42  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: September 28, 2014, 04:15:03 PM
question - in this block chain I've observed that block are not being generated at the advertised rate.

There is no such thing as an "advertised rate".

Block: 42105,Target: 69.91 GH/s, Hashrate: 9.81, 9.30, 9.27 GH/s, Performance: 20.41%
Diff: 1953.27040885, next: ~488 (confidence 47%) - Last Retarget: 56.33 hrs ago, change in 375 blocks (~61.25 hrs)

Expect to see blocks on average every 10 minutes for now, until either difficulty changes in 2-3 days, or hashrate increases back up to the target.

is there some mathematical formula that can be used to calculate the expected number of blocks that will be released in to the black chain based on current difficulty and hashrate as of last adjustment and if so - does the original specs for block times weigh into this calculation. I am working on software that needs to calculate the number of blocks that will be introduced into the blocks chain over the the forthcoming 24 hours period.
43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Difficulty Question on: September 28, 2014, 12:45:41 PM
I wondered if someone could answer a basic question for me..regarding difficulty

I have observed some coins that introduce blocks into the block chain and advertised intervals regarding of difficulty - case in point 42 coin - a new block is generated every 42 seconds.

on the other hand I see a coin like Goldcoin which advertises 120 second block times but at the current time it's only generating blocks at about 5 to 6 minute intervals - is this because of the current difficulty? and if so - how can a person calculate the number of blocks that will be introduced into the block chain based on 'current' difficulty if difficulty does indeed affect the rate at which blocks are introduced int he block chain.

is there a standard mathematical formula that can be used?

thanks in advance.

is there a problem with the block chain?

block are only being generated about once every 5 minutes...

I've just tried to download the windows wallet and it got blocked. I'm using Chrome and as soon as the download completes I get this message 'CivilizationCoin 1.0.0 ....zip is malicious, and Chrome has blocked it.' I know you sometimes get false positives from anti-virus software but I've never had Chrome directly block any downloads like that before. Is this a known issue?

It happens all the time mate , just trying download exe files inside zips it will , you can also do a scan on virustotal if you are worried too. Smiley

Ok thanks! It's just that I've never had that before. I did do a Virustotal scan and it came out clean Smiley Don't worry I trust you, but I got paranoid that I might have somehow been redirected to an infected file  Cheesy

Anyways looks like mining is ending in less than 3 hours, glad I was able to get some coins. Will be interesting once we get on an exchange  Cool

Ah no worries mate , it's alright to be paranoid at time hehe , specially at these things. Smiley

Yup mining ends in a few hours and it's POS then. Smiley

~SoopY~

not really - we are up to block 7085 Smiley

Yup mate you are right , I'm watching this and just running a check on the code. Let's see.

~SoopY~

people told me that no coins are being given out even though blocks were being created - I shut down the stratums to my pool since no coins were being awarded from those blocks - did not want people wasting hash

48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: Official Lifeforce.info Pools Thread on: September 28, 2014, 10:17:26 AM
Hi. I sent you a PM regarding this but I don't know if you accept PMs. I just found out about this thread and thought I'd post it here too just in case. I'm mining CIV on your pool atm and I can't withdraw my coins because the minimum cashout is set to 500. Mining is ending in a couple of hours or so anyways. I've got about 400 coins right now and I'm not sure if I can make it to 500. Thanks!

I'll get that updated for you now.

thanks
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Price Stabilization Funds on: September 27, 2014, 11:30:44 AM
This is not a free market idea. Short term it may work, long term it'll be a failure.

you are correct - I guess we have to define what is a 'failure' - I see the fund as being used to prop up prices when people start to dump.... that's all.

which aint a bad idea because when the price is shored up those purchased coins can be resold at higher values in the future replentishing the fund.

That's exactly what all stabilization funds try to do, and they fail long term, because artificial propping up only creates larger disbalances long term and when that hits, it hits big.

so - what's the difference between a whale buying up at low prices and a stabilization fund buying up at low prices?

However , the person handling the fund must be a VERY skilled trader , also it has to be a person whom everybody completely trusts 100%

+1

There have been too many devs who dumped their coin's premine and drove the price down to one sat before disappearing. Most of these devs claimed the premine was for "funding development". The mere fact any coin has a premine could put people off buying it.

good point - how to you define the difference between premine and ICO ?
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][W2C] W2Coin (0% Premine) [KGW] on: September 27, 2014, 10:50:10 AM
Did this one ever make it to a major exchange? Seem's like the only people interested in it now are Newbie accounts.

not a single buy order - not a good sign
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Price Stabilization Funds on: September 27, 2014, 10:23:02 AM
Thanks these are all great observations.

My thoughts are to create a trading bot but to use a % of the proceeds raised in the ICO to generate BTC that will create the stabilization FUND and not use a percentage of the premined coins as the reserve for the fund because I'd prefer to place orders with BTC and not have to sell coins (that could create downward pressure on the coin price) to generate BTC to buy coins.

thanks again
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [NAUT] Nautiluscoin - First Coin w/Stabilization Fund - Digishield on: September 26, 2014, 09:38:04 PM
figured I'd stop and and say hello to everyone where nothing has again changed...

no activity, no pos, no change in price - kind of like have money in one of those old S&L's that paid zero % interest.

fork the coin along with pos and breath some new life back into the coin - Relaunch? Relaunch what -  like trying to relaunch a Saturn rocket that put John Glenn into space...there's nothing new.

this thread is like a retirement community where everyone sits around and talks about the good old days...

what's pos going to do? - nothing in and of itself...

want to generate interested?

fork the coin the KGW, drop the difficulty and bring some new people into the fold - it's not going to hurt the price of the coin...

whats up with www.minep.it

they don't seem to be paying out or any movement on Bitmark confirmations, scam site?

It looks like they are stuck 2000 blocks behind, we've been trying to contact them. Once we know more we'll update, meanwhile please reserve judgement.

they are a long well established pool - no need to worry.
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CGA]Cryptographic Anomaly V2.0 Swap Coin Before 10/1!!! on: September 26, 2014, 07:05:54 PM
the basic problem with this coin is that is generates so little on a daily basis in terms of value... perhaps $30 USD

now you take a look at Viacoin which generates about $2,304 per days in terms of value.

now I take a look at my personal hashing power and it would be rediculous for me to mine this coin and make about $15/day when I could mine Viacoin and make about $50/day

face it guys - the people with GPU's are mining X11 coins that pay much higher.

You should have made the block reward about 10 to 20 coins and attracted the asic miners because the GPU guys are not going to mine his coin any longer.

who care if you're not going to run out of coins for 1,000 years or something - none of us will be around anyway.

just my humble .02

We are hurting in regards to price, yes.
Mined coins runs out in "x" amount of years, yes.
This coin is ultra-rare (~106k CGA mined over last 7 months), and once the swap is over, things will turn around, especially when 1billionhex comes out. 1billionhex is the main reason cga held its price of .001 back in June. Then the dev "moved". At least CGA is still listed on polo through all of this. CGA would have been done months ago if not for honeybadger and more recently the Diem devs.

We have to finish the swap first before we can think about moving forward. Now is the time for brainstorming, if anything.

Raising the reward doesn't do anything for us except securing the low prices we have now and possibly lowering the price further. Miners dump. it's a fact, they want profit now and not long-term thinking. Raising the price will help us, and to do that, we need 1billionhex updates, or other services.

I just think you guys went about the whole 'rare' thing the wrong way. 42 got it right the way they did it...

no one cares about if the coin will be around 100 years from now - everyone is short sighted and want something they things has value - even if they choose not to sell it. I think you'd be surprised at the increase in activity if you raised the reward to 10 or 20.

"no one cares about if the coin will be around 100 years from now" -- It provides sustainability for mining versus just mining for TX fees.

if you did a pool I believe that over 90% of the people on here could care less about sustainability
