Bitgem (BTG) is now traded at marketplace.
Also In response to feedbacks I will reduce the captcha requirement to ease the manual labor to post in the marketplace.

PPC is indeed very innovative. Great job and really appreciate the effort in maintaining PPC. I am currently mining , buying and holding PPC. 2 questions about the marketplace. 1. captcha couldn't display on chrome browser, any way to fix it? 2. the marketplace serves as a way to express one's (bitcointalk user) desire to trade instead of the actual trading like other exchange. is that right?
Thanks for the compliments 1. I tested it on chrome (windows 7) it appears working for me. Any particular setting you are using? 2. Yes it's like the bitcoin-otc market or the google doc 'exchanges', offers are not binding until traded privately between forum users. I generally avoid involving myself in any exchange/wallet/bank business that manage user funds as that would interfere with my job as ppc's lead developer.

Hmm I understand you have some concerns with this feature, it wasn't meant to be something big that gonna suck me in, because my main job is to innovate in cryptocurrency and maintain ppc network instead of running crypto ebay. It exists just to help our users so other developers good at ebay stuff can take notice.

|
|
With a reputation system it should work similar to the bitcoin-otc market. Was thinking this might be more appropriately called a Classifieds Marketplace.

Bitgem (BTG) is the 4th PPC fork (after NVC, BTB, YAC). Although it doesn't have much innovation the dev appears to be actively maintaining it. An active fork of PPC is an acknowledgement of our work and let more developers get familiar with PPC's design and code. Bitgem is not currently traded on an exchange. So I added it to PPC Marketplace ( http://ppcoin.org/market) to help its users to trade. Good luck BTG!

It's not an issue when PoS becomes common as there should be more PoS blocks than PoW blocks, so you wouldn't see long consecutive PoW blocks to be orphaned by a malicious PoS minter.
Checkpoint should be enabled for any ppcoin forks.
|
|
|
PoW hash rate cannot directly 51% attack ppc network. There is only PoS 51% attack as block chain is protected solely by proof-of-stake.

Weekly Update #43 - Recently a few product/service websites start taking PPC as payment, including fendlestick's coingas, and Petr1fied's cryptoblackjack. Most of these new websites accept multiple cryptocurrencies. I expect this trend to continue as the market starts recognizing the benefit of competition in cryptocurrency.
- New Mercator Advisory Group published an analyst report on alternative currencies which mentioned ppc. http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/s5f5c3/alternative
- Recently we have seen intermittent 51% attack on feathercoin network and other new cryptocurrency networks. This was one of the top reasons that ppcoin's checkpoint system was originally designed. The recent attack on feathercoin network indicates that the attacker is quite resourceful, controlling maybe upward of 2gh/s scrypt mining (meaning thousands of highend GPUs). The phaseout of ppc's checkpoint is planned for later this year but will be gradual. Eventually the checkpoint would become user enabled and by default not enforced. In this running mode, the checkpoint system still acts as a safety mechanism that can be utilized via community consensus in the event of persistent 51% attack on proof-of-stake or other emergencies.
Have fun!

Seriously? My entire PPC balance becomes unavailable for 3 days if I get "lucky" enough to mint a stake? You don't see this as a problem for any semblance of mass adoption?
Hypothetical situation: I do a deal to pay in PPC on Thurdsay. My promise is to pay for goods delivered, on Saturday. On Friday, I mint a stake.
Do you see where this going?
There is a 'reservebalance' parameter to help users in this situation. This is currently a commandline/config only parameter, in the future it would be added to qt settings so gui users can more easily set it. If you run the client more often the stake would be split/combined into reasonable size coins so typically you wouldn't have all your balance tied in stake at the same time.

Might be OT so forgive if this is in the wrong place:
I recieved my first mined 'Mint by Stake' of 0.5 PPC on June 9, 2013.
Since then, my entire balance (320PPC) has been stuck? as a stake amount. I am unable to spend any of my balance. PPCoin wallet says 'Amount exceeds your balance.' when I try.
So my balance says 0.00 PCC Stake 320.349 PPC Unconfirmed 0.00 PPC
It's been like that for the past 3 days. So weird.
Any one have any info to share on the situation?
There is 520-block maturity on stakes. Generally it takes about 3 days for stakes to return to balance.

I do understand that inflation model is sacrosanct to a cryptocurrency. So no that would not happen. Instead I have this proposal ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=194054.0) for improving proof-of-stake participation. NVC is a fork of ppcoin where Balthazar is doing experimental things pretty freely. Novacoin is similar to PPcoin in using stake, isn't it? I expect it is also similar in being lopsided, vast numbers of coins coming out in first few minutes, hours, days etc.
A big difference now exists though apparently, since the big stakeholders of Novacoin have apparently decided that 1% per year is not enough loot, they are increasing the interest rate. The rich weren't getting richer fast enough I guess.
I kind of hope we won't see PPCoin go the same route...

Sunny have you seen the NashX exchange? It seems like a safer way for parties to trade than the old web of trust model though not as flexible as an intelligent escrow agent. http://nashx.com/AboutThanks for the heads up, I will closely watch the development of alternative trading platforms.

How can I prevent that someone is placing fake sell/buy orders with my forum user name?
I was able to enter the site "stealing" the identity of other forum users and even with ficticious names. For testing purposes only, obviously. There should really be some kind of authentication.
Right, you can't. You can cancel the fake listings if it happens to you. This feature of ppcoin.org is only meant to be a place to help PPC users to trade with each other, more like a replacement for google doc plus sort of classified ads. Let's see how much of a demand there is first, so that developers can decide whether it's worthwhile to invest in creating full-fledged marketplace solutions.

Weekly Update #41 - ppcoin.org marketplace is now live (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=224012.0) with minimum features. This marketplace helps facilitate trading between forum users. It is intended to encourage trading with PPC as currency. We do not intend to run commercial marketplace websites as it's not our area of expertise. In my opinion our development resource is better spent elsewhere. So we look forward to community created auction/retail market websites. This marketplace will serve as a good exercise for us to web-of-trust rating system.
- Not much else to report on this week. So have a fun week!

Now limited testing of minimum functionality at http://ppcoin.org/marketSupport posting buy/sell offers for given asset type. Support user created asset types. If you are a new altcoin supporter you are welcome to trade it with ppcoin in this marketplace. Please note: the marketplace is intended to address user-to-user trading, currently only support trading among bitcointalk forum users. More features would be introduced to better support user trading. It is not meant to be an all-inclusive marketplace like amazon/ebay. We do not manage user accounts/personal information. Please exercise care and common sense when trading with other forum users. We are not responsible for your loss due to trading dispute/scam. The offers listed on the marketplace should not be interpreted as contract obligation, please contact the listing user for further information. Please report bugs in this thread. Have fun!
