401  Other / Meta / Re: Cloudflare blocks creating new topic (Tor) on: September 18, 2023, 07:20:55 AM
Why use TOR at the first place anyway? Can't you use normally? I never used TOR. So I never faced anything like that. Sometimes I would get random time outs or verification failed but not that you got.
Using TOR to access the forum is normal, not abnormal. Satoshi Nakamoto always use TOR in Bitcointalk so is Satoshi Nakamoto an abnormal user?

I'll probably release Satoshi's PMs and logged IPs addresses in ~8 years. This'd probably be of great historical interest. (Though he always used Tor, as far as I can tell.)

OP can use Ctrl+Shift+L or click on hamburger icon and choose New Tor circuit for this site. It can help to resolve the connection issue when using Tor.
402  Other / Meta / Re: Is the first Merit the hardest Merit to get? on: September 15, 2023, 11:43:54 PM
The first merit is hardest for some but if talking about a longer journey, it's not hardest. It can take you one or two months to get your first merit but the hardest challenge for you to rank up with merit system is the first 100 merit.

You will see earning first 100 merit that is requirement for Full member rank is the hardest. After Full member rank, first 100 merit, you will feel ranking up is more easy. And earning from 101 merit to 250 merit will be easier. You even can earn 150 merits more quickly than first 100 merit.

Because after first 100 merit and time for it like 3 months or 6 months, you have enough knowledge about forum, merit system, Bitcoin and surely you are more helpful in forum. Earning merit becomes easier because you already are more knowledgeable and more helpful.

404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: HALVING IS GOING TO CAUSE A GENERAL EFFECT ON ALL IN THE ECOSYSTEM. on: September 15, 2023, 03:35:40 PM
If you want to know the effects of halving on miners, all you have to do is to look at the past 14 years and the past 3 halvings. In other words people who claim it will have a "backlash" because miners make less money have not checked the history where hashrate keeps on growing after the halving even though the income is 50% less in terms of bitcoin.
Hashrate increases a lot, difficulty increases consequently and their increases are sustainable. Bitcoin price grows too to support miner revenues from mining. If miners don't have profit from mining after past halvings, they will shut down their ASICs and hashrate will drop.

It is not what actually happened after past halvings with miners. They continued mining because they still got good profit from mining.

Quote
As for the price, again the history suggests that there will be a hype during the months leading to halving which could cause a rise which will disappear after the halving and price can come down a little. But in long run the decreased rate of supply creation will reduce the sell pressure and price will go up.
Halvings are chances for whales to manipulate market so they will create lot of fud and hype to force the market to dive or boost it to rise. Generally I see from past halvings, if you can hold, you will get profit.

Newbies shouldn't trade with leverages and lost bitcoins by liquidations. I learned it and want newbies to understand it if they think they can get rich from trading.
405  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: September 14, 2023, 03:02:21 PM
I don't think Newcastle will be a big threat to some of Europe's top teams in the Champions League group stages considering we never know whether Newcastle has a good mentality. It is true that Newcastle's good performance last season in the Premier League was an important factor in getting them to the group stage, but their performance at the start of this season was not very good.
Newcastle United can be considered as an underdog in Champions League but they are different than Napoli, an underdog in the last season. Napoli actually competed for Scudetto many seasons and they even played in Champions League very often. They are different than Newcastle Unites, just have a chance to play in Champions League after many years.

Quote
Meanwhile, Newcastle have yet to prove anything whether they deserve to be considered the new favorites in the Champions League, but of course all the teams that will play against them will be wary of Newcastle. PSG, Dortmund and Milan are probably still the best compared to Newcastle, so I wouldn't be surprised if Newcastle failed either.
They are not familiar with Champions League and it is a big challenge for them. It is barely seen a newbie in Champions League can succeed in their first season. Will Newcastle United be different? I guess they won't be like that but they can use this season as a good chance to improve their quality and competitiveness.
406  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If they have the ability why would they sell? on: September 14, 2023, 02:54:55 PM
There are too few real successful traders who regularly trade with profit.
They are professional traders and trading is their job. They only trade if they see good chance to have profit and see very slim risk if they open a position. They are experienced enough to ignore trading if they see risk is big.

In contrast, the owners of signal groups have a constant income, which does not depend on the state of the cryptocurrency market. In such groups, everything depends on how skillfully he will justify his unsuccessful deals so that the number of subscribers does not decrease.
Owners of group signals know newbies want to get rich quick with small capital. They give signals of their pumps and dumps that come from money of their group members.

They are skillful with their mouths and key boards for typing to deliver very convincing messages to signal receivers. It is roght that they get constant income from group membership fee and profit from their signal games.
407  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in your country. on: September 13, 2023, 01:39:58 PM
Whether or not people can spend bitcoin in any country depends on the level of adoption specially in countries where they are just "bitcoin friendly", you may not see that many places where they accept bitcoin payments. Things are only a little different where bitcoin is legal tender, many still don't have any clue how to accept it and the few who do are going through a lot of centralization.
Legal tender is useless like in El Salvador and I read some articles that El Salvadorians have to accept bitcoin because it is legal tender there but they are not happy. They don't want to be Bitcoin holders, investors and accepting Bitcoin for their small businesses is risky because of Bitcoin volatility.

In nations where Bitcoin is not legal tender but locals are ready to use it, national-wide accept it for their businesses without much fear. It's different like you said between legal tender and non legal tender nations.

Bitcoin with its decentralized network, non custodial wallets can be used and transacted without need to be legal tender.
408  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank vs Crypto: Are they opposites? on: September 12, 2023, 01:49:35 PM
It was a concern that many have thought that crypto will certainly be able to defeat the banks. But we're getting the picture blurry these days as these banks are also adopting to changes.

They're just doing the innovation through digital payments and currencies that they govern.
Bitcoin and cryptocurrency won't defeat or kill central banks, commercial banks and fiat currencies or CBDCs. Bitcoin can outperform fiat currencies, CBDCs in purchasing power over time but by beating, killing I meant Bitcoin will get rid of fiat currencies and CBDCs. It simply won't happen in future and it is kind of over fear.

If a Bitcoin maximalist, investor hope it will happen, it is unrealistic hope. If globally, there are governments, it will not happen.
409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ouch, today someone made a transaction with over $500k fee. on: September 12, 2023, 01:40:24 PM
If that were true, it would be an incredibly costly way to spread FUD, with an almost negligible impact in the end!! I can come up with at least a dozen more effective ways to spread FUD if someone were truly willing to invest that much money.
My belief goes to their belief in mining pools that won't enjoy those bitcoin. If a mining pool is greedy and take it, that mining pool will be criticized by community and I did not check but some mistakenly transactions like this one, only went to big mining pools. I remembered a case for Etheremine pool for ETH years ago too.

They bet that a mining pool can get more income if it is used by miners a long time. My thinking could be wrong, I admit that.

I checked and Ethermine pool was ready to refund it to sender but sender did not contact them to claim it.
Mining Pools Distribute $2.4M Transaction Fee After Flood of Phoney Refund Claims
410  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ouch, today someone made a transaction with over $500k fee. on: September 12, 2023, 08:26:55 AM
Saw this in the news yesterday, and like it was stated there, the pool that took the fees have already set it aside giving the owner of the transaction 3 days to come forward and claim back the fees.

And it was also learnt that the wallet that sent this transaction likely belonged to an exchange, and the high fees was as a result of faulty or software that malfunctioned
Giving 3 days to claim it are too short but F2Pool opens to cooperate with the sender. The value is not small so the sender must hurry up to contact F2Pool for claiming that bitcoin back.

The in and out transactions look big enough in number of transactions pointed out by Jameson Lopp but I don't really think it can be a software bug. It can be something intentionally did to create fud like Bitcoin is not perfect, you can lose money with it by using a Bitcoin software to send transactions. The market is still in rumor season so I am keen on this assumption.
411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We Are To Turn Bitcoin into a Global payment Network - Former PayPal President on: September 11, 2023, 11:28:47 PM
Who exactly are they trying to fool?, Bitcoin in my own understanding is already a payment system for the entire globe, the former president of PayPal now saying that they are the ones trying to turn Bitcoin into a global payment Network is highly ridiculous and laughable.
Bitcoin is a peer to peer transaction network but what Bitcoin transactions are used for, as payments or whatever purposes, we can not know because it depends on two people are in a deal. In some countries, using bitcoin as a payment method is prohibited, illegally. I guess it is the meaning from the Paypal's former President.

It is similar to buying bitcoin and holding it, you have no problem with government. If you sell your bitcoin to cash, it's prohibited by law.
412  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it possible to bridge BTC onchain to ETH ? on: September 11, 2023, 02:49:58 PM
So since RenBTC is not a real bridge and WBTC is centralized due to BitGo, the only safe way to do this would be to immediately sell the wBTC for ETH and hold that on the ETH chain? Or some other stablecoin?
If you believe in ETH, hold it is best option because stable coin is risky even it is Tether USD (USDT).

With stats from this ultrasound.money/, I feel very positive about Ethereum in a next bull run and it will have better profit than Bitcoin. First ETH is promising for profit. Second stable coin is risky by depeg. Why you don't simply hold ETH?
413  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If they have the ability why would they sell? on: September 11, 2023, 01:30:20 PM
Why are there traders who create trading signal groups and slowly sell signals to their members or charge fees for those who want to join their premium group?
Getting member joining fee is not their main target if they are scammers. They want to earn more from pump and dump games. Group members can get profit or become victims if they are too late with signal receiving by difference in time zone or whatever reasons. If they join pump and dump games too later, they certainly get big loss.

Quote
because as a trader he knows that it is easier to make money by selling his signals than using signals that are sold for his own trading
Trading is risky and they know it but they also know more than newbies know. Pump and dump games are very attractive with newbies who don't have knowledge about trading but have greediness. They chase profit with their empty brains so such groups are their favorite places to join. Group owners only give some polishing successful trades to attract those newbies.

They spread signals so they buy first before releasing those signals. Therefore they take very slim risk while have big chance to earn big profit with their games.
414  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If they have the ability why would they sell? on: September 11, 2023, 01:18:09 PM
Are crypto signal groups for real?
They are real because they actually release signals for their group members. Good or bad signals, it is another matter.

Quote
1. There is no proof of certificate that shows that the group owners are professional traders.
If you don't have proof to know they are professional traders and get rich by trading, don't join their signal groups and don't use your money to trade with their signals.

I also have to warn you that even they are professional traders, succeed or fail at the end depends on you. They can give you good signals but you are disciplined enough, patient enough to complete a trade with profit, it's a different thing and surely mainly depends on you.

Quote
2. They might have other motives for creating such groups too.
If they are bad traders, they create such groups to make pump and dump games. Victims are you and other members.
415  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Owner of 8K bitcoin lost in landfill threatens to bankrupt local council on: September 10, 2023, 02:57:18 PM
I think him lashing out at the city council and threatening to sue them doesn't make bitcoin look good. wherever his hard drive is, if it's in that trash dump i don't see how even a data recovery expert could get anything off of it. it's probably been crushed, cracked, corroded, etc. lost cause. his big mistake was throwing it away in the first place but that was his fault no one elses. he lost those bitcoin a long time ago. and they're not coming back.  Shocked
The story about this guy has been circulating many years and he has yet given up his hope to rescue that disk and get his bitcoin back. It's hopeless because I am not him and I am realistic.

Years under a polluted landfill which is hazardous enough to destroy many things including hard drive. First, be realistic, it's nearly impossible to find that disk. Second, it is impossible to have a usable disk which can be restored data inside after being covered in a landfill many years.

He made many attempts and was rejected many times. Now he is mad and want to do some emotional attack but it does not make sense and won't succeed.

Landfill leachate is very toxic.

Secondly, ICOs are counterposed by the op to Bitcoin and Ethereum, but Ethereum was launched through an ICO!
As for the first ICO, Wikipedia says it was Mastercoin.
Ethereum is a first project used DAO (The Decentralized Autonomous Organization) and created a lot of noise as well as excitement and expectation among investors. Unfortunately, Ethereum the DAO was hacked.

417  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's your actual dca strategy? on: September 09, 2023, 10:51:12 AM
Assuming you plan to invest for 12 months by dollar cost averaging, and you keep buying 200$ worth of bitcoin every week or month, do you know that there will be times where the market will go up rather than down? DCAing at such times are increasing your risks.
If after you did a DCA round, price goes up, it is good because you can sell it for profit.

Quote
There is a saying that, stay away from the green candles, do not chase them.
I know you want to find better or best entries for your DCA but by being obsessive with finding good entries, you are becoming a speculator, trader, not an investor with DCA strategy.

When you try to do this, you will find bottoms by that you will miss bottoms.

Quote
Monthly investment is the best frequency to some people, they advice to never delay any investment, are you one of those people? Regarding of the price action of that month?
You can DCA monthly or quarterly if you don't have big capital to do weekly DCA. Because if you use too small capitap for DCA, you will pay higher rate for withdrawal fee compares to total capital you buy at that time.

Buying on an exchange and leave your bitcoin there, wait for two or three months for one withdrawal is terrible practice.

Reminder: Do not keep your money in online account.
418  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: September 09, 2023, 09:32:02 AM
Roma's next game is against Empoli home and I will be expecting a clear win by them. They started with 0 win in 3 games so far and this is really worrying. Mourinho is expected to improve the success of this team but now they are far away from that point. It is of course the beginning of the season but the earlier they improve the better.
Roma must take advantage of this international break to improve their players through training. Mourinho must boost their player mentality to be prepared for a match with Empoli next 9 days. The opponent is not too strong and Roma can win their first match in Serie A. They must win it to get their confidence back and to prove to themselves as well as their fans or critics that bad results in first three matches are accidents and they are not weak like that.

Yes I agree with you. Currently, Juventus is not a title contender because of their squad composition and lack of clarity last season. But I am very confident that Juventus will be able to secure 1 of the 4 slots to compete in the UCL next season. Last season was a pretty bad season for Juventus. It's a shame because I've been a Juventus fan for a long time. And of course Juventus' journey is like a roller coaster every season.
I believe Juventus are actually one of best contenders for Scudetto in this season. They are a most successful club in Serie A and in the last season, they played well even many players injured throughout the season and they even got a big point deduction. In the past season, they had to play in Champions League and Europa League.

In this season, they got some advantages, no point deduction, no participation in Champions League or Europa League. I see it as big advantage for Juventus than other contenders who have to share their resources for Champions League, Europa League or Conference League.

420  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Share Your Bitcoin Hack Stories: Help Us Educate and Protect! on: September 09, 2023, 08:57:08 AM
Airdrops are still profitable but have switched to a newer form that people often call testnet or retroactive...but spam airdrops are just trash. Airdrop is just a form of earning free altcoins and I think it has nothing to do with investing in altcoins because not all altcoins launch airdrops for users.
Airdrops are profitable if you don't have to do anything like holding a coin to get a token airdrop or to buy a coin then use it for on chain transaction fee because you need to make on chain transactions as one of conditions to be eligible for airdrops.

If you have to spend something, it contains risk, even you are talking about airdrops.

Quote
Focusing only on bitcoin is not a bad idea because you will avoid the risks that the altcoin market brings. But you will also miss out on the opportunity to gain big profits from investing in altcoins.
People have years in cryptocurrency market actually experienced risk of altcoins. They know risk and they say advice to newbies who usually ignore their advice because in eyes of newbies, altcoins are more potential, more profitable. They don't see risk, only see opportunities in altcoins.
