361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: why did most alts never take off with the chinese? on: April 30, 2017, 01:01:48 AM
Who makes the ASIC hardware? Grin

Haha, maybe this is the answer to the question. Perhaps they were satisfied by monopolizing the creation of Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Dash, so they feel no need to get super involved with other cryptos... until it is profitable to make more ASICs on other chains.

It works both ways though. They also have their own set of ALT coins that are super popular in China, but have not really gained popularity elsewhere. Notice these coins are pretty much only traded on Chinese exchanges, but still exchange for a large volume as far as alt coins are concerned: VPNCoin, YbCoin, Antshares, etc..
362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: When will the bubble pop?? on: April 30, 2017, 12:19:17 AM
About the bubble.  I'm not so sure bitcoin itself is in a bubble, but these shitcoins most definitely are.

I don't mean to say that Bitcoin is in a longterm bubble, but it is certainly nearing a short term bubble. It has bubbled at least twice before, and I don't think it is immune to it.

You should share your answer! In my experience, these are really hard to predict.

That's the thing, they are super hard to predict. I am thinking it is a matter of months. Whether it be a couple months or closer to a year's worth of months is where it gets murky for me. If I had to pick one, I would say closer to two months than a year's worth of months.

This is pure speculation though  Roll Eyes

Yep, that's the fun part about this. All posts will be purely speculation- no one is right or wrong. I am just interested in everyone else's guesstimates!

I guess the question is about "When current train will crush, so that you could jump on the newly build one?"

Effectively, yes, that is the question. Correctly guesstimating this question (and acting on it) can allow you to increase your crypto portfolio by quite a lot. Probably at least 4x to 5x the current value.
363  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / When will the bubble pop?? on: April 29, 2017, 11:31:29 PM
Anyone that has been around here for a while probably realizes that the crypto markets are in a bubble. There have been crazy gains over the past year and/or months, and the upward trend is simply unsustainable forever. It may be time to start considering diversifying into more stable assets, such as FIAT/commodity derivatives such as bitUSD, Tether, bitGold, bitSilver, Nubits, etc... (any other suggestions?)

Now, to the point of this thread... my question is not if, but when do you think the bubble will pop? Are we talking weeks, months, or another year+? I know my answer, but I am curious what everyone else thinks.
364  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Predictions on the next PIVX, POSW, INSANE, etc on: April 29, 2017, 11:24:33 PM
Why does Burst have potential? Is it because of the novel PoW scheme in which miners use hard drive space to mine coins, or is it something else?

I ask because if it is the former, then I don't think that automatically equates to it having potential. There are probably hundreds of coins with novel PoW consensus algorithms, and most of them are practically worthless. I do not think that is really what makes cryptocurrencies valuable.
365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Differences Nem, lisk, ark and ethereum on: April 29, 2017, 12:02:23 AM
I don't get all the hate about Javascript.

It is immensely more popular than any other smart co tract programming language.

Callback hell is a result of poor implementation and can be avoided. It is not a direct result of the language itself.

366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tether/USDT Security on: April 28, 2017, 06:22:59 PM
They are a lot less vulnerable to hacking and all, but since they're centralized I they are vulnerable to seizure and the like.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the Omni layer has a feature that allows asset issuers to seize funds. Thus, Omni layer assets (like Tether) are not subject to seizure. They can still be seized the old fashioned way though, the same way any other cryptocurrency or assets can be seized.
367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitTorrent Cryptocurrency on: April 28, 2017, 05:28:06 PM
Interesting.

I think BitTorrent and Cryptocurrencies could go well together somehow. I am not exactly sure how or what project will "win" yet. There are already a few projects that are working on this or something similar. I am minimally invested in:

vTorrent:
- Incentivize seeders and uploaders
- Publish torrent metadata on the blockchain for search purposes (decentralized piratebay)
- The dev is weird/unresponsive and doesnt give many updates, it may be a scam I am not sure... but I only have some change in it just in case it blows up.

Visio:
- Already integrated with IPFS (decentralized internet)
- Already stores IPFS hash (web address) to content
- Already has a website integrated with IPFS for movie streaming (http://www.visio.wtf/)
- You can also do all of the above in the downloadable wallet
- Active and responsive dev

I've been looking into other projects along the same lines too. I found Atmos (Novusphere.io), but there seems to be a lot of discontent from ICO participants. Similar to the discontent from vTorrent token owners.

I think Visio currently has the edge, but I have yet to figure out how they are planning on monetizing everything and bringing value to the Visio token. I kind of agree that making people pay for things will not be very popular. The only other alternative I can think of is using inflation to add incentive like Steem does, but this didn't work out very well for Steem. So, who knows...
368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt coins worth buying on: April 28, 2017, 02:32:35 AM
-Deflationary.
-Next block halving in less than 30 days.

It is actually inflationary... any cryptocurrency that prints new coins to pay as block rewards to PoW miners is inflationary. In most cases, inflation decreases over time until the max supply is reached, then it can be considered as having neutral inflation.

I am not endorsing this coin, nor am I choosing choosing the antagonistic side, but I am just simply pointing out that it is definitely not deflationary.
369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] 📁 novusphere.io 📁 atmos (ATMS) 📁 Open Development 📁 on: April 28, 2017, 01:22:28 AM
What economic incentives are planned for purchasers of the ATMS cryptocurrency? Will there be a service provided that can only be purchased with ATMS, or...? How is the coin being integrated into the wallet that would benefit Visio token owners? Where is the value here?

371  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Twitter-like app based on bockchain? on: April 28, 2017, 12:03:38 AM
Thanks, this is actually exactly what I searched for. I read through the project. Unfortunately there are no explanations about how the project will prevent to post and share illegal stuff. They promote the product as decentralized and censor-free but not what that strategies are to avoid criminal unethical content.

Hopefully they won't censor or remove any posts. I am sick and tired of all these "decentralized" projects implementing censorship/moderator oracles. It is not a decentralized market if someone(s) have control over what is bought and sold. Likewise, it is not decentralized social media if someone(s) can censor posts.

Was everyone's balls snipped at birth by their government overlords? Cryptocurrencies should be utilized to avoid government intervention and censorship. If cryptocurrencies settle for anything less than that, then they are ultimately a waste of money, time, and effort. Go use a centralized service like Twitter if that's what you're after.
372  Other / Meta / Re: Where are you 'Iamnotback'? on: April 27, 2017, 11:01:24 PM
That sucks for him, but it is probably for his own good (if he wants to finish his project.) It is doubtful he would ever finish his project if he continued posting here at rhe same frequency. I am developing something too, and I know that if I waste too much time here... time flies by and I get nothing done.
373  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin value going down on news of SegWit? on: April 27, 2017, 12:02:19 PM
Buy the rumor, sell the news.

It is simply a correction. The price has gone way up over the past month. When the dust settles, its value will still be above its old value.

We probably won't see another LTC pump until there is news that Segwit is close to being released on the main chain and/or until it does.

@denny, haha... as I hit post I see that you beat me to it. 😁
374  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't fall for "smart contract" platforms. on: April 27, 2017, 11:54:05 AM
OP... I think time will prove you wrong. Smart contracts are in their infancy, and we already have useful ones. The space will take time to develop, as complicated smart contracts can't be developed overnight. Although you may not see the value now, I think the value will be more easily perceivable in a few years once more working smart contracts are in the wild.
375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Critics Against Steemit on: April 26, 2017, 04:05:28 AM
Because of the critics , steemit should crawl with low prices.

I don't think it is the critics that are at fault here. Steem set themselves up for the well deserved criticism.

Whether it be the sketchy instamine-like month long PoW launch in which several insiders gained a huge percentage of the tokens, or the flawed economics that make up the Steem ecosystem. Both are valid criticisms.

It was not an "instamine" or sketchy in any way...
The PoW launch was deliberately oblique for US legal reasons...
And you needed excellent tech skills to get in on the mining.

They were actually begging people to mine STEEM on the Bit-whatever Forum.

Call it what you want, but one of the biggest turnoffs of Steem is the initial distribution. I am not the only one that feels that way, because I have seen the same complaint repeated from numerous people since its inception. It was definitely sketchy.
376  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any coin has Dpos like ark? on: April 25, 2017, 03:10:53 PM
NEM is the biggest

Wait Nem is also Dpos?

Didn't know that

No, NEM is PoI... Proof of Importance. Pretty different from dPoS. Each node has a chamce to harvest a block depending on how "important" they are. Your ‘Vested Balance’, who you send money with, how often you send money, and how much you send are all considered when figuring out how important you are. It is more similar to regular PoS than dPoS.
377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Blocknet] The internet of blockchains | XBridge | true cross-chain P2P on: April 24, 2017, 10:33:22 PM
Yeah who with all the block is dumping I wonder. Seems a strange decision.

It is just a correction. It's not too suprisng with the huge uptrend recently. People are taking profits. I wouldn't be surprised to see it come down further in the short term. It is still undervalued though. 😁
378  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Have all the old Altcoin'ers left Crypto ? on: April 24, 2017, 01:12:53 PM
TLDR;

It is a new wave of scammy ICO supporters for ROI'z

yes. you are correct, sir!

I can agree with that. I welcome honest new users, and do care what they have to say if they are honest, but I think a lot of them are sock puppets used to push agendas. Whether it be pumping up a coin or FUDing a competitor. Some just create them to farm signature campaigns and don't provide much value with their posts (as in real or educated cryptocyrrency conversation.)

I can proudly say that I have never posted under a sock puppet account. I hope my post count makes that believable. 😂
379  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: About the USDT on: April 24, 2017, 12:51:31 PM
Another thing to consider is that even though they may have they USD reserves to back up all the Tethers, it doesn't mean they will be able to maintain the 1$ peg. If they are having trouble transferring money, then that could very likely also mean that they are having trouble getting USD to the exchanges. If the crypto market goes on a bear run, then they may not be able to get enough money on exchanges to place the buy orders keep the price near $1.

Now Tether is at $9.20... a new all time low.
380  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyway to "Cold Storage" USDT ? on: April 24, 2017, 04:10:59 AM
I haven't really used this feature in the past but I noticed that with Poloniex you are able to withdraw the USDT. Since the price is very high at the moment, was wondering if its possible to withdraw this, keep it in cold storage somewhere? Since I don't want to keep large amounts in exchanges where I don't have the private key.

Searching and Googling doesn't really provide much info, and the technology seems pretty new still.

Wondering if someone can give some input.

A normal bitcoin paper wallet generated in all the normal secure ways will work fine. Send the coins to that wallet address.

When you want to spend them then download and sync up the Blockchain with the Omni Layer full node and import the private key.

Yep, you can send any Omni/Counterparty asset to regular Bitcoin cold wallet and later retrieve it by restoring the private key. I have done it before and can confirm it works. Smiley
Can I store USDT in a ledger nano S?

Hmm, I am not familiar with the ledger nano S. I gues it is a hardware wallet? Any wallet, whether it be a hardware wallet or not, where you can retrieve the private key to your Bitcoin address would work for Omni/Counterparty assets.
