3681  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: If btc are in hardware wallet, then how to claim forks? on: October 06, 2022, 02:52:36 PM
For ledger nano, putting the wrong pin 3 times is a recommended way by the manufacturer to reset the device. It will never brick it.
I know that works for ledger devices but it's not the same universal answer for all other hardware wallets, so it's not good to give him general answer like you did.
3 wrong pins is low for any wallet in my opinion, for example, Trezor hardware wallet it was 16 failed attempts but delay time was longer each time you enter wrong pin, and after this device will be wiped.
I didn't research in details all other hardware wallets, but it's possible I would do it in near future, this is important for device security.

I didn't know about this brick feature in coldcard. I saw in their docs that they have an especific pin to break the device, which is called brick me pin
Yeah and Coldcard sometimes bricks even by itself, if it has SD card inside  Cheesy
I would like to hear from n0nce and how PIN thing works with Passport wallet.
3682  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Best cold wallet for BTC storage? on: October 06, 2022, 01:49:24 PM
I heard that hardware wallets are the way to prevent that... but what would be the best one?
All I really need is for it to be functional and have Bitcoin support.
All hardware wallets usually support Bitcoin but they are not all the same and you don't even have to buy them if you only want to store Bitcoin.
You can use your old laptop, make it offline without internet connection, format it and install fresh encrypted Linux OS with Electrum wallet.
Alternative option is to use your laptop in combination with Tails OS and Electrum wallet for making transaction.

I heard that Trezor or Ledger hardware wallets are pretty good... but what do you guys think?
I would never buy ledger wallet again, it is closed source, it has bad quality control, and it is mostly oriented towards shitcoins.
Trezor wallet is better, it is open source but it doesn't have secure element yet, so it can be less secure if used without passphrase.
Hardware wallets are quick and easy solution, but you should be careful how you purchase them, and what data you leave as that often gets hacked and leaked online.
Topic I made [LIST] Open Source Hardware Wallets is worth checking out for more information, but I think that Trezor, Bitbox, Passport and Keystone are all OK.

PS
You don't have to write your full name, workplace and email address with your full history here...
3683  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do not use your phone number for crypto registration and other crypto related th on: October 06, 2022, 01:32:43 PM
There are few exchanges that allow users to create account using their mobile phone numbers, compare to using email account I think phone numbers has more risk than email account, if you are a newbie and you want to create an account on a exchange please use an email address instead.
Using email is a much better option and you can easily create almost unlimited amount of normal and temporary emails, but problem is that some exchanges and services are asking for mandatory phone numbers.
If you must use phone numbers than you can try using temporary voip numbers or buy prepaid cards without connection with your real identity.
Note that Bisq exchange wont ask you for email, home address, passport or your phone number Wink
3684  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Indiegogo launch - help us! :o on: October 06, 2022, 01:04:52 PM
If somebody put the hands in you paper or cryptosteel, he can read and stole your crypto. But if you store your seed in CryptoPlatz Card, he can't ready and stole, because is encrypted.
Yes, but they can't have my coins if I have one or more strong passphrases on top of my paper or metal plate.
CryptoPlatz is encrypted, but if customer used weak password that it can be hacked and extracted by someone who knows how to do it.
I am not saying CryptoPlatzdon't have some advantages, but it's certainly not universally perfect solution.

The password is optional, if you use, will be encrypted.
Wait a minute, if password is only optional than there is no real difference compared to regular paper or metal plate.

Yes, you are correct. This is a prototype in PVC. Because that we are on https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/cryptoplatz-card to manufactory in metal stainless.
I guess you could create some free campaign or beta testing for this prototype PVC cards, and if everything works fine you could probably collect funds easier on indiegogo.
Problem I have with stainless steel material over NFC chip is that it could block the antenna signal and not work in the real life.
3685  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: If btc are in hardware wallet, then how to claim forks? on: October 06, 2022, 12:34:56 PM
Just put the wrong pin 3 times and it is wiped out. Just generate a new wallet.
I would be very careful doing this wrong pin entering, and I would never suggest that to any newbie as it can brick some hardware wallets and make then unusable forever.
All hardware wallets I know have option to reset and wipe them from menu settings and I would always choose that option first.
I think that Coldcard wallet get's bricked after entering wrong PIN 13 times.

Forks may be worth a considerable amount of money if they are converted to btc as fast as possible. They are all scams but they are worth money when forked.
All those forks are not really free money, because you are exposing your addresses and sometime even your private keys just to receive few bucks.
Not to mention that constantly chasing next fork you could easily get scammed if you are not careful.
3686  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Coldcard on: October 06, 2022, 12:21:04 PM

3687  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Asking about anonymity when I pay with Bitcoin on: October 06, 2022, 12:04:46 PM
A lot of people are missing the point that a certain exchange or DEX not asking for KYC doesn't mean every trade you executed on their platform is totally anonymous.
You need to read the exchange Tos, check if the site is not using Cloudflare (which is enough to track you down), and also use the Tor browser
Most DEX exchanges are not really decentralized (except maybe Bisq) but this should not be confused with anonymity or with IP addresses.
You can easily change your IP address with Tor or VPN, but IP address should not reveal your identity directly.
Cloudflare is a problem, they are supporting bunch of shitcoin nodes and they just censored Tornado Cash IPFS app bundle.

Almost all services sell your data. There's easy ways to find this out by just using a clean email address. It's almost to the point its comical. They either do this according to their terms of service, or they ask you for permission to do this or even worse they just do it illegally. Normally, when you bring this issue up to them, they'll offer you come sort of compensation, which is also wrong, but I won't even go into that.
Almost all...so are you excluding Bitcointalk forum from this? Wink
Even if they don't sell data, this can (and probably will) easily be hacked and exploited at some point in future.
3688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin hash rate hits new all-time high! on: October 05, 2022, 03:08:58 PM
I am curious that maybe there are some miners who switch from Ethereum to Bitcoin because Ethereum now is on POS, so this could be a factor too.
They can't use shitereum GPU miners for mining Bitcoin, except maybe with some nicehash workaround, but that probably wouldn't create this all-time high.
Maybe people sold their GPU and purchased ASIC miners, but price for used GPU's dropped very low that I don't think this would make any sense.
Bitcoin is far from dead, and it's the only blockchain network in the world that doesn't have censorship or ofac compliance built in.

It is possible to mine Bitcoin with GPU / Graphic Cards, isn't it?
I think it was possible with Nicehash before, but I am not sure if that is profitable now.
3689  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Indiegogo launch - help us! :o on: October 05, 2022, 02:57:41 PM
You can use any app like (NFC tools) to use our card (it is industry standard) to write and read information stored on the card
Ok that is better, but I am careful with anything that uses NFC, that is just short range antenna, so in theory it can be hacked.

For now, it is in test, so please take a look on this video
Card on this video doesn't look like it's made from stainless steel to me.
I would remove word Crypto from card or add something like CP shortcut with logo, to avoid getting attention from bad people.

There are similar apps, but they are cryptocurrency wallet. CryptoPlatz it is not a wallet, it is a storage to save you seed recovery phrase. CryptoPlatz it is compatible with Trezor, Ledger, Exodus, TrustWallet and any other wallet that demand you to save the seed recovery phrase on a paper.
No, I am sure Satochip/Satodime/SeedKeeer and one other company (can't remember the name) have cards who can be used only for storing recovery phrase.
Maybe they are not made from stainless steel but they work in similar way like Crypto Platz.

PS
Please lock your other topic.
There is no need to have multiple topics with same content in forum.
3690  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Zak Servers has launched cPanel SEO in partnership with cPanel, BTC Accepted on: October 05, 2022, 02:50:34 PM
BTC is accepted as a payment method by Zak Servers.
I tried to make a test purchase one domain with cPanel SEO Starter using Bitcoin, but I needed to enter all my personal information and I didn't want to do that.
Is there a way I could make a purchase in anonymous way without entering all this stuff, and can you tell me how exactly you accept Bitcoin payments, using third party service or something else?
3691  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: buying cryptocurrencies with a payoneer account on: October 05, 2022, 02:42:23 PM
What options are there when buying cryptocurrencies with a payoneer account?
I know there are some small unknown exchanges accepting Payoneer payments and you can find then on BestChange.com website, but always read their terms carefully and accept risks in doing trades like this.
You could also try finding reputable forum members who are trading with Payoneer funds in Currency exchange board, but don't just trust any random newbie for this.
Last option is to find someone in your local area who is willing to sell your Bitcoin any way you want.

Bisq is a great, secure and private way to buy cryptocurrencies, and you can check out the list of accepted payment methods here.
He probably uses their debit card, but that is besides the point, and I am sure Bisq doesn't support Payoneer payments yet.
3692  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gary Gensler's SEC sues Crypto Influncers and posts on his Twitter as propaganda on: October 05, 2022, 02:23:46 PM
Great news for all of cryptocurrencies about now, huh, wouldn't you agree?
This is going to drive away mainstream investors and have an affect for the rest of the Crypto Winter that we are all in right now.
Not sure if this is great news for Bitcoin, they could easily turn their guns towards Bitcoin in the same way with a slight story change.
I don't trust anything that government does, they don't care about people and they don't want people to have any freedom, especially with the money.
Just wait until they switch into fifth gear with their CBDC crap soon, and than you will see similar twitter posts about Bitoin.  Tongue
Shame (for them) they can't find, arrest and prosecute the real Satoshi Nakamoto  Wink
3693  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHAT HAPPENS TO BITCOIN IF ATLANTIC INTERNET CABLES ARE CUT OFF? on: October 05, 2022, 02:19:05 PM
So have any of you been wondering what happens to the Bitcoin network if the Atlantic internet cables are cut off?
It's easy to imagine internet is going to transformed in future, to provide more censorship for restrictions, so it's possible we could see temporary connection breaks for some regions.
I think that United States and few other countries even have their own internet kill switch, so they don't even need to blow up anything (again).
Internet going of in one continent won't break Bitcoin, longest chain will survive, and fork won't happen but certain regions could be cut off for a while.

Would Elon Musks Starlink satellites still keep the Bitcoin network up and running if all the cables are cut? Assuming the miners would use that as back up solution?
No they won't, unless he can profit from this.
Elon Musk doesn't care about Bitcoin at all, and all his business is mostly based on fumes.
Never forget what he did with Bitcoin.
3694  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin + MetaMask? on: October 05, 2022, 02:11:13 PM
Technically, I get that Bitcoin isn't an ERC20 token so it's not compatible with MetaMask which is Ethereum-based, but there's the option of wrapped BTC right? So does it even make sense to add Bitcoin support for MetaMask? Seems like a low priority.
Wrapped bitcoin tokens are NOT Bitcoin, and it's silly to think that Bitcoin would need any support for this with wallets like metamask Roll Eyes
All this tokens are centralized and controlled by few individuals and companies, so it's a big risk holding anything in this tokens or using any bridges.
Other huge issue is censorship that exist on shitereum and other blockchains are even worse, 45% of all ETH validators are censoring transactions, with 29% of all blocks being OFAC compliant and the number is growing all the time!
Nobody should use this blockchain for anything, or they could end up with unusable frozen coins.
3695  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Indiegogo launch - help us! :o on: October 05, 2022, 02:03:00 PM
Check it out the product that we are going to launch
How exactly do we enter words into this Crypto Platz Metal Card?
If this is done only with your app in digital form with encryption, that means we probably can't recover seed words in any other way, so I see this a single point of failure.
I like that stainless steel is used, but I personally prefer entering seed words directly in physical form with engraving, and I think there are other cards that work in similar way like yours.
Current price of $100 is to high for me, until I see some stress testing and code review.
3696  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BTCapsule is a Bitcoin Time Capsule to leave your private keys as an inheritance on: October 05, 2022, 10:49:24 AM
I updated the OP to show where the time sources are coming from. The time source is from the internet using the Network Time Protocol.
So this means that if I don't have active internet connection than I can't use BTCapsule at all?
It's not that hard to set up fake NTP server that is showing wrong time and using that server will fool BTCapsule and alleged timelock.
You can manually select NTP server in your operation system, so this means you can have any time you want, if you know how to do it.

I’m giving the idea of making it open source serious consideration. I may start a new thread about this, but I have a question. If my code is open source, and that potentially makes it easier for a hacker to exploit the program only if they are in possession of the thumb drive, do you think this would give people more confidence to purchase it?
Maybe it makes it easier for someone to clone your work, but you can also make it with readable only license, so that code can be inspected and verified.
Someone could hack your program even if it's closed source, just look the history of all commercial programs, with their cracks and hacks.
3697  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Did Binance Just Make KYC Process More Private? on: October 05, 2022, 10:23:41 AM
OP try to make your post shorter and readable by human beings.
I really don't understand what are you trying to say, and there is no privacy at all in Binance KYC procedure.

by the way, is there no punctuation marks on your keyboard?
He used it... one time in this post after the word ecosystem Cheesy

I just checked all his post history and it looks like a bunch of nonsense, and probably mix of copy-paste translations and random thoughts from his head.
3698  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: Српски (Serbian) on: October 05, 2022, 09:53:43 AM
https://www.familyhandyman.com/list/the-ultimate-guide-for-secret-hiding-places-in-your-home/

Zasto bi neko bio toliki budala da kaze javno gde drzi seeedphrase..?

3699  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 26 Hardware Wallets, compared feature by feature on: October 04, 2022, 08:10:51 PM
This guide compares feature by feature, 26 different Hardware Wallets available to buy right now
This is another good source for hardware wallets but I didn't see any new information I didn't already know, and they could did a bit more research for exact secure elements and other things.
If what they say is true than only Trezor and Coldcard mk4 hardware wallets can be used as password managers, and that can be a useful thing.
I noticed some hardware wallets are missing, but you can find almost all missing hardware wallets in out local section topic that is maintained by out member FatFork:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5285324.0

If someone can make it in the form of an infographic, it will give detailed and quick information to everyone who wants to compare
Or someone could convert this spreadsheet into bitcointalk forum post tables, maybe with less information if possible.
3700  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BTCapsule is a Bitcoin Time Capsule to leave your private keys as an inheritance on: October 04, 2022, 07:49:27 PM
BTCapsule creates two encrypted text files called year.txt and keys.txt that are stored in the same folder. The year.txt is encrypted, so that nobody can change the year after it’s created. When you run the program a second time, it checks to see if these files exists, decrypts the year.txt, checks the year, and then encrypts it again.
I understand that program creates this files but what sources it uses to fetch exact time information for year.txt file?
Even if it is encrypted it has to use computer time (either from BIOS or from system) or something that is coming from internet connection.
I can't trust this until I see some proof, since this is closed source and it can't be verified in any way.
