Well, the error rate was stupid high again and poolside looks like garbage so I'm gonna call that experiment a failure.

Hey, thats a good start, i wouldn't be surprised that's its another simple little thing again, maybe the com lines crossed? didn't tweak your tong the right way when you soldered them down?
362  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1800 TH] Kano CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: May 19, 2015, 02:53:33 AM

I'm sure people can PM you if they want Smiley

..and i vise versa

...
if you want me to move this outa here kano, just say the word (or con could just move this post as a new thread?) or delete it.

random comments like this are ok unless it turns into a buy/sell discussion, then I'll delete it.
Directly selling stuff here will also be deleted.
Also, yeah you've mentioned it twice now - that's enough Smiley

no prob, i'll leave it at that Smiley
364  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: May 19, 2015, 01:26:25 AM
As soon as people stop asking that question.
:-)

"Are we there yet?"  Huh

one day before release, im going to ask this question, and i laugh evilly as everyone squirms and it gets pushed back about 2 weeks
365  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1800 TH] Kano CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: May 19, 2015, 01:14:46 AM

the Silabs CP2102 chips pop on them. plug the usb into them, they get hot enough to leave a burn mark on your skin

Sorry for ot, if anyone can help with this it would be appreciated. I too have 2 of these New R-box with the same problem. Powers up but usb is totally dead. Any ideas pm me.

and just to get back on topic..
Congratulations everyone on the recent blocks!! Guess it's true "when it rains, it pours."
Thank you Kano for running the best most transparent pool there is. Everyone appreciates your tireless efforts!
Hash on!!

the only thing i attempted (and failed, killed the other in the process) was trying to run a usb to serial into the TX/RX pins on the micro-controller.

in the mean time, anyone willing to sell me cheap hardware? (postage outside into australia will be a killer though) im happy with 200GH/s (or more? Cheesy)

if you want me to move this outa here kano, just say the word (or con could just move this post as a new thread?) or delete it.

I just bought a funked up S1 from fleabay. I'm gonna steal the control card from that and reflash to s3+ to put in this brick. I should have that back up by Thurs. (or sooner) I've tried everything else.

Oh well, sorry AJRGale doesn't have any hardware at the moment Sad

We just found our 4th block in 18 hours Smiley

that be about right, i get off, blocks, blocks everywhere!

What's wrong /w your r-Box110's? I have a little experience with those and now some experience with s3's. MAYBE I can help. Not sure but willing to try. Up to you.

weeeeee......I see we've been very lucky lately. Oh boy.

Hey, anybody had any luck will Bitmain tech support? I still haven't heard from them.

367  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive RockMiner New R-Box Setup [HD] on: May 18, 2015, 03:02:00 AM
Tell me, would anyone know how to wire up an old Block Eruptor to one of these, and get it running? im hoping i could just pull the "mud" chip off and throw a few wires up (some single strand core, cat5 cable should do) and directly connect it to the atmega..

What do you mean by wire up a BE to the R-Box?

using the old BE as a USB to UART (eg: USB ->Silabs chip -> tx/rx -> atmega on the nr-b)

Let me chime in with all the others to say thanks Kano! You and CK do a great job keeping everything up and running!
 Grin

AWWWW....no freakin' way...oh, yes way...I just bricked my S3+. Crap...there goes my main miner. Sorry...gonna be in limp mode until I get a break-out board.

edit; not that I was top of the leader board anyway.

edit2; aww...crap, I think I really did it! Thought I'd try a trick...no luck. Switching to that forum...but I am screwed!!!

Ha! you know, my best miner threw a leg outa bed too, im back to running the crappy "new r-box" that cant get over 70GH/s, so you're not alone brother!
i think ive worked mine to be the usb to serial converter, im hoping i can talk to it via rs232, once i work out what the pinout is..

Well, in attempts to repair my miner(remove the dead usb - uart chip, wire up the controller to external usb - uart controller) thanks to the Lack of protection from USB to the chipset, just a little voltage spike (probably on the data line), the 2nd and last of my miners crapped out its own usb-uart chip.

Kano, CK, Thankyou for EVERYTHING. im out, not going to buy anymore miners for some time (maybe when gekko gets theirs out).

By Gekko do you mean the guys who do the server PSU boards?

Are they coming out with a miner? If not, please let me know. I looked on their site, but didn't see anything. Thanks in advance.

Nevermind... I found the thread here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=995675.0

Should be interesting.

Yep, that be them and their project. 10GH/s for less then 2.5W, on a USB stick? i want 500 of them! like hell i could afford it though, i be pushing to get 10 i think, even if they are as cheap as $1/GH (i think they will be more along the lines of $3/GH).

Like i said, my only 2 "Good" miners (2x "New R-Box's" one half shot) went belly up and nothing to get any more, i think i have to sit back and wait now. unless someone knows how to repair miners with burned out Silabs chips? (i was thinking of using my only 2 good usb block eruptors and wire them up to the ATMega chip, but i don't know where my thin soldering point went.)
370  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive RockMiner New R-Box Setup [HD] on: May 18, 2015, 12:51:21 AM
Given proximity to the AtMega and the typical 3x2 layout, I'd imagine that's the ISP port; http://www.atmel.com/images/doc0943.pdf
Wouldn't really do you much good unless you wanted to flash new firmware to that chip.

i suspect that you are highly right. looking into this chip, the pins 30/31 look like rx/tx pins, so i could solder something up to them, but 1st i may have to de-solder the dead silabs CP2102 and look for the rx/tx pins to it. may look for continuity between them pins.

it just peeves me off that this is the 3rd product ive owned that does not have protection (eg: usb data bus fuses) between the usb and the uart chip..

im going to hunt out some wiring, solder and a 4x1 pin joby, and attempt this tonight, been a little to busy last few days to attempt it.

Whilst im at it, think its worth getting one of them silabs usb-uart converter (plug, pins and chip on a black pcb) off ebay for $1.50? just to rip off the chip and solder it into place?

Well, attempted to wire up the UART out off the micro-controller and remove the cp2102 chip, and guess what, the second miner crapped out its cp2102. so 2 dead miners, all i have left mining is 0GH/s. Its been fun guys, but now im out of the game

I always replace a surge protector after it's been hit...even if it doesn't have the unforgiving order of burnt wiring. Cheaper than replacing the equipment. Thing is, I buy the good ones and go thru ~5 per year. It gets expensive. Keep all the ideas coming for moving these out to the garage. Also, remember it's FL and my garage ain't ACed. Suggestions to keep these somewhat cool? No windows, all cinderblock, not knocking a hole in the wall. lol ( I just know someone was gonna suggest that). Don't know about that problem either. So...got a network to figure out and cooling.

BTW: Thanks group...

hmm.. knock a hole in the wall? ;P

cinder should hold out most of the heat, what's the roof like? tin over beams or got a floating roof? can you pop a vent fan in it (one of them passive domed spiny things) that should remove the stale air out, other then that if the miners don't pass 70 degrees celcius (or 158.0 °F, i think) in there you should be right.  plant natives around the building? put some shade up around the side of it? make a 2nd face on the roof with a 6" airgap?

maybe even bury the whole building under 6' of dirt? pipe some air vents 6' underground and some though the roof? heat pipe the roof to ground? umm..

nah, just get a jack hammer and pop a few holes into the cinder Cheesy

There's always one in the crowd, ain't there.    Huh

Thanks...needed some humor this morning. Got the tracking number.....I gotsta get'r done. Don't want it sitting there doing nothing. Hmmm

you asked for it, really, you did.

basically, if you can move the warm air out (roof vent) and pull cooler air in from shaded area (screen door). it should do.

as for network, cat5, if you're going simplex or 10Mb/s you should get about 1000m (3280'). at 100Mb/s you can only get 100m (330') out of it.

Wireless could do if, and since kano recommends it try out them powerline networkers, slap one on the powerline out to the shed and the other one to the power to the miners
374  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: May 15, 2015, 02:34:32 PM
Production costs should be relatively unchanged - it'd just mean another pass on the pick-and-place and another bake, with a different thermal profile and a different solder paste with a different melting point... yeah, it'd suck.

I've already lost two weeks to the previous regulator design, and one week to figuring out what's going wrong with this board. Though admittedly I did kinda waste a few of those days not being terribly productive.

The breakout boards will probably allow me to skip some official revisions. I'm hoping the Amita will be pretty much a hole in one, if I can iron out the main details on the new multi-chip breakout and build it as an extension of the Compac with the same power and comms.

man didn't build Rome in a day, or 2 weeks. nether did they get to the moon with apollo 1. you live to learn, we are enjoying your stories of your adventure you're taking. i don't thing people take you kidneys or knees if you fail this concept. you have kept up on what's going on, we appreciate this.

No one in their right mind would run a company server, desktops over a powerline, but a miner is OK.
If you have 100 miners on the other end, you simply put ckproxy there and it's equivalent to not a lot more than one miner Tongue

I ran quite a few miners over the link for years - on the old setup and of course on the (old but newer) faster more reliable setup.
I only have one there at the moment - S5 - coz it's way too loud - the S3s are now upstairs to keep the place warm - it's winter in 2 weeks Smiley

My garage miner connection is:
miner - switch - powerline<->powerline - switch - linux router - switch - powerline<->powerline - adls modem - phone line to local exchange
Been running OK for years Smiley

but kano, i Like haxn' peoples unsecured powerline networks! i think they should run Everything off it! thats how i can get into their "Nest" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nest_Labs) box and turn on all their lights and put the heaters on max...

Thank goodness for power/surge protection...just got zapped. Had to restart everything. That happens a lot here in FL.

                                 Shocked       LIGHTNING       Angry

oh gawd.. no magical blue smoke? that protection did its job

ive seen what lightning does to things, even when its miles away.

many many moons ago, had a storm, lightning hit the distribution block. many things like TVs, microwave, power strip, etc. had black points and melted plastics, i think i was only 5 then..

now that im in the business of repairing PCs, every time there is a large storm, 5-6 PSUs i need to replaced around the town

none the less, seeing as lightning kills things, im happy your stuff isn't dead. but replace the surge protector, it may not see you out again, if you are still using it.

valkir I think you should move the BTC to the back of the shirt; it looks odd in the corner up front.  Either that or replace the "on" with the BTC.  What do you think?  I kind of like the:

keep
calm
and
sidehack
BTC

Thanks for the idea! Since there is already some shirt that have been buy I will keep it like that! Mayeb next Shirt!  Wink

Go Go Go! More shirt mean more profit for Sidehack mean more help for him!  Grin

do a 2nd one with:

Just checked again, somehow it got jumped to international shipping as being that price. Domestic US still says four bucks.

I probably won't buy one. How weird is it to buy a t-shirt with your own name on it so you can get the profits? I'll just support the project in a more... direct way.

But sure.

If anyone wants to make a GekkoScience t-shirt (http://gekkoscience.com/header.png) I might buy that. We've been needing to get t-shirts made one of these days anyway. Not like we've been thinking about it for a year. Not like one of our former minions got a job at a local screen-printing business either. Nope, not at all.

Just to update about these things, the fans, they are not 80mm fans, they are in fact 72mm fans, went to replace one of them that lost 2 blades, lo' and behold, 80mm fan out of a psu does not fit. now to hunt out a smaller fan.

Oh, hat are these 6 pins next to the USB port, is that rs323? and what pin does what?

kinda need that info after plugging in 2nd "new r-box" onto the system and the 1st popped its usb to serial chip (it will not be seen at all via usb again, how i know its fried? it leaves 1st degree burns when touching the chip)

Fixed, remeasured and they are indeed 72mm which is pretty uncommon. You could screw a 60mm into one corner if you can't get hold of anything larger, or strap the 80mm external to the case.

Which pins are you looking at, can you mark them on this picture?

hang on... i forgot how to use gimp, i'll crop the image to the pins

they are between the leds and usb port. sorry, didn't make it clear enough last post.
