I guess the possibility of donating anonymously may be a plus, though on the flip side this could be used for nefarious donating (easy to possibly send money to terrorists or other causes that may be controversial). I think being able to accept a universal currency will have its benefits or for those that don't have credit/debit cards or even a bank account.

I just read over stories of people who got arrested by the US government for trading Bitcoins either in person or on LBC. Most of them have been arrested by the government for selling large amounts ($10k+) and have been targeted because it is considered as an illegal money transmitting business. What I wonder and think about is how the government is harassing big Bitcoin traders after they sold off tens-thousands of SR bitcoins to the public. Isn't the government guilty for selling bitcoins for money and therefore hypocritical of them to do so?
Since when do the government care about being hypocrites. Everything they do is hypocritical and they only exist by stealing money via taxes (which is theft). They continually lie cheat steal murder and launder tax payers money and it's perfectly legal for them to do so without recourse because they make the rules. They're corrupt at every level and will always come after their paycheck and they don't care who they trample on in the process. |

It's amazing how people are shameless enough to support criminals, even if they're hiding behind the computer.

What is shameless is the government forcing people to resort to the underground blackmarket for behavior which should be none of their business and certainly not a criminal matter. The government should have no authority over what adults may or may not choose to put into their bodies. The governments actually create these markets by default by dissalowing them in the first place. Clearly people want drugs and they should be able to get them. |

The central authorities have little to no control of how much their currency is worth and when they keep printing it all it does is decrease in value. If they could control it the pound and dollar wouldn't have lost most of its purchasing power over the last few decades. What a joke. Credit Suisse is open to crypto they are essentially saying that there is no insurance backers for Bitcoin itself. There's a difference between an agency backing a currency and one being able to guarantee the value of it which is what was claimed in that article. They can't guarantee the value unless they mean 1 us dollar is worth 1 us dollar but then you can say that about bitcoin as 1btc is always worth 1btc. |

Amsterdam seems to be a bustling hub of bitcoin activity recently. I can't wait to go back there again and hopefully make some of my first purchases with bitcoin. I imagine coffee shops accepting bitcoin there soon as well. That would be nice. Maybe even the window girls in the RLD also.  Hehe. I was wondering when this will happen too. Hopefully not long before one takes the plunge if one hasn't already. |

Kudos to you for spreading the word and acceptance of bitcoin, i hope we see many more stories like this one in the future. Also, i hope they will have some more customers trying out their new method of payment If i ever get a chance ill definetly check it out, im allready preparing myself for bitcoin only journey ! cheers I was very surprised at Christmas when I was in Newcastle and found no where in the entire city accepts bitcoin. Make sure that this cafe is easily google-able for their ability to accept bitcoin, I think they will get quite a bit of trade based on that alone if it is clear online where locals can find them. Nice work by the way That's how it is in most places though sadly. It's very difficult to spend your coins anywhere in the real world but hopefully this will change over time especially when people are trying to drive merchant adoption like this which is always a good thing. |

I've just created an order with bitcoin. It didn't remove bitcoin. Ps: probably the news site tried to buy only the 2 weeks free upgrade package. (which requires credit card).  So is this false or not? The article seems to mentioned they removed a blog post about bitcoin or something. We are not all americans citizens that confusing with everything
Actually the studies about UI complexity were not limited to US citizens (on average they aren't dumber than most other people despite what many people might think). Regardless of whatever nationality the studies are done it still proves that people are morons. |

I think Barca will comfortably beat Man City. I didn't bet at weekend, seems it was best choice since some big teams can't win the match Juventus is strong in their home, but sometimes play bad in UCL games. Dortmund is not good at bundesliga, but their UCL campaign is good so it's very hard to choose  for other match i think many of us will bet barcelona  anyone bet for man. city? Juve are top of the Seria A whereas Borussia are 12th and are only three points away from relegation zone I believe so I think Juve should win easily especially at home. |

I think so too. IMO OP should sell the bricks on ebay or other site ant accept a small loss, then invest the money in Bitcoin. Be careful not to get scammed on ebay as a lot of people do. That would add further insult to injury. I agree with amph about just buying btc and holding would be a better investment. |

I was going to answer the question of Who is "Variety Jones"? with obviously a smarter guy than ross. I think you would do best not being actually in control of the site and being involved in somewhat of an advisory role or someone who just helps out. When shit hits the fan you've still got yourself covered and can disappear easily enough. Ross had too much heat and things to worry about but he obviously didn't worry about them enough and hence why he got caught. |

Someday the number will be closer to 11 Billion, but Bitcoin will survive. People need to be smarter with their money.
I agree that people need to be smarter with their cash, but sometimes you have to trust and rely on third parties like when you're sending to an exchange etc but hopefully decentralized institutions will combat these sorts of losses or thefts. |

"The State" will always find ways to take their cut and punish those who avoid giving it to them. The gov basically scares people into paying taxes and nothing will change with bitcoin. |

Define 'wasted'. It would be interesting to see how much electricity they use, but I'm guessing bitcoin uses more but they both have their uses in generating income (Bitcoin in bitcoin and Facebook in ad revenue). I hope one day there will be some sort of decentralised social network though where the ad money gets shared out between their users. |

I'm inclined to think that bitcoin is a ponzi scheme for a number of reasons:
1. Quality of a currency - It fails this for me in terms of lacking the tangibility of gold. Now people will say that gold or fiat is not 'tangible', but the guns that enforce currencies are, and the fact that millions of ignorant people want to adorn themselves with gold, makes it a value for at least the next 100 years.
Maybe millions of ignorant people will one day want to adorn themselves with gold bitcoins instead? Regardless of everything else you said, no, bitcoin isn't a ponzi. The value lies in it's usefulness as a currency and payment system and people can see the potential power and future value of that. |

Assume I got 100000 BTC.
I start doing martingale from 1 BTC.
I will lose out, because I will reach a point in which the bet I should be playing will be greater than the max bet allowed in the particular site.
Plus, there is an additional problem of house edge.
So, your expected return is negative, at least in theory.
Personally, I never use martingale, and I am not interested in dice sites too.
But what if you had 10000 btc and started off betting 0.000001? I can't imagine you'll hit a loss streak big enough to hit that loss streak as long as you don't play for infinity and quit whilst you have a decent profit. |
