I cant forget this year special exxxotic pizzas that contained lemons, potatoes, and who knows what else.
It can't get any worst then that right? Right??  Tongue

pineapple 🍍 and ham     works.

but potato 🥔 with lemon 🍋 is a no go for me
3585  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Mempool block 807829 took only 1sat/vbyte on: September 15, 2023, 10:35:34 PM
Looks like they have a deal with a conjoin company

here is the tx id

https://mempool.space/tx/12a80fa353a38ffba5d94bc85e82208781cb627bec1e5090f69377e91405c75b

hundreds of tiny inputs to this address

https://mempool.space/address/37Q3iz1k8FCo2DfssdcCHf3MfLT8ckBSg2

and this address has had 1800+ points sent to it.

That's not a coinjoin because there would also need to be hundreds of recipients instead of one and there is also lots of address reuse on the input and output side. This is a dust consolidation from Coinex. It can be quite a headache dealing with thousands of small UTXOs so partnering with a mining pool can be a good idea to prevent this situation from becoming unmanageable and having coins stuck for a very long time because paying the normal mining fee in times of congestion would consume almost the entirety of your funds.

Nice work I think you nailed it perfectly.

Coinex and viabtc have partnered for years so it only makes sense that coinex has a consoldating setup with them.

I used to use coinex but they no longer accept usa customers.
3586  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Mempool block 807829 took only 1sat/vbyte on: September 15, 2023, 06:34:40 PM
Just a guess:
Maybe, they were consolidating their outputs and they included their own transaction.

Well viabtc is one of those miners that do things a little different, they allow to some TX to be included in their mined block if they have some minimum fee of 10 Sat/vB
If you are referring to their free accelerator service, the minimum fee rate to be eligible for using their free service is 10 sat/byte, not 10 sat/vbyte.
The other requirements are that the transaction size must be less than or equal to 500 bytes and there isn't any unconfirmed parents.

Yeah I thought that at first. They offer a lot of services. They also have a relationship with coinex so maybe it was something to do with them.  the 450plus deposit were conjoined to a single address for about 0.26 btc deposit.

i can check the deposit address to see if it belongs to viabtc as I mine with them and I have a list of some of their payout addresses.
3587  Economy / Economics / Re: Was just watching the big short. Why do the times suddenly feel similar? on: September 15, 2023, 06:25:26 PM
It’s different now because there is a housing shortage, we didn’t have this back then. Right now nobody is selling their house because they got a good interest rate locked in. Maybe those who bought in the last 2 years might be in trouble but most owners who owned for more than a decade will be fine.

In Canada it’s brutal however because mortgage rates need to be refinanced every 5 years and many are suffering every passing month. Will it collapse? Who knows. We got a massive housing shortage here.

wow no 15 year 20 year or 30 year mortgages sucks.

back in the day i had a 30 year at 7.875 in state of new jersey usa.

they have a rule you can pay it down quickly with no penalty. So my wife and I pushed hard and paid it in under eight years.

I see the same housing issues in USA that were happening in 2008.

Investors owning  five and six homes  rents are too high. younger families can not buy a home they rent and pay high rents.

Well why not all of the above?

Mining coins with solar power is a natural business for his company that make solar setups.

I see no reason why he does not like all of it.

So I think he sees a natural fit.
3590  Economy / Reputation / Re: LoyceV's Avatar and Signature log (campaign managers read this!) on: September 15, 2023, 04:30:07 PM
So I did a signature campaign for the first time in 4 years.
I have no intention of switching around to get double paid for two campaigns.

I am a bit confused as to what would be cheating.

So my current campaign pays me up to 40 good posts per week.

If the week starts on the 14th of sept 2023 and I do 50 good posts by  the 16th of sept 2023.

Can I leave on sept 17th go to another campaign as I fully did do the max posts for the week.

Or am I obliged to stay the full week and switch out on sept 20th thus giving the first campaign a full amount of posts and time for said week.

BTW I would want that the max posts and full time must be done if I am a campaign manager.

So that in my case I should leave at the weeks end if I were to switch out.
I only think that is fair to do the time and the post to get paid.

As a suggestion maybe this can be clarified by the campaign managers that time and posts are needed to get paid.

OR am I misunderstanding the purpose of this thread.
3591  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: HALVING IS GOING TO CAUSE A GENERAL EFFECT ON ALL IN THE ECOSYSTEM. on: September 15, 2023, 03:42:28 PM
How will the BTC mining difficulty level affect validators (btc miners) due to 1/2 reduction in reward after the next halving and possible backlash on general ecosystem?

Please as simple as you can I'd love to get your explanation on this.

I've made previous post regarding this and I'm still making enquires to deepen my understanding so understand me no bad talks please
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5458334.msg62494066#msg62494066

I've been reading closely all replies to my post and I'm grateful to all who commented your replies are gonna be helpful what I'll do is sum it up and broaden my understanding. Once again thanks to you all.

this is a solid question.

I would argue the 2012 December ½ ing was too early in BTC to use as an example of what to look for.

This leaves the 2016 July  and 2020 May ½ ing dates.

Covid fucked up all of 2020 so I would toss out the 2020 info.

we would then be left with only 2016 July ½ ing patterns as valid

and are trying to match it up with 2024 ½ ing

3593  Other / Meta / Re: ...about bitcointalk forum. on: September 15, 2023, 02:33:47 PM
OP, you might have noticed that I talk shit about bounty hunters and sig campaign spammers and the like, but understand two thing:
No particular emphasy on your person, it is a kind of common saying in the forum, especially from old users of the forum.

1) I have signatures and avatars on ignore, so unless I check a member's profile manually I have no idea if they're participating in a bounty or campaign.
Doesn't this defeat the idea of signature campaign in the forum? I mean, if everyone has signatures on ignore, obviously traffic won't be generated from the forum and companies will not want to run signature campaign in the forum again.

The shit-talking I do is based on years of prior experience with people who are incentivized to post on bitcointalk.  Let me ask you, have you been on any other forum and seen a new member create a thread asking how they can rank up or make good posts?  I seriously doubt it, and if you say you have I'd like to see the evidence.

I learnt that spamming was so bad years ago. Other forums, people likely ask about rules and regulations and not necessarily about how to be successful in the forum.

I have had somewhat of a love hate relationship with signature campaigns.

I have gone the route of ignore people.
I have gone the route of ignore signature’s
I have gone the route of ignore avatar’s

I have also decided to accept all of it and really admire the rarity of this forum allowing the degree of free speech 🎤 and signature’s that it does.

I have read many posts of the sceptical chemist even when he was only a pharmacist (sorry cant quite remember the old name) I used to think that a lot of his post were spot on.

In fact I still do. But in order to have the degree of free speech we have with the signature possibility for us all the sceptical chemist ideas and beliefs and practices need to be allowed and at the same time not practiced be all of us on the forum.

I give theymos a lot of credit for having a good way of balancing the forum.
3594  Other / Meta / Re: The comment layout is awful here on: September 15, 2023, 03:02:01 AM
I totally, agree, plus it kind a feels cool to type messages here. Like if one is making posts or messages here on BTT and using this same layout to make some posts, And if one is making them in public like among friends. Then they also become curious. As I have seen many situations like these. Where friend got curious whenever I tried to make a post or message in class. Those who sat near me, started to ask questions related to this and I have only one thing to say, this is a discussion form where you can learn and learn about and through BTC respectively.

I really like this layout and I hope this will never be changed. As, it is very cool and now become a little handy too.

I have no complaints on Bitcointalk's UI/UX as well — when I'm on my computer, that is. It's perfect and I really really love it when I'm on my computer but it's the total utter opposite when I'm on my phone. Quote tweeting multiple people are just the worst UX ever.

you should have a tablet for mobile and a flip phone.

smart phones suck
the screens are simply too small.

3595  Economy / Economics / Re: On Apple's $200 billion dump and US shooting itself in the foot on: September 15, 2023, 02:56:31 AM
I agree that competition will bring USA down a bit, but I doubt that it would be anything that would be too sustainable and long term. Maybe Apple will not make as much money as it used to, but that doesn't make them any less powerful, nor any other USA based company that was already big. This makes them smaller, but still bigger than most. If you want to buy a phone today, and you have enough money to buy anything you want, would you buy a Chinese phone, or Apple? They are just a cheap alternative to people who can't afford apple, and even with that way too many people still prefer Apple even if that means they go into debt. I think its a thing that's happening right now, but not as big as what it seems.

I buy a samsung. No one should buy an iPhone and I am glad apple took a hit on this.  They have become a true disgrace to their original we are not the man image.

Every day I listen to the news hoping to hear about another country hurting apple and their bs gear.

BTW I own six Mac mini's and 2 iPads
 but all samsung phones.
3596  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-09-08] BTC ETF: The quiet 800-pound gorilla in the room is about to roar on: September 15, 2023, 02:24:37 AM
The thing is.... do we want Institutional capital to enter Bitcoin and dominate the ownership of coins ...or do we want an more even distribution of coins to millions of people?

The Institutional Fiat rich investors will turn into Bitcoins whales and they will use those coins to manipulate the price.... they will dump large amounts of coins, which will cause huge price fluctuations and this will create too much price volatility for retail and businesses to use it as a Currency.

I vote for mass adoption of millions of individuals.... and not just a few institutions with the investment capital of a small group of super rich people.  Roll Eyes

It will never be a  working currency. the fee structures are wrong.

the shrinking reward system will alway create upwards price pressures.

The scrypt algo using LTC / Doge is far better to use for circulation currency.

BTC would have need to slow blocks and make ½ ings every 8 years then have lightning network for smaller transactions.

It has already failed as a universal payment system. it is  still good for larger money moves

3598  Economy / Economics / Re: What has really been behind china's economy on: September 15, 2023, 02:09:10 AM
These numbers are manipulated! The main aim of the communist party is to maintain a great image of China infront of the world. But the reality is very different that what you are seeing here.

A good read: https://www.cfr.org/article/chinas-homegrown-crisis

I personally work with 17 Chinese colleagues who are doing the same job since last 18 years without changing the company and with only one promotion. They are afraid of changing jobs as there's not much opportunities available outside the metro cities and it's extremely costly to live in metro cities. Do not believe things coming out of China glorifying themselves.

Well in a country with 1,400,000,000 people all under very strict rules of behavior a successful worker always knows he is easy to replace.

So workers are underpaid in general and abused by the upper class via low wages hard long hours etc.

Foxconn had suicide nets in place due to excessive worker suicide attempts.

Here in the Wonderfull USA we get great freedoms anther are actually about 750,000,000 guns available to  about 330,000,000 million people includes little kid as they watch where Daddy puts the gun.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/29/health/us-children-gun-deaths-dg/index.html

be shot to death is the most common way for a kid to die in the USA.

So the gun freedom slows crazy nut job government rules to turn the workers in to semi slaves. But the workers shoot way too many people.  You would think there was a happy in-between .  But I do not think so.
3599  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for September on: September 15, 2023, 01:42:10 AM
The price rebounded quickly from the bottom of 25,600, which confirms that it is still possible to retest 31,000 again during this month, but the possibility that we will reach levels of 38,000 thousand to 42,000 has become a little more difficult. Thus, we can say that during this month, the best we will get is to retest 31,000 again.

it is still possible for us to be between 19,500 and 24,785. Therefore, during this month, if the price does not move higher, the end of this month will definitely be between these two levels.

<snip>

I feel 38 to 42k is a must by April 1st 2024

Mostly because it is the number needed to not collapse miners.

But that is 5-6 months away.

My hope is we move quickly to 33-35k in sept-oct this year.  Thus we take the fear away of the need for 38k-42k by April 1 2024.

As always I am a slanted person as I mostly mine to get income.
3600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ouch, today someone made a transaction with over $500k fee. on: September 14, 2023, 11:45:51 PM
sounds like paypal owned funds stored in paxos, where paypal wanted to withdraw small amount from paxos, but paxos(the withdrawal service) sent out the small withdrawal amount but using a large utxo without using a change address for remaining unspent output balance

yep.

f2pool should upcharge at least 2 coins.

i am in a very small pool that hits a block every 2 or 3 years.

I usually get 40% of the block and fees.

So 6+19=25 x 40% is 10 coins. about 7.2 would be the extra fee.

the other two miners in this pool would get

12 and 3 coins

pool is set up to auto send when block is hit so I would handle the ten coins. about 7.2 should go back to them.

but I would have to get a lawyer and special tax letters so That the irs does not try to tax the 7.2 I return.
