Anyone watching the Davis Cup Final 8?
Watching Jannick Sinner play in singles and doubles with Lorenzo Sonego, it can be seen that he is very motivated to bring his country to qualify for the semifinals by beating the Netherlands in the deciding match in doubles.
Interestingly, maybe we will again watch the Jannick Sinner vs Novak Djokovic match because Italy and Serbia will be facing each other in the semifinals, but it could be that the two countries use different strategies to win and the doubles match will be decisive.

Finland being able to reach the semifinals is the most surprising thing and facing Australia they have the opportunity to make another surprise even though their mainstay player did not play in the semifinals.

Australia are 0-1 up on Finland ATM. It was a surprise that Finland got through against
Canada yesterday. This format is different in that the deciding match is a doubles
match and thats what happened in this case.

It is Italy v Serbia tonight which should be a really interesting match up. Yesterdays
match went to a doubles decider with Sinner/Sonego overcoming doubles specialists
Griekspoor/Koolhof.

Aussies are through into the final after defeating giant-killing Finland 2:0. De Minaur continues his flawless performance in Davis Cup by winning Finland's #1 guy Emil Ruusuvuori 6:4, 6:3. Quite an easy win for a Davis Cup semi final if you ask me. Aussies are now waiting for the winner of the second semi (Italy v Serbia) to face them in the final.
382  Economy / Economics / Re: You are the product. Corporations spying on us deeper than we thought? on: November 24, 2023, 07:08:55 PM
Can we discuss it? Perhaps I'm overreacting or being paranoid and there's a simple explanation for this?  Roll Eyes

You're not overreacting or being paranoid. I've had countless "coincidences" (not really coincidences) where what is mentioned in conversation is either appearing on my, or a friend/family member's point of advertising after conversation. It's happened so many times that it's proven rather than conspiracy at this stage (mostly IOS in recallable circumstances)

If you want to confirm it yourself, pick a random, advertiseable product and repeat it in a conversation form, I am sure you will see shortly after that your google ads, Facebook feed, or whatever targets you primarily for advertising will start to show results relating to it.

For example...
"I am really considering catching a flight to the Antarctic to see penguins but I can't find out if that's possible"
"I am really wondering if I can go and walk with penguins in the Antarctic"
"I would pay any amount of money to go and see penguins somewhere, I've never seen one before!"
"I wonder if I can pay someone to pet a penguin"

You can be sure that saying the above a few times in either conversation or just in a room where your phone also sits, that you'll start seeing ads relating to any of the following shortly after or over the coming days:
- Visiting penguins
- Flights to the Antarctic or tours there
- A zoo that has penguins

Zoo, flights and penguins are not standard advertisements...so if they come up, you can be sure that the ad was targeted because of what you said.

Try it and report back with results Wink

Good suggestion, I think I will try this. But IMHO the keywords should be somewhat more down-to-earth so there's a match in their AI system (if one exists). Because if no one is offering tours to the Antarctic in my area there will can be no match and no ad will be delivered. I will try to think of something more realistic which could trigger the ads.
383  Economy / Economics / Re: No Correlation Between Academic Success and Financial Success on: November 24, 2023, 06:19:14 PM
We have seen that it has been debated that there are more A students who work for C students or there are C students who earn more than A students. Personally I don't believe any of this premise. What I believe is that it doesn't matter whether you are an A student or have a high IQ. Rather it's about having the courage to venture into unchattered territories, including taking calculated risk and making the most of the opportunities that lead to high income. In our society today and in the past, the people who have demonstrated audacity and capitalized on privileged advantages to undertake risky yet lucrative business ideas are the ones who end up being of great influence and earn more. Do you agree?

fastercapital.com/startup-topic/Taking-Calculated-Risks.html

I totally agree. I doesn't matter if you're A or C student, what is your IQ etc.  You can be a very successful entrepreneur with virtually any IQ and education. As you have correctly mentioned, you have to be brave, take risks etc but also luck is very important. Without luck, no matter how smart, brave and educated you are, nothing is going to let you become successful.
384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Holders Hesitant to Sell Despite Price Surge on: November 24, 2023, 04:24:42 PM
I think The amount of unused Bitcoin which is now at its highest ever at 70%, shows that people who own it don't want to sell, even when the price goes up. This Bitcoin hasn't been used for over a year. Since Bitcoin reached its highest value in 2021, people who plan to keep it for a long time have shown they really believe in it, despite problems in the market and with the economy.
Bitcoin Percent of supply Last active 1+ years ago

glassnode
Also the amounts of unused Bitcoin for two, three and five years have also reached their highest levels ever showing that these investors are staying strong. Even though Bitcoin's price went up a lot this year to $37,000, the owners don't want to sell it soon. Reflexivity Research thinks selling Bitcoin right away is not likely, even though it's worth more now. But when Bitcoin becomes available in new investment ways like ETFs and futures things might change and the situation might be different details

That's good news, it means more and more people start to understand how Bitcoin works and they know what is coming next. But I guess this is also partly due to ordinals/brc20 token spam and enormous fees.
385  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is the Binance the next to bite the dust or FUD? on: November 24, 2023, 08:42:48 AM
It appears I was quite mistaken in my speculation on CZ might reject the DOJ's settlement offer. However, is CZ's surrender enough for the American government to stop the crackdown on Binance or will it bite the dust? CZ's agreement on the settlement might be a decision created to save the exchange.

In the news they're not disclosing all conditions of the agreement. CZ steps down, it's pretty clear. He has to pay some fine: according to different sources $50-$200 million. And finally, Binance has to pay ~$4-4.3 billion in fines. Additionally, Binance has already reportedly lost ~$200 million when the news on the deal were published. But anyhow, Binance still seems solid as a rock and I don't think we should be worried.
386  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: November 23, 2023, 11:07:10 PM
I agree, that ship has sailed for sure for Nadal. Its probably getting to the stage of a similar expectation by
some people expecting Murray to get to a GS final.
As I posted above there are numerous players which will be in his way.

Anyone watching the Davis Cup Final 8?

Canada v Finland has already played with Finland winning that surprisingly and Czech Republic v Australia
with Australia winning.

Later today we have Italy v Netherlands playing and Serbia v Great Britain playing, Assuming Italy and Serbia
go through I wonder if we will see a Sinner v Djokovich match again before the year end?
I cant see odds for Italy but they should be favourites against the Netherlands and Serbia are favourites too
for today.

I wouldn't be so sure. If Rafa is to win any ATP title that will definitely be RG. There is some special bond between Rafa and Roland Garros. It's the tournament of his entire career. Perhaps it's wishful thinking but I truly believe Rafa can win RG once again.

As to the Davis Cup, I'll definitely not bet on Italy v Netherlands and Serbia v Great Britain as both these matches promise to be pretty close.
387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is\will Bitcoin become unaffordable to use? on: November 23, 2023, 10:48:38 PM
I saw recently that a transaction was done where the transaction fees were 83.65 BTC to move 139.42btc.

With transaction fees like this, and traffic inevitably going up over the years, will Bitcoin become unaffordable to use?

This is due to some crap tokens like Ordinals, BRC20 and similar... they are spamming the network with hundreds of thousands of useless transactions. So I won't be surprised if we'll indeed reach the fee amounts you mentioned and render Bitcoin unusable. That's why it's important to stop this token spam/ddos.

....
OMG, you're hilarious!  Grin I don't even have to respond because you're debunking your own lies literally!  Grin

Neither your "assessment of problems" list nor the article you mentioned (at least Google translated version) doesn't contain any mention of Western sanctions being the reason of USSR collapsing. It reminds me of police reading you your rights to not testify against yourself but you're still self-incriminating  Grin  Tell me, are you retarded?

I can't even add anything, you've done it all yourself.... sanctions don't work!  Grin

Anyways, you still have time to join the military and go meet your heroic compatriots in the eastern front. I know you're too cowardly to do it, right?

Of course, I knew that the intellect and you are two parallel lines Smiley But I didn’t think that you were also far from each other, that even the shadow of the intellect did not fall on you Smiley

Well, ok, it’s not difficult for me, I’ll explain.
There are words written there that are incomprehensible to you:
- decrease in economic growth rates;
- chronic shortage of food and consumer goods;
- the growing scientific and technical lag of the USSR from Western countries;
- exhaustion of the possibilities of the extensive economy;

This means:
- in the USSR they could no longer support the economy due to its degradation
- the economy of the USSR during this period became so weak that the economy of the BIGGEST COUNTRY in the world, with 40% of all earth resources, could not even provide its residents with food!
- due to the impossibility of receiving technology from the West, the USSR could not produce high-tech goods, because its own economy was weak, and “every day” it was getting weaker.
- but this one will be difficult. The word “extensive economy” has clearly broken the remains of your gray matter Smiley But I always help the weaker, and even the intellectually weak like you Smiley I will teach you this word. An extensive economy means that the economy is built through new construction, the development of new lands, the use of untouched natural resources, an increase in the number of workers, etc.

Now strain your first vertical brain gyrus and draw a conclusion - if before the sanctions there were no such problems, but after the sanctions they appeared - what was the consequence of such problems, or significantly influenced their appearance? I'm waiting for an interesting answer from your vertical brain gyrus?! Grin Grin Grin

Damn, you're so retarded you pasted your post contents twice!  Grin

Anyway, all this doesn't have anything to do with sanctions. All consequences you have mentioned were in fact caused by highly ineffective and poorly managed planned economy of USSR. But even then USSR could have easily continued to exist. If only the US wouldn't have paid Gorbachev, Yeltsin and national movements in the republics to destroy it. Anyone with at least room temperature IQ understands this.

389  Economy / Economics / Re: You are the product. Corporations spying on us deeper than we thought? on: November 23, 2023, 08:44:36 PM
And what actually happens is that our cellphones are not tapped, but instead you are a social media algorithm system that tries to collect user data and monitor and collect things that its users like. And the results of this algorithm system analysis will later be presented to each user based on what they like. And this is done because currently social media is supported by advertising, so social media is designed to benefit advertisers, not users.
And that can happen, indeed often when we want something we often look for that thing on social media.

My question is: did you read my posts above? I never searched any of that stuff online. I don't want and I don't own the car or the key, I haven't searched it online. And yet I was offered to buy it.

At this point I guess it's pretty clear that they ARE listening and there's some kind of AI processing this info and suggests the ads.

So the point is, do not use whatever is provided by company itself. Try to find alternative that are more secure than the default one.

I wonder how is it possible if we're talking about IOS?
390  Economy / Economics / Re: You are the product. Corporations spying on us deeper than we thought? on: November 22, 2023, 06:55:54 PM
Dude, you're years too late about this stuff, Snowden leaked that NSA is listening to our phone calls and this didn't stopped the US government from continuing that program so who knows how powerful their surveillance system now is? Pretty sure that they're much more powerful now and more sneakier than ever. It should never come as a surprise to everyone that our government is spying on us so the best thing that we can do is just scream expletives about them because they can hear us anyway, might as well let them hear what we feel about them listening to us right?

Let's not mix apples and oranges. I too am aware of governments listening, I was aware of Google/Apple etc spying using search history for example. But this is something new, it only appeared recently. I'm starting to suspect they're using some kind of AI (AdGPT?  Grin) to collect data (via mic and possibly camera), process it and deliver ads based on this data. The thing is that it's illegal and most people are clueless what's going on in their phones.
391  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: November 22, 2023, 06:15:50 PM
I hope from the bottom of my heart that Nadal can start all the tournaments without health issues in 2024. Nothing would be worse than him having to say goodbye on his final ATP tour because of yet another injury. I have my doubts that we will see Djokovic against Nadal in one of the final rounds of a Grand Slam again, but if it's coming, both should be in their best physical condition and play their best tennis. If I had one wish for the 2024 tennis year, Nadal - Djokovic in the French Open final! Wink  Smiley

Indeed, that is an ultimate dream of any tennis fan. I am even considering visiting Paris in that case. That is perhaps the last chance to see these two GOATs face each other in one final battle.

Although, Nadal v Djokovic final is highly unlikely as Djokovic is #1 and Nadal will most probably start as a WC and will have to face a highly competitive draw, possibly including Djokovic himself in early stages.

I apologize but I just did a little stalking and saw you are probably from Latvia or around that area? It is quite a trip, but honestly I understand if someone is enthusiastic about it and has a chance, the money and the time to see a last final at Roland Garros, seriously then go for it. This is really worth it I think because in a best case scenario the game is going to be a five hours thriller and the money paid would be worth it. I have never intended a tennis game, shame on me. But I became a fan when I once saw the GOATs play against each other and I couldn't believe how they were hammering the ball onto the lines for over four hours. It is an amazing sport, which involves every part from the head to the foot and the mind and every cell of the brain. It is extremely intense. So, I hope that little dream of yours may come true! Wink

Haha no, not really, the company I used to advertise is located in Latvia. But anyway, I know lots of tennis fans who visit RG from much further away places too. I have seen a lot of live tennis in my life as my daughter is a tennis player. She is not a top 100 player of course, but I've seen quite a number of tennis matches in my life I must admit. Still, witnessing something like a Nadal v Djokovic RG final is a very special event. Let alone if this final is possibly the last in their careers.
392  Economy / Economics / Re: You are the product. Corporations spying on us deeper than we thought? on: November 22, 2023, 06:53:08 AM
while it is true that most companies track your activities in your phone, it might be reaching to say that your phone was listening

it could’ve been just a coincidence and most likely it is
a lot of people agree on things they don’t even understand especially on the internet most people don’t even read terms & conditions before clicking accept or choosing to accept cookies in a website anyway the point is all apps have some kind of system where it can see you and what you like or what you dislike sometimes this proves useful as it allows you to curate your feed but sometimes it gives you more ways to spend (advertising)
I'm pretty sure it's not a coincidence. I have experienced something similar before, just didn't pay attention. I have used both Android and IOS it doesn't matter really. Whatever I mention in my conversation: car tyres, dog food or Bitcoin, targeted ads appear every time. And note I wasn't googling these items.

Yes, perhaps it was my fault by giving access to these apps but when you're installing Instagram for example, you kind of expect it will ask for camera permissions right?
393  Economy / Economics / Re: You are the product. Corporations spying on us deeper than we thought? on: November 21, 2023, 10:51:23 PM
You are not overreacting but this is how the algorithm goes when they've heard some specific brands, they're going to send you a blast off of those ads that are related to the brand or product/services that you've mentioned. Actually, there have been a lot of memes about this and if you a regular tech guy that understands this, you'd definitely expect to see food ads just after speaking about your favorite tacos, pizzas, etc. We use their services and platforms for free and if things are for free then you must be aware that we're their products being sold to their advertisers. This is how it goes and became a norm, if you don't want to get into these algorithms being done to your phone and to your accounts in social medias and search engines, much better not to use the internet. Because if you're aware of cookies, the internet cookies, then that's just one of the many that they're doing to all of their users and that's how they make money from advertisers and users that enjoys their platforms. What I do, I reject those cookie permissions, disabling recording if they ask to and even putting some blockage to my front camera which is common to laptops.

That's the most terrifying part: no brands or exact models or names were mentioned. My guess is that my phone scanned the area around it and located the phone of the other person, identified him and his car. The car was identified correctly as Mercedes has at least 3-4 different key types and the ad on my phone suggested the EXACT key I held in my hands. That's not a coincidence. This is some next level spying.
394  Economy / Economics / Re: Us-Based Crypto Exchange Kraken to release significant data to IRS on: November 21, 2023, 07:50:47 PM
I know this is a few days old news but I think it is very important and sensitive information particularly about crypto users and their privacy.

According to the article, the IRS has mount pressure on kraken since May 2021 demanding the exchange hand over extensive records on a large number of its American customers. Although Kraken fought back by filling a petition against them but not enough to get the IRS off it's back.

Kraken has agreed to deliver data on users who conducted more than $20,000 in crypto transactions – including trades, deposits, and withdrawals – during any year from 2016 to 2020 according to the article which makes me wonder why stop at 2020?

According the article, increased compliance from cryptocurrency firms could compel government to enact clear and friendly policies towards crypto. Do you agree to this?

Or do see this as contradicts the ethos of financial privacy and empowerment that attracts many people to cryptocurrency?

Source

Well, that was easy see this coming. After what happened to Binance and CZ, I guess no exchange is willing to confront the US government/FED/IRS. There's no way exchanges can fight or withstand that blackmailing going on. So every exchange now will be cooperating with FED or IRS to avoid possible fines, bans, trials etc. They're not trying to kill Bitcoin anymore, but rather trying to control it.
395  Economy / Economics / You are the product. Corporations spying on us deeper than we thought? on: November 21, 2023, 07:31:14 PM
Ok, everybody knows we are being spied on by the corporations like Google, Meta, Microsoft etc. That's a pretty well-known fact and is generally accepted by the public. However, I started noticing some alarming facts recently: I am being offered stuff I mention while I'm on the phone. Then, I noticed they're offering stuff I mention while chatting with my family while the phone is located somewhere in the room.

Finally, what's really scary, today I was talking to someone (while my phone was nearby) regarding a car key. I started using my phone a bit later and I was shocked to find out there's an ad containing the very same Merc key we were discussing and I was holding in my hands! Then suddenly I realized this is not the first time something like that happens. Which means that the phone is listening? (recording?) to our conversations and possibly also filming the whole thing?

Can we discuss it? Perhaps I'm overreacting or being paranoid and there's a simple explanation for this?  Roll Eyes
396  Economy / Economics / Re: USA: 50 years since the beginning of the oil embargo on: November 21, 2023, 05:18:52 PM
Just the Facts:

Bloomberg: oil prices fall for the third week in a row
World oil prices are falling for the third week in a row, despite the record demand for fuel, the reduction of supplies by Saudi Arabia and fears of rising prices due to the conflict between Israel and "Hamas". Bloomberg draws attention to this. Saudi Arabia's Energy Minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman blamed speculators for the price drop.

The price of benchmark Brent crude fell to a three-month low of $80 a barrel today, but the price has fallen about 5% in a week. The average WTA price is in the neighborhood of $76. Prices rose yesterday, November 9, following a statement from Saudi Arabia's energy minister that was similar to his criticism of speculators in May, weeks before the kingdom cut oil production.

The price of Brent crude has fallen about 13% in the past three weeks amid rising demand from China, the U.S. and Europe. Hedge fund manager Pierre Andurand points out that oil inventories were higher than expected due to production in the US and Iran.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-11-10/latest-oil-market-news-and-analysis-for-nov-10

What's the point in posting this over and over again? Fuel prices tend to fluctuate most of the time. They're going down now, in a few days they're going back up. I'm more concerned about retail prices at gas stations which are not falling but in some countries (Germany) they're doing just the opposite. In other words, common folks are feeling the pain while in fact sponsoring your country.

...
Anyway, Sinner v Djokovic again. TBH I fear for Sinner, Djokovic is treating this as another record
which has to be broken. He is level with Federer on 6 Finals wins, he will want to beat that.

it will definitely be an epic match... one of the main reason is that Sinner is the first Italian tennis player to reach this milestone and in the event of victory he would reach a historic record also in terms of prize money won (over 4 million dollars).
last but not least, he is playing in Torino Roll Eyes and italians love see other italians achieve such high results Tongue

Djokovic is always a "loose cannon", he will do everything to win I'm sure...

This time I saw more voices on this forum saying that Sinner probably has a great chance to win the game, but what can I say... Djokovic is Djokovic and he did everything to mute those voices and go in two straight sets. I also thought that this could very well go into a third set and I ask myself whether Sinner played worse than the last few days or whether Djokovic didn't take any prisoners from the first second to the last. If this was a three set game, it would look like Sinner may have been close and besides winning this tournament, I believe that Djokovic also wanted to let the pro-Sinner crowd know who the boss is. And he did.

Sinner definitely played worse today, how many unforced errors he committed? 20? 25? Anyway it was a lot. Djokovic's serve was flawless tonight. He also attacked Sinner's backhand quite aggressively. All in all the Serb deserved this win. I admire his ability to play at his age at the top level.
399  Economy / Economics / Re: The impact of war on global economy. on: November 19, 2023, 05:57:23 PM
Wars doesnt harm every country. i think some of the country gets benefited because of it.

And what are the benefits that other countries get from war, if not the chaos, fear, and trembling of some citizens, which can cause them to have some health issues? Even if a country does win a war, it doesn't make the economy better during that time. Things don't normally work well for that period until war is over, and there might even be some restrictions during that period, which can make some workers stop working, some companies stop production, and short down at that moment. If war lingers for so long, it can cause more harm to the economy of that country.

That war is a purely destructive process, no one argues. But there is a more important indicator - the conclusions and reaction.
In technical terms, it is not so much the errors in the system that are critical as the lack of reaction of the system to these errors.
I.e. it is very important - what will be the reaction of the world, in order to prevent the recurrence of similar problems in the future. Because in addition to the huge number of human casualties and destruction of entire regions in Ukraine, this war has created real global problems in the world economy. It is true that this is already a topic of economic terrorism, but the world must develop solutions against it as well.

Not really war... but sanctions! Sanctions have caused issues and continue affecting global economy in the most negative way. Only people with room temperature IQ still believe that sanctions actually cause any significant effect on Russia and will stop Putin.

They also thought the same in the USSR, puffing up their cheeks and talking from all sockets about the "decay of the West" and the collapse of imperialism tomorrow. And they explained the same way - a strong economy, a powerful ruler and the Central Committee of the CPSU. The whole world envies the USSR. 40% of resources are in the USSR. The people and the party are united !...
Shall I tell you how this show ended? I personally watched it inside the USSR.  In this case, even I will declare - the USSR economy was more self-sufficient, it produced, albeit not very high quality but a very wide range. Science, education (poor, but massively), factories and plants even worked. And what is modern Russia? A pathetic parody of the USSR. The USSR degraded much slower than the Russian Federation. So don't tell me tales about the USSR and Russia Smiley

USSR didn't collapse because of sanctions. You can look it up anywhere you like. I guess that is the reason why you're not mentioning the source?

The real reason USSR collapsed was Mikhail Gorbachev. I'm not sure if he was a CIA agent or just was paid to do what he did but he was the real reason USSR collapsed. Yes, in some parts of USSR (like the Baltic States) strong national movements existed. But not in Ukraine, Belarus etc. where the politicians let alone most common folks didn't want independence from Russia and didn't know what to do with it. Both Kravchuk and Shushkevich were shocked when they heard it for the first time as they only came to Belavezhskaya Pushcha to sign new agreements on gas deliveries to the republics, Yeltsin granting independence to their countries came out of the blue. What economic sanctions have to do with it?

Ok, let's assume you're right ! Smiley
Then 3 questions:
1. When were sanctions imposed against the USSR ? And how did they affect the economy ? And a couple of words about the general standard of living of the USSR population, economy ?
2. What steps specifically aimed at the collapse of the USSR did Gorbachev take. Provided that he initiated reforms aimed at economic acceleration, glasnost and democratization of state and socio-political life. Aimed at improving the lives of the population after a prolonged economic downturn.
3. what do you say about the fact that Gorbachev tried to preserve the USSR, and these attempts were "annulled" by the election of Boris Yeltsin on May 29, 1990, which put an end to the process of the collapse of the USSR ?

Only plz facts, because here it will not be possible to push fantasies, because I lived at that time, and observed the processes from inside the USSR Smiley

I'll just leave it here - it's an assessment of the problems of the USSR before it collapsed:

- declining rates of economic growth;
- chronic shortages of food and consumer goods;
- the growing scientific and technical lag of the USSR from Western countries;
- exhaustion of the possibilities of extensive economy;

Did Gorbachev do all this? Smiley

PS And this is for study: https://tass.ru/ekonomika/13140823
