They don't cause centralization.
Really? So you think that one person/group controlling 1000s of mining machines where they can achieve more than half the hash rate isn't centralization?

nope.
I see.. Well either you're not all that bright since that's exactly why Satoshi designed what he did, or you have an ulterior motive for spreading that fallacy. Either way, not like it really matters since it's all going to end up being centralized so good luck to you.

This is why I keep watching threads like this. It's just so damn entertaining to watch keyboard warriors "lose their shit".

After probably a year and a half now, I'm still waiting for the technical whitepaper so the project can be judged on that as opposed to marketing fluff. Any delivery date?
385  Other / Meta / Re: Staff Dabs abusing merit? on: October 06, 2019, 06:17:48 AM
I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

That's how any merit abuse should be judged. But then again when the very people that are admins and/or in DT and/or are merit sources can be shown to hand out merit for "likes", especially when it comes to forum "fights", it sort of makes it all a moot point. No one cares what Theymos wanted it to be and shows a complete lack of respect for his goals with it.
386  Economy / Reputation / Re: crypto-bridge.org KYC scam ! on: October 06, 2019, 02:43:05 AM
The two times I've used crypto-bridge, both withdrawals were held and was solved only after starting a support ticket and waiting over 48 hours.
I did one on the 30th. Had lots of issues getting it to work but finally figured out a way for it to go through. It disappeared completely and after waiting probably an hour, nothing had shown up anywhere either. The bitshares block explorerer showed everything I had done up to but not the withdraw. Sent in a support ticket and it was resolved within an hour, 2 at the absolute most. I don't really get this last minute KYC thing unless there's something else going on in the background, but given how quickly they fixed my issue and that I actually got my coins, I really can't see them purposely scamming people.
387  Economy / Reputation / Re: crypto-bridge.org KYC scam ! on: October 06, 2019, 02:22:03 AM
If you believe an exchange can operate for long and with any meaningful volume without compliance you're naive and you shouldn't play this game.
Binance, KuCoin,Bitfinex,BitForex,BiBox,Hotbit etc,,,

These exchanges and many others , either have daily limits for withdrawal without KYC
Today. Every exchange started out not requiring KYC and then implemented it later. Others also had limits where you could withdraw up to a certain amount and if you wanted to do more, you needed KYC. From what I see, more and more governments are requiring it and they will not be able to avoid it. So, it's just a matter of time before all those ones either implement KYC or magically get hacked or something else happens and they end up shutting down.
388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ravencoin [RVN] PoW GPU Mining | Asset Transfer Blockchain (Updated ANN) on: October 06, 2019, 01:07:37 AM
I don't see any difference in payout the amount still the same, unlike last year that you can get more rewards compared today. I believe there are many FPGA and ASIC mining RVN with new Algo. Since it is just a program anything from a program can make a new way to mine those coins.
The price of crypto rarely has anything at all to do with things like hashrate etc.

It's clear though that you need to go educate yourself on what an ASIC is. It's already known that ASICs "could" still mine a very limited number of blocks if they wanted to. I think the percentage was something like 3.5%. The only way they could still be mining all of them, is if when designing the chip(s), they made some educated guesses as to what the devs might change in the algorithm and they built configurable options into them. I know I certainly would have. However, Tiger is a much more difficult and expensive algorithm to implement and so it's more likely they wouldn't have added that one in. On top of that, having it in front of three existing ones is also not something someone would easily come up with as a potential option. So the likelihood there are ASICs out there that can still mine all block is pretty damn low.

FPGAs are a different story as they can be reprogrammed. But, depending on how they designed the hardware and what the overall tech specs are of it, they may actually need to redesign them to be able to handle Tiger. Regardless, they'll be back sooner rather than later.

My understanding of the new EU data protection laws are that they contain a "right to be forgotten" clause, where a company must delete everything they hold on you at your request or face a hefty fine. I'm guessing, however, that there is also a clause that says they have to keep a minimum amount of data for x number of years when financial transactions are involved, though. Perhaps someone who lives in Europe could shed some more light.
Yes, under GDPR, they can keep information for a certain number of years. And this is not just an EU thing. If you do anything with websites who's business is global, then most of them have implemented GDPR as well. Think Facebook, Google etc etc etc. So requesting they delete your data isn't good enough. You have a right to know all the data they have on you and they have to provide it to you. So you would need to clarify with them what they may or may not delete, how long they will hold the rest and I would even go so far as to ask for what purpose and what legal grounds they are holding that information. GDPR is clear as mud and many companies have implemented things but they have no idea if it's absolutely correct or not. Like a lot of laws, they're hoping there will eventually be some legal cases that clarify things as there are some aspects of GDPR that just don't make any sense and it's clear that the people that wrote it just don't even comprehend how the internet works.
390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee To Launch New Decentralized Exchange – McAfeeDex on: October 05, 2019, 03:03:05 AM
A true decentralized exchange cannot be shutdown by authorities. I mentioned one, maybe there are more, i don't know.
Tor sessions/traffic etc is detectable and thus authorities could have ISPs ban it if they really want to and/or filter for the DEX traffic specifically and ban that. I've never understood why people can't see that sort of thing. Without being able to use the internet, crypto is dead. It's just a matter if governments etc want to stomp it out or co-opt it. I think it should be clear that they're going to co-opt it. It's getting harder and harder to buy/sell crypto without the "control" of the governments via KYC for example. At some point governments will probably come out with their own crypto with all the regulation and guarantees people want for their money and the masses will flood to it. And of course the governments would want that so they can see every single thing you buy/sell. And yes, I do understand that there will still be people on the fringe trying to keep these sorts of things going.

icemining
@icemining

I never thought I'd say this. Tomorrow's RVN hard fork is a manipulation between FPGA Farms, an ASIC Dev with pedigree, and one pool operator. FPGA and ASICS were already developed, and this was the plan all along. #RavenCoin #ScamAlert
Given that icemining didn't even understand the change that was made in the coin, I would think it's far more likely that icemining had ASICs and they're spreading conspiracy theories cause they got screwed.
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: October 03, 2019, 04:56:23 AM
Lies Litecoin is not the most secure coin. I can name one that is far more secure but I'm sure that name is forbidden on this thread  Wink
This thread is not self moderated as, unlike so many, I would think they welcome frank serious discussion. I for one would like to know what you're referring and what you base that claim on so that I and others can look into actual facts and decide for ourselves.
394  Other / Serious discussion / Re: It's hard to know who to believe. on: October 02, 2019, 01:11:17 PM
no, the other way round.

when you mix "percentage change" (0.01%) and "percentage change in the percentage change" (33%) together, THAT's confusing.
It's really not all that confusing. For some reason you've taken 0.03% and 0.04% and put those out there with no clear context as far as I could see i.e. 03% of what? That's a percentage of volume and so the misleading statement is to say it's increase by 0.01% and is designed to make the layman see it as a tiny number. 33% is the correct scientific way of stating that increase.

link?
I already said you can find it for yourself if you care enough to get the knowledge. I was looking for something else related to the oil industry and stumbled across it. I downloaded the documents and would have to go searching again to find the site. You can do that yourself. I will note you didn't include links to your data sooooooo...

  • if you look at temperature from 1960-2020, it increases. We're all gonna die!!!!1
  • but if you look at temperature from 1920-1960, it decreases, from a higher peak than 2020
You cherry picked information and one can only assume you did it to mislead, or you read information that was designed to mislead you. You failed to point out that the temperature increased prior to that period and then after it as well. Although I would have to say the time frame I found did not match yours but that's beside the point.

I want to know the real truth and have looked at what both sides of this argument have said. While those that promote climate change tend to exaggerate parts of it, I have yet to see anything from the other side that has convinced me they're the ones that are right. More often than not I find statistics being blatantly twisted to fit the narrative. Couple years back the climate change deniers were all hyped up about some report that "proved" the math was wrong. I read the report and just had to shake my head as it was clearly written in order to give that group talking points in order to convince people that would never understand it, but it sure sounded reasonable. But from a scientific standpoint it completely failed to prove that the underlying methods the scientific community uses were flawed.

I can see how this will go though. So I'll just end this with you and say good luck to you.

I'm afraid without Mimblewimble and some other stuff to differentiate LiteCoin from other Alts....well...we are doomed without a combination of the two

I just mentioned. Past the point where LiteCoin needs to have some development tricks outside out of the 95% or more simply following Bitcoin Cores

development team leads. Without striking out on its own, IMHO, LiteCoin will be made redundant I'm afraid. LTC needs to stake some stuff out as its own

...like Mimblewimble to start.....in the past, it has been too much Robin and not enough Batman! Smiley

Brad

Charlie Lee did not sell all of his Litecoin.
And the possible introduction of Mimblewimble into the blockchain. Also, do not forget that this is the second cryptocurrency, it is called digital silver. Litecoin will be the future.

I'm afraid the scam fork coins are bitcoin cash and bitcoin SV are the bitcoin silver now.
Bitcoin Cash had a successful 51% double spend attack occur on it a few months ago. It's too centralized in it's mining. Bitcoin SV is even worse. So only the naive that don't understand these sorts of things would think they are good coins and bitcoin silver. I don't see how those coins have any future when there network is so weak, that they can be attacked like that. But I guess most people are too stupid to understand those sorts of things which is why they're still sticking around. Well. I would think SV getting kicked off some exchanges sort of signals that it's probably going to be dieing off.

yet in both the above cases bch and bsv their price is much more than Litecoin. I agree with what you say, but I'm saying as 'forks' that people do not peel off of their BTC chain

that gives them an edge over litecoin. There are no other edges I can see in why these two bitcoin clones are worth more than Litecoin. So Litecoin seems less silver to bitcoin's

gold now and more copper to bitcoin's gold now. I don't like it. But if you are using USD as a metric of success for crypto, it seems, unfortunately at this time to be the case.
Price is immaterial when you've failed at one of the core tenants of crypto. The value of that coin "should" be zero at this point.

I do understand what you're saying, but you're looking at things "today". As we've seen with SV, it just took a major hit and a year from now could be practically dead. Same thing can happen to bitcoin cash or it can just continue on just as litecoin has. Keep in mind that the bitcoin cash price was basically spun off from the bitcoin price at the time. It did not earn it on it's own merit. Litecoin cash however, has. Regardless, this stuff is far to young to be making any declarations as to what the real outcome will be.

atmospheric CO2 has increased from 0.03% to 0.04% over the last 200 years. The increase is 0.01%
The "difference" is 0.01 as you've said. But that's is not how much it's increased. It's increased by 33%. Well.. I guess what I should say is that the percentage increase is 33% which would be more accurate.

Here. I'll do the math for you.. 0.04 - 0.03 / 0.03 = 0.33 or, 33%. Saying it's 0.01% "increase" as opposed to difference, is usually what people do when they want to mislead someone into thinking it's not as big as it is.

As per the OP and "who to believe", a couple documents were leaked awhile back from internal reports for Exxon and Shell. Both of them outlined the same sort of stuff that the climate change people have been saying. That was in the 80s and the reports said that we wouldn't be able to really tell until the turn of the century or within 5-30 years as the oceans might delay temperature increases etc. Those companies have known what was coming for a long time so it's "entertaining" to see them fund some of the anti climate change groups etc while at the same time, very slowly and quietly moving into more green industries and also related ones that are impacted by increases in CO2 etc. The info is out there for anyone to dig up on their own as I did.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: October 01, 2019, 08:08:25 AM
I've been holding bags of dust and empty promises since the dump in 2017-2018. It was my first time getting into this Crypto atmosphere. The one lesson I have taken from it is that this coin is truly a copy and worthless. Charlie lee knew exactly when to get out. He had more access to personal trades through ledgers that the average person doesn’t have access to. Actually i am waiting for the detail of MimbleWimble then how other things go on. After that, it will need consensus and this process can take months before the code actually develops. I still stand on "More patient, More gain" and will hold for another year at least.
The "dump" is normal in crypto. This is not the stock market or forex. It's more akin to penny sock which is easily manipulated, huge highs and lows, filled with scams and pump and dumps. If you don't understand that or can't handle that, then this is probably not for you.

Litecoin is one of the oldest coins and despite all the people claiming it dead or dieing over the years, it's still here and doing far better than 100s of others that have come and gone. When bitcoin fees were super high prior to the segwit stuff, people used coins like litecoin and doge to transfer their funds around instead of bitcoin. Eventually bitcoin fees will be high again and people will once again turn to coins like this. Litecoin is bitcoin silver and has never pretended to be anything other than that. It wasn't all that long ago it was like $2-$4. You just happened to have gotten in at the wrong time as you bought on the hype.
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]★CryptoBridge★BCO★🔹Gateway to BitShares 📈RELEASED NOW BETA🔹 on: October 01, 2019, 07:56:51 AM
really great readings guys  Smiley but when does your exchange change fees to normal level? I did several withdrawals for some coins and realised that your system takes a fee at almost 50% from the balance. What a really sophisticated trick to users to take half of balance as a fee. Explanation?

https://i.ibb.co/vq3ZtYg/VIVO-cryptobridge-scam.jpg

the same with TZC, RVN, DGB and others .... several tens % for fees. Congratulations, The most expensive exchange in the world!

On July 16 VIVO price was 0.004526 USD, your fee was $0,1720.

On July 19 TZC price was 0.003504 USD, your fee was $0,1332.

If you can't afford these fees maybe this game isn't for you.

BTW, have you compared these fees with other exchanges'?
Novaexchange, ....... or another fair exchanges.
They're shutting down and apparently holding funds "ransom" for KYC. Which of course a lot of people won't want to do especially now and so they then get to walk away with the money.

I have a list of 8 exchanges I had used or was going to that were "fair" etc and that closed up and ran with peoples money. Don't trust any of them ever. Limit your exposure at all times and expect to lose money at some point.

For the record, this exchange is a DEX and operates in a different way then the other exchanges because of that. You should know what you're using before you use it and then complain about it because you didn't take the time to learn what it is.
400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ravencoin [RVN] PoW GPU Mining | Asset Transfer Blockchain (Updated ANN) on: October 01, 2019, 07:51:39 AM
Tell your exchange to upgrade today or move your coins off immediately.

The fork upgrade is tomorow.  Any exchange not upgraded will not be on the main chain & this could create problems and loss.

Be cautious.

I keep my coins in Exodus wallet, what should i do now ?
You coins are "in" the blockchain. Your wallet contains the keys to "access" your coins in the blockchain. Nothing is changing with regards to keys. I don't know how Exodus works though but I would think they'd need to update the software so that you get the right blockchain after the fork. You'd probably have to ask them if they've updated yet or not as the official code has been out for awhile now. Either way, your coins are still in the chain. Maybe you won't be able to access them until they've updated, but they're still safe in there. I always have a backup of my keys so that I can switch to any wallet I might want to down the road.

Edit: Found this https://raven.wiki/wiki/Wallets It indicates Exodus is up to date but you might want to confirm that anyway and/or update your version if you haven't.
